Kim Woo-bin and Suzy couple up in Lee Kyung-hee romance drama
by javabeans
Wow, well if this isn’t a new (drama) power couple in the making: Kim Woo-bin (Heirs) will be headlining a drama with Suzy (Gu Family Book), and it’ll come from writer Lee Kyung-hee, who has penned a number of hit dramas, among them Nice Guy, Thank You, A Love to Kill, and I’m Sorry, I Love You.
The drama must have been casting in super-secret meetings, since both stars are confirmed (which hardly ever happens these days, in the age of the wishy-washy press release). Kudos on pulling that off, that’s for sure. The new project is called Lightly, Ardently, a (working) title that’s meant to be contradictory; the first word speaks of a thoughtless or unserious kind of love, while the second suggests deeply emotional.
The drama tells the story of a couple who were painfully separated in an ill-fated relationship, who meet again later as total opposites, one as a haughty superstar and the other as a documentary PD. I have no trouble imagining Kim Woo-bin as a Hallyu singer-actor megastar, with a sharp brain and ultra-cynical personality. Suzy will be attempting an image transformation (let’s all cross our fingers on this one), going from innocent and sweet to an extremely servile, feeble, but also materialistic character who has no pride when it comes to money. That’s quite the mix of traits, but sounds like it’ll make for an interesting character. The romance will start off prickly but develop into a more ardent connection, and knowing writer Lee, the developing melo will be sure to tug, if not break, our hearts.
It’s true that Lee’s most recent drama, weekend family series Wonderful Season, wasn’t quite as successful as her others, though she’s done much better in the miniseries melodrama format (her bread and butter, really). There’s still lots of time to see how this one develops, since the casting has been confirmed pretty early in the process; Lightly, Ardently is being planned for a 2016 airdate.

Basically this drama will be Baek Seung Chan and Cindy "Producers" kind of romance...
I adore KWB.. Now I only hope Suzy will deliver her role.. at least at the same level with her Dream High character.

Well without a doubt that KWB and Suzy are somewhat green when it comes to acting (especially for melo) but they need projects to improve. You only improve when you work, and that's been the case to most actors, improve with time and experience.
So lets give them a chance. Even though they not strong actors and I don't really care for them (I don't hate them nor love them), we might get some surprise when the drama airs.

First time ever I hated comments on dramabeans. The dislike (and even hate) for Suzy is so real. I thought I was reading netizenbuzz comments.
Good luck to both Kim Woo Bin and Suzy. They are such power couples. Fighting !

Nah. Alpha, right. There's venom in these supposed critiques of her acting. It reads like a bunch of grown women who don't want to sound like hating netizens, so their focusing on tearing her acting to shreds to legitimize the bitchiness of the comments.

I think mostly they find suzy no suits in this kind of role/drama w/ the melo pd tbh.
If this HS king of savy kinda genre woud be go easy on her.
But u right also, we netizen know what, the production team is the pro one, their vision sometimes prove people wrong.
If about personal preference, i think no body can meddling who u shud like or dislike.

Weh, I came in and suddenly I'm neck-deep in salt.
My only grouse (as stated on page 1 in a reply format) is that it hits too close to My Love, Eundong, and if actors that are a lot more experienced got screwed over hard by the plot itself, it's very hard to imagine those less experienced trying to ride on something similar- hopefully this writer doesn't feel the need to dump excessive makjang to cover up plotholes or screw up their second leads for the sake of (you guessed it) makjang.

yes My Love Eundong, even the senior actors worked really hard to deliver their character, i dunno about who are less experience. i cant imagine what mess wud be, if KWB and Suzy to act the similar character like Joo Jin Mo and Kim Sarang in My Love Eundong.

I can understand people's concerns here. Funny and light roles like the one in Big suit Suzy well. So a melo with a large range if emotions to display... :/
On the other side Kim Woo Bin has never been the lead in any drama but objectively speaking he has charisma. Depite the fact that I love him, he has a presence on screen. That only can't cover the bad acting I admit but I rather go for a charismatic actor than a bad and absent one. I think he'll do a decent job. That said, when you compare this paring with the one in Nice Guy, surely the level isn't the same! I won't just expect something huge here, I just hope to see a good story.

True that Wonderful Days was a bit lackluster and slow with no big major dramatic points, but I actually quite like that it was an ebb and flow type of drama ...but I am a fan of the writer's work and Kim Woo Bin always has such a great screen presence will look out for this one!
Hope Suzy can pull off what seems like a much more challenging role!

We almost had Suzy for Cheese in the Trap and fought against that casting mistake while longing for Kim Woo-bin to play Baek In-ho but knew he wouldn't accept a second lead role. Only to find out that these two will be together in another drama and not Cheese in the Trap. I wonder if Lee Tae-hwan will be in this drama too. -_-

Even though you take Go Sung Hee over Han Ga-In, it does not change the fact that so many people agree Go Sung Hee is one of the worst actresses. She ruined 3 dramas in a row and she's always the weakest link in the entire cast. People even called her the Korean Kristen Stewart. GSH is ridiculously wooden, extremely lackluster, and way too bland as hell. She's no better than Han Ga-In and Jin Se Yeon.

Who is worse than Go Sung hee? She is just as bad as Jin Se Yeon and Han-Ga In. They all really suck at acting.
Everybody said GSH is horrendous in Night Watchman. I've seen other actresses in historical dramas, but GSH is the worst ever. Her acting is lifeless and quite painful to watch in Spy. She got a lot of criticism for bad acting in My Beautiful Bride too. Plenty of people said she's far too bland and her wooden acting is such a killjoy whenever she appears on screen.

Huh... Last week, as a treat to end my vacation on a nice note, I got myself a WooBin fest. I watched 20, The Technicians and rewatched some tasty bits from VampIdol and A Gentleman's Dignity. So I was glad to see KWB cast. For Suzy... not so much.
What I like about Woobie, even if he always plays with his looks, is that he delivers this part perfectly. He raises his eyebrow and the magic happens. I do find it enjoyable to watch him. That is what I watch dramas for. However I find Suzy unenjoyable. Am I biased and unfair? Maybe. I find some other actresses more pleasant to watch, I am not even talking about talent and skills, rather about screen presence. Truth be told, I see myself as a consumer who buys what he likes and doesn't give a damn about other things, because he doesn't have to care.
Am I going to watch this drama? Maybe... If not for the story or for characters, then maybe for some purely superficial and hedonistic reasons :D. In such a case Glory Be to Forward Button!

Did not watch Heirs because of all the bad reviews but a lot of people were talking about KWB. Did not understand the appeal at that time. However, when I finally got around to watching School 2013, I joined the KWB bandwagon and never looked back. He killed that role and was able to keep up with LJS, who I think is a great actor comparable to KSH.

Im a Suzy fan and cant help but to defend her, yes Suzy acting is a little bit green but its not bad, and we must remember that Suzy have acted only to 3 dramas, DH, Big, and Gu family book, and also 1 movie Architecture 101...
She still new in dramaland it just desnt seems like that because of her popularity, she only have 3years experience and how about we wait for her movie and then we can just her after that because its been 2 years or something since she's been gone..
dont go hating too much, just believe, Suzy turn down some offer and she must have a reason, plus Suzy will act on a new image so lets wait and see it (and i think it will suit), then we can hate or love :)

I don't think this drama is going to do well with the general public. Yes, the mania - shipping fans of Woo Bin and Suzy may watch it but other than that, I can't see an audience who will sit through 16+ hours of mediocre KWB and oppa saranghae its me Suzy at all.
There is only so long you can watch the pretty on the screen before your brain veggies out and you need emotional turmoil and actual sincere acting to show through and I don't think either of them are at the level that they can carry a whole drama by themselves yet.
KWB hasn't been tested in this type of role yet due to the previous roles he's played but he could go on to prove us wrong. Suzy however has played lead roles several times and I have yet to sit through and finish anything she's been in to the end. She should be given the chance to craft her skills by taking on smaller roles first but then that is I guess something we have no control over. Popularity and money speaks at the end of the day which sucks for us viewers :(

Don't be too surprised lol, this site is known to have Suzy antis. Yes i call them antis. Not because they don't like Suzy's acting (understandable), but because people can't compliment her without a comment about how bad or how she just ruins a drama. It's ok to criticize her but if someone else's opinions differ it's not ok. You don't like her or can't stand her acting cool move on. It's annoying for people who want to root for her to improve.
