School 2015 still without leading man, courts Yook Sung-jae to star

Okay, so leading man-boy might be more accurate for a series like Who Are You–School 2015, but the point is that the drama can’t seem to keep a leading actor interested for more than a week. First Kang Min-hyuk, then Nam Joo-hyuk, and now KBS’s next Monday-Tuesday drama still doesn’t have a leading man for a show that starts in less than a month.
The newest name in consideration is idol-actor Yook Sung-jae of BtoB, who made his television debut as Sook-sookie in Answer Me 1994, then went on to play the middle brother in Plus Nine Boys. He had a cute storyline in that drama, and though he’s still young and is known mostly as that kid in Answer Me who looks like Seo In-gook, he had enough to do in Plus Nine Boys that I thought he had potential for comedy and drama.
I do like that they’re aging down with each casting round to match Kim So-hyun (Reset), who has signed on to play the heroine(s) — a pair of twins whose fates get swapped. If he signs on, Yook Sung-jae will play the star athlete of the school, which is not unlike his cocky judo athlete character in Plus Nine Boys.
I found him endearing in that show, so I can see this pairing working out; though at this point I’m more worried about the production getting a cast together in time. Hope it’s not a sign of backstage drama before the show even makes it on the air.
Who Are You–School 2015 follows Blood and premieres April 27.

There has got to be a pool of young actors out there with real potential than the ones KBS is chasing after... But at this point, maybe getting anyone at all is their main because tick-tock - in Korean time, the drama starts this month!

These two got picked because they're agency has been pushing them a lot lately. Esp Nam Joo Hyuk since his agency is YG. I see him everywhere nowadays. There are definitely a lot of young talented actors that they can choose from but unfortunately FNC doesn't really seem to care.

BTOB is under Cube Entertainment, I don't see how this is related with FNC. Yook Sungjae might have been chosen because he worked quite a lot with KBS recently as a regular cast in variety shows A Song For You, Invisible Man..

I meant that his agency is pushing him everywhere not FNC. I like him but he didn't get the role because of his acting talent. However I do like the he has a freshness about him and with a good script and improvement in acting I hope he shines in this drama.

I see, sorry. Although I'm a fan I must say I'm a lot worried about this casting and production too.. It's true that he got popular through variety shows, but I'm hoping he'll surprise everyone just like he did in Plus Nine Boys.. I don't want to sound like hardcore fan, he still has a long way to go in my opinion but maybe this casting isn't that bad.. They're all very young actors who may shine through this drama. Fingers crossed.

If he's had some it isn't much, you can see his high school photos if you look him up and he looks pretty much the same (except paler now, sigh). I love SIG but I don't think he's actually someone that most people would ask to look like?

Honestly I do like him and Nam Joo hyuk because they seem fresh faced but I was expecting at least one lead male that can act , esp if they're acting with KSH..the male leads seem soo green and it seems like KSH is gonna have to carry the drama on her shoulders :(

Reviews about his previous roles were mostly positive, but he's still pretty new into acting so I'm kind of worried too. But since the plot is centred around the female lead maybe male leads have a lot less to do?? Honestly I'll be watching only for him, but I understand why people are sceptical about idol actors because some of them just can't act.
Considering the highly positive reviews, maybe he deserves a chance.

I like Sung Jae as an entertainer and singer a lot, but I"ll reserve my views of him as an actor for now, since I've not seen him in anything yet. As for School 2015, I'm still not having good feels about it. The plot still looks too sketchy atm and production team isn't the one who produced all the previous series, so yea, very iffy about it. Please do a good job FNC. :/

hmmm Goong S anyone..same thing really totally different cast and production from Princess Hours = a rather forgetful drama. KBS with the way things are going may be sounding the end of the series with this latest installment. Of course who know the idol cast insteed of young promising actors may work..but really hasnt it been done before? Will the korean watches fall for pretty boys with not real acting skills..yet again

If they are going to find a male lead for Kim So Hyun then they need to find someone young or else it will get creepy like in Secret Door. Unless the plot does not involve any kind of romance/pairing. Someone who is below 20 years old and a decent/good actor should do.

Anyway drama casting news on kkuljaem said Yook Sung Jae and Nam Joo Hyuk are both confirmed for roles in School 2015 with Kim So Hyun.

i liked Sungjae in Nine Plus Boys. Okay as the clueless, overeager, highschooler, but not much of anything else. Still, he had a presence, and I hope he can translate that somehow as a lead, and opposite Kim So hyun. Go, go!

Oooh, so he's not lead? I read an announcement of him joining the project and I thought he's gonna be the lead, which I don't really object to. I like School franchise in that it introduces relatively unknown actors (Jo In Sung back in the days) and kick-start their acting career.
