Kim Myung-min considers Six Flying Dragons opposite Yoo Ah-in
by girlfriday
Awwww yeah. Anthony’s coming back to dramaland! Kim Myung-min (A New Leaf, King of Dramas) is weighing an offer to return to television this fall in the new SBS sageuk Six Flying Dragons, which is currently also courting Yoo Ah-in to star. If they sign on, Kim Myung-min will play Jung Do-jeon to Yoo Ah-in’s Yi Bang-won.
Six Flying Dragons comes from the writing team behind Tree With Deep Roots and Queen Seon-deok, and it’s the drama that was initially Unprecedented, the prequel to Tree, before MBC gave it the red light. It’s since been revived at SBS with some changes, but at its core it’s still the story about the “heroes who founded the nation of Joseon,” more specifically six influential politicians and leaders who shaped the future of a dynasty.
The central figures in the story are Yi Bang-won (aka King Taejong), and Jung Do-jeon, a scholar who was extremely influential in shaping the political foundation, bureaucracy, law, and educational policy of the newly founded country. Joseon’s founder (and Yi Bang-won’s father) Yi Seong-gye relied on him greatly and gave Jung immense power to govern. In the drama Jung Do-jeon will be portrayed as a man who turns the most difficult dream in the world into concrete plans.
Under Jung’s influence, Yi Bang-won was passed up to become crown prince for one of his brothers, and their strife over the future of the throne was bloody and epic. (Mostly bloody on Yi Bang-won’s part, because he started killing his brothers until he could become king.) Jung Do-jeon believed in a centralized bureaucracy governed mainly by a court of ministers, while Yi Bang-won believed in an absolute monarchy; so basically, they’re in direct conflict at the core of what they believe is best for the nation.
Their legendary battle of wills during the early formation of Joseon is the main storyline of the drama, which I guess isn’t exactly unprecedented anymore (see: KBS’s Jung Do-jeon). So… just precedented then? I don’t care what it takes, people — now if you can’t manage to get Kim Myung-min, anyone else will just pale in comparison. I was already happy with the first casting news, but I gotta say, if you bring the big guns, I’m totally there. Sign on, Kim Myung-min! It’s what Anthony would do!
Six Flying Dragons plans to air in September.

I sat through 104 episodes of Immortal Admiral Yi Soon-shin for this man and I'd do it again! It has been a looooong time since I've seen him in a sageuk drama. Please say YES!!!!

As much as I love him, 50 episodes is a lot to sit down to watch anything, especially a saguek. But I do agree, this ajusshi is HOT!

50 episodes? I never finished that much episodes. 20-episode is the most for me in kdrama. And I am not a fan of sageuk dramas. But, I love these two guys. If they're in, I will try it.

I would sit and watch 50 eps of Kim and Yoo building bricks or weaving baskets.
With all the casting failures this year, I hope this one sticks because this casting rules. And I'm equally excited for the writing because Tree remains one of my favorites, if not my favorite sageuk.

Dramaland is apparently on a mission to force me to watch a sageuk. First they tempted me with Ha Ji-won in Empress Ki, then when I resisted that they threw Cha Seung-won and Lee Yeon-hee at me with Hwajung, now this if Kim Myung-min says yes dramaland will win and I'll be forced to watch a sageuk.

I'll bet he passes on it. The writing team might be a draw, but the character was just played last year by another actor who won an award doing it.

Nah. KMM wont care about the other stuff. If the character is interesting enough for him, he'll take it.

I love KMM but I honestly can't see anyone but Jo Jaehyun as Jeong Do Jeon now... maybe it's because it's my favorite drama and I've watched it thrice... I would totally watch this anyways. Hope he signs on but I can see why he wouldn't.
Yoo Ahin seem a bit young to play King Taejong or?

If the 50 episodes are well written and tell a compelling story then I'm in. Heck, if 100 episodes are well written and etc. I'm in then too. It's not the length of the sageuk, it's the quality of each episode. It's only when a writer seems to be saying, "I've got a bunch of time to fill so I'll add stupid plot lines and unjustifiable character actions," that I quit watching a show. But I'm not going to NOT watch (at least at the beginning) just because a drama is scheduled to be over 16 episodes. I've watched some rom coms where 16 was way too many.

I love you, Kim Myung Min. But I can't do sageuks. Zero interest in that genre. So please back out.....please....and do a shorter non-sageuk series. I want you on my screen again.

KIM MYUNG-MIN, the treat and only prescribed drug for my squealing heart! But my heart is quite split for this. Part of me wants to accept this sageuk because of KMM and Seondeok writer. But part of me wants for him to do something in the 16 to 20 episode bracket. Whatever happens, I wish the best for the greatest actor of Daehanminguk! (And ahhhh, I am infatuated with Jung Bo-suk as for the moment) Fighting, Kim Myung-min! U really are the best, and this news makes my day super happy!!!
