Lee Sang-woo, Eugene up for new KBS weekend drama
by girlfriday
Eugene (Could We Love, Hundred Year Inheritance) is considering the next KBS weekender as her comeback project after taking some time off to give birth to her first child earlier this year. The new KBS late-summer weekend show is a family drama called Please, Mom, and focuses on the contentious relationship between a mother and her daughter. And now Lee Sang-woo (Feel-Good Day, A Warm Word) has been offered the leading role opposite her.
The new drama comes from writer Yoon Kyung-ah (Medical Top Team, Brain, God of Study), who actually hasn’t done a family weekend show before. PD Lee Gun-joon of Gumiho: Tale of the Fox’s Child will be at the helm. The contemporary family drama centers around the kind of combative relationship that only a mother and daughter can have, that’s as exasperating as it is close.
Eugene has been offered the lead as Mom’s second daughter, an assistant manager at a fashion design company. She’s a smart, capable woman who appears cold and refined on the outside, but is actually quite shrewd. Her character is described as someone who never gives up once she sets her sights on something.
Perhaps she sets her sights on Lee Sang-woo, who’s up for the romantic lead — an architect who’s both a manly man and a gentleman. He’s the type of person who seems like he’d never turn down a request, and it sounds like he pretty much plays the nice guy boy-next-door type that is his bread and butter.
It’s not terribly exciting news, despite the fact that I totally love both Eugene and Lee Sang-woo. It’s just that they do a lot of weekend family dramas, so it’s not new-new. But they’ll probably be really sweet together, and there’s always a 40% higher chance that I’ll watch a long weekender if Lee Sang-woo is in it. That’s science.
Please, Mom follows Bluebird’s House in August.

YEESSSS!!! Lee Sang Woo! He has been second-lead and oppa-fied for far too long. It's high time he gets the girl. (Goddess of Marriage does not count.)

Seriously, the only drama of hers that I finished was Wonderful Life. If I remember, it was my first KDrama ever. I watched 100 Years of Legacy because she was in it and there were pretty good reviews about it on some sites. Bunch of liars, it was such a sucker. At the beginning, I was a little bit confused because there was nothing refreshing about it ! It was the usual mother in law super bad with her poor daughter in law. But I kept watching because MAYBE, something totally unexpected would come out of it. Well, I guess in some ways it did. Never expected the mother in law to be that crazy !
I had a good laugh though when it won the Best Drama Award. FOR REAL O.O

I agree. The only drama I have ever completed was "Loving You" and that was a long time ago drama. Even then, it took me awhile to finish "Loving You". Her other dramas aren't that well in execution (the storyline and pace of it). I hope this one will be very good because I love Lee Sang Woo and Eugene.

Save the last dance was pretty good considering it tackled the dreaded amnesia cliche. I watched it because it reminded me of Autumn Concierto (Vanness Wu's) and finished because of Ji Sung (he looked so young lol).
This one sounds like a typical weekend drama, nothing new...

Yoon Kyung-ah doing a family drama could be interesting, but I really dislike Lee Sang-woo. He's been doing this for ten years and still hasn't learned much about acting, nor does he seem to care.

In the issue of his improvement, you may be right. Be noted that I'm a fan. But he never had a decent role; he was never a lead in 20 episode dramas. In my mind he's one of the many who have the looks and yes, the talent (after all we've seen much worse) who seem content in their second lead or family drama limitation without enticing the usual A-list actors hysteria or fan-base imposition of certain actors in all projects.

LOL. It's funny that you said that, I used to think LSW was her husband...then I saw her actual husband in a minidrama and got gobsmacked. I was a bit disappointed I have to say...
And now LSW is probably playing her love interest! Must. Watch!

I actually literally googled right now before scrolling down the comments to see if he was Eugene's husband! I was wondering why it wasn't mentioned that a husband and wife were being paired in the article only to find out he's not her husband. LOL

Lee Sang Woo somehow owns soft spot in my heart. I first watched him in Feast of the Gods and fell for him. I like him playing good oppa next door. That is perfect role for a man with an adorable face like him. But I don't think I can handle another weekend drama... I still far from finishing WHWMF despite my love for Park Hyungsik. I hope this is the kind of feel good drama instead of angst + makjang spree.

Same here. First saw LSW in Feast of Gods and that was his best role yet. Quite surprised and pleased his second lead man role turned to the lead and got the woman. Have been watching his dramas since but nothing can compare to Feast. Not a big fan of Eugene but she's ok... will watch anything with LSW in it, however bad the story may be :)

Omg! Been waiting for Eugene to return to dramaland! I love her! Her drama picks are always questionable, but I know with a good script she will do well. My favorite of hers is probably King of Baking Kim Ta Gu! Even though her character was one you'd love to hate! Excited! Hope she signs on!

How I wish Lee sang woo would get better projects and be recognised as an IT leading man, instead of dramas that fly under the radar, surely he deserves it.
I've suffered through alot of dramas for him, ok,not suffer,I did enjoy most if not all of them, Lol.
Hopefully it will Change with one good drama before he becomes an ajjushi .

You can never suffer in a LSW drama, right? hahaha... His acting is far better than lots of younger "it boys" that fly around the mini-series and his looks...oh, what can a girl say about such a handsome man and his deep voice? I'm not allowed to mention the rest of his package (R rate, ladies!!) *drooling all over*

I'd love for Eugene to do a shorter drama one of these years... I've never been able to watch more than a few eps of anything she's been in, but I think I'd like her!
Why do some actors do weekened dramas all the time? Is it another tier you have to climb past? Like - weekend dramas, then if you're popular enough short dramas, then movies...?

I quite like Eugene. Wonderful Life was the first drama I watched and finished so I have a soft spot for her. I even tried to suffer through Hundred Years Legacy but, oh my god, that drama was so bad I couldn't bring myself to finish it. Why couldn't she have been given a shorter drama now instead? I'm not sure I'm up for another long weekender show anymore. The pacing's always a little too dragging for my taste.

Just read the latest on the casting and it seems Choi Tae Joon (ugly alert) will play her younger brother and Oh Min Suk(Kill me, heal me) will play her older brother. Jo bo ah has also joined the cast. Although its a 50 episode family drama, I feel the casting is really on point. Can't wait.
