Script reads for new KBS spring dramas Producer and School 2015

I’m really looking forward to KBS’s spring lineup, which will bring us the teen coming-of-age drama Who Are You–School 2015 on Mondays and Tuesdays, and the industry insider drama Producer on Fridays and Saturdays. Both shows held their script reads to launch production, with about a month left before premieres roll around. The two dramas are as different as you can get — one is chock full of star power and laughs and the other is brimming with fresh faces and teen angst — but I’m equally excited for both.
Producer is the showbiz drama about variety producers that stars Cha Tae-hyun (Jeon Woo-chi) and Gong Hyo-jin (It’s Okay, It’s Love) as ten-year veteran producers. He’s kind of second-rate while she’s ambitious and prickly, and Kim Soo-hyun (You From Another Star) enters the fold as a rookie PD who works under them.
He leaves a stable future as a prosecutor to join the network because of his first love (a cameo by Jo Yoon-hee), and IU (You’re the Best, Lee Soon-shin) rounds out the main cast as a top star with an icy façade. It’s a show that has a lot of hype to live up to — the cast, the You From Another Star shadow that it has to step out of. But it’s nothing that a heaping dose of comedy and romance won’t fix.
Who Are You–School 2015 also has big shoes to fill, since it’s the sixth installment of a successful franchise for KBS that launched dozens of careers in the nineties, then came back in 2013 with a soulful story about angsty teenagers and their very real problems. Kim So-hyun (Girl Who Sees Smells) headlines the series as a pair of twins whose fates get swapped; this season the mystery surrounding her characters will drive the plot.
Nam Joo-hyuk (Surplus Princess) and Yook Sung-jae (Plus Nine Boys) have been cast as the male leads, and since they’re pretty even in acting experience — pretty much one drama each — I’m not sure if one has higher billing. Nam Joo-hyuk plays a star swimmer, while Yook Sung-jae is a bad boy who rules the school.
David Lee (Gu Family Book) plays the smartest kid in school who rivals Kim So-hyun for first place; Lee Cho-hee (Maids) is a model student who hides an ambitious side, and she’s a bit of a pot-stirrer among her friends. Hello Venus’s Yooyoung (Sly and Single Again) is a mean girl who parties and bullies her classmates, and Park Doo-shik (She’s So Lovable) plays her boyfriend. He’s also a punk, and together they’ll be the school’s gangster couple.
Now that we’ve got the cast of up-and-comers lined up, I just hope there’s a gritty teen story to back it up. Adding mystery is all good and well, but let’s not stray too far from what makes this franchise solid.
Who Are You–School 2015 premieres Monday April 27, and Producer is due to air on Fridays and Saturdays in early May.

Is the main couple for Producers, Gong Hyo-jin and Kim Soo-hyun or Kim Soo-hyun and IU? :-) Pretty excited for this!
On School 2015, I really do hope that they don well. Kim So-hyun is getting prettier each day, and she look kinda good together with Nam Joo-hyuk after seeing them together side-by-side :)

Sure hope so! As a fan of CTH and GHJ, I'd rather see them igniting the screens together with their acting chops and chemistry. And IU and KSH would just look cute together so I hope those two get paired up.

Lol is it just me, or does everybody realize that Kim Jongkook is the only bright color between black, white and grey?
He doesnt look nervous though, I hope he does well.
Cant wait for Producer!
Still hope that Jeon Jihyun will make a surprise cameo.

I'm confused... anyone knows who are the teachers in School 2015? Or this is a no-teacher school?
I understand that the younger cast is usually more interesting for most of the audience, but the teachers shouldn't be as irrelevant as they seem to be :|

Yeah! What made me love School 2013 besides the power bromance, is actually the 2 teachers. Loved Daniel Choi & Jang Na-ra so much there and the show would have been so different without them.
Or maybe the new School 2015 focuses on students more, thus teachers are all just unimportant side characters. Nevertheless, I'm gonna keep this on my radar ;)

I was wondering the same thing. Seasoned actors playing the teachers would round out the cast and give more strength to the drama since the male leads are so green. I'm really hoping the drama gives the most weight to Kim So Hyun's characters and stays away from cheesy drama cliches. If the male leads aren't strong, hopefully they can take a backseat the same way Park Se Young did in 'School 2013". It would be nice to see a female centric "School' this time around since 'School 2013' was male centric.

School 2013 is female centric. That's the reason why they got Jang Nara. Her character may not be as striking as the two guys', but she's the lead character alright. Do you really think an actress who's been playing female centric roles almost all her acting career will take a backseat to rookies like LJS and KWB? Besides, School 2015 will focus on Kim So-hyun since she's the absolute lead, so there's really no chance of her turning into a Park Se-young since the whole narrative is based on her.

I just finished watching School 2013, and the teachers were awesome! They really rounded out the commentary on the adolescence, friendships, the school system and society.
Not sure if the 2015 might be more student-focused - the kids of today could be, if anything, even more jaded and cynical and adult than 2 years ago!
Would love a cameo by the 2013 cast, like the Reply 1997/1994 series, or even Degrassi!

He was beyond adorable in Surplus Princess.

I wasn't planning on watching School, but Kim So-hyun in her first leading role is really something I wouldn't miss. I hope everyone in the cast holds their own because she's going to be fantastic as always.
As for Producers, it's going to be the drama of the year and I just hope they can live up to the expectations and hype. I'm so excited for this!

Even on Running Man, he's known for being a pretty bad actor haha. A lot of variety personalities are good at being various versions of themselves but terrible at acting out actual characters.
I'm just hoping the writers fill us up with enough wonderful meta-jokes between KJK and Cha Tae-Hyun to make up for Jong-kook's awkwardness. On the upside, I don't think anyone will really criticize Jong-kook's acting, since any fans who would look forward to his presence in the drama will already know he's an awkward turtle.

I love the cast as a whole for producer, but would prefer if Cha tae hyun and gong hyo jin have more screentime. KSH too overrated for me. Too much is not good. I like to see kim jong kook awkward acting too. Looking forward to the drama. Please be good !

I haven't seen You from another star (Haha, I know!), but I am definitely watching this because of Cha Tae Hyun and Gong Hyo Jin. It's been more than 10 years since I've seen My Sassy Girl and I've seen so many Korean dramas and films, but I will never, ever forget Cha Tae Hyun in it. Kim Soo Hyun who?

I may be the only one on the planet but You From Another Star was just good (nothing phenomenal in my book) but worth a watch if you've got nothing else to do.
I already feel all the bricks headed in my direction *runs*
Cha Tae Hyun and Gong Hyo Jin is what really gets me going, how have they not had a drama together yet!? Masters of their craft....Kim Soo Hyun is decent and pairs well with IU who isn't so bad herself.

KSH was wearing the same cap he wore during YFAS script reading i guess, IU is pretty .... I am putting very low expectation for this drama, if the drama fail to deliver then I wouldn't feel so disappointed :D

My reasons for watching PRODUCER:
1. Cha Tae-hyun (forever and ever)
2. Kim Jong-kook (is he still in? He's not in the stills??)

I am definitely watching Producer for Cha Taehyun. I just love him! Everyone else is just an added bonus for the show :P
But I had read and seen an article about how some were shocked about the less than expected amount of screen time given towards Kim Soohyun. So I guess it seems like they are giving, so far, the main 4 an equal amount, which I definitely hope stays. I would hate to have these big names on the project who are there for the first couple of episodes but then get pushed to the side.
Either way I'll definitely be watching the drama and hoping for the best!

First of all, the actors here just had SMALL TALENT fee for Producer.
I bet it really is a good drama.
Next, Kim soo hyun picks the best drama. Moon Embraces, My Love, Dream High. Best movie, Secretly Greatly.. So producer is a drama that won't disappoint! Really really looking forward to it and maybe this will be the best drama of 2015.

I dont know but I'm not feeling for Kim Soo Hyun (I never watch You Came from Another Star lol). I like him in Moon Embrace the Sun, but that it. Never fond of him but hopeful this is will be

Can I also say that the dudes look way older than Soo Hyun? hahaha I mean, they probably don't have that many years of difference, but she has such a baby face. I can see how that might jeopardize my shippings if I end up giving School a try.

I'm real excited for this drama because of the amazing cast, but also real nervous the possibility of this going bad as well... So many start off well, and go a bit meh near the end.
But it's definitely lovely to see Gong Hyo Jin onscreen again~
