Im Joo-hwan, Lee Sung-kyung join legal thriller Broker
by girlfriday
Kim Young-kwang, Lee Sung-kyung, Im Joo-hwan
The main cast has been confirmed for Broker, the new film from director Kim Hong-sun of the heist movie Con Artists/Technicians and the thriller Traffickers. Kim Young-kwang (D-Day) was being courted for the lead role and has now signed on, and he’ll have costars in Im Joo-hwan (Oh My Ghostess, Shine or Go Crazy) and Lee Sung-kyung (Queen’s Flower, It’s Okay It’s Love).
The crime thriller is about the murder of a young woman — the daughter of the Minister of Justice — and the ensuing legal battle as the prosecutor’s office is pressured to convict her killer. It looks like our good guys will be on the defense, since Kim Young-kwang will headline as the star lawyer at a big law firm. I’m liking Kim Young-kwang in D-Day as the fervent, idealistic doctor who saves everybody, so I think that could translate to lawyerhood decently.
Lee Sung-kyung has been cast to play an impassioned and spirited public defender, and Im Joo-hwan will be a broadcast news PD who chases after the truth in the murder case. I’m just glad he’s not playing a creepy killer in this one, mostly because he’s so good that when he’s scary he’s really scary.
Im Joo-hwan will be reuniting with the director, after playing the villain’s right-hand man in his last movie Con Artists. Lee Sung-kyung is still so new that I’m surprised she’s jumping into a leading role on the big screen, but both of her dramas were well-received and she’s certainly on the rise. It seems like a very young cast for a thriller, but maybe we can hope that means there will more running around than courtroom speechifying.
Broker plans to start shooting later this year for a release in 2016.

I watched The Technicians, in which Im Joo Hwan played a thorough baddie with no backstory, and now see him in a totally new light.

It's amazing how a guy with such a sweet face can be so creepy. He's just a fantastic actor. A whole new level of respect for him.

I really hope Im Joo hwan gets a lead role soon, he really showed his acting chops in OMG, plus he's pretty experienced too. Wow at Lee Sung-kyung getting a main lead film role already so soon. Though she does seem pretty popular in Korea, it's going to be interesting to see how she does in this film.

IJH did a great job w/ his role in OMG - a lesser actor would not have been able to handle the subtleties of that role.
But always seem to be stuck w/ supporting roles (not even the 2nd lead most of the time), many of which don't let him show his talent.
Hopefully, his performance in OMG and this gets him more noticed by PDs and he joins his buddies in becoming a leading man.
Lee Sung-kyung - Kwangsoo's "girlfriend" (never seen her act, but is photogenic and seems to have a fun personality based on her variety show appearances).

Im Joo Wan should've been lead, don't know what's so great about KYK that he keeps getting offered roles there's something that I just don't find likeable about him for some reason.. Is that just me ?

If you can't find a reason, you should avoid reading into his previous interviews then. That alone is enough reason and it's not just in one interview but multiple ones.
His looks are pretty average but his personality just makes him 'ugly' but I don't even know why he thinks so highly of himself. He reminds me of a saying:
"Why don't you eat some of that make up so you can be pretty on the inside. B***H"
He fits the bill just fine. ;)

Nope! You are not alone. I too can't stand a guy who thinks physical appearance is most important. To think, this guy thinks he is very handsome leaves me bitter. I wouldn't excuse Really Handsome guys like Jong-suk or Woo-bin saying things like these. As tall as he is, his manners are that much shorter.

Well, while he's not particularly good-looking, neither are Jong-suk or Woo-bin.

Well, whether wraith of fandom or not, it's the truth (from an objective viewpoint on looks).
K-actors like Kwon Sang-woo, Hyun Bin and Jung Woo-sung are actually good-looking, but even they are just on the "good-looking" side and not really good-looking (like Kim Sung-soo, Oh Ji-ho, Go Soo, Song Seung-heon, Ji Jin-hee, Jo Han-sun, etc.)
Back when KSS and KSW were doing publicity for their drama, "Bad Love" - the interviewer asked them who they thought was better looking and KSS as a matter of factly stated that it was he (and KSW readily shook his head - yeah, it's KSS).

But they look better than him. Am not korean, my opinion is based on all kdrama related news i read.
They seem to be better looking.
But my point is the comment he made about Looks..

Ι read about his shallow comments but I have to admit that, in terms of acting, I've found him overrated even before those. He's just a model-turned-actor and I don't get why he's given role after role (after role).
I'm not Asian therefore the "looks" issue is still incomprehensible to me...None of these three seem to have anything special, imho (wow! I've become fearless myself).

Kim Young-kwang? Lost interest already. lol
He's overrated from his acting to his looks. His personality makes it THAT much worst. Sad. Why do this guy continue giving roles? It's not like his acting trumps over his obnoxious personality. He must come from money. lol Just saying.

Why do people keep using this 'so what if he likes pretty people' excuse. Sure, he can like pretty people and there's nothing wrong with that but that's not the point, that doesn't excuse him from putting down women that he deems unattractive, or try to dictate what they can and can't do. People only talk about his bad 2013 interview, have people forgotten about the 2008 one where he outright body-shamed women? That one was worse. He's been doing this for years.
"What I think is ugly is when women with thick thighs and short legs wear skinny jeans. Or those that wear leggings and a miniskirt and sit with their legs spread open on the subway... I sincerely ask those people to stop."
You guys can still like this guy, but don't excuse him for this bullshit. Acknowledge it first and then move on from there.

Many male idols, when asked about their ideal types talk about liking pretty/attractive/cute girls but none of them flat out shame women who aren't considered that. There are plenty f ways to state that he likes women who are attractive/thing etc, there's nothing wrong with that, but he needs to stfu about women who he doesn't deem attractive.
"so what if he likes pretty women." the issue isn't that he likes pretty women but how he puts down other women and think that if he finds something unattractive than all women should go by his thinking.

I almost celebrated seeing Im Joo Hwan's name. Then I read the article lol. I want to like KYK but I can't. I've tried. Didn't like him in White Christmas. And I almost dropped Plus Nine Boys because of him. But yay for IJH. The guy needs a lead role.
