News bites: April 5, 2015

  • This movie is shaping up to be a must-watch: Go Ah-sung (Heard It Through the Grapevine) is finalizing negotiations to co-star with Im Shi-wan in Thoughts of Oppa, in which she would play a piano teacher to his soldier-turned-choir-lead. Go has worked with the director before in Elegant Lie, and the 1950s human drama will begin filming shortly. [Osen]
  • Jo Han-seon (Thrice Married Woman) has committed to an indie movie titled Gorae Gorae Ride the Carriage (gorae gorae means loudly). The cast will include musical theater actors Kim Jae-bum, Han Ji-sang, and rock group Monni’s Kim Shin-eui, who will wear the hat of musical director, in addition to acting in the film. It will be about a band that forms and their road to success, and the film’s soundtrack will be made up mostly of Monni’s songs or composed for the movie by Kim Shin-eui. The media is hyping Gorae Gorae Ride the Carriage as the Korean version of such musical films as Once and Begin Again, and cameras will begin rolling in late April or early May. [MBN]

  • Jo Han-seon, Kim Sung-oh

  • Count Kim Sung-oh (Records of a Night Watchman) among the additions to the new Hong sisters drama Warm and Cozy. He’ll play the town’s mayor (and most eligible bachelor). He’s described as mature and wholesome but with a rigid personality, which is a 180-degree departure from his previous role as a killer in Waiting For You. Warm and Cozy airs after Angry Mom on MBC in May. [Joy News]
  • Exo’s D.O. (It’s Okay It’s Love) is positively considering a two-episode cameo in Hello Monster, KBS’s summer Monday-Tuesday drama which will follow School 2015. It’s interesting how much the crime investigations show sounds like OCN’s currently airing Missing Noir M, except for the bit about the female lead stalking the male lead. If he takes the job, D.O. will play the younger version of one of the male characters in the first two episodes. [Ten Asia]

  • D.O.

  • The idol is in demand; D.O. is also being courted for the lead in the movie Innocence, in which he’d play a young, simple-hearted man in love with a young woman who’s in a lot of pain. While that description (or the reverse) could fit most melodramatic movies, we don’t know much else yet. Innocence will be set in Goheung County in Jeollanam-do Province (D.O. will speak with a saturi accent for the role), the movie will be produced by Jupiter Films, and shooting will begin in June. [TV Report]
  • Kang Byul (Miss Mamma Mia) and Jae Hee (Jang Ok-jung Live by Love) will co-star in KBS’s upcoming daily drama Protect the Family. Jae Hee will play an emergency room doctor in a poor village. He’s become jaded and wishes to move back to the city, but when he meets Kang Byul, he’ll experience a change of heart and become a committed doctor once again. Kang is a freelance reporter whose father remarries, and through his union she becomes the head of a household of seven. Thank goodness the ambitious doctor comes along to lend a helping hand. Protect the Family airs in May after the conclusion of You are the Only One. [Joy News 24]

  • Kang Byul, Jae Hee

  • Confirmations are in for Kim So-hyun, Nam Joo-hyuk and Yook Sung-jae, who have taken the leads in KBS’s upcoming Who Are You–School 2015, the sixth of the School series. While we knew Kim would be playing twins, we’ve now learned Nam will play a world-class swimmer, and Yook a volatile boy who dominates the school.

New additions to the show include David Lee, a former child actor who has steadily been building up his filmography (he played the younger version of Ji Sung’s character in The Great Seer and has had smaller roles in films Kundo and The Terror Live). Lee will play the smartest kid in school and Kim So-hyun’s rival. Finally, group Hello Venus’s Yooyoung (Mother’s Garden, Sly and Single Again) will play the school bully, who’s nicknamed Kung Fu Panda because her mascara is always smudged as a result of spending her evenings at the nightclubs. School 2015 will be a Monday-Tuesday drama premiering on April 27. [Dong A, News 1, Sports Chosun]

D.O gets much of acting offers.. I think if he's done with idol career, he pretty much can be fully-fledged actor. Or he can be like other idol-actors who being an idol and acting, like Im Siwan, Eric Mun, Park Yoochun, etc.

I like him better as an actor too, but he needs to build his acting career a bit more before he fully lets go of his idol life. He's only had a couple of acting roles so far. Besides it's not so easy to get out of SM's claws.

SM is a trap, you will never leave that agency once you enter it. The only way out is to sue SM, and then you will be branded as traitor

Uh, SES, Shinhwa, and Fly To The Sky members beg to differ. Wait out the end of the contract and don't re-sign. Simple as that. You still see them promoting in Korean showbiz and freely interacting with current SM artists.

There is also a mysterious case of Kim Kibum who is technically still under SM, but no longer in Super Junior.

0

Half of H.O.T. tried that, it didn't work out too well for them.

0

But Shinhwa has to go to the court to keep their name and had to pay hansomely to win their case, mostly by Eric's father's help..

0

That's a good after thought although it will be a SHAME because his voice is so beautiful.

oh that's not bad at all, especially if he's singing live. He has a nice voice!

(but I confess there are just too many members for me to keep track of, the only ones who stood out were him and the dancing guy in the centre at 1.52 )

0

That's Kai their main dancer :) one of my biases :P ...

0

@fantasy - main dancer, eh? I can see why, he exudes raw sex appeal despite not using the usual sexy-idol shirt removal tactics.

(oh god did I just type that, I hope he isn't underage)

0

Yes yes he IS sexy ... He actually looks older than his real age , he was born in '94 , 3 years younger than me, can't scream "oppppaaaa" *sobs* but I don't care...

Honestly it's not that I didn't see better dancer than him or I didn't see better looking person than him... But when he dances he looks so passionate !!!! And along with those sexy moves when he gives you a cute smile.... His smile is really cute :)

0

He looks his age to me, really - late teens to very early 20s (thank god, legal!). D.O. on the other hand looks younger, which makes him perfect for all the high schooler roles.

either way, I can see why all the girls go wild. If I were 15 years old I'd probably be a bit crazy for them too.

0

Yeahh DO looks younger, and Xiumin too.. Xiumin is the eldest but you can't understand it if you don't know...

By the way 15 years old girls should like them????? I am wayyyy too older :( awwww what about me??? :P

0

I'm not saying people in their twenties shouldn't like them! I'm just saying that I would like them if I were 15 because that is the age at which I liked this particular style of music/performance.

(I'm still a fan of Beast but they have a totally different feel)

0

Anyway it was nice talking to you guys as Exo fans! Thanks for the enjoyable discussion :D

0

Well I am not so sure though, his acting is good will improve too... But I still can't see D.O taking the acting as the ultimate career option. He may be getting appropriate characters right now but I feel he is suitable for some typical roles not much versatile like ISW ... Well it's just my opinion :

I belong to that crazy big fandom of Exo :) I want him to be singer ( beautiful voice) and acting as a hobby ;)

Hi :) glad to meet you chingu :) really off topic but what are your views on Exodus??

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

That's why I think he can consider being actor and idol at the same time..
He has good voice, good looks and equally talented as an actor too. It's okay if he can tackle both.
But personally IMO if his idol career finished, as in he's already 30+ years old he can change the occupation to an actor.

I doubt so. Most of his fans like him for his singing(1 of the main vocal in EXO).
Most fans will continue to support his acting activities even if he's a full-fledged actor.

But I am sure he love singing as much as acting and won't disappoint the fans by becoming a full-fledged actor.

I love Go Ah-sung and Im Shi-wan individually, I can't wait for their movie together. I'm in love with her after Grapevine and him after Misaeng, I hope it lives up to them.

And D.O. is in demand all right, thankfully for the right reason which is that he can act (or at least mostly for the right reason anyway, ha).

oh yes, it's a true black comedy, and excellent so far. It's not like any kdrama I've ever seen, but that makes it even more awesome.

It's good to see that D.O is in demand for his acting, but i hope the schedule won't tire him too much. But since the filming is june i suppose exo is quite free (?) by then. Anyways, looking forward to his appearance in both screens! (Yeah i know i'm greedy lol)

Kim So-hyun is also offered the female lead role in Innocence as D.O.'s partner and still in consideration. I really want to see D.O. in this kind of role. I hope both of them will confirm it soon cause I think they look nice together.

It's a shame that Jae Hee has been reduced to daily dramas. He was one of my favorite actors before he went to the military, but ever since he got out, he's either had bad dramas or been reduced to supporting roles. When he does finally get a leading role again, it's in a daily drama....Pass.

I think I'm looking forward to School 2015.

The film with Go Ah Sung and Im Shi Wan sounds nice and they'd be really cuuuuute. Lol, Im Shi Wan is older than me but I just want to squish him.

YES! Kim Sung Oh is great and always delivers. His role sounds like that of a second male leads? Is he?!?! I'd be so happy; he deserves lots of shine.

What's with all the female idols playing bullies?

I've always thought Jae Hee looked a little bit like Matt LeBlanc and conversely I've always thought it was a shame he didn't do more I was interested in watching.

Go Ah-sung is someone who I love as an actress and who I believe to be beautiful, I also think she looks older than she is in a good way.
