Disaster medical drama D-Day confirms lineup, awaits scheduling

Kim Young-kwang, Jung So-min, Ha Suk-jin

JTBC has finally set its cast in place for D-Day, and the primary leads are all names we’ve heard before, though at least we also get a couple new names in the supporting cast. Kim Young-kwang (Plus Nine Boys), Jung So-min (Big Man), Ha Suk-jin (Legendary Witches), and Lee Kyung-young (Misaeng) were all mentioned previously as contenders and have now confirmed; Kim Jung-hwa (Dating Agency Cyrano) and INFINITE idol Sungyeol (High School Love On) have also joined the bunch.

I find the casting results amusing because after the initial news was published, JTBC was adamant that none of the proposed names were decided, and that the show had been given no time slot and made no final decisions. Now they’ve confirmed everyone, making that last wave of denials rather unnecessary.

In any case, the drama centers around a team of DMAT (disaster medical assistance team) workers who rescue and treat victims at in the wake of a large-scale disaster hitting Seoul. Kim Young-kwang plays a skilled and promising general surgeon who nonetheless isn’t completely satisfied with working at a top cancer hospital, because he’s more drawn to emergency care. That’ll come in handy when he’s thrust into the center of a city-wide emergency. Ha Suk-jin plays his sunbae in the general surgery department, while Jung So-min plays an orthopedic surgeon with a lovable, determined personality.

Kim Jung-hwa, Lee Kyung-young, Sungyeol

Kim Jung-hwa’s character treats victims of the disaster for psychological trauma, addressing them and her teammates with a warm heart. Lee Kyung-young takes on the role of the hospital director whose specialty is in neurosurgery. You’d figure experience and skills like his will be useful in a major disaster… except for the part of the description that says he’d do anything for personal gain or success.

And last but not least (but maybe also least) is idol singer-actor Sungyeol, whose casting has been confirmed although a character has not been decided. He’s certainly very pretty, but having sat through his awkward and often disconnected acting in High School Love On, I’m the least interested in his casting out of everyone. It does seem that his is a less prominent role, though, so at least I’m not upset about it either.

JTBC has confirmed that it’ll be picking up D-Day, but has not yet solidified at airdate. There’s lots of talk about it getting the Friday-Saturday timeslot after Beloved Eun-dong, which would put its premiere around August.

Jung So Min finally... back to dramaland.
And with kim young kwang, it will be hilarious. I found them interesting in we can get married, even though they're not a couple there, still it's reunion.

I don't mind how the story goes, even I have an interest in medical since I'm nurse. So definitely watch this drama.

Can't wait...

Their characters in "Can we get married" had no direct relationship.

Jung So-min's and Ha Suk-jin's characters in the sitcom "Standby" also had no direct relationship.

Double reunion ...

Ever since Angel Eyes, I don't mind medical dramas at all. If the leads have half the chemistry that Lee Sang-yoon and Gu Hye-sun had, I don't care about anything else. I'm shallow like that.

Personally I thought the first two episodes of Angel Eyes was great, but it went downhill really badly after that.

Wondering if Jung So Min backed out of Reply 1988 because of this - maybe SM&CC really wanted her for this? Orrrrrr you know, they preferred Hyeri. ((((((((((I'm trying very hard to not comment unnecessarily ...............)))))).

And oh dear, I liked Sungyeol in his web drama with that girl from 4minute. It was harmless and very very cute, mostly thanks to the special effects and editing but! Cute!

Jung So-min is pretty - and not in a non-descript way.

Whatever happened to Kim Jung-hwa’s career?

A no. of yrs ago, KJW seemed set for major stardom but then she pretty much disappeared off the map (a few minor roles); not sure how much work she was doing overseas in China and Japan.

KJW debuted yrs before JSM and yet here, KJW is not even the co-female lead, but a supporting player.

Sungyeol's actually not a bad actor, he just suffered from bad script-itis in HSLO (much like most of the cast in that awful show). I'd recommend watching his web drama Please Remember Princess before completely writing him off like this.

Try watching watching Love Poten and come back to me. (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x171o34_4mfsubs-please-remember-princess-e01_lifestyle#from=embediframe). There are 12 episodes.

From start to end, HSLO was a badly written drama that just turned worse with each episode. The characters and the plot weren't well thought out. I think he did pretty well considering he was able to act out an angsty, unreasonable teenager despite the fanfic-like plot and role he was given. It's true that his character's actions didn't make sense but role =/= acting skills.

Was that necessary to say that about Sungyeol? You didn't say anything like that about the others, and he isn't a bad actor compared to most of the mediocre actors I say he is two/three levels higher than them. He played his character well in High School Love on and so did the others in that drama especially the leading roles, it wasn't a bad drama at all like all of you are saying. Its probably because the characters were living a life like me...Though the end could have been better but at least it wasn't like the ending in mylovablegirl. If you actually take the time to watch every drama he was in you would see that your opinion would change. Bye bye.
