The rescue team is dispatched in disaster drama D-Day
by girlfriday
Cameras are rolling on the set of JTBC’s fall series D-Day, the large-scale disaster drama about a massive earthquake that hits Seoul and the rescue workers who are first on the scene. The first stills from the production have been released, though shooting actually began in May due to the high volume of CG shots required for the show. It makes me feel better to hear that they’re shooting ahead of schedule to try and account for the special effects, because it seems like the kind of show that rests entirely upon the gripping, urgent life-and-death stakes.
The drama plans to highlight the humanism and tension inherent in saving lives, and will center around a group of DMAT (disaster medical assistance team) workers. Kim Young-kwang (Plus Nine Boys) stars as a highly skilled general surgeon who prefers the emergency room to his current position at a cancer hospital, and Ha Suk-jin (Legendary Witches) co-stars as his surgeon sunbae.
Jung So-min (Big Man) is an orthopedic surgeon with a sweet disposition; Kim Jung-hwa (Dating Agency Cyrano) plays a psychologist who will treat victims for psychological trauma; Lee Kyung-young (Misaeng) is the ambitious hospital director; and Kim Hye-eun (Unkind Women) plays the head of the emergency ward.
It’ll obviously be hard to get a feel for the show until all its effects are in place, but I do think that for a medical drama (snore), the disaster element is a huge upgrade, and will hopefully up the tension by leaps and bounds. The drama’s producer stated, “Because the drama’s scale is big and it requires a lot of hands, we began production in May. We will make sure the drama doesn’t run counter to expectations concerning its scale.” Oooookay. You promised.
D-Day follows Last on Fridays and Saturdays beginning in September.

+1, @Malia.
I find it annoying when people say that they "hate" actors or their acting (too emotional word for any kdrama; I try to avoid it as much as I can) but I find this KYK terribly overrated. I think it's the trend nowadays for any tall young actor to be considered a priori talented. Since I myself don't care about height that much I need to say that talent has absolutely nothing to do with well-built proportions.
For the record, JSM is in a different league, acting-wise. Bizarre OTP :-/ I hope JTBC can still "do this voodoo that they do so well" lately...

Lol, let's play a game. How many members of the Model-Turned-Actor crew will Jung So Min be paired romantically with? She's got 4 so far! 1 more to go!
I'm not sure how I feel about dramas centered around saving lives but maybe I will give this one a shot. I like the stills; they seem natural and not overly-dramatic. I wonder if anyone will sub this though because it's promo has been pretty low-key. Still sad there seems to be no one subbing My Beautiful Bride which was also low-key in promotions. ):

Lee Soo-hyuk is my favourite member of the model-turned-actor crew and if he was ever paired with Jung So-min I'd be the happiest fangirl.

Yes it is - and so far looking like this might be one of the few k-dramas that really hooks me this time.

Lets hope it will be subbed by someone. Agreed...Jung So Min was underrated. She's talented but haven't got decent spotlight. Why she never get the chance to act with proper actor? I'm not saying this drama's actors aren't good. I mean....someone with bigger name maybe...
Anyway, lets hope this drama do well. Fighting!!

Earthquake in Seoul, seriously? That premise alone is enough to make me wonder about the writing, though will probably watch at least the first few episodes.

I know...strange right?
I love Ha Suk Jin...I wish he was paired with Jung So Min who I adore.
Her role in Big Man was amazing and she had loads of chemistry with Kang Ji Hwang!
It's funny that she does not have much exposure when her agency is one of those media crazy type ones: YG... I think.

@sogazelle SM exists only to promote its idols/might-as-well-be-idol actors like Go Ara and Lee Yeon Hee. They hardly promote their actual young actors in SM C&C at all.
