The Time I’ve Loved You releases first teasers (again)
by girlfriday
Technically they’re not the first teasers, because the first one was plagiarized (groooooaaaan) from the animated short Jinxy Jenkins & Lucky Lou. Between this and It’s Okay, It’s Love last year, methinks the promo department at SBS needs a workshop in how not to steal. (Hint: It involves doing your own work.)
So here’s a second try at first teasers from SBS’s new weekend rom-com The Time I’ve Loved You (the answer is 7000 days, which has now been dropped from the official title — did it give away the punchline, you think?). The remake of the Taiwanese drama In Time With You stars Ha Ji-won and Lee Jin-wook as best friends who begin to struggle with their feelings when new love interests enter the picture.
Ha Ji-won plays a marketing team leader for a shoe company who’s opinionated and defiant. She hates losing more than anything, and though she’s a smart and talented career woman, her unyielding personality gets her into trouble at work. She has a 17-year-long bickering friendship with Lee Jin-wook, who was always just a friend to her… at least she thought, until he shows up with a new younger girlfriend (Chu Soo-hyun, Pinocchio) and feelings start to change.
Lee Jin-wook’s character works for an airline and has a sweet disposition with his coworkers, but is cynical and prickly in his private life. He’s pessimistic to Ha Ji-won’s constant optimism, and has a tendency to always twist his words and never say what he really means. Gah. I’m already infuriated because I can see Lee Jin-wook playing this so gleefully. But he’s remained by the heroine’s side for 17 years without fail, all in the name of friendship.
And likewise, it’s the appearance of a new love interest that changes everything between them. Yoon Kyun-sang (Pinocchio) co-stars as a pianist who shared a fleeting romance with Ha Ji-won in the past, and he returns five years later to pursue her again, making her wonder if he’s her once-in-a-lifetime love.
The setup has me way more excited than the teasers do, since we don’t learn much of anything from the short glimpses that we get. Ha Ji-won waits outside someone’s door shouting for just five minutes of their time, and Lee Jin-wook plays a round of angsty basketball. I dunno what they think they’re teasing with that, because I’m pretty sure I already knew that Ha Ji-won and Lee Jin-wook were IN the drama. C’mon Show, I know you’ve got it in you to give me one good teaser. Time’s running out!
The Time I’ve Loved You premieres June 27.

I really hope Ha Ji Won won't pull that ridiculous "baby voice" she sometimes does. The lead female character is supposed to be strong, mature and very competent in her job. That's the #1 thing I don't want to see them changing in this remake.

yeah but In Time with you was not like that at all. Ariel Lin's character was a lot of thing but she wasn't dumb. she was infuriating, she was sympathetic and despite all her flaws she seemed real. It was the reason I started watching TW dramas more often.

I agree. In Time With You portrayed the characters realistically, and for once we had no wrist grabbing, annoying, whiny female lead. She was strong, independent, and stood up for herself. In fact, all the characters were really well developed. I hope the writers don't change this part of the drama, but the original was a little too angsty for me. Fingers crossed that the remake will be just as good and hopefully better.

THIS. that is what I'm most scared of with this drama and why I'm hesitant to watch even though the original is one of my favorites. I like Ha Ji Won just fine but I can't deal with the baby voice she does.

Haha, my sentiments exactly! I love Ha Ji Won and I think she kicks ass but when she does that baby voice she tends to do when she "acts cute", I end up cringing. Let's hope she doesn't fall back on that a lot in this drama. :<

Either you are joking or have trouble understanding what copyright and licensing are.
A licensed remake and a plagiarised teaser are not the same at all. Anyone who works in this business, whether in the promo department or as writers, has to be aware of this. You risk lawsuits, fines and loss of credibility.

ahem .... if we really want to talk about plagerism ... then the korean intertainment industry owes a crap load of money to the following people and their estates ..
Jane Austen
Charlotte Bronte
Hans Christian Anderson
and
William "I'm an effing God" Shakespear

No they do not. Because being inspired and having a similar premise to something is not the same as outright copying frame-by-frame of something and passing it off as original. Almost everything today - be it books, movies or dramas - are a variation of something released in the past. So no, that is not plagiarism.

not sure about Hans Christian Anderson but the other three's works are all in the public domain, so there isnt anyone who gets copyright money when a new shakespeare or austen adaptation gets made

Ha Ji-won is so lovely. She's like 37? She certainly doesn't look like it. She's pass as a 25 year old. Gah, makes me wish it was a reunion between her and Jo In-sung. I'll still watch this anyway.

Okay what is with HJW's cringeworthy cutesy voice? *cringe*
SBS needs to get their act together regarding the constant plagiarism their team does. But no wonder. If this is the kind of original they can come up with, then there's a huge reason they don't trust their 'talent'.

Is it just me? Ha Jiwon is fine but it is unbearable when she acts all cutesy. Despite Lee Seung-Gi and Lee Sung-Min, I had to stop watching King2Hearts because it was simply too painful to see her act cute ... i love the original, but don't think the remake with a cute Ha Jiwon is worth the deal

HJW in K2H was playing a North Korean so she had to play the part with accent and I think that is how viewers thinks that she'playing cutesy.

the reason why she spoke the way she spoke and behave the way she behaved in TK2H had been explained 1001 times and yet it has been brought up again and again whenever her name props up. There was no problem in the way she spoke in her next drama EK and neither was there any issue in her earlier dramas. Its just too bad if the background of the character she has to play out in TK2H was not taken into account for some viewers. The irony is that she has to pay a tidy sum to a native North Korean for lessons to speak that way!
Anyway, TK2H is one of the best drama Ive ever watched and Im looking forward to this one even if its way off the original.

I have not seen the original but this sounds exactly like what the doctor ordered - a dose of good old kdrama magic. I am a fan of Ha Ji Won and can totally see her in a strong, mature woman role (Secret Garden, K2H). But as bjharm pointed out, let's hope they don't 'dumb' her down.

I don't really have high expectations for the remake. Possibly because the Taiwanese version already reached such great heights for me it put itself in a place that can't be compared. Sure I might enjoy the korean remake if their intention is to make it more of a rom-com than the more serious and melodramatic version of the original, but even if Ha-ji won as the main actress I don't think she could pull off as well as Ariel Lin did. Her character was strong, annoyingly authorative, realistic and she just won't take any shit from anybody, that might actually be the sole reason why she's extremely desirable and favoured by the audience. I sincerely doubt if Ji won could portray a character this complex. Looking at the teaser knowing Kdrama remake is giving her a rather bubbly personality isn't really doing it for me. I hope the characters won't be ruined and fingers crossed it will meet my expectations!

I'm looking forward to this, but will try oh so very hard not to compare it with the Taiwanese original. The story being about friends-turned-lovers is the kind that I dig, and also what made me watch the TW version. So, as long as this basic plot stays true, I'm on board!
Like so many others, I sometimes find HJW annoying... She occasionally wears this parted-lips expression that ends up making her look idiotic...but someone's voice isn't something easily changed. And I'm sure I sometimes look idiotic too. :) Anyway, she acts otherwise better than many others, so I'm still psyched to see her in this!
