Go Sung-hee courted to become Kim Mu-yeol’s Beautiful Bride
by girlfriday
…Not to be confused with Kim Mu-yeol’s real-life bride Yoon Seung-ah, of course. Go Sung-hee (Spy, Records of a Night Watchman) is considering an offer to join the cast of OCN’s next Saturday night thriller My Beautiful Bride alongside lead actors Kim Mu-yeol (Eungyo) and Lee Shi-young (Golden Cross).
The new OCN drama comes from the writer of JTBC’s gritty noir thriller Heartless City and the PD of Emergency Couple (the latter doesn’t inspire a great load of confidence, just because I distinctly remember Emergency Couple being weirdly disjointed in tone). It’s a pretty straightforward race-against-the-clock premise, about a husband’s frantic search for his missing wife.
Kim Mu-yeol has been cast as the husband who sets out to recover his wife when she goes missing one day, and Lee Shi-young will play the detective on the case who helps him along the way. Go Sung-hee has been offered the role of the titular beautiful bride, which I guess is a relatively minor part if she’s second billed under the cop tasked to find her.
I guess I don’t really have much to complain about when she’s cast as a character who’s missing for the entirety of the drama? I don’t have a passionate dislike for her; I just don’t find her memorable or interesting in any of her roles to date. Perhaps that’ll change with more experience, and I can get behind her playing supporting characters in the meantime.
My Beautiful Bride follows Missing Noir M on Saturday nights beginning in June.

I find her so.....boring. I'm with you on not passionately disliking her or anything but I've seen her in Watchman and Spy and she just is so bland. Hopefully she is gone for most of it and not in ten billion flashbacks.

Go Sung Hee is one of the worst actresses I've ever seen. Nobody likes her. Her acting was horrible in Night Watchman, and she was bad in Spy too. Many people agree she was the weakest link among all the cast members of both dramas. She's not even pretty.

Woah. I mean I'm all for people being vocal about their dislike for her acting (I don't find her all that great either), but it's when remarks like "she's not even pretty" or "I don't even like her face" are getting thrown out that I do a doubletake. When do you have to be pretty to qualify as an actress? I don't see the need to tag that line on there.

Although I agree that remarks was unnecessary but it's kinda related for the discussion. In Korea, there are apparently certain standard on how an actress should look like. There are a lot of comment on kdrama article about how someone not pretty enough for acting, don't have face for acting, etc. I think the OP meant to imply that usually if the actress are pretty enough, they're forgiven in Korea even if they're not that good in acting and in this case she thinks that GSH didn't fit into category of a good actress or a pretty actress.

Even top actresses don't get as many offers in one year as this girl. Who is her sponsor? A terrible actress like go sung hee getting so many leading roles is a huge insult to other actresses. smh

Have only seen her in one thing "Miss Korea" - and there, she was barely passable.
As for the whole "pretty"-thing, wouldn't say that GSH isn't pretty (she's definitely above avg.), but there are a lot more prettier actresses (who are just as good, if not better actresses) who aren't getting the jobs/offers that GSH seems to get.
Also, regarding the pretty-thing, it kinda is an issue when she is made out to be a great beauty like her role in "Miss Korea."

"actresses(who are just as good, if not better actresses)"....big LOL at your comment. You have not seen Night Watchman or Spy yet. Go Sung Hee sucked so hard in these recent dramas. She is such a BAD actress based on majority opinion. As for looks, she is below average according to Korean standards. There's so many actresses better looking than her.

Wow. Calm down. Did she kill your dog? SO much unnecessary vitriol. I like her. So do plenty of people. Attacking her looks on top of that is just catty and petty. No need to be so immature.

LOL, you call someone immature just because of negative opinion about bad acting. "I like her. So do plenty of people"...LOL It's the opposite. Based on many comments I've seen from other sites, SO MANY people do NOT like her. They think she's a very bad actress. Even K-netizens think the same way. To make things worse, they called her ugly.

Well @ Casey, you're speaking from your perception and I'm speaking from mine. Regardless, the kind of people who immediately attack someone's looks rather than their abilities are very small and simple people who should endeavor to be better than that.

April 18, 2015 at 4:58 AM
@Dot,
Laugh my ass off. The OP did not start off by talking about the looks....First, she criticized the actress's horrible acting and then in the end gave her opinion that the actress is not pretty. Nothing wrong with that. Some people immediately judge the looks first, but the OP did not do that.
FYI, my Korean friend told me the GENERAL audience in Korea who saw Night Watchman agree that go sung Hee's acting is VERY BAD and painful to watch. Many I-netizens have the same perception.

Wait. Has OCN always had the PD from Emergency Couple on board? WHY?! The directing in OCN's dramas is always a feast for the eyes: all dark, slick, and grimly beautiful. OCN+Heartless City writer was a match made in heaven. But with this interloper...It's too soon to weep bitterly over what could have been, but let the record show I'm preparing tissues.
I still haven't seen this actress yet so no comment there.

I originally read the name as Go Joon-hee and I was like yay she's finally coming back, then I saw the picture and disappointment set in.
I've always thought Go Joon-hee was a good actress, perhaps a little underrated but that's almost definitely because she doesn't do many dramas and therefore people don't see her often to talk about her.
Whatever the case she's certaintly better than Go Sung-hee who to me doesn't ruin a drama but she doesn't help it either she's just bland.

Personally, I think she put the cart before the horse. She should have started from supporting roles and worked her way up instead of doing the reverse. She doesn't have the acting chops for the lead roles for she was cast in. Not saying she won't in the future, but right now she doesn't have the charisma or the experience.
So, if she's gone after the first one or two episodes, I can get behind it.

I'm sorry @girlfriday, but Sunghee will have a big role, not a small one; you will see.
Remember that in Spy originally it would have little role and suddenly the story was focused on her? This is what will happen here.
I don't know how she gets so many main roles if she can not act and the dramas (in which she was the principal) did not have good ratings. She really have a good sponsor.

Oh God no... If I was convinced that her character can be mute and gone for most of this, I'd say go ahead. At least it's the level of role her horrible skills deserve at this point.
However, she gets such treatment for a reason. Perhaps 'Night Watchman's Journal' is popular in China or something. This means the production will be tempted to give her more airtime.
The last series I watched of her threw its main story out the window for the sake of the romance and turning her into a lead, when she was supposed to be a secondary character. I do trust OCN more than this, but the people behind productions who only care about the money would be tempted and that scares me.
Just... no...

It gets harsh in the comment section sometimes. I can be the same, sadly, but now I've reached a point where I just ignore certain actors/actresses. I hope this doesn't become a habit every time she is brought up.
Anyway, I've only seen her in Miss Korea and thought she did fine. I've no complaints. Excited for Lee Si Young in something new, though!!! I love her. And it will be great to see Kim Mu Yeol on the small screen. The story sounds good (and yes, like Gone Girl which I should read soon). I'm looking forward to this!

I agree -- just because you don't like an actress or her performances, speculation on her backer, or insulting her looks is uncalled for.
One of the nicest things to happen in the last month has been to see the charming performance SSK is giving in Girl Who Sees Smells (and the fun she seems to be having in the BTS) after all the unpleasant commentary on her casting in this and Blade Man.

Commenting on bad acting and unfairness in casting is fine, but it's vile how people bring up looks and hint at promiscuous behavior. And they only seem to do it with female actresses too.
Go Sung Hee sucks as an actress, but her looks have nothing to do with it and her privilege did not automatically come from between her legs. This fandom sometimes...

It's such a turnaround because I was always rooting for Shin Se Kyung (I really, really like her); it's a bit jarring seeing the love she gets now but I hope it lasts.
I've only really ever said someone sucks so I do get a bit scared when people start bringing up "sponsors" and an actress's looks and it happening all the time, becoming increasingly more hostile and sometimes taking up the entire comment section. I just want people to take a breather first. It's not that serious. Just say they can't act (one time) and move on, lol.
