Who Are You–School 2015: Episode 5

The mystery continues to build with significant developments in finding out who Eun-byul was. As much as Eun-bi would rather live in ignorance behind the veil of memory loss, adopting Eun-byul’s life as her own comes with responsibility. Eun-bi slowly pieces together her twin sister’s life with the few clues she left behind, but there are no easy answers. She sets out to delve deeper into Eun-byul’s identity all the while confronting her own demons as Lee Eun-bi.

EPISODE 5 RECAP

It’s Yi-an’s turn to interview, and he admits that the title “Swimming Prodigy” is great but burdensome. He wasn’t always this good. Angered by everyone who swam ahead of him, he started to come to practice earlier and stay later. He decided that he wasn’t going to watch himself lose in the water. It’s hard work, not innate talent that got Yi-an there. Then he asks, “Does it disappoint you that I’m not a prodigy?”

When asked what’s important to him, Yi-an puts a finger down for his father and then another one down for someone special. He doesn’t say, but his sheepish grin tells us that it’s Eun-byul.

Back to Yi-an with his swimming medal in hand, witnessing Eun-bi and Tae-gwang on the bridge. He looks disheartened by their friendliness. When Eun-bi returns home, she notices the medal hung on the fence post and looks around for Yi-an.

Once inside, she belatedly sees the text from Yi-an, and he confirms that the medal is for her. In text, he explains that he’d promised her this medal. But he lays on his bed, brooding and conflicted after witnessing the scene earlier.

Eun-bi opens up a drawer to place the medal in, and she discovers a box with a random library card, letters, and photos with Yi-an. She smiles at the photo of cute little Yi-an and Eun-byul, and places the medal in the box.

The next morning, Teacher Kim introduces a new student to the class. She’s a new face to all but Eun-bi, and they lock gazes in mutual shock. It’s So-young, Eun-bi’s former bully from Tongyeong, and they continue to stare at each other while the class welcomes her with an applause.

During break, So-young sits down with Eun-bi and her friends. Behind them, a group of Yi-an’s fangirls approach him with a gift, and he gratefully accepts it as they run off, squeeing. As he walks off to practice, Yi-an places the box on Eun-bi’s head, and group enjoys the snacks. So-young comments on Eun-bi and Yi-an’s friendship, noting that they must be close.

Eun-bi excuses herself to go to the bathroom and escape the discomfort, but So-young follows her there. So-young asks if she remembers her from Tongyeong, and Eun-bi fearfully deflects. So-young reminds her of their hair-pulling mishap at the hospital, and Eun-bi relaxes slightly at the extent of their interaction as Eun-byul.

Explaining that she mistakenly took Eun-bi for her friend, So-young apologizes and asks that she not misunderstand. Eun-bi asks if she treats her friends like that and looks back at her in disbelief.

As Teacher Ahn walks out after English class, she blocks the door from Song-joo and her friend, noting that they forget to bring homework but never their makeup. They nod in agreement and she throws out a bit of bad fortune as she leaves, “I hope your faces rot!” Ha.

Ki-tae and Tae-gwang stare each other down through the glass while cleaning under Teacher Kim’s watch. He explains that he could care less about them hurting each other, but this is their punishment for disturbing the peace in the classroom. But it’s not just cleaning. They must look each other in the eye and coordinate their movements through the glass.

Tae-gwang decides to have some fun with it, imitating Ki-tae’s every move and provoking him to come to the other side. Ki-tae walks off in frustration just as Tae-gwang gets a message from his father (saved as “Legal Guardian” on his phone) to come right home after school.

At the study group, Shi-jin struggles to follow along and focus. Outside, Min-joon’s mother advises Shi-jin’s mother on how to get Shi-jin into an honorable university, stating that she needs to start getting college counseling now. When the kids finish with tutoring, they greet each other, and Min-joon’s mother notes that Shi-jin must look like her father. Oof, shots fired.

Tae-gwang’s father hands Tae-gwang an envelope with the study abroad documents. Tae-gwang merely smirks and walks away with the file. He tries to distract himself with his video games and ends up plopped on his couch. He glances at the handleless Segway, which reminds him of Eun-bi. He catches himself grinning at the memory and slaps himself, perhaps a little too hard.

Eun-bi looks up the news of her suicide and finds multiple articles revealing her to have been a victim of intense bullying. The truth seems to hurt even more, now that the whole word knows of her victimization. She buries her head in shame, but two messages from Jung Soo-in steal her attention.

The first one asks Eun-byul to meet one last time at the library and promises not to bother her again. The following message gives her the call number for the book. But when Eun-bi finds the book at the school library the next day, there’s nothing inside the book.

When Eun-bi returns to class, she finds So-young getting along with her two friends. Soo-jung excitedly announces to Eun-bi that she got a callback for the school uniform modeling, and Eun-bi congratulates her. So-young asks Eun-bi to give her a tour of the campus later, and her friends note that she probably has trouble getting around herself. They explain Eun-bi’s memory loss situation from Tongyeong, which adds to the look-a-like mystery in So-young’s head.

At lunch, Tae-gwang sits next to Eun-bi, which seems to mildly irritate Yi-an sitting on her other side. Song-joo notices So-young aimlessly walking around and invites her to join them. She thanks them, admitting that she was scared she would have to eat alone.

With So-young at the table, Eun-bi chokes on her food, and when Yi-an offers her water, Tae-gwang snatches it. After taking a swig, he tells So-young that everyone eats alone. What do you expect? Someone to feed you? Shi-jin assures her to ignore what he says, but I somewhat appreciate his rude behavior.

So-young comments on how Yi-an and Eun-bi must be close, seeing that they’ve known each other since they were 8 years old. Tae-gwang commends Yi-an’s personality, since he stuck around as Eun-byul’s friend for all these years, despite her abrasiveness. So-young laughs at the contrast of the past and current Go Eun-byul. She also comments on how similar Eun-bi looks to her friend in Tongyeong, making Eun-bi uncomfortable.

So-young calls her bully friend in Tongyeong to share her encounter with this girl who looks exactly like Eun-bi. Her friend doesn’t believe her, so she says she’ll send her a picture. She quickly hangs up to catch Yi-an, empathizing with his disappointment that his longtime friend couldn’t even remember his name. He nods in agreement and notes that So-young seems to be quick in sensing out her surroundings, so she won’t have a problem adjusting to school.

Trying to stealthily snap a picture of Eun-bi, So-young hides around the corner. Tae-gwang suddenly appears on her screen, causing her to scream and drop her phone. Eun-bi and her friends gather as he jokingly tells her that it would be better to take a picture of him.

They find it strange that she was trying to secretly take a picture of them, but So-young makes an excuse that they looked so nice hanging out together. Song-joo offers to take a picture all together with So-young, but Eun-bi refuses. She looks at So-young accusingly and walks off. As she walks away, Tae-gwang notes that this is more like Eun-byul’s personality and So-young glares at her.

In the meeting room, Teacher Kim asks Tae-gwang if he agreed with his father’s decision to send him abroad. Tae-gwang shrugs that he’ll follow his father’s will and signs the school withdrawal form. He doesn’t seem to care enough about school either way.

As Yi-an and his teammate head out after practice, he’s approached by a manager of an advertising company. Yi-an already refused his offer, but the manager insists him to reconsider. Once again, Yi-an rejects the offer and says that he’s going to focus on practice. As they leave, his teammate suggests that he can use one of his non-practice days for the ad, but Yi-an laughs it off, saying that it’s not his kind of gig.

Yi-an goes out for a night run and stops by Eun-bi’s house, jumping around to see if she’s awake. He squats in front of the fence and drafts messages to Eun-bi just as she walks out. She’s surprised by his sudden appearance, and Yi-an quickly stands up, awkwardly trying to cover up his presence.

She takes one step closer to Yi-an, and he looks like he’s literally holding his breath. Then she breaks the silence by saying that she’s hungry, so they go off for food in their usual rapport.

As they eat ramen outside the convenience store, Yi-an asks Eun-bi if she put the medal in safekeeping. She nods and asks about the promise. He explains that he promised to give her the first medal he won at a national competition and only now gave it to her because she refused to take it when he visited her at their class trip to Tongyeong.

Eun-bi remembers Yi-an mentioning that he briefly went to Tongyeong but only saw the person he wanted to see before leaving. She realizes now Yi-an’s feelings for Eun-byul.

As he finishes Eun-bi’s ramen, Yi-an mentions that they used to come to this convenience store often for food. He expresses his sadness and betrayal that she can’t remember anything, and he seems even more hurt when Eun-bi refuses his help to regain her memories.

Back at home, Eun-bi opens up the memory box and takes out the medal. She looks at a picture of Eun-byul on her mirror and asks her, “Unni, did you know? It seems Han Yi-an really liked you.”

At school the next day, So-young finds the missing person ad with Eun-byul’s face and puts the pieces together. Eun-bi and Eun-byul must be twins.

In attempts to make up with Eun-bi, So-young brings her a drink and apologizes. She extends her hand, but Eun-bi doesn’t take it. She rejects the apology and walks out of the room, causing her classmates to note that abrasive Eun-byul must be back.

As she walks through the school, Eun-bi is suddenly stopped by a classmate. She asks the girl if she’s Jung Soo-in, and the classmate replies that she must have not yet regained her memories. Soo-in is dead. She died last year.

Eun-bi thinks about all her interactions with the supposed Soo-in and rushes back home. She finds the library card from the box and looks for the book in the right library. Browsing the shelves, she finds the book and finds a bookmark. It reads: “Eun-byul. It’s okay if you ignore me. You’re still my one and only friend.”

She flips through the book and finds a stack of letters at the end. Eun-bi looks frightened by this eerie finding as the papers slip out and scatter onto the floor.

After school, Shi-jin and Song-joo wonder where Eun-bi disappeared to and why she seems to dislike So-young. As Tae-gwang passes by, Song-joo throws Eun-bi’s backpack at him and asks him to carry it. When Tae-gwang is told that it belongs to Eun-bi, he happily runs off with it. Hee, looks like someone’s got a new crush.

Shi-jin struggles to perform at the level of the other students in the study group, watching everyone finish each problem in one minute while she struggles to even start. During their break, Shi-jin overhears the students’ conversation from the door as they express their annoyance that she’s not at their level. But Min-joon explains that her addition to the group is saving them money, since the tutoring fees are divided among more people. At that, they change their attitude to pity and gratitude, which seems to hurt her pride even more.

After practice, Yi-an seems pained by his shoulder, a clear sign of an injury. To make matters worse, he watches his coach drop a teammate from their next swim competition because of a small injury. Coach reminds his team that not treating a small injury can ruin their whole swimming careers, so they should report any sign of pain to him. Yi-an seems conflicted but doesn’t speak up.

On the car ride back from the study group, Shi-jin tells her mother that she wants to drop tutoring. She explains that it’s not at her level, and her mother scolds her for being weak. She should work harder to be at their level. When Shi-jin starts to show tears, Mom pulls over and suggest that they change their focus to art. Min-joon’s mother told her that if they put in the money for intensive art lessons now, Shi-jin could make it.

Shi-jin looks at her mom in disbelief and sobs. Mom seems frustrated that Shi-jin has no will to do anything even when they can afford for her to do anything. Having heard enough, Shi-jin walks out of the car and confronts her mother. “I’m crying because I don’t want to do anything. I’m not smart like Dad or pretty like you. Why was I born this way? I’m not good at anything!” Shi-jin breaks down in tears, and Mom stands by helplessly.

That night, Eun-bi reads the letters written by Eun-byul. They record the events surrounding a threatening stalker. One night, as Eun-byul walks home, she hears someone behind her, but too afraid to confront her stalker, she runs away. Another night, the lights suddenly turn off while Eun-byul is studying. She slowly walks toward the door, but when she opens it, there is no one there.

In the letters, Eun-byul writes that she cries silently and doesn’t tell Mom because she believes that she deserves to be punished.

Eun-bi reads these letters in confusion and shock. Then she opens up Eun-byul’s diary and finds that these pages match the missing ripped out section. Whoever this stalker was had access to Eun-byul’s diary. That is creepy.

After swim practice, Yi-an notices Eun-bi waiting outside, much to his delight. He adorably waits for her to notice him, but she’s too caught up in her own thoughts. He sits down next to her and immediately senses that something is wrong. Eun-bi reminds him of his offer to help her regain her memories. She wants to take that offer. “I need to know what I was like. I want to become the Go Eun-byul from before.”

Yi-an agrees to help her, but only if she agrees to grant him a wish when she regains her memories. Eun-bi hesitates, but Yi-an grabs her hand to pinky promise him the wish. No turning back now.

Meanwhile, Tae-gwang snaps a picture of himself dangling Eun-bi’s backpack over the river. As soon as he gets the picture, he hugs the backpack close, with no intention to actually throw it into the water.

Yi-an walks Eun-bi home, tossing in some good natured jokes to lift up her mood. As they part ways, Eun-bi gets a message from Tae-gwang, giving her 10 seconds to retrieve her backpack before he throws it in the water. Yi-an sees the text and goes to retrieve it on her behalf.

Yi-an pulls the backpack from under Tae-gwang’s head, causing him to wake up to a disappointing face. He looks around for Eun-bi, but she’s nowhere in sight. Yi-an assumes that his intention was to just return Eun-bi’s backpack, but Tae-gwang refutes his claim. He actually wanted to see Eun-bi.

At that comment, Yi-an clenches his fists, but he pats Tae-gwang’s shoulder in a friendly manner and tells him to see her tomorrow. I smell a love triangle.

At home, Eun-bi looks at the newspaper clipping of Love’s House that Eun-byul saved. She musters up the courage to call Love’s House but quickly loses her calm when Ra-jin picks up. She mumbles Ra-jin’s name before stopping herself, and Ra-jin recognizes her unni’s voice. Eun-bi’s eyes well up with tears, and she hangs up.

Mom sees Eun-bi crying and goes over to comfort her. She sees the newspaper clipping and pulls Eun-bi into an embrace. She tells her that she should cry if she wants to. “When we’re having difficult times, let’s share the pain and cry together.” Eun-bi nods and cries on her mother’s shoulder.

The next morning, Mom asks Eun-bi if there’s anything she needs. She reminds Eun-bi that daughters are supposed to ask their mothers for what they need. Eun-bi starts to ask about Eun-byul’s diary but doesn’t finish her question. She changes the topic to her upcoming exam, worried that her grades may drop, but Mom tells her not to worry.

Walking into school, Song-joo is surprised to see Eun-byul with her backpack, since she expected Tae-gwang to throw it away somewhere. Tae-gwang passes by and walks into Yi-an’s shoulder, beginning his petty rivalry.

Eun-bi’s mother meets with Min-joon’s mother to request that Eun-bi be excluded from all the future study groups. She doesn’t want to load stress onto Eun-bi for her mother’s ambitions. Min-joon’s mother laughs at this act of love, clarifying that this isn’t love. It’s being irresponsible. If she stops now, she’s ending it for good. Eun-bi’s mother agrees that this is exactly what she wants and swiftly leaves.

Teacher Kim presents Tae-gwang’s withdrawal from to Director Gong and mentions that the withdrawal did not seem to be Tae-gwang’s decision. Director Gong insists that Tae-gwang is only acting up to show him, so it would be better to put some distance between them.

This seems to be a familiar scenario to Teacher Kim, as he accuses Director Gong of using the same rationale as he did one year ago. Director Gong tells him to follow his wishes, but Teacher Kim says that he will take care of Tae-gwang’s future incidents on his own without reporting to Director Gong.

In the bathroom, So-young asks her classmates about Eun-byul, and they tell her about how much she changed after her memory loss. She suddenly became friendly and her handwriting even changed. The discrepancies tell So-young that her intuition may be correct.

So-young approaches Eun-bi in class and asks to talk to her. Outside, So-young asks Eun-bi to help her with her worries, and Eun-bi quickly declines. But as soon as So-young mentions a bullied girl from Tongyeong, Eun-bi stops in her tracks. This girl used to be president of the class, but one misstep resulted in her downfall.

In a flashback to Tongyeong, we see So-young taking a picture of a classmate solving a problem on the board and posting it in their class chatroom along with an insulting comment about her short height. The class collectively laughs, but Eun-bi stands up for the girl and singles out So-young for being too harsh. She’s the class president, and the class pokes fun at her assuming her righteousness.

So-young has no plans on stopping this bullying, so Eun-bi stands up to have a word with their teacher. After a chat with the teacher, So-young returns to the classroom in rage. “I’m done after a three day suspension, but our class shorty is now our school shorty.” She grabs the girls hair and throws her on the desk. Eun-bi tells her to back off and deal directly with her if she has a problem. In a menacing tone, So-young asks if Eun-bi will be okay to deal with what she asked for.

Back in the present, So-young says that friends can joke around, but because that girl died, she had to transfer. Eun-bi turns around and asks So-young what she wants to say. So-young wonders if a dead person can come back to life, acting as a different person, fooling everyone around her. Glaring at Eun-bi, So-young resolves that she’s going to find out whether or not that bullied girl is dead or alive.

Eun-bi criticizes her thoughts: “Your friend died, and that’s all you can think about? You’re pitiful.” So-young recalls when Eun-bi said those same words to her and smirks. “I knew you would say those words. You haven’t changed one bit. It’s been a while, Lee Eun-bi.”

COMMENTS

This episode just gave me chills. That last scene makes me shudder just thinking about the injustices that So-young has and can get away with. Because of that, I would love some sweet revenge, but I know that’s not how Eun-bi functions. Eun-bi fell right into the trap that So-young set up, but you can’t blame her for being herself. She’ll stand up for anyone but herself because she’s willing to take the blow for what she believes in. And now that she’s somewhat distanced herself from the old Eun-bi from Tongyeong, I think she’s able to better stand up that Eun-bi. So-young may have discovered Eun-bi’s secret, but she’s not the same girl from before. She has the support of her friends and a new budding love triangle that’s bound to give her an extra layer of defense.

At some point, part of me desperately wanted Eun-byul to come back, if not in physical form, through Eun-bi. So I was excited when Eun-bi decided to reach out to Yi-an to help her find who Eun-byul really was. Initially, I think it may have been obligation to her sister for saving her and giving her a new life, but now I think it’s genuine curiosity and responsibility. Why did someone haunt Eun-byul? Why did she believe that she deserved this punishment? Who is playing this ghost of Jung Soo-in, and how is Teacher Kim involved?

Seeing that Jung Soo-in (or someone playing the ghost of Jung Soo-in) continues to harass Eun-byul, I presume that someone still has an intense grudge against her, or Eun-byul was also a victim of vicious bullying. I got goosebumps during the flashback scenes to Eun-byul and when I realized that those letters were actually the ripped out diary entries. It’s completely unsettling to think that whoever threatened Eun-byul had access to her personal belongings. If Eun-byul’s cause of death was suicide, this context may give us more insight into her decision. She could swim and saved her twin’s life, but she died. It’s a compelling mystery that, I trust, will unfold gradually with rich complexity.

I love Yi-an and his undying loyalty to Eun-byul, but I can sense Eun-bi’s fear that his loyalty won’t hold when he finds out that she’s not Eun-byul. The truth will hurt them both, and in this case, I wonder if the truth will help at all. It’s so obvious how much he cares for Eun-byul, and I think telling Yi-an the truth may destroy him. He so desperately wants the old Eun-byul back, even though she was much less pleasant, because that’s the girl he’s known forever. You could see the hurt in his eyes when Eun-bi initially refused his offer to help regain her memories. If only he knew that Eun-bi has no memories to regain. Because they aren’t hers to remember.

Tae-gwang is growing on me, despite his volatile nature. His crush on Eun-bi is adorable, and in some ways, more genuine than the crush that Yi-an has on her (he’s got the wrong girl). I especially appreciated Tae-gwang’s rudeness towards So-young. Intended or not, he was an unexpected buffer and safeguard for Eun-bi. I expected her circle of friends to surround and protect her, especially Yi-an, who’s dedication to Eun-byul seems to be unconditional. But Tae-gwang’s insertion into Eun-bi’s support circle was a pleasant surprise.

Everyone has a story, and that’s something that this show portrays quite well. Even within the main storyline, we get a look into the individual struggles students face at school. The mystery element to this School installment is a darker nuance to the story without discounting the everyday pressures that students carry with them. I love what this show’s been doing so far, and I’m looking forward to the intrigue, realism, and adorable crushing.

Just started watching this (went through all six episodes in one go)...

So-young is a psycho. She could have left the bullying behind at her old school, but instead she's all intend on continuing with it. And if you think about it, she's been doing it for years.

I like Tae-gwang a lot. He's a nutcase, and sometimes probably not in a good way, but he's not willing to play the games that society plays – all that kissing up to people or fake friendships etc etc. Definitely shipping him with Eun-bi, because as wonderful as Yi-an seems, Yi-an's love is really for another person. (Though I hope that Yi-an will see the good sides to Eun-bi and develop a friendship with her once he finds out the truth.)

I love Eun-bi's connection w/ TG. They just understand each other w/o speaking. The end of episode 6 was just so awesome!

I hope Eun-byul's alive so she can be w/ Yi-an.

***SPOILER (ep. 6)***
I hope the text msg about So-young was sent by Eun-byul. Somebody needs to put that girl in her place!

I never believed Eun-byul died. I'm looking forward for her to come back because she needs to be with Yi-an and Eun-bi with Tae-Gwang. I really hope So-young gets a taste of her own medicine, I know that Eun-bi won't actively bully her or initiate bullying but So-young will become an outcast by her own doing. This girl badly needs karma.

same here. I would stop watching this drama if I didn't believe that Eun-byul was alive. I think it would be more cruel for Eun-bi if her sis died in her place.
I feel like i should have waited for all ep to be out before watching it. I want to know now how it will be played.

I agree. Tae-gwang is just so much more likable because Eun Bi can be honest and comfortable without both of them forcing a façade or mask for the benefit of other people. They're both really similar characters, I think the problem with Yi An, is although he's sweet and genuine and means the best. He's got the wrong girl. That's the only thing.
Eun Bi (no matter how hard she tries) isn't, and can't be, Eun Byul. It's not possible, he's in love with the memories he's filled up of Eun Byul that he's not realising the new person in front of his eyes.
That's why I think it won't work out: his heart is in the right place, but it's for the wrong girl, and for all the wrong reasons.

Personally, I think TG and Eun-bi have a better connection on-screen. I think it's just the actor's chemistry cause SJ is a better actor. Yi An seems like a lost puppy..

I agree with you. I don't know the name of the actress playing as So-young, but her acting skills are pretty good to make us audience hate her character so much.

As for the two male leads, I ship Eun-bi with Tae-gwang. Yi-an can be with me, muahahaha!

Unfortunately, some people don't change, and I only find it realistic that So Young is continuing her bullying. Without development, it would've been unlike her character to suddenly want to make friends with Eun Bi after transferring, and I think the writers did a good job in staying true to the character. Obviously, they still need a plot, so I guess keeping So Young as the villain works well. I guess some people just really suck.

This drama is amazing! Great cast, great writing. It's bad to watch it only twice in the week :( I want to know what happens!

Tae-gwang is probably my favorite character so far. I didn't think I would like him, but I guess I'm falling in love, haha! He is soooooo cool and really nice with Eunbi :)

And I saw Nam Joo Hyuk in Surplus Princess and I should say that it seems he is getting even more adorable!

Please tell me I'm not the only one who wishes Eun-Byul is still alive just so that Eun-Bi can be paired together with Tae-Kwang! It will be so heartbreaking if Tae-Kwang ends up being alone in the end, that boy is too precious not to be with Eun-Bi :')

I love love LOVE this show ! I think I haven't been looking forward to a show like this ever since Healer (<3) ended. This show just has the right amount of suspense and cuteness blending in, and omgosh the amount of pretty people in this show! :D I squeal each time Yi Han pats Eun-Bi's head. With that being said, if I were the girl I wouldn't know who to choose cause both boys are adorable, each to their own.

So Young is such a nutcase though. What grudges does she have against Eun-Bi for her to do all sorts of things towards that poor girl.

In the first episode So Young hesitated to laugh at Eun Bi when they threw flour on her. I think So Young must've been bullied at her school before she went to Tongyeong
Or maybe she was didn't like that Eun Bi being bullied but she had to pretend.
Maybe later on we might see Eun Bi and So Young defending each other?

Wow, thanks for pointing that out. So Young is definitely a character to be hated on right now, but I keep thinking there has to be a backstory behind all the bullying. Probably there were some misunderstandings between them and they might soon make up with each other? Like what School 2013 did to Nam Soon and Heung Soo. Hmm ..

I hope Soyoung doesn't get a redemption arc! She's too despicable to me! I don't care whether she was bullied before or her family treats her like crap! Whatever happened doesn't give her a right to treat people like that! She didn't even show remorse when Eunbi died she only cared that her bullying secret stays as a secret cause she doesn't want others to see her true colours! She's just horrible I can't stand her... & now she's trying to steal Eunbis new friends to isolate her! I hope her plan fails and I really hope she gets written out asap! I rather they focus on the mysterious Soo In then torture me with more of Soyoungs psychotic actions. I hope her character ends up getting expelled & then getting home schooled! Because transferring her to another school will just repeat the bullying cycle. I will never believe that she turned over a "new leaf" no matter how the writers try to spin her character.

I haven't hated a character so much since Yeon Min Jung in Jang Bo Ri.

Preach!.

The actress is superb and actually scares me more than the tipycall histrionic corrupt baddie.

Her shiftiness, the way she manipulates people, that is a severe personality disorder enabled by her friends and prosecutor father.

I know what you mean. I just can't handle that kind of one-sided bullying where the person being bullied just keeps on taking the abuse. All the bullying scenes are starting to become uncomfortable to watch. It just makes me mad at the whole thing and it's preventing me from really liking our heroine because I just get mad at her for not doing anything about it.

I doubt Eun Bi has much time to think about deciding which guy to choose, hahaha. She's already shown that she wouldn't think about Yi Ahn at the moment, because she knows he had feelings for Eun Byul. Either way, she doesn't notice the developing crush Tae Kwang has on her, so I think it might be a while before she starts returning any feelings.

Did anyone see in the message that the date it was sent on was in 2014-11-5 (November 5 2014)? Is this drama set back? Because I don't remember anything stating it was a few months behind.

Jung sooin was mentioned that she died last year (so its 2014), its also the last message she sent eunbyul that she wanted to meet one last time and will not disturb her again (guess the meeting was where the no of books was in the library).

Or am i missing something?

This is the first time I've loved a drama love triangle!! I can't choose if I like Yi An or Tae Gwang more >< But I do prefer Tae Gwang a bit more because Yi An likes Eun Byul, not Eun Bi.
Shi Jin's crying scene was so hearbreaking...I relate to her so well, from being the third wheel in a friendship to disagreeing with her mother's ambitions. I hope she finds something she wants to do by the end of the drama!!

I kept screaming at Eun Bi to walk away from So Young. Don't take the bait. Don't let your reaction betray you. So Young can't prove a thing, so keep pretending to be Eun Byul. How cute is Tae Gwang protecting her? I love him for thwarting So Young's covert photo op.

So Jung Soo In was Eun Byul's stalker, eh? This episode was trying to make us feel sorry for Shi Jin, but I still think she's shady even more so now that we got confirmation Soo In died. After all, a dead person can't send texts. Eun Bi crying on Mom's shoulder made me cry especially with Yoon Mi Rae's OST playing during the scene.

Thanks for the recap, dramallama!

I do wish Eun Bi would listen to all of us screaming at her to get away from So Young too, but her personality doesn't call for that, hahaha.

What does Shi Jin have to do with Jung Soo In, though? I still feel for Shi Jin because I can relate to her on a personal level, but even if I didn't, I wouldn't hold any grudges against her. Did I miss something?

I have to think that So Young definitely has some psychological problems stemming from her upbringing. All bully's do and I hope we learn what has made her the way she is.

I love this show though, probably my only crack drama at the moment (I'm still watching Smelly Girl but the mystery element and exciting feels rather deflated these days).

I really hope Eun Byul is alive, I want her to come back right when we think So Young has got Eun Bi again - I wany Eun Byul to swoop and kick some twinster butt. Also Yi An is just way to sweet a guy to be left alone.

I don't get second lead syndrome very often, maybe because I'm male and look at things from that perspective I don't know, but assuming Tae-gwang's the second lead I think I'm going to get it here. I just find Tae-gwang more interesting than Yi-an, it also helps that Tae-gwang likes Eun-bi whereas Yi-an likes Eun-byul.

I'm starting to loose all hope that Eun-byul is still alive somewhere, that makes me sad.

I hope that at some point in the future a writer will come forward and write a drama specifically for Kim So-hyun where she plays the two main characters one a psychopathic killer the other depending on when it was to be made either the cop chasing said killer or a potential victim running/fighting back. It would just be so awesome to see an actress as capable as Kim So-hyun facing off against herself.

My first instinct as to who's sending messages to Eun-bi/Eun-byul as Jung Soo-in was her, Soo-in's, mother but the 2 seconds we saw her she seemed too together for that, plus I don't think she'd have access to Eun-byul's diary. Maybe Soo-in had a less stable brother/sibling or boyfriend, though I doubt it was a boyfriend she seemed to be alone.

The one person who would have had access to Eun-byul's diary would be... Eun-byul's mom. That's a scary thought though, since she seems like a genuinely nice person in every way – like one that's 100% on the side of her daughter.

The only thing that's weird about her is she insisted on Eun-bi living with her with Eun-byul's identity, which is a very creepy thing if you think about it. It doesn't come across that way because Mom just seems so lovely... but how can you call someone by the name of someone you know is dead? This isn't exactly normal.

The only other thing that's off is that Eun-byul didn't let her Mom in her room and wasn't as close/warm to her as Eun-bi has been – which could be just typical teenage behaviour, or hinting at something more sinister.

I don't think it's very likely that Mom is the stalker... but just throwing out there name of the one person who definitely had access to the diary.

Anyone remembered the scene where by Eun Byul was harassed by someone in the toilet on the school trip & the shadow looked like someone with short hair!!

Could it be Shi Jin???? as someone speculated previously that Shi Jin could well be Jung Soo In's friend. AND Shi Jin would have access to the diary since they are good friends and could have prolly gone over to Eun Byul's place!!!

Then again Shi Jin seems too nice to pull off such a thing but we wouldn't know till more is revealed! ):

I am also losing hope that the Eun Byul is still alive. ))))):

Watching So Young is actually really hard. I honestly do not understand how someone could actual be as evil as her. I just want to punch her every time she smirks. She causes a girl to commit suicide and doesn't bat an eye. Isn't that murder? Shouldn't she be in some sort of detention center! Yet there she is ready to harass the girl again.... she should be rejoicing that she isn't the direct cause of another's death and vow to change her ways forevermore.

Same here. I've watched a lot of Korean dramas in my lifetime, and I can say honestly that this So Young girl gets on my nerves like no other. I sincerely hope there will be no redemption arc for her, and also I hope she doesn't get to experience peace by dying. A psychopath like her needs to suffer and spend the rest of her pitiful life in humiliation to reflect on what she's done.

Perhaps I'm emotional because this is children we're dealing with. At first, I felt a slight sympathy for So Young because I thought there MUST have been some misunderstanding between her and Eun Bi in the past for her to hate her so much. But after that flashback at the end of the episode, it was clear that she has ALWAYS been a bully, and has always relentlessly targeted her victims.

What makes her character so hateful and horrifying is that she goes out of her way (even if it's inconvenient) to seek out her victims and torment them outside of school. It's almost as if bullying Eun Bi is her HOBBY. She literally takes precious time out of her life to find ways to make Eun Bi's life hell. Plus, even after her victim committed suicide, she feels no guilt whatsoever. And the first time she sees Eun Bi at the hospital after thinking she was dead, she viciously PULLS HER HAIR. Yet she can revert back to being sweet and charming without much of a sweat. That is psychopathic behaviour right there. This girl is no longer just a bully, she has a psychological disorder.

<This girl is no longer just a bully, she has a psychological disorder.

This!

Of course, there is often more to bullying (abuse at home, or as a reaction to some problem etc) but So-young isn't just a bully, she's a psycho because she has been doing it for years and even when she is in a new environment where she could start fresh, she goes right back in with her complete manipulation and scheming behind people's back. Even if she ever sees the errors of her ways, apologies and making up are not going to do it because she has some deep-seated psychological issues. This is the kind of person that tortures animals for fun and grows up to be something a lot worse.... that's how she strikes me.

Eun Byul is not dead, untill you see a body the death is not real, i think Eun byul might be the one who ripped out the pages from the diary and gave her sister clues as to where they were as a way to clue her in on her life before.

i love yi an and eun bi together, mainly because of the type of person he is, and their time together is the only time eun bi is truly free of the pain eun bi's past brings. i hate that she cant confide in him.

I sometimes wonder if some people have ever watched a kdrama, a movie or even read a simple novel

simple storytelling dictates that Eun Bi falls for Yi An, so that as soon as she realises that and feels secure in expressing those feelings that he finds about the switch and is betrayed and heart broken...and she defeated.

im telling you as soon as she admits the truth to Tae-gwang that relationship will be doomed

I can't follow you.

Tae-gwang is about to find out that Eun-bi is Eun-bi, she already told him that she is "fake" and all that stuff. Their relationship is building up nicely.
Eun-bi shows no signs of falling for Yi-an, who right now is structurally your nice and harmless second lead with a one-sided crush.

In addition, I don't even think that the love triangle is the main and centre of the show at all.

0

Required fields are marked *

There are kdramas that break the rules. They are few and far between, but they are there.

The other thing is, here the set up is different. We aren't dealing with one person that is in a triangle. Strictly speaking, we haven't got a love triangle but two pairs – Eun-bi/Tae-gwang and Eun-byul/Yi-an. It's just that Yi-an believes at the moment that Eun-bi is Eun-byul, but his love is really for someone else. Even if that person is likely dead (which, IMO, is the most realistic scenario even if it is the saddest).

The other thing is, if we go by "rules", Eun-bi encounters Tae-gwang first (when he is dangling from the hospital window) which is often a "rule" for pairings.

Alua, you give me hope!.
I haven't thouhgt about that, she sees Tae-gwang first.

But I think Eun-bi will like Yi-an more and more.

The conflict is riveting, morally she can't steal her sisters boyfriend, that's unacceptable, but the heart wants what it wants.
I hope Eun-byul is alive, because that leaves me with no clues of how this story will end.
And the sister bonding, I want that also.

lol nope i don't think so, i'm 90% sure that yi-an's the second lead here. yi-an/eun-bi is inherently wrong because yi-an doesn't even know that he's crushing on the wrong girl right now, and i doubt there'd be a way to remedy that conflict organically. eun-bi's relationship with tae-gwang, on the other hand, is more genuine because they built up their connection from scratch.

besides, if we're going by kdrama tropes, yi-an would suit the stereotypical 'nice guy' second lead, and tae-kwang's more the damaged 'bad boy' main lead heh.

This drama is too good and full of perfect acting (for their characters) that i cant believe i'm fully commited.

I love the mistery, the flow, the triangle romance, and i hope the friendship is strong enough to make me have faith in humanity lol.

I really adore yian, and it broke my heart whenever i think if he knew eunbyul is dead (if she really is dead). I mean, she's his first ever crush and 2nd most important things in his life. And the last time they met, they fight coz of eunbyul insecurity. Eunbyul like him back, in 1st ep she secretly following yian's competition broadcast and very happy when he won. I cant imagine the shock he must have felt. And i cant see this puppy sad T.T
They are perfect match.

And gong taekwang is very endearing. He's a lonely boy who lacks of care of his life. I wonder if he's somewhat secretly have a crush on eunbyul but get ignored. Becoz he's somewhat too naturally close w eunbi. If eunbyul in the past never talk to him,i dont think he can get too chummy with eunbi (Or eunbyul as he know it) that fast.
anyway, the attention he gave on eunbi and his puppy plead XD is just too cute.
i cant imagine other characters who fit more than eunbi and taekwang. They need each other and help each other too.

That being said, I also wanna give major props to So Young's actress for playing the antagonist so convincingly. She makes my blood boil and that's saying something.

Sung-Jae is doing a really great job with this role, and his chemistry with Kim So-hyun is sizzling. GAhhhh I ship them so much.

I agree, I am almost physically repulsed by So-young whenever I see her on the show. The actress playing her is doing a phenomenal job. I especially love how she uses her voice and face to convey maximum intimidation and fear in her victims. This actress definitely did her homework!

Maybe Eun Byul was the last person that Soo In reached out too before committing suicide (assuming Soo In committed suicide).

It is possibly Eun Byul had paranoia? I mean, this series does explore the various mental issues teens in Korea deal with and mental health is one of them. Could explain why she felt like she was constantly being followed? I know there are the physical evidences like the neck bruise and such.

Or it could be that Eun Byul is the only one that knows Soo In was murdered and did not commit suicide?

SO. MANY. QUESTIONS!

That's what I suspect too. I think there's a possibility that Eun-byul felt guilty about Soo-in's death and she hurt herself. Maybe she had psychological issues and that explains why she thought she's being followed/haunted, and her injuries (neck bruise) were actually caused by herself.

And also she was just giving up in math class without even trying, geez...At least try or ask around if you're really clueless about the problems, girl!

Maybe it's the show that's not showing us enough for me to really sympathize.

I think its just you never see this kind of kids. The lost sheep. I understand coz i'm just like her. I dunno what to do w my life, what i really want, but people around keep pestering me to do things which i dont think it fit me. And u know the suffocating feeling when u want to walk your own pace but people keep push you to walk faster? Go to the right! Go to the left!

I'm sure they exist. In fact, there are plenty of adults who don't know what they want either... And that's okay, there's nothing wrong with that.

It's just her lack of drive and willingness to try which bothers me I suppose. But it's fictional, so it's okay.

For you, I hope you find what you really want in life, and like you said, people are pestering you to do things which you THINK doesn't fit you. You're never gonna know whether it does or not until you try.

I wish you all the best. Fighting!

From what I understood, her mom wanted to put her into an arts school program immediately. There is a difference between that and "try out some arts".

I completely and utterly sympathise with her. Her mother is a monster with zero compassion for her daughter, who treats her as some kind of failing investment project that needs to yield dividend NOW. She cannot accept that her daughter is a non-ingenious teenager right now.

Many kids at that age -- especially when they have 16 hours of school per day and thus no time to experiment with hobbies and stuff -- are not really sure what they want and what they like. It gets worse when there is huge pressure.

Yup, maybe we had different interpretations (or watched different versions of the subs haha) of that scene. I don't think her mum's a monster though. I just think the mum doesn't understand Shi Jin enough to see that she's not like Min Joon.

You can tell she's just blindly following the advice on Min Joon's mum, instead of getting to know what is it really that can help Shi Jin find her way in the world.

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

But that's the thing. We see her trying. Over and over again. And she gets more frustrated, because she keeps trying and trying and she doesn't seem to get it, because the people around are zooming fast and accomplishing things and people keep expecting her to be the same. There are some people who thrive on competitiveness, bust she's never been the type to do well when forced to learn under pressure. Plus she knew from the beginning that math wasn't her thing. She was forced into spending time studying it (not to do well, but to be excellent), and you ever notice how when you're forced to learn something that you're not good at you begin to hate it even more? And when she tells people, they ignore and say she's being lazy or dumb or unmotivated, why isn't she trying harder? Don't you know you can be good at it if you put in the effort? All you have to do is try even harder?

And then her mom says "lets go into art this time".

Do you know how that feels? It feels like we're entering the cycle again. That it will continue and continue, only with new subjects. The pressure, the competition, people wanting her to work harder and harder...

0

Required fields are marked *

You might be right, but I do think that the show doesn't focus on her enough to let us know the full context. All I saw was her being unhappy that her mum placed her into the tuition class and then her being really discouraged there. So no, I didn't see her trying, over and over again.

Besides, she might hate it but math is a compulsory subject, so she doesn't really have a choice there but to at least do her best, does she?

Then again (and this might be off topic), the tuition class's math does seem really advanced for their age. I learnt L'Hopital's rule in my first semester of college and I come from a country with an education system somewhat similar to SK's so I dunno... Maybe things have changed in the last few years or so.

Anyway, there are still 10 episodes to go so maybe more will be revealed, who knows? It's way too early for me to be judging her and I do feel quite bad feeling the way that I do. Like I said, it's just hard for me to relate.

0

Required fields are marked *

I think you are ignoring the context. This is South Korea, a country with a high suicide rate, including among students. This were kids go to cram school after school and come home at 10pm with no life at all. This is a girl that has had her path planned out by her over-achieving parents who want her in Seoul University (or else). She hasn't been able to breathe for years and doesn't know herself – what she likes or wants to do. She obviously totally lacks confidence and feels inferior to her parents, and fears not being able to live up to their impossibly high expectations.

They don't give much time to her story, so there's gaps we've got to fill in ourselves I suppose, but I can totally see where she's coming from and why she's so lost.

0

Required fields are marked *

Yes, I see where she's coming from and why she's so lost... But not why she isn't doing anything about it.

Your point about cram schools and having no life does shed some light on it though - she just might not have the time of her own to do anything she feels like doing.

But it goes back to my point to the show not showing us enough of her for me to sympathize... Because if Yi Ahn with all his swim practices can find so much time to spend with EB, I don't know what she's doing with her time then. Maybe her mum sends her for tuition everyday or some extra curricular activities, I don't know.

It's in fact extremely unrealistic that Yi-an has all this (or, in fact, ANY) spare time to hover around Eun-"byul". But that's romantic comedy for you. The genre probably wouldn't exist if rom-com leads had 24 hour days like actual real people.

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

Why isn't she doing anything about it? She might not be capable. She's had her life planned out, she might not know how to initiate things herself. And she might be so down (possibly depressed) that even if she knew, she can't do anything. (On a side note: once I worked at a boarding school for orphans/kids estranged from their families. The kids (teens), as lovely as they were, had grown up in such an institutionalised system that they didn't know how do things themselves. We were asked to prepare a schedule for their holiday time, like when they should get up, when clean their room and even picking movies for their movie night entertainment. Mind-boggling.)

But I do agree it's underwritten – not surprisingly, given that she's a side side character. Agree with Jon G. that Yi-an's free time is unrealistically portrayed for the sake of romance in the drama, but of course we'll see more of him as he's either he's one of the main leads.

Cheers, thank you.

To be honest, a really, really well-written drama (like, for example, Misaeng) would do a bit better at giving you that insight on its own – this drama is good but spreads itself thin in some parts. Some of actors are also not that strong to elevate the their characters in a way that can help overcome gaps in the way they have been written.

0

Another thing about Shi-jin's characters are her closest two friends: one is an overly confident supermodel to be, the other an apparently rude and outspoken girl. The latter is a bit harder to grasp since we have mostly seen Eun-bi as Eun-byul, and Eun-bi is a much gentler soul than her twin. But point being, Shi-jin's BFF's are two people who generally are strong and in whose shadow she surely stands. That won't be helping her confidence either.

0

I just want to give props to the director for great editing and storytelling. Generally, a drama ends w/ a cliff hanger then begins the next episode where it left off. But he does a wonderful job of adding new, engaging and relevant information to the scene. It just makes me anticipate the next episode even more.

I am much interested in how the show will peel the mystery surrounding Eun-byul, and at the same time on how Eun-bi can deal with the demons of her past.

I can't say much about the budding love triangle except that I don't want it to takeover the greater story that the show has to offer. I think I really like Yi-an better, though, and I am interested in how his story will be fleshed out throughout the show. Eun-bi can indeed be honest with Tae-gwang, but once everything gets revealed somewhere along the way, I'm pretty sure there will be a twist right there. And I'm curious on how it will go.

if eun byul is dead? what will happen to yi-an? when he found out that eun byul was missing he didn't even participate in a national competition, what more if eun byul cause of death was drowning?

This show's seriously putting me on edge. I admit the teasers I watched got me a bit skeptical as to how the leads (especially Sungjae) would deliver, but, gaaah, I had a change of heart right after I watched the first episode. As early as the first 6 episodes, I can already say the story is definitely well-crafted. Suspense and twists are effectively weaved in—there’s enough mystery to dispel the monotony that usually tends to veil the plot of these kinds of story (it’s amazing how the show's managed to throw hints here and there as to what might have happened to Eun-byul without revealing the entirety of it until right at the end maybe; mystery and intrigue are artfully being retained for Eun-bi's character to grasp and for us viewers as well), enough comic relief to balance out the drama, and enough romance (and a cute love triangle at that) to redeem the characters from the hurt, loss, and betrayal surrounding them.

Also, I think Tae-kwang and Eun-bi's playful banters and painful struggle to try to help out each other (after the sixth episode, I'm fairly positive they're the two characters in the story who truly connect to and understand each other) only would make their eventual reunion a bittersweet and happy ending, if it actually comes down to that. But I also can't discredit how plausible it can be for Yi-an to shift his feelings from Eun-byul to Eun-bi sooner or later.

Anyhow, props to the production team for doing a good job at sustaining the thrill and saving the best for last...at least, for each episode. :D

Right now I am leaning towards Tae Kwang than Yi An, his story is far more compelling, and Eun bi can really be comfortable when she is with him.

But given the typical k-drama style... I think Eun Bi will fall for Yi An, and when Yi An finds out she's not Eun Byul, all the angst comes. Then after a while Yi An will realize he likes her too.

And our puppy Tae kwang will remain alone.. Like Kim woo bin in heirs.

I think the drama is heading in this direction but NOOOO I rather ship Tae Kwang and Eun Bi.

Can we have So Young to bully Eun bi again, then in the midst of all the bullying, Eun Byul appears again to save her!!!

Then Eun Bi helps Eun byul to get out of her mental trauma.

Then Eun Byul can be with Yi An, Eun Bi with Tae Kwang. Peace!

I think I'll leave this drama alone as much as I love it.soo young is making me have terrible thoughts, like a bus hitting her or to experience bulling herself or just something bad and these feelings are from the recap alone.the end had me feeling frightened and nauseous, I love Melo and all but this is the first villan that has me feeling this way,I guess this is how people feel watching horror movies and the ghost /killer is right behind the victim.Time to sleep, been watching healer the whole night.

I hope Eun Byul is still alive just so I can see her face off with So Young. Eun Byul (unlike Eun Bi) would not take the same crap from her and she can probably dish out some serious bullying herself. Forgiveness and everyone becoming friends might be the high road to take in this drama but I wouldn't mind seeing So Young get bullied a bit for a change.

Really? I thought nam joohyuk doing fine though, his puppy love struck eyes makes me go 'aww' everytime. And his skinship w eunbi makes me giddy too XD like hero in manga,he's pretty much like a manga character.
Sungjae is shining as taekwang, it coz his character has more variety.

Both doing good job ^^

Yeah, Yi An is nice and all but Nam Joo Hyuk's acting is suck period.

People dont have problems call out idols when they show bad acting (even they have nice characters). So, why should models get free pass?

O.o .....because i think he's good? He has this gentle aura and lovely stare. i dont speak korean so hv no idea about his speech and all, but his tone is fine for my ears. He's quite natural actor.

Whether he's a model or idol, if i see decent acting i call decent, if its bad, then i'll say bad. As long as i dont cringe (which i still do if my idol bias act, there- i said it), i conclude he's doing a good job.

This is not going the typical "black haired" guy gets the girl, right? Granted that usually I'm one of the supporters, but in this one I just love Eun Bi with Tae Gwang. They understand each other. Yi Ahn is nice but I feel that he is searching for Eun Byul in Eun Bi.... Buuuut I feel that Eun Bi reacts more to Yi Ahn...

Anyway, Eun Byul's story is dark, so I feel it lives up to the hype.

I feel as if it's too early to confirm Eun Byul's death..... Only the ashes in the urn were shown. We don't know who's they are or if they are even ashes from a body. Eun Byul could've paid someone to orchestrate this whole thing.
Also, after leaving her sister and calling the paramedics(I'm assuming) wouldn't Eun byul have to check if Eun bi would make it alive? Rather than jumping in the water straight after... Cos that be stupid and neither Eun bi nor Eun byul are stupid from what we've been shown
As for So Young, I along with many, do not give a rat's arse about her back story - after we hear it does it give justification for her actions!? Any back story should only provide us with information on her fractured mentality and development of character, not any justification of her actions. Being a victim of intense bullying a few years back, I personally do not forgive my bullies.
Some of us are asking how come she won't fight back- we deal with bullying in our own way. Some choose to take it in themselves and that's what some people call resilience whereas some people retaliate and that's what some people call 'justice served'.
And I feel as if shi jin is hiding something

This drama has good and bad.

The school brand is not suitable for this drama. That throws your expectations way off.

So I have decided to take this drama as 'Who are you' and nothing to do with School franchise because it does not feel right.

I am not enjoying the lead actress. Not because of her talent but because of the character. Her character description has major flaws. We need to reduce the complexity of that character. Give her 1 or 2 problems to solve... Not unknown problems...

It is an okay drama.. Drama by itself is not fun but mysteries

Do I have fun watching this drama? Yes, I do.

Why? Because I want to know why she had wound in her neck. I am also interested in the blond dude. He shines brightly.

"I am not enjoying the lead actress. Not because of her talent but because of the character."

Just to avoid flame wars with the Kim So-hyun fans, you could easily rephrase that as:

"I am not enjoying the female lead character."

the blond dude will not shine without the complexities of the character of the lead actress hahaha He'll probably be thrown to another country to study without any qualms since his character really does not have any reason to stay. He does not care and get bored easily.

if the character of the lead actress has 1-2 problems then I guess this should not be a drama but a music video or a short skit. Also she will be needing only her twin sister to solve it, no need for any knight in shining armor intervention. Hahaha

Soo Young should be the bride of Kim Jong-Un. why don´t all the korean bullies and tyrants just move to North Korea.

only recently I thought "dramas are just dramas", but what I see in the world is almost worse than what we saw in Angry Mom and what we see here.

I kinda like the way they try to keep the bullying aspect running.

Yes, So-young is a pretty irredeemable character (despite being a teenager and all), but one highly functional psychopath doesn't equal bullying.

I'm really looking forward to some more flashbacks how So-young did take down Eun-bi back then, with the support of the class. And I'm looking forward how she will cut off Eun-"byul" from her fans and support in her current class.

Kim Sohyun is just great in this show~ I've been watching her since The Moon Embracing The Sun and wow, she's maturing that well to be able to act out Eunbyul and Eunbi. *heart eyes*

The new leaf Eunbi is supposedly starting is cut short and it pains me to see how upsetting this all is for her. Byul's mom wasn't around most of the episode but I couldn't be more glad Mikyung said they shouldn't hold back tears and cry together when she found her crying in front of the Love House's clipping. She even went as far as to gently remind Eunbi she can be open to her about anything because they're family now and she's her mom. It would be very interesting to follow how Eunbi would cope going forward, now that the people around her are always insisting and proving they're not abandoning her.

Soyoung's presence in the entire episode was so infuriating, though. There wasn't even a sliver of remorse after what she calls "pranking among friends" led to her longtime classmate committing suicide. She couldn't have had a healthy environment growing up (the mom was obviously spoiling her based on that scene in episode one but I'm not sure yet with the dad) or else, there really was no justified reason she turned out this way. Tormentors should be kept far, far, far away from their victims and if she ever was once the one being bullied, she isn't doing better but rather, sickly perpetuating the abuse.

Shijin needs space and time to figure out what she wants to pursue in life. I've seen countless dramas depicting the pressure these kids go through and I can emphatize. Her mom should back down shutting her in a box or another because the intensive tutoring isn't helping her daughter. Let her have fun and be an understanding guide as she makes baby steps.

Taekwang is ADORABLE in the entire episode, despite that ugly transfer abroad stuff his father is pushing at him (thank goodness the class adviser knows better for this boy). He immediately sensed there's something off about this newcomer that ticked Eunbi the wrong way and he's being naturally protective of his crush, whether he's willing to admit it or not. Also, have some chill, you're giving away how much you like how honest the two of you can be with each other when you hugged that bag like there's no tomorrow.

I've had this theory back in episode 1 that Eunbyul might be having a mental illness as a repercussion of whatever role she played in the case of the dead Jung Sooin. The flashbacks only reinforced that. Hoping she didn't outcast (intentional or not) this former friend the same way her twin experienced in Tongyeong, that would be a sad irony. Now, more than ever, I really want her to be alive - not just for the sake of reunion with her mom and her sister Eunbi nor for Yian to have his childhood sweetheart back but I genuinely want Eunbyul to make peace with what she did and feel on her own that she deserves the love people around her shower her with.

I love how Taekwang realized that he's starting to like Eunbyul, but he try to deny it by calling her rude girl and talking about her past abrasive behavior.
But at the end, he can't deny it anymore. So cute.

There is a scene where Yi An stands outside Eun Bi's house wanting to ask her out. Then Eun Bi comes out in a nice dress and her hair tied up. I wonder why Eun Bi was so dressed up? Hmmm where was she intending to go before running into Yi An outside her house?

the last two episode (5 and 6 don't worry NO SPOILERS) really made me like Tae Kwang over Yi An. Like Yi An is great and seems like such a protective cool friend, but i think Tae kwang has the type of abrasiveness and bluntness that Eun Bi needs. Also, I feel like no one else would really stand up for her bc they are too polite and have an image that doesn't really allow them to snap at ppl (etc) i think the only way for Eun Bi to have a one up on So Young is if Eun Bi tells her friends the truth before So Young does, but that isn't easy and won't be painless.

At thins point I really hope Eun Byul is alive somewhere and just has no memory or is a hospital. But i guess that theory wouldn't make sense bc if she isn't dead then whose ashes were in the urn? Drowning doesn't cause disfiguration. If Eun Byul died they would've seen her face and figured it out but then the question arises, how did the accident happen? Did Eun Byul die after pulling Eun Bi up out of the waters and onto land? Or did she pull her sister above water level, someone spotted them and called for help, but she died trying to keep eun bi alive? honestly Eun Byul's death doesn't really make sense to me. If she died, then wouldn't ppl notice two girls side by side passed out looking exactly the same?

I makes me have hope that she's still alive and is really trying to figure out who her stalker is

but the School series doesn't really like having simple antagonists. i think there has to be more of a reason behind So Young's behaviour. Something that makes us kind of feel bad for her. Like maybe her father isn't the best or she's afraid of something so she covers it up by being a bully.

Honestly, I was really surprised that the reason she picks on Eun Bi was just bc she told on them. Like it seems like such a trivial matter (even with 3 days suspension) to attack Eun Bi the way that she did. But maybe kids that age get angry over smaller things, but i have to admit, I was pretty surprised. Even the girl from before (the one who was call the 'wallet') had a better reason to hate the girls than So Young did.

I'm not sure this show is really part of the "School" series, it already has a very different flavour to it.

So-young seems to be deliberately written as an irredeemable antagonist. "I'm pissed because people were mad at me just because I killed the main character" is NOT what you design if you want your audience to understand and feel for the character.

As for her motivation to turn against Eun-bi. It's not mere revenge, I think. She did it because she could. She is very confident and, as far as we can tell, extremely competent in terms of social intelligence. She somehow did turn Eun-bi's friends into her bullies, and she announced to do that beforehand, which is quite a feat.
I can easily see how a teenager gets obsessed with her gift of social power.

And right now, of course, she cannot accept that the person she already defeated might still be around and not acknowledge her. If she verifies that Eun-byul is Eun-bi, she MUST make her a victim again.

Yeah but if the writers can come up with a good back story for So young, I am hoping that she is redeemable at the end.

Like pinocchio the evil newscaster, I never thought she would be redeemable! Until they showed that she was actually being manipulated behind an even evil person.

And in sensory couple in following, they portray the doctor to be like a murderer but it turned out he was good. Quite pity the doctor actually.

Hope the writers don't disappoint.

you know, I can't tell anymore who is second lead and who isn't. Yi ahn is a sweet guy and was probably great for eun byul witht he whole first love and all but he is in love with someone else. I dont know how he will take the situation that she isnt really eun byul. taegwang, on the other hand, having developed ther feelings recently is actually in crushing on eun bi, not eun byul. if this was eun byul's story I would say yi an was first lead but for eun bi it feels like it's tae gwang. And if the writers do something else I swear I will be so pissed...hahaha. like many of you, I have also warmed up to tae gwang.

This drama has seriously got me hooked. Haven't found such an interesting drama in so long. Kim so hyun is doing an amazing job playing twins.

I seriously hate Soyoung so much, can't stand the sight of her. As much as I like others defending Eunbi I hope that this time she can remember how she was when she was class president and stand up to her on her own.

I hope I don't get too much hate saying this but I really like Eunbi with Yiahn. It's true that he thinks she's Eunbyul right now but their moments together are so cute! I really like the chemistry and spark between the two actors, especially those little moments that they share whenever they are on screen together. The way they look at each other and a pat on the head, etc. No matter what happens, such as Eunbyul returning or Yiahn finding out that she's not Eunbyul, those moments are shared between the two of them and became their memories. Just like when Eunbyul's mom tried to part with Eunbi, she couldn't forget the memories they shared together.

Although Taekwang's a nice character, he is unstable. I feel like he's interested right now in Eunbi and the events surrounding her but I'm not sure if he's going to stay interested in her and the events. He changes his mind quickly and when he gets bored he might back out. There's also a big chance that Taekwang is involved with the Sooin incident too and when Eunbi delves deeper into the mystery he might be scared or have reasons to not continue.

On the other hand I think Yiahn will always be there to assist her and help her out. Even if he does find out that she is Eunbi and not Eunbyul, I don't think he would cut contact with her or stay angry for long. He'd know that Eunbyul would have wanted him to help her out and he would probably be interested in solving the mystery surrounding Eunbyul as well. Can't wait to see how the drama is going to play out.

She is the first ever to extend get hand to him and she is his first friend, he is warming up and slowly sharing his secrets to.

Second leads are meant to have one sided crush and unrequited love... by the standards of k drama. Oh my tae kwang...
