The Producers: Episode 10
by javabeans
Practically everyone takes steps forward today, and while some hearts get bruised in the process, pain in the name of progress at least speaks of growth. The show is still playing Answer Me with its lovelines, but I’ve reached the point where I’ve grown attached to their individual trajectories more than their coupled ones, so as long as they’re happy, I’m onboard. And could it be that (gasp) happiness could even suggest not winning your crush’s heart? That said, this is a K-drama so I’m not making any bets just yet…

EPISODE 10: “Understanding Previews”
Seung-chan interviews that there’s a saying that when people wish very earnestly for something, it can come true. He’d generally thought the opposite—that you can’t make somebody like you no matter how much you want it. But hearing Cindy sing, he had a change of heart: “If you wish for something, you must make an effort and express yourself. Then, that heart might reach them.”
With that, he runs off to prepare his confession, armed with talking teddy bear and lighted flower. He arrives on the scene just in time to see Joon-mo asking Ye-jin not to move out, and sags with disappointment.
Ye-jin sees Seung-chan standing there, and he awkwardly hides the bear behind his back as she asks if he has a reason for wanting to see her. Seung-chan holds the flower out to her, lying that he got it for free, and she’s touched that he thought of her. Joon-mo clocks Seung-chan’s motives more accurately, though he doesn’t say anything.
Seung-chan heads home feeling gloomy, and his long face worries his family that the sunbae Mom yelled at is making Seung-chan’s life difficult. Ha, I’m loving Mom’s anxiety, given how annoying her building patrol was earlier; this makes it all worth it.
Seung-chan plays the message he’d recorded into the stuffed bear, which says that Ye-jin is always asserting that she’s a tough woman, but he thinks her shell is a self-defense mechanism when she’s really soft-hearted and warm. He thinks her recent loneliness is because she’s longing for someone to understand her and be with her: “Someone who’ll like you freely, who likes to see you smile, who wants to be next to you. In your eyes, I may be young, lacking, and clumsy, but if you’re okay with me like this, if you’re okay with my feelings, I’d like to be at your side. Someone told me that my true feelings are easily spotted. But it seems that my feelings that are seen so easily by others aren’t seen by you.”
By the time Ye-jin and Joon-mo arrive home, the moment has dissipated and Joon-mo tries to treat his comments earlier casually. All he meant, he says, is that she should let her new apartment out for rent and stay here, since, you know, it wasn’t so bad living together. Urgh, you are so frustratingly avoidant. With a roundabout reply like that, of course Ye-jin thinks he just wants her around as his maid and cook.
Joon-mo’s so frustrated that she would think that of him that he sarcastically agrees, saying that yes, he just wants her to stay so he doesn’t have to hire a housekeeper. Garrrrrgh, why are you always saying the worst possible thing? With feelings soured on both ends, they head into their rooms feeling hurt.
Things are still strained the next day, and Ye-jin pointedly bypasses Joon-mo and calls Seung-chan out to lunch. Joon-mo holds him back, asking for a report that he clearly expects to still be incomplete. To the contrary, Seung-chan has done a super bang-up job, and Joon-mo has to admit grudgingly it’s a good job.
Seung-chan escapes to lunch, where he remains studiously quiet while Ye-jin asks for his thoughts on Joon-mo’s comments last night. To the documentary camera, Seung-chan interprets Joon-mo’s intentions accurately and wonders how Ye-jin could miss it, but adds, “At times like this, I think the fact that men and women talk about things differently… is fortunate.” Hee.
Ye-jin guesses that Seung-chan’s silence is because he doesn’t want to tell her that Joon-mo only likes her for her housework, and he doesn’t correct her.
Cindy’s manager oppa hesitantly broaches the subject of relenting to CEO Byun. According to a more senior manager, Cindy’s situation right now feels exactly like Yuna’s back in the day—and now, nobody knows where Yuna is or what she’s doing. The only rumors are negative ones.
Cindy doesn’t reply, but gets an update from her anti-fan chat room, and once again finds herself scoffing at their comments while participating in it. She even gets invited to an anti-fan meetup.
The mood is dire with the 1N2D team, with the pilot program Star Wars doing well and rumored to be their replacement. They decide to do a fresh pass on the editing, captioning, and music for their show, and Seung-chan’s name gets suggested to handle the preview. Joon-mo’s skeptical, and Seung-chan promises to do a good job while the team tosses out a whole string of instructions: It has to be fresh, exciting, emotional, hilarious, and memorable. All in thirty seconds.
The Exposition FD, on the other hand, warns that trying to shoehorn in everything will lead to ruin. He advises not going too crazy, since the sunbaes will fix the teaser anyway—they’re just keeping him busy with this assignment, seeing the maknae as just an errand boy. That stirs Seung-chan’s competitive spirit, and he vows to make a fresh, exciting, emotional, hilarious, memorable preview.
In the street, Hong-soon ducks into a doorway to avoid being spotted by the office manager, only to have her show up and corner him. He gulps as she mentions “that night’s events” and how he can’t tell people about it, noting that he has a habit of shooting off his mouth. Then she asks to see him tonight so they can “settle” what happened that night, and he’s both scared and excited at the thought.
When he gets back to the office, the pile of accidental photocopies is discovered by other staffers, who wonder at all the random body parts in the copies. The maknae Music Bank writer picks up a photocopy of a forearm and eyes Hong-soon questioningly, and he nervously shuffles off clutching his forearms to himself.
The 1N2D PDs huddle outside the editing room, marveling at Seung-chan’s dedication to his preview assignment, having camped out there all night. Joon-mo overrides his protests that it’s not polished yet (“Who do you think you are, Bong Joon-ho?”) and asks to see it, and what he sees has him shaking his head.
He says that Seung-chan might think his sunbaes will fix everything for him, but he intends to let Seung-chan’s work air exactly as he created it, and thus if the program fails, it’ll be his fault. (Joon-mo: “You know I don’t have any sense of responsibility, right?” Seung-chan: “Yes! I mean, n-no…”)
But Joon-mo also adds some valuable advice about a PD needing to love his subjects in order for things to come alive onscreen. He says he can’t see Cindy anywhere in the video, despite her being physically on the screen, because there’s no distinguishing her from the rest. He prods Seung-chan to find Cindy’s appeal, asking how anyone else is supposed to see them if he can’t.
HA, Cindy actually goes to her anti-fan meetup at a cafe, wearing a mask and a cap to disguise herself. The other members tell her she has nothing to be embarrassed about as an anti, and introduce themselves, led by singers Roy Kim and Jung Joon-young (lol) in cameo appearances.
Cindy asks why each of them became anti-fans, then says “sorry” and whips off the mask to face her aghast antis. She apologizes for refusing to take a photo with one and takes one now, while telling Roy that his precious Suzy stole a bunch of her CFs, not the other way around. Joon-young (a supposed law student) mumbles the defense that he used the cafe to relieve stress of studying.
Roy pleads for an autograph, aegyo-pouting when she snaps at him to get Suzy’s. Just then the last member of the group arrives… and it’s Manager Oppa, who trips over himself running away the second he sees Cindy there.
Cindy tells the group that they gathered today to discuss how to ruin Cindy, and asks what that is. Then she can avoid those things.
Seung-chan takes a fresh eye to his preview, finding the little moments that make Cindy appealing, whether it’s a moment of sadness alone in her tent or laughing in a game. He finds himself chuckling along as he watches, and Ye-jin happens by to see him. Suddenly a knowing glint comes into her eye, and she interviews that she’s particularly good at catching on when a person likes someone, taking credit for four marriages (“Two ended in divorce, but that’s another thing”). She laughs that it’s understandable for Seung-chan to like Cindy, but that it can’t lead anywhere.
She calls him up to the rooftop to toast his first preview and ease into the topic of his liking somebody. He’s startled that she knows, admitting that it’s been some time since it started. She sighs that he’s fallen into another one-sided crush, to which he declares that he won’t sit back this time and keep his feelings to himself. When she tries to warn him of the dangers of falling for someone he met at the station and could open himself up to a scandal, he boldly says that he’ll take care of that, too.
But his brow furrows when Ye-jin promises to help him, adding, “Does Cindy know you feel this way about her?” He tries to set her straight, but she assures him she won’t tell a soul and offers herself up for advice. It seems like he might try again, but he stops when she advises him not to make a clumsy confession too soon, and that it’s too early. People who are in a one-sided love can rush things, she says, but love requires a preview too—to hint to the other person of what’s coming, giving them a chance to prepare themselves how to respond. She points to her own rushed confession as example of failure, and Seung-chan asks what kind of preview she’d want to have.
Office Nazi waits at the appointed dinner spot for her date with Hong-soon, only to have him stand her up. She ends up eating and drinking alone (to a stream of Roy Kim and Jung Joon-young songs), while over at a different restaurant, Hong-soon confides in Joon-mo and swears him to secrecy. Joon-mo asks how it happened when he’d hated her so much, and Hong-soon explains that when she was out sick, he felt strangely empty not seeing her around, and he got his feelings all mixed up.
Joon-mo comes home and hears Ye-jin yelping from being bitten by a mosquito. He covers her with the blanket and insists on getting it for her—he kills one, but it’s bloodless and he’s sure the one that sucked her blood is still out there.
While she’s sitting under the cover, she tells him she’s decided to move. He wonders how she can mistake his meaning when they’ve spent so much time stuck together, and she sighs that that’s the problem—she started mixing him up, one day a friend and another day a man. And this is problem they can’t end while they remain stuck together, because they can get confused: “Is this because of disliking not being seen by someone so familiar and comfortable? Or is this liking someone as a man and as a woman? I want to know.”
Seung-chan works on his preview while mulling over Ye-jin’s answer to his question: Other people do things to make the heart pound, “But I prefer a preview full of honesty.”
As he reviews footage of Cindy, he starts seeing little things he hadn’t noticed before, like how she was always aware of him, watching out of the corner of her eye. And his eyes start to open as Ye-jin’s words narrate, “Amid a whole lot of flashing neon signs, discovering one quietly burning candle—that kind of feeling.”
In the morning, Ye-jin finds a smear of blood on the wall and smiles to see that Joon-mo got her mosquito after all.
Seung-chan spends another night working in the editing room, and by the next morning he’s bleary-eyed and preview-obsessed. Seeing the director walk by with CP Kim and Hong-soon in tow, Seung-chan imagines them in a melodramatic trailer, asking the eternal question of what to eat for lunch.
Ye-jin takes her team out for coffee, and has another frustrating encounter with her maknae writer’s racy wardrobe. First the writer wears a leather jacket in the heat because of the clothing complaint, so Ye-jin tells her it’s okay to take off the jacket… until the revealing clothing underneath has people gaping and she suggests maybe she put the jacket back on. Sigh, the bratty writer annoys the hell out of me but I’m really starting to rankle at how they’re dealing with her character. We know she has boobs, okay? Can you just give her a dress code or shut up about it?
Cindy reads over the 1N2D preview script and finds the dialogue strange and off-putting. Manager Oppa agrees, saying that it was written by that umbrella PD who seems to be good at nothing, and offers to demand a rewrite. But in that light, Cindy decides it’s not so bad and smiles to herself, agreeing to go with it.
They arrive at KBS to shoot the preview, and Seung-chan ushers them in. Oppa starts complaining about the script until Cindy calls him off, and then sends him off with an errand to fetch her a really hard-to-find tea. Seung-chan explains the purpose of the script, which has the idol cast members saying things that the team has said internally about their show’s future, and he feels the lines are best delivered by “our show’s most loved people.” She says that’s a nice comment, and he adds, “Because it’s true.”
In the recording studio, Cindy and two idol boys (Seungyoon and Jaemin) read Seung-chan’s dialogue, to the background of dramatic, edge-of-your-seat music:
“The rumors are chaotic! They say the pilot program is really strong. Rumors of our cancellation are back. We’re in danger of cancellation after only five weeks on air. The internet reaction is horrible—there isn’t any! Not even curses! We’ve been off the search lists for ages. But it’s still too soon to lose, we still have our 6.8% viewership. But what about the 93.2% who’re ignoring us? Will we just disappear lifelessly, or will we show one last show of fighting spirit? This real wild road variety show that hasn’t even begun yet, Season 5!… please watch us just once.”
Seung-chan gives them an enthusiastic thumbs-up, pleased with their performance. Seungyoon asks Cindy afterward if he can upload a selca he took with Cindy, and she balks that it makes her look bad. The boys asks for Seung-chan’s opinion, and he says that Cindy looks pretty because she’s a pretty person… buuuut looks a little less pretty than usual. He launches into an overanalytical explanation of what angle flatters Cindy best, prompting the reply, “Are you [photographer] Kim Joong-man?”
Then Cindy asks for another example of when she looks pretty, and the boys wonder, “Is it okay for us to be here?” He explains looking at her face all night long as he put together the preview, figuring out how to make her appeal shine through. The boys ask for their examples, only to have him answer that he didn’t look at them.
The boys’ managers pick them up, and as they wait for Manager Oppa, Seung-chan apologizes for what he said last time, now that he knows he’d misunderstood her in various ways. She smiles and says okay.
They run into Ye-jin in the lobby, who is still under the hilarious backwards misconception that Seung-chan likes Cindy, who doesn’t give him the time of day. She asks about her comments from the last Music Bank appearance referencing the guy with the umbrella, and when Cindy deflects, Ye-jin looks pityingly at Seung-chan, thinking there’s some other guy. Meanwhile, Oppa ONLY NOW realizes that Umbrella PD and Umbrella Man are the same guy, his eyes popping wide open in shock.
Then when Ye-jin hears about the cast members recording their own preview narration, she nods knowingly at Seung-chan and this “special concept” that she thinks he whipped up just to be with Cindy. And he tries to insist it really was just a concept, but Ye-jin’s already got that idea in her mind and says his feelings are written all over him.
He does manage to convince her that the woman he likes is someone else, though he hasn’t made his preview yet so he can’t tell her who it is. She wonders, “Why does not giving her a preview keep you from telling me?” But she completely misses the connection, and later Seung-chan interviews that for all her good traits, her lack of perception might be a flaw. As well as her insistence that she has very good perception. (Meanwhile, Ye-jin interviews that she still thinks it’s Cindy, sighing that it’s tiring to see Seung-chan go through this so obviously.)
As he drives, Manager Oppa brings up Cindy’s thank-you speech, saying a little tearfully that he thought she’d been thanking him all this time—that it made him feel appreciated and touched. But she meant that the man who was a metaphorical umbrella in the rain was the real umbrella PD, and he’s disappointed in her. But all it takes is one mention of his anti-fan cafe ID and he’s back to obedient roadie oppa.
Hong-soon tense up when Office Manager steps into the elevator with him, offering up a weak apology for being busy that day. She tells him that even rejection should come with the minimum courtesy of a text message, then leans waaaaay into him and breathes a sultry “Adios amigo” before leaving him feeling wistful in her wake.
Joon-mo, Ye-jin, and little bro sit down for their last breakfast living together in this house. Little bro is reluctant to move and makes one last bid to convince her otherwise, suggesting they rent out the new place and stay living here. Joon-mo chimes in that it’s what he suggested, but Ye-jin shuts them both down again.
Cindy shows up for an event, and stiffens to see that her dressing room also has her rookie hoobae’s name on it. The rookie, Jini, is already inside being made up and Cindy instructs Oppa to bring her a chair in front of the mirror. That spot is occupied, so she gives Jini’s chair a satisfying kick and sends her rolling away, and tells CEO Byun that her spot was taken, and now the rookie will have to have her makeup done twice since she’s going to cry the first one off.
In front of the cameras, though, Cindy is a sweet helpful unni as she directs Jini in poses. CEO Byun sees through it, of course, and decides she saw Cindy too lightly. God, if that was treating her lightly, I shudder to think what she’s planning now.
At the fansigning, Cindy’s fans rush past a pouty Jini to get Cindy’s autograph, and she says she attributes her rash of TV appearances to her CEO’s scheduling, half-joking that she might have to do ads for a skeezy loan shark. Her fans loudly protest, and she says she has to do whatever her CEO tells her to do because of her contract stipulations, and asks them not to hate her too much if she does those ads.
That’s when an ajusshi fan introduces himself as a lawyer and offers his free services if she should want to contest an unfair contract. The fans go wild and Cindy plays it off lightly while promising to contact him if such a need should arise.
As Ye-jin and Joon-mo take out the recycling that night, Seung-chan’s mother happens by and lights up to hear that Joon-mo is Seung-chan’s direct superior who lives across the way. Relieved that he wasn’t sleeping those nights out at a woman’s house, she greets him enthusiastically and invites them over for dinner with the family.
Seung-chan fidgets uneasily as his parents angle for praise and describe him using such words as “so smart” and “too perfect.” Awkwardness abounds, what with Mom worrying about starlets throwing themselves at Seung-chan to little sis enthusing about Star Wars.
Then they have to sit through family TV time, and Seung-chan’s promo airs. The response is one big wah-waaaaaah as his family wonders what the point of the preview is, and Dad puts Joon-mo on the spot to ask how well Seung-chan did.
The three PDs get in a few honest words (and laughs) about Seung-chan’s nosy family afterward in his room, but just as Seung-chan is saying that his father isn’t usually so forward, Dad bursts in and ropes Joon-mo into a game of chess. Ye-jin says that if she told Cindy about his family, it could really impede their relationship, and Seung-chan says exasperatedly that it’s not like that at all.
After the event, Cindy sits down with CEO Byun in the car (overriding an increasingly peevish Jini) to ask what happened to corrode their mutually beneficial relationship. She says she received documents demanding compensation for damages incurred when she disappeared for a few days. She consulted with her law student anti-fan, who pointed out that she was injured and in the hospital at the time, and it was CEO Byun who insisted she work.
CEO Byun concedes that Cindy’s done her research, and Cindy tells her not to blackmail her, because she’s not utterly without support: “We have ten months left. Please don’t ruin Cindy in that time. Mom. I’ll work hard at what you tell me to do, but I’m not so naive that I’ll do things do to ruin Cindy.”
CEO Byun says she can tell from her tension that Cindy’s got no confidence in what she’s saying. But Cindy just tells Jini to listen up, because she’ll be in this situation soon enough. And when Cindy exits the car, it’s CEO Byun who takes a deep, unsettled breath, while Jini looks spooked.
Ye-jin looks around Seung-chan’s room and recognizes the stuffed bear he had the other night, and accidentally presses its hand, setting off the recording. Only now does she put the pieces together.
Riding home, Cindy looks at herself in the mirror until recalling Seung-chan’s words about her being prettier when she isn’t doing that. She sets the glass down, while online, Roy and Joon-young join her fan cafe.
Upon returning to his room, Seung-chan immediately knows that Ye-jin heard the bear. She heads home in a daze, trying to process the information. And Office Manager, for all her bravado earlier today, finds herself teary-eyed in the privacy of her bedroom, while Hong-soon looks at the photocopier with a fond smile.
Today’s lesson: “Understanding Previews: In any case, a preview is for the benefit of the main event.”
Ye-jin calls Seung-chan out to the playground in front of their building, sitting on the swings as she starts to explain about hearing his confession recording. He says he already guessed, and she chatters a bit about how it was so surprising and how she never guessed.
Seung-chan asks whether that was his unintentional preview, and when she asks what he means, he says, “For the first time in my life, using all my strength to muster the courage to confess—that kind of preview.”
With that, he grabs her swing chain and pulls her in for a kiss.
EPILOGUE
While under the bedcover, Ye-jin says her bit about spending too much time with Joon-mo that her feelings got confused. A while later, after he’s caught the mosquito and she’s asleep, Joon-mo tells her, “I know that too, that we’ve been together too long. And that saying this is like gambling our 25-year-long friendship. But what can I do? I feel more and more uneasy. If I leave things alone, it feels like something will erupt.”
COMMENTS
I don’t even know what to make of that epilogue. You’re… going to confess without confessing? Where does that leave you, Joon-mo? He’s made progress in the past two episodes in that he’s at least trying to talk to Ye-jin—I have no hate for someone who’s bad at conveying their feelings if they’re making an effort—but he’s so frustratingly passive, and it drives me nuts. N-U-T-S. He reminds me of Garbage Oppa of Answer Me 1994 in that I love the actor, love the portrayal, and understand the character’s dilemma on a logical level. It’s not that Joon-mo’s fears are unfounded, or that it’s unreasonable for him to want to cling to a valuable friendship rather than lose it.
It’s just that he’s going about this in a mopey, passive way and he doesn’t see that if he can’t be honest, he’s going to risk losing Ye-jin anyway, regardless of whether he wants to take their relationship to a romantic level. He essentially acknowledges that in the epilogue by feeling that something big is about to burst, which I’m hoping is at least a sign that he’ll do something very soon. It really had better, inasmuch as we have two episodes left and if he doesn’t get moving, this will turn into a story of The Romance That Never Was. Frankly, for his sake I hope it’s sooner, because I never find it satisfying when romantic feelings are confirmed at the very last minute—we need time to enjoy the aftermath a bit and come to terms with it, and you deny the audience that satisfaction if you draw it out too long.
That aside, I was really proud of our younger two this episode, Seung-chan for realizing that he wants Ye-jin’s love enough to try, and Cindy for taking her future into her hands. Seung-chan wasn’t wrong for thinking initially that you can’t win love through effort, but he’s also not wrong for looking at it from a different approach and putting more thought into how he handled his confession. Or, to look at it in a different way, it’s the difference between seeing his feelings solely from his perspective (choosing to pine in solitude and hope you’re noticed) and seeing them from the other person’s—by preparing them, easing the expectation, giving them a chance to see what you’re asking (even if subconsciously) instead of thrusting it upon them out of the blue.
I’ll admit to having hoped for a Cindy romance with Seung-chan, mostly because in dramas I tend to root for the heroines to have their long-term crushes realized. I think that’s sort of an unspoken rule of most dramas—when the feelings and romantic outcome are unclear, it’s often the heroine who wins her love, rather than the hero. Which is why I also rooted early on for Ye-jin to resolve happily with Joon-mo—not that I think he earned his happiness, but for her sake.
But now, I find her story of finding her true self and paving her own way in her career to be more compelling, and more powerful. I find it difficult to like everything she does—I can’t write off every rudeness as a self-defense mechanism, for instance—but by and large, I find her incredibly sympathetic, and applaud every little victory she scores. It’s all the more gratifying because we know exactly what kind of consequences await her if she fails, and that threat still isn’t enough to cow her into submission. She’s got to be terrified, but she uses the past knowledge to arm herself rather than trap her by the ankle (the way, for instance, Yuna’s case has made Joon-mo responsibility-shy and actually changed his approach to work).
Of course, that strength didn’t come out of nowhere, and I liked that she cited having support as one of the reasons CEO Byun shouldn’t see her too lightly. My favorite parts of the drama have always been when the four main characters are together, learning from each other in small ways—and to be fair to Joon-mo, whom I like despite being aggravated by, I liked his advice to Seung-chan in the editing room about really seeing your subject. In many ways Joon-mo gives Cindy more credit than Seung-chan, and I’m glad that Cindy got a heartfelt apology from Seung-chan for misjudging her sincerity. It’s a bit of a cliche, but true for a reason, that sincerity comes through and can move hearts—even turning antifans into vocal supporters (and handy-dandy legal counsel).

The writer only did Cindy/IU justice. While The Producers may not be a commercial flop or a complete critical flop; I will not look back fondly on this drama as I have all of GHJ's other works.

RJM and TYJ will most likely be end game.
I don't even hope for BSC and Cindy becoming a pair anymore. Their romance would've made one heck of a squirm-worthy drama, but I'm content with them building a good friendship after all that they've learned from one another.
Cindy started out being such a typical obnoxious character in dramaland that's been remade over and over again but I'm glad to say IU's portrayal of Cindy was SUPERB and REFRESHING. She was subtle, quiet, and she lived in her own bubble of isolation while yearning inside for someone to notice her and help her, "No matter how hard I try, my feelings don't get noticed". Despite her minimal screen time in the first half of the drama, her character development has been in full force these past few weeks. Let me say I am more than thrilled that her sole arch, BSC, is no longer her only arc (finally, something more to her than a love line!). Now she's at war with her agency and I love that she isn't taking CEO Byun's defeating words to heart. She's smart (one of the main reasons I love her), and she knows if she doesn't take action, she'll end up nonexistent like Yuna. She's solidifying herself as Cindy, a straight in-your-face to Byun who believes Cindy is who she created. And omg, she knows how to be resourceful! From someone who endured everything alone, to now relying on friends, fans, and even anti's. I love that she remains haughty despite so many changes. She's still who she is, but she's the upgraded version of herself. Even her rudeness to the 2nd Cindy isn't out of ill intent. Cindy is still looking out for the girl. Not to mention a lot of it was for show in front of CEO Byun.

I don't want any of them to end up as anything other than friends at this point.
Early on I wanted Cindy and BSC together, but I lost interest in that awhile back. I had stayed on the YJ and JM bandwagon for awhile--JM knows he likes her romantically; it was his drunken kiss that started everything--but, I'm off that one, too. There's not much worse that a weak, scary-ass man.
I've never gotten the folks who wanted BSC and Ye-jin together. I know some of you have your noona/ajumma-younger man fantasies, but BSC isn't a man. He's a kid brother. He lives at home with his extremely annoying parents. He doesn't have his own car. And he's her subordinate. Is that allowed in the workplace in Korea (dating subordinates?)
In one of these last 2 episodes let Cindy find Yuna somewhere living happily and realize that whether she stays or leaves the industry she can be happy, too, and we can call it a good series.

That would be a lovely ending for Cindy. Let's hope that Writer Park is thinking of the same too. I'd love to see a time skip on Cindy wherein her real name is revealed, she's still good friends with the three other characters and she's happy and successful in whatever it is that she's doing, while still being an Ice Princess with her adorable OCD. It wouldn't hurt if they give her a celebrity love interest, too.

just because he lives at his parents' place, doesn't own a car yet, and is her subordinate, it doesn't mean he's not a "man", whatever that is. in different countries, it's perfectly acceptable, normal, even, to live with your parents even after college without the stigma that seems to be attached to it in the u.s.

I can't even with that comment. I didn't realize those are the criteria to define a 'man'. Well, Joon-mo might have his own place and doesn't live with his parents but his behavior and personality makes him the lesser 'man' when both are compared.

He doesn't have anything of his own. Ye-jin is grown. She has bills debts and a younger brother she's helping to take care of.
And yes, that he lacks all the things that a grown-man would have does mean that he isn't a man yet. The subordinate things has nothing to do with him being a man. Which is why I asked if that was allowed in Korea. Him living at home with his parents is very much so an issue because having a home is such a big deal to Ye-jin. That's the running joke with the brother has about her finding a man to put a roof over her head.
I get that you and Mandy are BSC fangirls, but dude is a kid. Joon-mo acts like a kid when it comes to Ye-jin; however, he's still further along in the race than BSC.
The only difference between BSC and Ye-jin's actual kid brother is her brother is more independent that BSC.

he has a job, and a steady income, both of which are symbols of independence. the fact that he lives with his parents doesn't negate that. if people weren't allowed to date their subordinates, there would be no workplace romances at all~_~; although, there are some companies in japan and probably other countries too that have a ban against workplace romances, period, because of the drama, gossip, possible quitting that might ensue.
living at your own place instead of at your parents=independence is really a western idea. like i already wrote above, it's perfectly acceptable and even normal to live at your parents place at adulthood. "independence" and "being a man" is defined differently in different cultures. i'm not denying that seung chan's annoying parents would significantly detract from perks of dating/marrying him in the eyes of his partner though.

I am a fangirl of Kim Soo Hyun. regardless those properties, I agree that BSC is a kid brother rather than a man in front of YJ, when he gets appreciation from YJ, he behaves like a kid got his endorsement from his parents. However, he is manly when with Cindy. It is BSC's character written by the writer which Kim Soo Hyun acts very good indeed.
Meanwhile, I cannot find any feeling development from YJ to SC, even in episode 10, thus, I feel not comfortable if YJ accept SC after the kiss.

yep!
We easterners do not look down on children who continue to live with their parents after they have graduated/ working or even after they got married.
In this part of the world, we still believe in the family system. In fact, we find it odd if unmarried children who work in the town where their parents are living, choose to live separately (unless the parents' house is too small or already full with other siblings.

This drama and it's confusing love lines has given me far too much stress. I'm still hoping that JM and YJ will end up together or at least that JM will confess at some point. I want to see him take up some action.
I wish SC would appreciate Cindy more since she actually notices him and his feelings and admires him. Even if they don't end up together romantically, they could be great friends.
Cindy is such a great character. I love her growth as a person and I hope in the end she wins against the CEO and is happy with herself and the people around her.
For all my fellow umbrella couple shippers and JM+YJ shippers, whether our boats sink or sail, I've enjoyed this ride with all of you.
Let's cruise into the last week with hope that our characters will be happy with their choices~~

Cha Tae-hyun is one of my fav actors of all time but it frustrates the hell out of me to see how the writers are dealing with his character, Joon-mo.
I understand that they write the script based on the viewers' response and obviously majority of the shippers out there are rooting for SC-YJ.
I keep feeling like they had originally intended for the JM-YJ loveline to take full form but changed their minds half way thru due to the viewers and they're sacrificing JM's character in the process.
I know that Kim Soo hyun is a mega big star and they will never slight him but I just wished they paid more attention to the other characters (in this case, Joon-mo because I feel like his getting the shorter end of the 'character development' stick). Joon-mo can be so frustrating and unloveable at times.. And I know it's not because of the actor...

After reading the review here several weeks, I feel the majority of the shippers is 50:50 or even larger for SC & Cindy, however, it is not the case in Korea, so can't help.
Yes I do love JM & YJ scene, the chemistry is very good. Hoping that it will have more on them in the last 2 episodes. JM finds Yuna having a happy life and then gain back his confident.

I came across pilsukie's twitter and she was saying that to her, it seems like Ye-jin likes being around Seung-chan because it makes her forget her troubles with Joon-mo, but just because she forgets it momentarily doesn't mean it isn't there. I totally agree with this, plus the fact that, really, who doesn't like someone who always helps you out and compliments you, especially for Ye-jin who likes compliments. I think I also said previously that Joon-mo and Ye-jin's trouble is like a knot that needs to be untie, they need work it out themselves, not sweep under the rug or having Seung-chan as a band-aid over a serious wound. I can never be satisfied if they make Ye-jin and Seung-chan to be an item just because the netizens like so and Joon-mo ends up being a coward through and through. I agree with JB that "if he can’t be honest, he’s going to risk losing Ye-jin anyway, regardless of whether he wants to take their relationship to a romantic level".
As for Cindy, wow, a total badass here. She doesn't complain, she accepts rejection graciously (I still can't believe Seung-chan was inspired by her speech to attempt his confession to Ye-jin, instead of seeing her sincerity at that point; like really, you're inspired by the girl who likes you to confess to the girl you like? and still questioning her sincerity all the while? I don't know, it doesn't sit well in my head). From a person who has an identity crisis, she doesn't self-pity and simply takes things into her own hands with confidence. From a person who doesn't even seem to have anything except for an image that was created from outside, she's now even able to turn antis to fans and get the crucial support she needs. I could go on and on about Cindy. She's totally my role model now, could very well be my most memorable and favorite top star. Honest, smart, confident, not a whiner, never make a fuss unnecessarily. And I'm so happy IU plays this role. She rocks it!

? He did apologize to her later though. actually twice at the same time, one for doubting her sincerity, two for unintentionally causing misunderstanding between them aka his words/actions that may have confused her. I think he started realizing her sincerity during her speech and song. That's where he made his decision to confess to YJ, because he believes she will too recognize his feeling to be sincere. even if he knows she may or not respond to it, just like him towards Cindy feeling.

Hm I think I replied to you on page 3 but it's okay, I can explain my point here. Seung-chan didn't acknowledge Cindy's sincerity even after her speech. He didn't stop to think about her even for one second, all he thought of was like "oh, so you can do this to touch the other person, maybe I should as well for Ye-jin". When Joon-mo asked him what he thought was Cindy's charm and appeal, he said "she sings well". And only after Joon-mo scolded him and there was clear evidence of her watching him, only then he realized how wrong he was about her. If not thanks to Joon-mo and the footage, he wouldn't bother to think about her and have come to this conclusion at all.
Just imagine giving your kiss to the one you like and putting your heart to a thank you note, only for him to disregard your sincerity all the way and he even took it as encouragement to confess to another person. In his confession, he even used the words you said to him to convey his feelings to the other person as well. If not because he was forced into discovering your real feelings, he would just go on believing everything you do is an act. Imagine how it could have felt.
I would rather talk about things I like (e.g. Cindy and her awesomeness) instead of this. I don't think my feeling about Seung-chan's behavior could be changed. No matter how I liked him before and wish he could be with Cindy, now he annoyed me big time. I don't care about him anymore.

*shrugs* personally people are expecting too much from SC tbh, nobody in this drama is without flaw.
About Cindy, hmm I don't think she knows about anything of that to even feel bitter/sad? To me their relationship is that they inspire each other in a way. Cindy learnt she could be sincere to people around her and stand up for herself. SC got the courage to express his feeling, regardless of the outcome. Personally I think Cindy is stronger than that to feel betrayed or anything if ever she learns that SC confessed to YJ. Because after all, SC did apology to her, he respected her feeling, that's what's important. You can blame him for being insensitive and dense towards Cindy, but not him not reciprocating to her feeling. I can see you care for Cindy but I believe she'll still be happy in the end, with or without SC's attention/love, because that's how it should be, or how i wish for her character anyway.

She doesn't know about it doesn't make his behavior any less inappropriate. I don't blame him for not reciprocating to her feeling (now I would actually prefer that he doesn't), it was his behavior that I couldn't stand. I have no doubt that Cindy will be fine without him; I'm so glad that the writer didn't make her to be a clingy person, otherwise it would drive me nuts.

Honestly I agree with the Beanies who are saying they're underusing CTHs talent because if you look at the first two episodes he lives through the screen a lot more.
And more and more they seem to push him aside for BSC fanservice with Yejin. I mean yeah it was cute but if youve set it up to be YJ and JM endgame please fulfill that promise and develop your characters.
Gong Hyo Jin is a great actress and I'm not sure how much I'd like Yejin without her but she also kind of there on the romance side. I did appreciate her addressing the issue under the covers about needing space because she doesn't want to confuse her feelings with friendship but gods JM should have responded with his confession right after that holy shit
In terms of screen time it feels like BSC is the main character (probably because fans are responding so positively to him).. I live the puppy as much as the next but I was hoping for some more work related stuff as well. And I did like the rough and tough Yejin hammering the newbies and the small captions. I was wondering if we'll ever seen the Jindo dog #3 alarm codename for her anger level escalate because you have a whole drama with real companies and names and people and you're telling me you're reducing this to a romcom period?
I get that romance is a part of it but considering the premise of the drama I was expecting it to be more balanced sigh Like I did not need that 45 min of these people at a sports event when I could be getting work shenanigans and more room for CTH to breathe life through Joonmo.
On a separate note I really love Cindys development and her growing with her feelings. It's not just because of Seungchan but she is maturing in learning how to really observe her feelings and address them. Can't wait for her to stand up to Byun CEO with the other three.
And I hope the A4 paper couple gets some more development. I thought Jong soon was the one giving chase but when did we see Go YangMI showing interest? (Alright she gave him the egg and the receipt but..) But they're off and on relationship cracks me up but seriously Hong soon that's no way to treat a lady or anyone.
PDs, WRITERS IF YOU'RE EVER LOOKING FOR A SIGN TO GIVE JOONMO MORE SCREEN TIME (AND SOME GUTS) HERE IT IS
AND SUDDEN KISSING - when Seungchan know that Yejin still has feelings for Joonmo (who really needs to step up his game) but goes on with it is a trope I really could care to see less of

I don't want to ship anyone at this point..I feel like it would be beneficial for Joonmo and Yejin to figure out for themselves really what they feel for one another and for Joonmo to then make some actual decisions. As for Cindy, I wanted her to be with Seungchan, but at this point I feel like it would be better to just focus on herself and her future. As for Seungchan...sorry buddy..I'm just a little bitter that your puppy love is so damn strong. You're cute, but you will get over her eventually if she doesn't accept you and I hope she doesn't since she doesn't even know how she feels about Joonmo anymore and that had been going on for such a long time..I'd rather her settle that first than try accepting a guy she doesn't even seem to like romantically. The drawn out love-line in this drama is just so boring. I am definitely more concerned about what will happen to Cindy than who will end up with who. Actually, the only love-line I would like to see is Cindy's because the rest of them are all clueless and just kept skirting around the issue. I just hope Cindy gets a happy ending and maybe give her a last minute possible new love-line open ending with a cameo by some really hot actor (I would suggest Lee Min Ho or Ji Chang Wook as someone not playing themselves). Who else would stack up to the likes of Kim So Hyun, eh? lol
Even all the funny scenes came from Cindy's interactions. I found it hilarious that Cindy and her manager are both members of her anti-fan club. And the look on the manager's face when it finally dawned on him that Cindy has a thing for Seung Chan was priceless.
I actually feel bad for the rookie. The poor girl is just minding her own business and doing what she's told. I guess the Cindy - Byun war has it's collateral damage.
I am sure finale week will be satisfying for some and disappointing for other. I just hope they don't mess it up too badly.

What I love about this drama:
- the cast
- that swing kiss (one of the best kiss scenes in kdrama, IMO)
- the mockumentary scenes
- Stefano and toner lady XD
- the connecting dots of PD-life and real life
What I am not loving about this drama:
- my Umbrella couple ship wreck
- that swing kiss because it sank my already-sunk Seungchan+Cindy ship
- the weekly reduction of the connection between PD-life and real life
What drives me crazy about this drama:
- the fangirl in me is totally loving the swinging lovelines, but the rational girl in me is totally pissed at the same time
- the CTH fan in me is totally loving his portrayal here, but is also pissed at the little screen time he gets
- the KSH fan in me is totally loving his adorkable character here, but is also pissed because of his naive and cutesy reactions towards Yejin
- the IU fan in me is totally loving Cindy's development, but is also sad because I would have loved if Cindy developed the way she has so far while riding the Seungchan+Cindy ship to the end
- the GHJ fan in me totally loved her portrayal and fashion but is pissed at how she was written to be a dense and denial-loving woman
And now I will crawl into my shell of anticipation and withdrawal medicinesnto get through the next days slowly dying of desire to know what the hell is going through the writers' mind that they are driving millions of people mad with the ups, downs, diagonals, swirls, and whatever -_-
(I just hope the ending won't do a HIMYM-effect on me, wherein I end up driving myself crazy with the never-ending self-debate of totally loving and totally hating the ending because I totally get the writers' reason but also totally wanted an epic lovable ending because after all it's just TV)
Anyway, totally ending my comment here because I don't even remember what I first said when I started this comment in the first place. I blame this drama for the scattered thoughts. I still love the cast no matter how it ends...I hope. No, just joking. I will still love you and follow you Taehyun oppa, Soohyun oppa, IU-sshi, and Hyojin eonni.

IMO, the drama could have been wonderful and have 4 main leads with even development for each if the drama hadn't been blown up into such a big commercial deal when they got KSH. They sacrifice a lot of things for the ratings, including screentime for some characters, in this case, clearly now only JM was relegated. Cindy started off weakly but was given time and thoughts into the development so she transformed. Yet JM is still at a standstill with a show being canceled and has his fears and problems unexplained and unsolved.

Yep, this is a very bad case of producers/writers bending over backwards to satisfy the fans and almost completely abandoning the original vision they had for the series.
I feel bad for CTH because his role was sacrified for KSH's sake. Even GHJ is not given enough material to work with. Ye-jin has basically regressed from a tough to a vapid character just to force her loveline with Seung-chan. What a waste of talented actors.

This is what I think;
Joon Mo is confused about what he really feels. Now that Ye Jin is moving out, he realizes that his house is not the same as before if she moves out, he's afraid that something might happen, might change if they separate.
He's been living with her for almost 4 years now, they've been friends for almost twenty years, he's afraid that all of those things will be (somewhat) forgotten because things will never be the same like before.
She, moving out means she wants to have new life, to know more what she really feels...and Joon Mo is afraid that maybe his bff is not really in love to him, more like became too attached to him only and somewhat realizes it when she move out and he is afraid that if that happened, she will look for another man to be with her, to be by her side.
For almost 4 years or more, when Ye jin is with him, living in his house, she only depends on him and he is afraid that it will not be the situation anymore if she realizes that she don't love Joon Mo, that she just became too attached that she mistook it as love because Joon Mo is always there for her when she needs somebody to depend on.
And now that Seung Chan is there for her and he notices that Ye Jin also starts to depend on this man, he is now more afraid that the place he confidently said "HIS PLACE" will be stolen by Seung Chan now that he sees that Ye Jin unconciously depends to Seung Chan than him.

there really weren't any though? at this point, it's clear now that she's accepted that his feelings are one-way. he still moves her in a way that other people don't, but she knows that he doesn't feel that way about her. and i think it finally sunk in for him that she truly, sincerely liked him while he was reviewing that footage and he saw her reflecting him in her mirror- hence his second apology about his words concerning her sincerity in acting (which she took to mean her confession, which he neither agreed on or denied).
i very much doubt that cindy and seungchan will happen at this point now. if it did, it would have to be a hint or an open ending of sorts, because it wouldn't be convincing otherwise. and frankly, a character that falls in love three times over the course of 12 episodes wouldn't be very appealing. i do think that it's possible that yejin and seungchan could work out, given the fact that there were moments in which she's noticed his "manliness" and also purely from how flustered/moved she might be after his confession + kiss. but then again, she's had boyfriends before obviously, so seungchan might ultimately not be enough in comparison with joon mo. despite his inaction (which, like javabeans says, i understand on a logical level) he and yejin are probably endgame. but if somehow they wrapped up their storyline cleanly and crossed out that possibility, i think yejin and seung chan are the second most likely to end up together in the end.
but who knows, there might be no pairings after all. and i think i might be strangely ok with that too. after all, their dynamic together as a foursome is really great. despite its divergence from the mockumentary format, and my wish that it could have been slightly more king of dramas-esque, i truly have enjoyed this drama.

Totally agree with not having SC in love with Cindy so fast, just keep in a open ending with a good mood built.
I do hope that JM can help Cindy to overcome the similar situation as Yuna, so that JM can get his confident back and then get YJ back to his home (finally change the owner name to YJ of his house)

Yes agree. Those scenes between SC & Cindy built up a lot of expectation, not only to Cindy, but to many viewers as well, even though in episode 10, still have some scene on SC is developing the feeling on Cindy.

Watched ep 9 last night, turn on fb and my friend tagged a picture of seung chan kissing ye jin in ep 10. Major spoiler but who the hell cares? I went to bed smiling from ear to ear.
I don't get if you like Cindy, you'll stop watching for she's not with seung chan. How SC n YJ don't match and all. I mean I love all four of them. But what could we do if SC could not love Cindy back, his heart wants what he wants. If we should return the feeling of everyone who crushes on us, how burdensome is that?
YJ could always rejects SC if she wants too but I certainly won't stop watching if they're not together even if those two are so fun to watch.
If JM mans up and really confessed to YJ and they're together I'll be overjoyed too for friends who turn into lovers kind of stories get me right in the heart. Heart is the problem now, if it likes something you won't need a reason why, you just like it no matter what.

LOL, This drama has went off its rail started from ep.7 anyway. In ep7, it's fine since the tag was about understanding loveline, but after that, it has fully shifted from drama about TV/variety production into lovelines, heck it's not even a love story.
I guess it still too much wishing for different drama like School 2013 (haven't watch Misaeng yet), especially with less interesting theme like this. Maybe I'm just hoping too high. Since it's (supposedly) drama about PD works, worken by PDs, stared by some variety veterant, I was hoping it would become an ambitious n idealistic work. But, seems like they (the writer) have given up to the fans demand.
Now, back into the drama (the loveline drama :) ). No matter how I see it from every angle, despite of the kiss scene, RJM-TYJ is still on the upper hand. The relationship is in the more further step. Everything is there for them. They only need to remove their fears (from whatever reason those fears come from) n just be honest to themself, it's settled. So, if they (RJM) decide to step further, and it's an end game.
While with BSC, it's a long road. As far as it can go, a starting step of a new relation, posibility a romantical one, with no guarantee it can go any further. TYJ hasn't fully erase her hope, she was only starting to accept that it might be not end up like what she wanted for. The TYJ as BSC first love, IMO is too cliche, a cheap shot to justify BSC love. What about RJM 1st love? YJ 1st love? Which obviously prior to BSC one in term of time n their age? Or Cindy 1st love? Why BSC 1st has to be weighted more than the others?
As for BYC-Cindy, even from the early eps, I doubt it could sail well. RJM-Cindy, not like it could happen anyway, but it could be hilarious if they made it into "RJM-Cindy scandal" when RJM take her in his apartement (I though they would go with it back then).
But, well, anything can happen in the dramaland, even if it need you to suspend your believe.

The cameos on this episode cracked me up. Roy Kim and Joon JoonHyung playing roles that are very opposite of who they are in real life. LMAO.
And I'm cheering loudly for Cindy during that confrontation scene with her CEO. Show 'em, girl! But in contrary to what most people wishes for, I hope BSC will not end up with Cindy on this drama. It just feels like it'll too good-to-be-true and I feel that if the show will go towards that direction (though I know that we are really going there, anyway), it'll go against the somehow reality this supposedly be parallel to.

"I find it difficult to like everything she does—I can’t write off every rudeness as a self-defense mechanism, for instance"
Why would you want to? A character who only does likeable things would be incredibly boring and unbelievable. I find there's often an obsession with having 'likeable' main characters, as if that's not one of the least important factors determing the quality of a work.

I notice that a lot of people assume that the reason some people don't want to watch anymore is because of how their ship sank. Sure that might be the case for a small number of people however there is also a number who don't feel like watching anymore simply because of the story itself. How it's going nowhere and how it is becoming a disappointment (losing focus on what they originally promised). Honestly if the show is still in the beginning stages I would have dropped it by now despite my love for Soohyun. However, since I've came a long way and the show is ending anyway so I decided to just stick with it until the end.
The same can be said about how some assume that people who dislike Seungchan but loves Cindy is because he didn't choose Cindy. and again I would like to point out that sure that might be true for a small number of people however there are people who dislike Seungchan simply because he is Seungchan and they find Cindy's character more appealing and of their taste. It is possible for a person to root for Cindy but at the same time not a shipper of the Umbrella couple. I am one of them. I do not ship them at all. Actually I don't ship any couples from this drama because none of them are appealing to me.
Weird because I'm just so excited for this drama to end already. LOL. Like quickly get the show over and done with. Whether there's a couple at the end or not, it doesn't really matter to me. Hopefully this show has a good ending in store for all of us.

Just remembered this CSI episode that Lucy Hale guest starred in as a popstar, where the ending is she stops being the popstar with the stage name of Phoenix and starts pursuing a career under her real name. And since I'm also curious of Cindy's real name, maybe her star as Cindy will dim, but she'll pursue a career under her real name.
I can totally imagine the ending scenes be like...
/time lapse without hinting right away who ends up with whom (but in this imagination, it's Yejin+Joonmo)/
/KBS station/
/Seungchan still working as PD, passes by the Music Bank dressing rooms, sees a name on a door that he is not familiar with and stops/
SC: *reads name aloud*
Cindy: "Yes, PDnim?"
/Seungchan turns around, flustered, acting as cute and awkwards as ever/
SC: Ah, Cindy-sshi!
Cindy: Uhm, PDnim, I believe we've never formally met. My name is *insert her real name*.
SC: *repeats her real name*
/they smile at each other, clips of the the PD life in KBS show, SC to voiceover an awesome quote relating PD life and real life that will totally touch our feelsssssssss/
The end. Lol #JustImagination #DontHateMe #kThanksBye #RandomThoughts

I wonder what the Chinese netz wants.
After all, KDrama production companies seem to care a lot about the vast market there and having KSH who is one of the most popular SK actors in China, I wonder if what the Chinese fans want also influences the story line.

I don't think it matters. The broadcast rights were already sold in China for I don't know how many million $$$. The money is already made whether the Chinese fans like the endgame or not. They just need to maintain their local Korean ratings.

This would be a plausible open ending for BSC and Cindy. It wouldn't be too forced. I hope Writer Park is also lurking around this blog and considers this as one of her possible endings, especially now that she (and IU) have made so many viewers care so much for Cindy.

I think I've never watched a more passive show than this one. I don't know why, but I'm surprised by the amount of courage the characters, especially Joon Mo and Ye Jin, are missing... I mean, Cindy admitted to Seung Chang that she likes him, and now Seung Chan has manned up enough to kiss Ye Jin. That's my guy. Though I'm not sure he would have kissed her or admitted his feelings if she hadn't found out the truth.
Joon Mo seriously needs to grow a pair and say what he feels - he's so passive he's making it awfully hard for me to cheer for him. I'm just hoping against hope he'll make a move in the last two episodes or I'm going to be very disappointed.
Joon Mo and Ye Jin are quite similar, I'm beginning to see. I highly doubt she would've ever admitted her feelings if she hadn't gotten drunk. I just think it's sad that both of them feel more than friendly feelings, but are too scared to do anything about the situation.
The drama has become very repetitive, at least for me. Ye Jin and Joon Mo are in denial, and Seung Chan (as cute as he is) is pining after YJ... The only character who's doing something other than going with the flow is Cindy. I feel like she's matured very much and at least is TRYING to do something about her life. I don't know whether her happy ending is with SC, but if she continues down this path she's on, I think she'll be perfectly fine without him.
Of course, these are just my humble thoughts. Feel free to disagree :)

I have to admit I'm beginning to get serious How I Met Your Mother vibes from the romantic development. In that the lead male character's romantic desires and what he's wanted throughout, trumps the desires of all the other characters (including Ye-jin who too, after all, has steadfastly wanted the same person for ten episodes) for the narrative.

From reading some of the comments, seems like I'm one of the only ones (or only one?) actually shipping for BSC and YJ!
Although I do think RJM and YJ will be together in the end because they are the only ones who do have mutual feelings for each other. In some parts, it does seem like YJ feels something for BSC? I think the BSC and Cindy couple would just be too awkward.

Isnt it expected ? Being happy inside is more proper in this kind of situation ^^ since we can't guess how will ye Jin respond. Also even in episode 2 when ye Jin ruffled his hair we saw dejavu effect on BSC and recent flashback their childhood we saw she was her first Crush. Doesn't that mean it was kinda planned in the first place he will end up loving her. so it's a bit unfair for Umbrella couple shippers. If Ksh were to less talented in acting I would've believed bsc will end up with Cindy too but he discretely react with those two that I was sure I will see their cute-funny and light relationship till the end. But then bsc started to feel anxious seeing he can't go between them(joon mo and yen jin) , he was hurt seeing joon mo loves her back, he was disappointed since Yejin does not realize his feelings. So accumulated feeling burst out in the end. That wasn't momentarily but logical move so to make her see him as a man. So I am wondering how can they be in good terms after that? Just because of a drama why have this mixed feelings why :D

I think IU has done an amazing job with her character...
I really enjoy all the scenes with her in it this episode, and even rewinded them a few times... her slapdown with CEO Byun is so awesome! IU levelled up so much!
BSC and Cindy have such sincere moments with each other. I don't think she will think he is leading her on, because I think she already understands and knows his brand of sincerity - what he says is just what it is... The seniors have alot to learn from these young ones...
Maybe the ending will be all of them just being friends at Yejin's housewarming... I don't even mind if it will be super open ended, because for many of us, I believe that all we want(ed) now is all four of them to become good friends and always stick together.
Today's super emotional part was manager Oppa's sad/stern talk with Cindy... he was shooting her some betrayed glares that were no joke...until she used his anti-handle against him and shut him up... hahahahah Cindy really knows how to get her way.... Maybe she will be her own agency! Look at real life So Ji Sub ...

I want BSC & Cindy to be together because both of them bring out the best out of each other... BSC changed Cindy for the better and Cindy made him realize/learn more about himself that he didn't know before.. they are meant for each other..

I don't think it has enough time for having SC & Cindy get together, however, in episode 10, SC is developing feeling with Cindy unintentionally.
For this drama, after viewing all comments, Cindy actually wins most of our hearts, thus it is fine for her to have an open ending in her love line, but win the war between CEO Byun and herself.

Prelude to earlier prediction about Cindy:
They won't show exactly what happens after the kiss. Ep 11 to start the morning after the (hot-but-umbrella-murdering) swing kiss. YJ to avoid both JM and SC. JM notice she also avoids SC, so he asks SC...and SC also avoids answering, but JM will guess correctly based on SC's reactions. JM to portray his jealousy by giving SC many work. YJ confides with Cindy about the kiss, Cindy gets hurt agaim but gives good and honest advice to YJ. Official seal of YJ+Cindy ship. (Totally hoping for this friendship to sail) Yejin goes home and think about both boys, but she ends up missing one particular person. Picks up an object related to said person, end of Ep 11.
Then Ep 12 starts with years time jump...basically the continuation is like I shared earlier with Cindy pursuig a career under her real name.
That's all. I know that when I wake up in a few hours, I will have a totally different prediction and feelings...which will happen daily until Fri+Sat ( ̄▽ ̄) 'kay. Until tomorrow again, peeps

LOL, I burst out laughing at that. I think your prediction is spot on! I'm not sure who Ye-jin will choose, but the time jump will certainly happen and they'll most likely drag the whole thing till the last few minutes while focusing on everyone's individual careers. I'd love that. I want to see Seung-chan succeed as an amazing PD, Cindy's career to do well and everyone else in KBS too. Maybe even a few cameo like JJH, for example?
