Lee Jong-hyuk, Park Hee-bon join tvN’s Bubblegum
by girlfriday
We’ve got more casting additions to tvN’s new romance drama from PD Kim Byung-soo of Nine and Queen Inhyun’s Man. The new series, called Bubblegum, stars Jung Ryeo-won (Medical Top Team) and Lee Dong-wook (Mandate of Heaven) as the leads in the “adult fairytale” about people who are all lacking in some way, who become happier when they’re together.
Offers are currently out to Lee Jong-hyuk (Queen’s Flower, Dating Agency Cyrano) and Park Hee-bon (The Producers, Fated To Love You) to join the cast as secondary love interests. Lee Jong-hyuk is currently starring in the weekend drama Queen’s Flower and would probably go straight from one drama to the next if he signs on; it seems like a small role for him, but Bubblegum is being produced by the company behind Secret Garden and A Gentleman’s Dignity, so that might be a factor in wooing him.
Jung Ryeo-won stars as a radio PD who’s clumsy and impatient, and carries some inner pain. Lee Jong-hyuk is up for the role of her chief in the radio news department, and will have a tenuous relationship with both leads. His character is described as level-headed and intelligent, and every reporter’s role model, but he’s always been passive when it comes to love.
Lee Dong-wook plays a doctor of Eastern medicine who runs his own practice. Park Hee-bon (you might remember her best as the sister in Master’s Sun) will play a totally different character than the sweet, good-natured best friend type she tends to play. She’s been cast as a chaebol heiress who’s also a successful dentist, and though she’s a cold city girl, deep down she believes in true love.
The drama’s writer, Lee Mina, is new to dramas but a writer for the radio show Music City, so I’m looking forward to her portrayal of radio broadcasting if that’s where all the action will take place. Bubblegum follows Rude Miss Young-ae Season 14 on Mondays and Tuesdays and premieres October 26.

Now I feel sad. I like Lee Jong-hyuk so darn much that he does not deserve second lead under Lee Dong-wook. (THOUGH I thoroughly enjoyed him as second lead in DR. GANG hihihiiii Lee Jong-hyuk is sooooo cute there)
I like Lee Dong-wook in Mandate of Heaven tbh; Jung Ryeo-won in King of Dramas. Yeah yeah! (King of Dramas, you say? That is just my ultimate bias.) So overall, even though I don't like JUNG RW, I will still watch the Pilot episode of this drama. Solely for Lee Jong-hyuk (and objectivity's sake). Thank you for the updates, GIRLFRIDAY!

Why Lee Jong-hyuk must be in second lead *sad*. If he takes the offer, hopefully he's not being typical second lead.

His character description in this drama a bit similar like his in drama Powerful Opponent back then. Hope he is a divorcee with a kid in this drama too. Just because, I love to see him as a daughter fool.
Park Hee Bon is everything too. It also tme she got main lead after being a supporting for a long times.

Everything is ok about this drama except that lead actress. I hate her so much. I still wish somehow miraculously she will reject this drama.

Jung Ryeo-won? Why, she's actually a good actress, unlike the lead actor.

Can't stand reading smb's daring opinion that Lee Dong Wook is bad actor. Lol. You should be movie critic or director to judge his acting! So many man so many minds and tastes.

I actually don't think he's a bad actor, he's just not that good either, especially not at the level of JRW' acting ability. I liked most of his dramas because he was in them. ;-)

Sometimes its not about good acting. I know she is a A+ at acting but I don't like find her appealing. Its how I feel. Just like how some people cant stand Lee Jong Suk etc.
I try to like her and I have watched about 2 films and 2 dramas of her, but I still couldn't.
SO yeah I hope she rejects this.

I like Lee Dong Wook as a person (thanks Roommate!), but not so much as an actor. I feel like he and Jung Ryeo Won are mismatched talent-wise... she easily steals the show of everything she's in. I'm interested to see how this dynamic works.

I'm jut really happy to see Jung Ryeo Won back in a drama!! I really like both second leads, I'm not that found of LDW but this project sound fun and it's from a new drama writer definitely going to give it a go.

many people didn't know that Park He Boon was a idol, she was on M.I.L.K along with Seo Hyun Jin from Let's Eat 2.

I liked JRW in King of Dramas. But I hope this time, no more villains. I got tired of all the villainy in that drama and I just wanted to watch them make a drama. lol.

I really enjoy Park Hee Bon's work - she caught my eye since the drama Shut Up Family (which his hilariously awesome btw) and I've been watching out for her, glad she's gaining more spotlight, she's such a good actress!

Long-time K-pop fans (especially Cassies) would probably remember Park Heebon best as Junsu's crazy psycho ex in DBSK's Banjun Dramas 10(!) years ago. She's been unforgettable to me ever since. LOL
