KBS’s Master of Trade—Inn 2015 kicks off with a marathon script read

Time to check back in with KBS’s upcoming period drama Master of Trade—Inn 2015, which was formerly titled simply The Innkeeper. The drama stars Jang Hyuk (Shine or Go Crazy), Kim Min-jung (Gap-dong), Han Chae-ah (Oohlala Spouses), and Yoo Oh-sung (Joseon Gunman), and the script reads apparently took place a few weeks ago, although we only recently got the photos from the reading.
The reading reportedly took place over a whopping 13 hours, which sounds insane; I hope they weren’t all stuck in one room the whole time, though with a full cast numbering 80 actors, I can see it taking that long to get through everyone. The drama follows the main character (Jang Hyuk), the inheritor of a defunct inn in the late Joseon era, who then works his way up and becomes a great merchant, while challenging the established ways of commerce that favor corrupt deals between government and business.
The Korean word in the title literally means inn, though the multi-volume novel on which the series is based was translated as The Innkeeper. But since they’ve tweaked the title, we’re going with the more literal translation. The “2015” of the title may be a bit confusing since the drama is a historical series, but I suppose it helps to differentiate this one from KBS’s 1983 drama, which was based on the same source material.
Master of Trade—Inn 2015 is directed by sageuk veteran PD Kim Jong-sun of dramas Dae Jo Young, Taejo Wang Geon, and King Gwanggaeto. Writing are Jung Sung-hee and Lee Han-ho of King Geunchogo and Ja Myung Go—so, lots of sageuk experience here. The series is set to follow KBS’s current Wednesday-Thursday show, political drama Assembly, and will premiere in September.

With 13 hours, you can almost finish a miniseries if you marathon it and not pause to take gazillion screenshots of Oppar.

Oh man, I got excited thinking this might be a Korean adaptation of The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. Any sci-fi readers in here? I can totally see Jang Hyuk as Kvothe!

Oh, Kvothe, I can't imagine Jang Hyuk as Kvothe, but I know what you mean, the story does remind me to that series. Is the third book out yet? I am waiting for it for a long time now!! :)

People introduce themselves to each other, resume of main plot, actors reading the scripts and practicing their lines and PD usually also give the direction as the PD is the chair of script reading..
But 13 hours is whole lot time! O.o
Healer's script reading took 4 hours and I already thought it was long..

So basically, he is kinda playing Oh Yeon Soo's character in Shine or Go Crazy ? Lol. I am very excited though. I really liked that aspect of the drama because her character was such an amazing merchant and leader. When she talked about her work ethics, you just couldnt help but fangirl because she was that gooooood :D
Not feeling Kim Min Jung though. I dont know how to describe it but I dont like her acting that much. I had a hard time watching her in Third Hospital and actually dropped Gapdong after the first few episodes because of her. To be fair, I kind of liked her in Queen of the Night so it is kind of even ?
Whatever, I am a sucker for Jang Hyuk in sageuk dramas. I cant explain it but I always tend to drop his modern dramas but freakin' love his sageuk ones (Tree with Deep Roots is my ultimate favorite <3).

Basically, they present each other and read the script of the first few episodes. It is like some kind of practice where actors will work their lines with the others except that it is more official and basically with the whole cast and staff members (the most important ones !)

Ooh I am so excited for this one! Have been having Jang Hyuk withdrawal symptoms since finished marathoning SOGC a few days ago.
So will JH get to wear a hanbok this time? Despite his many saguek experiences, I don't think he wore a hanbok on screen before? In Chuno he was mainly shirtless (the best!). In TWDR he was in royal guard costume. In SOGC he was in the Goreyo era. Is this set in Joseon era?

That's disappointing. I thought Han Chae-ah was playing the first lead this time. Nothing against Kim Min-jung, but I really like HCA and think she and Jang Hyuk would be great together. At least it'll be nice to see her onscreen again, I suppose.

I don't think Han Chae-ah is 2nd lead this time...I recall reading before(i think)that she's the main lead and Kim Min-jung will actually be playing an antagonistic role...

How many episodes is this drama? The standard sageuk i.e >50 eps or standard drama i.e max 20 eps.
From that picture, I'm guessing HCA and YOS will be the second lead, which can be a bad thing to JH & KMJ tbh. They are scene-stealer. And hopefully HCA get offer to be the female lead soon can I think she can act & quite popular too.

Jang Hyuk...I love him. Such a versatile and amazing actor. He's not afraid to pour out his emotions while "crying" in front of the cameras. Can't wait!!!

From what I see in polls lately, Jang Hyuk is a sure-thing actor who brings in the ratings. I for one, will watch Jang Hyuk is any sageuk. So will be rooting for this. I loved Shine or Go Crazy!!
