Running Man: Episode 242

In the nearly five years Running Man has been on broadcast, it’s no surprise that it’s gained quite the international fanbase. There’s no better time than the present to give those fans a chance to submit their own games and shake up the same ol’ weekly routine. But sometimes it’s nice to see an old classic make another reappearance and inject some new life into the game.

EPISODE 242. Broadcast on April 12, 2015.

Given how Running Man is hitting its fifth anniversary this year, and the same games can be rehashed only so many times, it’s nice to see the show branch out and get ideas from its international friends—that’s you guys!

Time to meet our three Hallyu reps today: actor Jung Il-woo, CNBlue’s Jung Yong-hwa, and FT Island’s Lee Hong-ki. Yong-hwa looks right at home with the cast, and Hong-ki frequents the same gym Jong-kook exercises at.

Suk-jin is eager to upload a photo together with the flower boys, which spurs Yong-hwa to comment that Big Nose Hyung is always on social media. Lol, takes one to know one. Yong-hwa: “But why would you upload a selfie with a face mask on?”

For today’s Global Mission Tour, our teams will be playing games put together by the fans. The show received over 2,000 submissions from all over the world, and Gary mentions that the viewers reached out to him on Twitter, too.

Although today’s split is 3 vs. 7, only one person from the team of three will take on the other seven. Who better to lead the trio than Jong-kook, and Jae-suk immediately grips, “What kind of 3 vs. 7 competition is this?!”

Jae-suk will lead the seven, and at once, he moves aside to leave Jong-kook with his lackeys aka Gary and Haha. Jong-kook chooses Kwang-soo and Il-woo to round out his team. And though Il-woo slaps on a belated smile, Haha asks, “Why does Il-woo look so uncomfortable?” Il-woo: “I’m just shy.”

That leaves the Seven: Jae-suk, Suk-jin, Gary, Haha, Ji-hyo, Hong-ki, and Yong-hwa. The team receive their first mission card in the car (“What time is it, Mr. Wolf?”) which suggests it requires strength. Il-woo promises to do his best, and Kwang-soo advises that he shouldn’t give false promises and end up being awful later.

When it comes to being on Jong-kook’s team, you’ve got only two choices: either act dumb or do very, very well until the end. How so very true.

In the other car, Suk-jin snaps a group selfie—heh, it’s the same one from his Weibo. Jae-suk argues that he can’t join in because he’s driving, and Suk-jin says it’s tiring trying to keep up with three social media accounts (Twitter, Weibo, and Instagram). Hahaha.

The first mission “What time is it, Mr. Wolf?” (submitted by a Singaporean fan) requires a muddy field and a tree. Asked what time it is, the wolf will call out a number between 1-8, which corresponds with the number of steps the Seven will take. The group will win if they manage to rip off the wolf’s name tag.

However, the wolf can also call out “It’s meal time!” and rip off a nametag before all seven can run away. The wolf will win if he can rip off at least four nametags in five rounds.

Suk-jin asks if they can try to tear off the wolf’s nametag while being chased. That’s not allowed, and Jae-suk adds some perspective: “You think you’ll be able to tear off Jong-kook’s nametag when he’s coming after you?”

The catch is, each member of the Three can only compete once. And when Haha asks if there’s another game that requires strength today, Taek PD says all the names were given out to them earlier… it’s just that Jae-suk left those cards behind in the dressing room. Whoops.

The Seven start to taunt Jong-kook, in hopes that he’ll compete and get it over with. It works like a charm. While they get dressed, Jong-kook says he even gave today’s masterpiece a name: Silence of the Lambs. LOL.

How appropriate is this background track of EXO’s “Wolf”? Even though he’s supposed to be scary, that cute wolf mask of his is ADORABLE. When Ji-hyo suggests that they come up with a strategy, Jae-suk replies that they have no choice but to sacrifice a few in their numbers.

In the first round, Jong-kook calls out three numbers, which make the Seven nervous. Rightly so, because he calls out mealtime next and bolts down the field like a bullet before expertly ripping off Suk-jin’s nametag.

Scaredy-cat Gary finally figures out the rules, having forgotten the part where he could tear off Jong-kook’s nametag so long as his back is turned. So this time, Gary takes large leaps and so does Hong-ki.

The Six now try calling out softly as if they’re still far away, but then Ji-hyo is still within earshot when she tells the others not to move. Yong-hwa suggests that those in the back remain to keep shouting, and Kwang-soo loudly shares that idea with the class.

So Jae-suk takes that dangerous leap, taking precautions to be as quiet as possible. Gary jumps ahead to and tries to extend himself to reach Jong-kook’s back… but it slips through his fingers.

This situation has turned hilariously dramatic, with Jae-suk telling the others NOT to call for the wolf yet. Gary tries again and oh-so-gracefully falls into the muddy water. Haha calls to abandon the lost, and Jong-kook calls out mealtime to start the hunt and takes out Jae-suk.

In the third round, the remaining Five realize that their first move is crucial, so all of them take great leaps and create as much noise at once to confuse Jong-kook. But then Jong-kook declares that he’s hungry and gives chase.

In a twist of fate, Haha makes a sharp turn and gets left behind. Oh man, this is not looking good for him. It looks like a page right out of a wildlife documentary, and the captions capture each step: After Kookie drives the lamb into a corner… he immediately pounces.

Jae-suk provides live coverage of this vicious event, and in the end Jong-kook comes out victorious.

Jong-kook almost seems sad that this fourth round could be the last, and Jae-suk takes the glass half-full approach: dealing with Jong-kook now means they won’t have to deal with him later.

Yong-hwa manages to outrun Jong-kook, who’s told that after this game, all he’s responsible for is flapping his lips. We skip ahead to when Yong-hwa is thrown towards Jong-kook. Everyone enjoys watching from the sidelines, and Yong-hwa prepares for the riskiest leap of his life…

… and then run right into Jong-kook causing him to ram his head into the tree. Ohhh somebody gonna get a hurt reallll bad.

Thankfully, he gets back into position, and Hong-ki looks like he’s ready to run. Jong-kook calls it and everyone dashes towards the other end of the field. Once again, Yong-hwa barely outruns the wolf, earning his team the Singapore card.

The second game is entitled “World Tour” compiled from a number of fan suggestions. Jong-kook says he’d rather do an all-day nametag ripping race instead, and that kind of fixation is why Jong-kook is on his way to become “a man frozen in time.”

They could go ahead and put him in a cryogenic chamber and wake him up at the age of eighty. In Suk-jin’s case, a manual error left him refrigerated instead of frozen, which is why he’s slowly aging.

Reading off a few of the possible suggestions leaves the cast in utter shock—the first would require six cast members to catch a teammate dropping from a height of three or four meters. The second bring on more laughs: climbing up an oiled 10 meter tall tree and grab a flag.

They take a moment to clarify that their supernatural episodes don’t exactly mean that they have superpowers, and Haha adds, “You think I could actually control time?”

Time for the actual mission: the team who win three out of five games first, wins. The first is entitled “Bottle Fishing,” whereby they must “fish” for the bottle by “catching” it with the pencil hanging from their behind. Oh my god, I can already imagine the unintentionally hilarious inappropriate body positions.

Il-woo is the team rep this round, and he must beat at least four people to win. And so the squat competition begins, as both Il-woo and Hong-ki oh-so-carefully lower themselves onto the bottle. There… really is no other way to describe this, is there?

Il-woo manages to lift his bottle, which falls a moment later. He does beat Hong-ki, but then gets defeated by Jae-suk. The Seven wonder why over-confident Suk-jin volunteered himself, and Il-woo redeems himself by snagging a second point.

Oh man, even I’ve lost count as to how many times Yong-hwa has appeared on this show. But Yong-hwa knows how many (twelve) and Haha adds that Yong-hwa has won more times on Running Man than Suk-jin.

Both Yong-hwa and Il-woo snag their bottles at around the same time… but Yong-hwa’s a second too late.

Jong-kook complains when it seems like Haha hasn’t fastened the belt properly — that’s just where his hips are, and Haha attributes his genes to his mother’s side of the family. His shorter height does give Haha an advantage, but Il-woo only needs to grab one more point.

And like the expert bottle fisher he is, Il-woo succeeds and scores the final point. Ha, he even puts on a celebratory butt dance.

Next up is a zombie game where a blindfolded Il-woo will have two minutes to bite all of his victims (the Seven) within a two-minute time limit. But instead of biting down and ripping apart flesh, Il-woo will don lipstick and leave a mark on his victims.

Hahaha, that color really does look great on him. Kwang-soo: “If someone bleeds without a lipstick stain, let’s count that as lipstick.” Il-woo starts groping around as soon as the whistle blows, but his targets are agile and speedy. Growing frustrated, his teammates yell that he’s wasting time.

After what seems like a good long while, Haha becomes his first victim. Il-woo is up to three victims at the one-minute warning, and he crumples to the ground, exhausted. Kwang-soo offers Jae-suk to Il-woo, but at the crucial moment, Jae-suk offers Kwang-soo’s arm to the zombie instead. Ow, that’s gonna hurt.

Needless to say, Il-woo doesn’t hit his goal. His fiery competitive spirit burns, just like it did when he lost a round in the first game. But we skip to the fourth game (after Il-woo won the earphone untangling game) is a stand-off and the rule is simple: either shoot a water gun or successfully block the shot to earn a point. The team that scores four points first, wins.

Il-woo fires the first shot, but then blocks the second. Aw poor Hong-ki has been having a rough day today, and as the reassuring hyung who always makes sure people get enough screentime, Haha rises to his defense.

Although Yong-hwa and Il-woo arrive at the same time, Yong-hwa fails to shoot. So the others call for a do-over with Jae-suk egging Jong-kook on. Jong-kook takes him up on the offer to “hit him,” and when he starts dragging him away, Jae-suk screams for a VJ to follow them. LOL.

Any time Jae-suk starts to protest about the details of the do-over, Jong-kook cocks his head, all, Wanna take this outside? And while Jong-kook is busy setting the table, Suk-jin employs the others’ help to move the tape closer to the table. Hahaha.

Awww, Il-woo lets Ji-hyo shoot directly into his face. She feels super bad about it afterward, and Jong-kook says chivalry is basically dead in this variety’s day and age.

For a moment it seems like Jong-kook caught on about the moved tape, but he simply edges Haha’s foot behind the line. Phew. That closer distance helps Haha grab a point for his team, but that’s when Kwang-soo and Jong-kook finally catch on.

Jong-kook wants to measure the distance with a ruler, and then Suk-jin makes the unpopular offer to switch places. He still bends the rules by placing his heel behind the starting line (“This is my style! I walk around like this!”), but it’s still an easy win for Il-woo, and a rogue pot lid leaves Jae-suk with a sting to the knee.

So the Three win the second mission, and the global variety of its games earns them a “World” card.

We’re then thrown right into the middle of the action, the Seven searching the SBS building as discreetly as possible. And then we hear it: bells. OHO.

Our final mission today was the most-requested game from the fans: a Hide and Seek game with bells. It’s a Running Man classic, and Jong-kook, Kwang-soo, and Il-woo break into wide smiles. The Seven aren’t as excited, but their mission is to find letter cards and spell out “Running Man” on the globe outside before the Seekers eliminate them.

The Seven have earned two cards: “G” from “Singapore,” and an “A” from USA, thanks to a Musical Scare game (where members dropped through the floor) that was edited out. Aw, it looked like it could’ve been fun. The Three have hidden the “R” card in a water fountain tray.

That chilling sound of bells draw near not long after the Seven begin their search. Il-woo spots Yong-hwa and Gary once he turns the corner, and whoa… he’s really fast. Jong-kook comes running from the opposite end to ambush the two, who are promptly eliminated.

Yong-hwa and Gary’s short run makes the others nervous, but then Suk-jin picks up an “N” and Jae-suk finds an “M” in the prop warehouse. They need six more letters to complete the phrase.

Because Il-woo stops for a quick water break, he doesn’t notice Jae-suk running past and into a room. But he does hear the creaking sound of a door and immediately goes to investigate. We hear a door click… but it’s the one down the stairwell and Ji-hyo runs down the stairs.

It isn’t long before he catches up to eliminate her, and Kwang-soo wonders why he hasn’t run into anyone yet. Il-woo captures Suk-jin, who offers up Jae-suk’s location in exchange for his freedom. When Jae-suk doesn’t pick up, Suk-jin offers, “Who do you want?” But Il-woo eliminates him anyway.

Kwang-soo hasn’t seen any potential targets, making his run-in with the already-eliminated Suk-jin the first. He unintentionally gives up Jong-kook and Il-woo’s locations, and when Suk-jin immediately relays that intel, Kwang-soo grabs the walkie-talkie and runs off…

… only to be scared out of his wits when he crosses paths with Il-woo. Hahahaha, he’s your TEAMMATE.

A long-term effect of Hide and Seek Psychosis includes auditory hallucinations of bells ringing in the distance. Soon it’s accompanied by real bells, and Jae-suk flies down the hallway and into a room. But Jong-kook has spotted him and pushes his way into the door.

Seeing Jae-suk struggling, Jong-kook asks if he’s pushing against the door. He is, and then Jong-kook swings the door back and forth with ease. Spartakooks hasn’t forgotten Jae-suk’s taunting behavior towards him today and now it’s time for a little payback by tearing off his nametag.

Who gets blamed for the elimination after the fact? Poor Kwon-ryul VJ. Jae-suk: “How could you be even more afraid than I am?” Kwon-ryul: “I’m afraid [of Jong-kook] too.”

It’s down to Haha and Hong-ki to find the remaining letters. Haha gets spotted by Jong-kook, who then sends Kwang-soo away so he can finish the task. Now Hong-ki is all on his own with five more letters to track down. Could he come out as the hero in the end?

Trying to hunt down one man in an entire building turns out to be more difficult than anticipated. Kwang-soo jumps a foot again when he runs into Jong-kook. Heee, that’s the second time tonight.

Hong-ki sneaks a peek around the corner, but then locks eyes with Il-woo. Oh crap, run for it! Down the hallway and stairwell Hong-ki goes, and who does he run into but Kwang-soo, who looks like he had ANOTHER scare. Hahaha.

It isn’t long before Il-woo and Jong-kook join them, and the Three rip off Hong-ki’s nametag together. So once everyone gathers together again, Il-woo attaches the letters to light up the globe, giving him and his teammates the win.

The group sends their sincerest thanks to all the fans for their submissions and then sign off in gold.

Hahaha... So much fun in this episode! Il Woo really shines in this episode.. And oh the second games are so much fun! The bottle fishing is from my country (Indonesia) and it used to be a game to celebrate our Independence Day. So do "climbing a tree with lubricants to grab a flag", which not picked by the members.. It's hard, but not impossible and will be hilarious if I see one in RM :D

The moment I read that "climbing a tree with lubricant.." and that bottle game, its definitely from Indonesia. Lol
I wish they play Lompat Karung aka jump race with a sack. That would be hilarious.

Wow. The climbing the greased bamboo tree is actually a suggestion from the Philippines. Its a folk game in the country called palo sebo. So it basically means, indo and phil have common games. Lol. We are one!

lol in Mexico it's climbing "el palo encebado" and it's usually a flagpole that they grease up... it used to be a really popular game on gameshows here.

Fishing bottle! I'm from Indonesia and I used to play it when I was a child. It's a traditional game but we usually use nails instead of pencil and glass bottle instead of plastic bottle. And we don't have to hold for 3 seconds, just hold the bottle with the nail in it and run to the starting line where we started before. I don't know if it's modified for running man or that's how it's played in the sender's region. It's getting rare now though.
Il Woo is so good!

Seems like I am the only one who is a little bit disappointed with this episode. Maybe my expectation was too high upon seeing Jung Yung Hwa, he was always great as a guests, the eight member of RM.

The games were not that much fun, hoped for better ones as it's Global ideas... I was so excited about the name tag elimination, but...

Anyway, I enjoyed RM bickering more than the games, got so much fun from it in this episode.

Production team should include name tag elimination every episode (like in early RM Episodes) because that is what makes RM great to watch. But the members are now 4 years older, and name tag elimination is tiring...

I will still watch and awaits weekly episode, love the casts. Hope it gets better ratings.

Uh, nope. You're not the only one. The bottle fishing segment was a bore for me. KJK's wolf segment was super fun and the best part was the mouse bells elimination game. But, yes, overall a bit disappointing.
Loved the guests line-up, though. JIW said he always wanted to be on the show and he did really great when he finally was on! I hope he will come back.

name tag ripping been pretty much turned into a childs game to make sure none of the guests get hurt, that in turn has to mean scripting or at lest very firm whispers to the RM team to go easy.

I think the nametag ripping this time was actually the opposite of scripted... Jung Il-Woo was fiercely competitive, and he was pushing himself to the max the entire game. I'm guessing it's a game that depends a lot on who the guests are though (more fun when you have more aggressive/enthusiastic guests on), which is why they can't play it all the time. And I'm pretty sure if the last game was scripted, the producers would've made it far more interesting and tense than it actually turned out to be.

I agree. I don't think the Bells hide and seek game was scripted. The 3 team won by a land slide. Ilwoo was very enthusiastic. Them catching Gary and Yonghwa so early was a game changer. After that 2 of the strongest players were out of the game.

If it's scripted then the results will be closer with a more tensioned ending.

Whoah. Jung Il-woo was a revelation in this episode (he was a total bro!). In fact, he was largely the reason why their team won (KJK gets full marks for choosing great teammates -- JK provided intimidating strength, JIW displayed excellent physical coordination and the fiery drive to win, and Kwang-soo provided noise and invisibility LOL!).

I really enjoyed this episode (I was laughing my head off half the time). I imagine it must have been quite exhausting for the RM regulars and their guests. KJK makes a scary and effective bogeyman. LKS walking smack dab into people and getting spooked by his own encounters gave me a fit of giggles. JSJ, in his own inimitable way, was funny, too (esp. his lame-brained attempts to gain advantage). Hong-ki's hair looked good enough to eat. And, of course, it was awesome to see Yong-hwa again.

I look forward to the day when Woo-bin, Yong-hwa and JIW can come back (together) as guests in another highly competitive, no-holds-barred, and exciting RM episode.

Jung Il Woo is now my boy crush. I'm surprised at myself for crushing on a bro, which is not quite my type. I admit to watching th hide and seek with bells twice, to see him in action.

I'm currently watching him in Moon Embracing the Sun, which hides too much of his physique. He needs to do a more athletic role soon.

He looked so good with that lipstick on too.

Thanks for the great recap, as usual!

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode, and I thought the games and the premise were awesome. I loved the part where Jae-suk was reading out suggestions that didn't make the cut and the cast was like "o____o;; we're humans too! we can't fall three or four meters in a 'loyalty game' and survive!". I would've enjoyed seeing more of the game where they fell down into the ball pit though, that looked fun.

Man, Jung Il-woo was awesome (okay, I still have a soft spot for the Scheduler but whatever...). He was definitely competitive, maybe a bit too competitive, but wow I didn't expect him to be as fierce and athletic as he was. I was astounded that the three-man team managed to win, with Kwang-soo doing literally nothing except scream in that final game.

When Gary and Yong-hwa had the misfortune of being out though, I was like "damn, Ji-hyo is that team's last hope," and then she was the next to go. After that it was pretty clear Mission Team didn't have a chance, and so the final bells hide and seek was a bit anticlimactic. I feel like the end of this episode simultaneously proved both that RM usually *isn't* scripted... but also that scripting is pretty important for variety. I feel like everyone was really excited for the return of bells, but it ended on a whimper because the Chasing Team really just swept, and it wasn't even close the way those hide and seek games usually were in the past. Would've been nice to see a bit more of a showdown, I won't lie. I actually expected Il-woo to let Ji-hyo go when he caught her, but he really took his competitiveness to the end and tore her nametag. XD Even she was a little surprised.

Looooved that episode :)
Although it's true that the screentime wasn't equal for all the guests, I guess some stand out and other don't sometimes.

The games were good but I would have loved to see the games where they fall ! It looked so much fun. Can't SBS upload some BTS on their website after each episode ? I WANT TO SEE THEM ALL.
Hide and Seek with Bell, the most classic of all :) They got badly swept though XD.

I'm not a regular RM watcher, just depending on the guests. This episode was thoroughly enjoyable for me. I laughed and squealed practically all episode long.

What time is it, Mr. Wolf ? was intense and fun ! But yeah, I wish the aces were not eliminated that easily in the hide and seek.

the most interesting game is the first game, so much laugh with jongkook cute style. I think jongkook hurt so much when his head hit the tree, but i love when yonghwa immediately bow and kneel in front of him because he felt sorry, but jongkook only said kwenchaan yonghwa ya.

lil bit disappointed with ripped name tag game, too short, and gary + yonghwa eliminated too early. they used bell for the chaser but they didn't give the mission team with a clue.

The games sometimes were boring because they took too long but I'm so happy they played the bell hide and seek. I really missed it.

The suggestion from the Philippines, the palo sebo or greasy pole game would have been fun to watch if played by the cast.

i liked the episode but the games they played are dissapointing. Since it's was submitted by fans, i was expecting an original game like the fan suggested to climb the bamboo thing. -.- I wonder if the Musical Scare was an original one? I really anticipated that game but it was edited out. ><

Mr Wolf, SG version of Rose of Sharon has Blossomedm. I think they played it on the 3rd RM Hunting (ep 118??)

Is it just me....? While the 3 guests were great choices and the mud game was fun - it seemed like the Suk-jin show. I don't have anything against him but I see his mug every week. It was like he has a new contract that gives him too much camera time.

Why in the world with 3 good looking guests would the PD put Suk-jin up front in the van? Poor Yong-hwa was was way in the back, the 3rd row of seats. Couldn't even see him!

Poor Hong-ki was actually blocked from the camera by Suk-jin at the bottle games. Suk-jin was standing again right beside Jae-suk like he's the vice president.

This could have been a great show but HK and YH didn't get the air time (and respect) they deserved.

The other RM members didn't fair well either... Strange episode.

It's called manners. The eldest get the most comfortable seat and the youngest will get the most uncomfortable seat which is usually right at the back.

And I like that JSJ has more air time nowadays, I'd rather see him than idol guests.

Lol Running Man has never been the Suk-jin show, and so it's nice to see him getting some airtime, because he's actually a pretty witty guy.

Also I'm pretty sure it's the members and not the PDs who decide on their own where to sit, because you usually see them in a variety of different combinations between different car rides and different episodes. Also it's also about how comfortable they are with each other... the younger ones and bros are usually more comfortable squeezing in and getting touchy with each other in the back, whereas Suk-jin as the oldest hyung gets the respect of sitting in the seats with more space in the front.

Agreed.
Also I dont think the show is about showcasing young pretty idol face. Even though there has been a lot of these types coming in as guests lately, I dont think runningman fans tune in to watch the guests. We watch it for the regular members and yes in some eps some gets more airtime than others. Ji suk jin is actually pretty witty n smart and am glad the show is highlighting that.

It was expected for Hongki and Yonghwa to get less screen time than Ilwoo because they were on the larger team and didn't get a solo game to themselves. Plus fans of RM watch for the cast. Most guest are not variety stars so they are less entertaining than the cast.

Lots of great moments in this episode.

Kookie relishing his wolf role with so much glee. No one else will be able to do it as well as him or make it as interesting. He really suits the "villian" role. Enjoyed this section so much because of him.

The bottle game is interesting but it went on for too long especially since it's the same player Jung IlWoo. After a few times I got bored seeing the same guy maybe because I don't know him.

The water gun game is hardly unique, it's played in 1N2D often, and the difficulty is much higher there as they have to do elephant spins sometimes. They shouldn't have included this game as a game suggested by international audience. And then it's the same guy playing again. Yawn. Only liked the shennanigans with the cheating.

Would have liked to see the LKS game that was edited away. They don't have to show each and everyone for time purposes, only the elimination drops. Noted that the lucky goddess won again in a game of luck!

Bell hide and seek was concluded too efficiently by the chaser team. Probably why it was taken away from the programme. Still interesting thou!

Favorite part is when Jihyo hid under the blanket and Jae Suk blaming VJ Kwon Ryul, it's so nostalgic, some things never change.

Jae suk blaming Kwon ryeol hahahaha. Was he asking if kwon reol was scared or was he scolding kwon ryeol for closing the door too hard? In the episode w eng sub that I watched it seemed Jae suk was asking Kwon ryeol "why you have to slammed the door so hard?" -- this was a cute moment, in the old days jae suk would even ask kwonreol "why you didnt help me hold the door closed so jong kook can't get me" hahahha these two are good combo. It's so nice to still see them together.

I'm not 100% sure but I think Kwon Ryeol is also on 1n2d?

Me too! It would have been nice to see a bit more than 5 secs of the LKS/SJH game. She was barely there the whole ep, except when Il Woo let her spray water in his face (cute moment) and when she got taken out at the end (by the self-same Il Woo, lol!)

Jae Suk and his VJ - 'tis a beautiful partnership! I think Team Seven might have survived a bit longer, but the tell-tale VJs trailing in their wake kinda gave it away :) It might have evened the odds if they'd introduced a "3 second delay" handicap so the chasers had to wait a bit before giving chase? Those letters were too well hidden!

I like Suk Jin in this episode. <3

I can finally laugh at his jokes. Especially when he adjust their starting line! And when he said that he usually walk on his heels!!

the "silence of the lambs" game was fun - the others less so - the name tag ripping game would have been more fun if the letters were more easily found - cuz they weren't - there was less suspense and sense of excitement

This ep was a mix of good and not so good.

The wolf/sheep game was the highlight due to Kookie's energetic role in playing the "villain."

There were some fun antics such a Gary falling into the muddy water when he tried to stretch out.

Really did seem like a wildlife documentary when Haha was separated from the rest of the "herd" and the Tiger/Wolf moved in for the kill and when Kookie sprung forward in a leaping attack and Jung Yong-hwa just barely managed to make safely onto land.

While Yong-hwa is basically an honorary RM member, still think if there is to be a younger, regularly occurring guest to be made a permanent member - that it should be Kim Woo-bin.

The RM members are totally at ease w/ Yong-hwa, but his strength is in the games and there isn't nearly as much as the banter and playing around as w/ KWB, which is just as impt., if not more so.

Of the World Tour games, the bottle fishing was the best one since it was a bit humorous to see grown men playing a kids game (and all the antics such as Kookie accusing Haha of cheating and Haha insisting that he has a natural low-waist due to inheriting genes from his mother's side).

The Zombie game was a dud and the water pistol/lid game wasn't that much better (the best part being Kookie being so concerned w/ cheating from the other side but missing the obvious cheating).

The Hide and Seek game wasn't that interesting either since it didn't have a particularly interesting twist to the game.

Jung Il-woo was the most entertaining out of the 3 guests, but this ep was missing the banter/clever quips from the guests that the best eps tend to have.

Compared to Yonghwa, I thought Woo Bin was boring, and though Yonghwa may not have the strength, i think woo bin is too.

maybe woo bin is stronger than yonghwa, but yonghwa is more interesting to watch, he can blend with the other members and quickly adapt with variety situation. not mention he's more faster when he run.

jung il woo got more spotlight because it's first episode became RM guest, but a lil bit boring when he play all the games in the 2nd round

I think simply because Yong hwa blends in too easily with the members, that he will not be a good permanent addition. We need someone who is really different from all the casts, with their own character, and can stand out, for the purpose to revitalise the programme. Not someone who can blend in. What's the point of getting someone who will let the show continue on the current stale path without changing things?

Kim Woo Bin is doing pretty well to be entertaining since his episode as the spy. He speaks up more now. I still remember he kept giggling and talking only to his fellow guests only during his first few appearances. Wonder who opened up his variety instincts.

Woobin has definitely improved. I think he just grew comfortable with the cast and the format. His first pairing with Kwangsoo in Australia was when he started to shine.

Has nothing to do w/ strength, and besides, think Yong-hwa is better at the games.

Both have easy camaraderie w/ the RM cast, so that's not the issue either.

Woo-bin would be better as a permanent member b/c he is better at going along and being active in the jokes/banter (which is a big part of RM) while Yong-hwa isn't so much engaged in that.

I like Song Joong-ki, but he also didn't really engage in the back and forth banter; one of the few times he did so (at the aquarium when quipped that Ji-hyo's restaurant should be "old, foul-mouthed halmoni's" restaurant, the others were shocked/surprised.

what's up with the comparison between Yong Hwa and Woo Bin?It's not like RM would get another member anyway...both have their own character and has strong showmanship in RM..

This was a very fun episode! I love it when they use fans idea, makes you feel like the fans are part of the runningman family.
Jung Il woo looked uncomfortable in the beginning and he slowly started to get into the games. That image of him squatting to get the pencil in the bottle was just priceless. I am from Indoensia but I dont remember ever playing that game, but from others commented seems like it was played in indonesia.
The wolf game, is that a variation on catching tha wolf? My singaporean friend showed me but that was a card game where there is 1 wolf, 1 policeman and villagers and you have to catch the wolf before he eats all the villagers.
Young hwa is a seriously fast runner, he outran jong kook! That was awesome to watch even when I was rooting for jong kook. He really enjoys this type of wolf role, his cute wolf head shaking was so cute.
The hide n seek was great. It has been a really long time since they played that. I was so disappointed yung hwa n gary got eliminated so fast. Jung il woo was sooo bloodthirsty in the game, he should have at least let ji hyo go to make it more interesting. On the other hand ji hyo is usually good in finding things so it would be dangerous to let her go.
This episode is going in one of my fave running man eps!

Thanks for your recaps, gummimochi. RM are on a roll lately!

Kookie is just too good at those "hunting" roles - at the beginning and end, it was like a segment straight out of Nat Geo Wild! He didn't need the Wolf mask at all. His relaxed taunting and butt wiggling was darn cute! During that final inevitable confrontation with Jae Suk, he was just totally toying with JS, casually swinging the door back and forth like JS wasn't putting any strength into it!

The bottle fishing was interesting, if only because of the hilariously undignified position.

The members weren't the only ones experiencing auditory hallucinations, either! I had to shake my head several times due to the continuous faint sound of bells ringing ... :)

FNCBoys seemed so excited attending RM together, so I'm really sad that Hongki didn't have much role and Yonghwa couldn't bring his ACE persona out. I always have soft spot for Hongki and Yonghwa is like my forever bias. ;A;

1st game was okay and Ilwoo was doing great. It's not his fault that I feel disappointed. I looked forwad games where anyone could actively participate and bottle game was a waste of screentime. Don't mistake me, I'm from the country of the suggested game. It's just that I didn't find bottle game appealing enough for filling 1/3 of the episode, because the players weren't rotating. Basically it's Ilwoo vs other team member.

Goddess of Luck Jihyo and The Self-Acclaimed Handsome Gary-shwi were almost transparent in the background. And we all know they are too great to be that kind of role.

Btw I like the part when Jaesuk thought Yonghwa has attended for the 16th time, instead of 12th. And Ilwoo looked surprised then asked, "Are you a regular cast?" like ahaha, Yonghwa is family member that Jaesuk/other RM didn't even remember or bother to count anymore.

And Haha was so sweet to put a defence on his Dear Hongki.

Yonghwa is more athletic, whereas Woo Bin isn't (he couldn't do the plunger climb or the head butt (heirs ep). The more Woo Bin appears, he has learnt how to play on RM & trick/lie to people (ie. Lee Hyun Woo, or snagging JSJ down on the bars) and that's what made him more interesting to watch. Yet, on the "twenty" ep, he wasn't as entertaining. Kang Ha Neul was bec his confident persona went down the tubes by all his "failures". So for a regular cast mate, Yonghwa could play the games better, think quick on his feet, and have no prob making a fool out of himself. WB isn't that type of guest… yet… KJK is the braun(s) of the show, so you don't need the guest to be that strong. You need someone to be smart & athletic to give KJK a run for his $, and YH did that on the Choi Ji Woo ep in Busan (island). That was the best ep with Gary finding his satori mates! YH both was hilarious to stir banter amongst his partners, plus he did outwit KJK & steal his tag. The only thing interesting on this ep was the wolf game. All the rest didn't have much flavour to them. JIW was just fierce. HK added little to the game.

Yonghwa's always such a delight to see in RM...I know its been said a couple of times but he really seems like a member already...Its always fun to see him work hard matching Kim Jong Kook....Hope to see more of him in RM..I'm sure this wont be his last guesting...lol

Jung Il Woo was so competitive...That look on his face when he loose was so cute..kekeke

up until the final game, this was top notch! The games weren't the best, but they were refreshingly new and best of all - the banter between the members was hilarious!
It was a very funny episode indeed. Great job by everyone!

Sadly, the PD's chose a really crappy venue for the final game. It was too small and the 3-man team won too easily. Not exciting to watch.

Jongkook and kwangsoo knew that it is not a smart idea to oust everyone quickly, but Jung Ilwoo is a variety newbie so he killed the entertainment completely by ousting people too early.

to those who always bitch that Running Man is fake and stuff.... this episode proves it is not!

There's no way that they would end up scripting that final game like that... This was clearly not in the plans and it's obvious to me that usually the cast members "script" the final games to make it more entertaining.

It's like KJK this time. He knows that ousting too many too early kills the entertainment value so usually he takes it easy in the beginning. It's not scripted in any way, it's just taht the cast knows how to to put a good show.

I was re-watching this and it seems like Il Woo might be a fan of Ji Hyo. In the game, he lets her win and in the name-tag elimination, he kisses her name-tag after he has ousted her haha.

I was like naw, he seems so sweet and it's nice to see a male guest being nice to Ji Hyo.

Hongki is not enthusiastic on this episode maybe because he is not that used to variety programs like this one, but I hope to see him again with the rest of the FT ISLAND members. That way, he'd be more comfortable, thus active .
