Yeon Jung-hoon gets villainous for Mask

I like Yeon Jung-hoon (Vampire Prosecutor, I Summon You Gold) too much to want him to play second lead characters, but here’s a case where I’ll let that go because I am intrigued about the idea of him playing a hardcore villain — a great antagonist can be just as memorable as a good hero, and I can totally see him taking that next step in his career.

This role is for the SBS melodrama Mask, the miniseries that previously announced that it was courting Su Ae and Joo Ji-hoon to headline, both of whom have now confirmed signing on. Written by Choi Ho-chul of 2013’s addictively angsty Secret, Mask centers around a woman who hides her true identity and marries into a chaebol family.

The relationships sound complicated and mysterious, with characters all at cross-purposes: one man loves the woman unconditionally, one person tries to unmask her true identity, another tries to hide it, and one already knows it. Oh, and they all live under one roof. Awk-ward! What ensues is a tangled web of secrets, rivalries, scheming, revenge, and mystery.

Yeon Jung-hoon plays an absolute villain with a sharp brain and gentle appearance, which falls in line with the whole theme of people wearing masks and hiding their true selves under facades. Perhaps that means everyone will be cast counter to their existing images? That would actually be really fun. I’m going to guess he’s one of the people trying to undermine the heroine and reveal her identity; we don’t know why it’s being hidden or why it’s a big deal, but where there’s a chaebol, there’s a twisted power struggle marked by backstabbing and lies.

Mask will be a Wednesday-Thursday drama that follows Girl Who Sees Smells, and premieres in May.

Reminds me a bit like Queen of Ambition aka Yawang to me.. With her hiding real identity to marry into rich family & with a man trying to unmask it! Either way I'm excited for this!

If you read the plot, It sounds more like
'Bride of the Century'.

"Ji-Sook (Soo-Ae) goes through a difficult period, due to her father's private loan. She begins living as Eun-Ha.
Eun-Ha is from a wealthy family and looks like Ji-Sook.
When Min-Woo (Ju Ji-Hoon) was only 7 years old, he became the successor of a large corporation which his family ran. Due to his position, he cannot reveal his feelings. Through his family, he meets Eun-Ha. He notices she is different from other wealthy woman that he has met. Min-Woo has feelings for her."

Similar or not,in any way, I'm already in :)

Nah it definitely sounds more like Yawang to me the lead girl lived a hard life in poverty Lies about her identity to marry into the rich. A man who desperately loves her and would do anything for her and then trying to reveal her true identity. She tries to hide it while another wants to unveil it then her husband finding out but not really willing to reveal it.

It sounds like Bride of the Century too but only with the switch identity and sad male lead that is used often like in the drama Pot of Gold.

The cast sounds great, so I'll definitely be tuning in to this drama.

But when I read "an absolute villain with a sharp brain and gentle appearance, which falls in line with the whole theme of people wearing masks and hiding their true selves under facades" all I could think about was Kang Do Young.

For the love of all that is good, PLEASE GIVE US A LIAR GAME SEASON 2 DRAMA GODS.

Fairly certain season 2 would have Doyoung in more of a backseat character/omnipotent presence due to the ending spoilers, but dang, I need Liar Game 2. Please just let me erase Ha Woojin's final haircut, he deserves so much better ;;

I don't know whether it's because Soo Ae is the leading lady but this sounds too much like Yawang to me. But the cast is great, I love Joo Jihoon and dayum who can resist Yeon Junghoon.

I wasn't a fan of Secret, but I just hope it won't be too makjang-ish.

I'm torn because I didn't like Secret but with this cast there must be a reason they accepted right? Dunno what Su Ae's ben up to but VP was in Hollywood and I thought for sure Joo Ji-hoon would stay in Chungmuro and slowly make me eat my words concerning everything I said about him since TNK. Writer, please don't screw this up.

Btw was Yawang good?

I do not like Melos but for Yun jung hoon I might watch... I wanted a leading role *still waiting for VP3 btw* but its true, theres villain roles that stand out too! in "Can love become money" he was kind of the villain and the hero at the same time with his antics lol
