Happy Friday Beanies! I've gotten so far behind in dramas lately but such is life. My mom had been going through a health scare these last few weeks and I was a bit stressed. Fortunately she was finally cleared and has nothing left to be concerned about. I'm very grateful, but my anxiety still seems to be lingering. I can't even bring myself to finish KMHM.

Unkind Women Anyone watching this? I'm not fully caught up but I had a mini marathon of it and I like it much more than I thought I would. I thought it would be depressing but it's not for me. I actually think it's pretty funny. It's dark humor but it's still funny and honestly every time I dread what's going to happen, it never turns out like I expect.

I found out one of my favorite Korean groups is coming to NYC this summer. I really want to go but I feel ridiculous going to a concert by myself. Decisions decisions.

I want to try Angry Mom but I can't figure out where to watch it (drama cool has to many ad things and makes my computer freak out).

Oh no! So sorry to hear about your mom but glad she's ok!

Will post more in a moment (maybe time permitting- at the moment there are only two comments but by the time i post this there will probably be a gazillion :D) but yes! I'm watching Unkind Women and though I can't quite figure out the relationship between Mo Ran and the Grandmother it's good (the show). Everything is as you said, more fun and cuter than I expected. I only wish I felt more chemistry between SJR and Ma Ri rather than Ma and the reporter, but maybe that will come after I watch ep. 8 that I will be convinced.
And I'm looking for subbed Angry Mom too (I gave in and read the caps but I'm still trying to avoid ep.2 recap but by the end of the day I'm sure my resolve will weaken...) So please if anyone knows?

Not really as excited about any particular shows lately (my love for SOGC cooled some but I am still devoted). Surprisingly, Blood is my first watch. In the beginning I rolled my eyes and laughed at the painful earnestness of it all but a couple eps. Back I found myself investing. And now I'm here so got to go! Have a wonderful day my fellow Beanies and 4D!

Oh we're watching the same shows! I'm watching but a bit behind in Blood and SOGC. Blood I can't say is good but it's definitely less bad. And I really was enjoying SOGC but I have to be in the right mood to watch so I got behind. Blood is a bit mindless for me do I can watch at almost any time.

Thanks for the kind thoughts on my mom.

As for Unkind Women, I think the grandma and the second are so interesting. There's definitely a lot going in that isn't explained but mostly I just like all these interactions between women. It's so satisfying. I agree on the chemistry point but in only on episude six and ivthinknits more just a lack in number of interactions.

"Blood I can’t say is good but it’s definitely less bad. And I really was enjoying SOGC but I have to be in the right mood to watch so I got behind. Blood is a bit mindless for me do I can watch at almost any time"

True. That might be one of the reasons I'm enjoying it, because of the lack of pressure to come up with my own theories (which I admit are usually wrong, and unnecessarily complicated. Or maybe it's the bio that got me:

A vampire surgeon's life is at stake when he meets a beautiful woman. (LOL! Not sure what that leads me to think about all the other women he's met.)
Ji Sang discovers a slow-burning desire that could put his whole world at stake. ( I am curious to know if that pun was intended) Could there be more than hunger coursing through his veins- perhaps love? I just can't help but laugh at some of these descriptions... it's part of the fun for me.

Unkind Women-You're right about the relationship between SJR and Ma Ri. I'm sure i'll feel it when I see them interact together more...

Wow those descriptions for blood are especially cheesy...and I also I feel like they're not really accurate. But this show has become a bit more fun to watch which is good...I never really thought it would be a great show but I was hoping it would turn into a fun show.

0

Entirely agree, my friend!

0

Dear yimmi,
I missed posting with you. I am following Blood now - it's my post Healer drama. I am especially keen to see how the OTPs are gonna develop their romance. Its already 60% into the series and I totally agree with you - I don't see anyone falling in love or burning with desire ...

All I could see was Dr Park (Ahn Jae Hyun) craving for real blood. Anyway I like the show for its premise on virus-mutant-vampire plot. Surprisingly, I find Rita (Gu Hye Sun) convincing in vulnerable and emotional portrayals. Have fun watching!

I'm waiting to watch Angry Mom, none of the sites I tried have it subbed yet/last I checked. I usually try at Dramacool/ Drmafire or MyAsianTV or Viki. You can use Adblock and avoid all those annoying ads.

I'm enjoying Unkind Women a lot too. Especially Halmoni and the Sorry-not-Sorry shade she is throwing towards the "Second". It's so hilarious to watch! Of course, there is a lot more to the story. Can't wait to find out more

I really hate how ignorant the Mother can be. I mean, I know that's kind of the point because she didn't finish school. But c'mon!!!!! How embarrassing is she with the groveling at her daughter's job. On the other hand, can't wait for her to take down that evil Teacher of her. Who the hell does she think she is?

I'm torn on which guy to ship. They've both been 2nd leads for so long, I want them both to get the girl but we know that's not gonna happen.

Fun watch all around

Required fields are marked *

Yeah it's definitely a battle of the second leads. I'm pretty sure it was stayed who was first but I'd honestly be ok with either. I like it when multiple guys are actually decent.

Oh mom. I think the teacher was somewhat right when she accused her of always claiming victim and blaming others - not that she started that way but I think she's losing some good things in her life that I think she could hold on to.

The teacher though is evil incarnate. Seriously, I get anxiety every time she's on screen. There's just nothing good about her. And I don't just want to see one final comeuppance, I want a slow and torturous decent for her. I guess that makes me an unkind woman too?

I do like the backstories and know there is a lot more to come so I'm excited (although they really don't need to rehash some of the flashbacks).

If there's no one else to go with to the concert and you are confident at concerts on your own then go by yourself. I went to Big Bang by myself and it was amazing. None of my fangirl friends were able to come with me, so the other option would have been to go with non-fangirl friends and I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much because then I would have been worried they weren't enjoying it and were judging me for my fangirling. It also meant I didn't have to worry about anyone else in the crowd, which was pretty intense. If you do decide to go, the have fun!

Required fields are marked *

My main thing is that I'm not that confident about going on my own. They haven't posted the venue yet so I guess that will influence my decision (like is it all seated or is there a standing section in he front, etc). I've only ever gone with friends which feel enhances the experience. I doubt the tickets will be cheap so I can't see a non-fan going. But...I also may not care? I think part of it is that I'm older than I feel like the audience will be (I'm imagining mostly teens..but maybe I'm wrong on that too). Ah. I don't know. I'm also not sure how to be notified for when the tickets actually go on sale. My eyes kind of suck and have this sort of night blindness so if I'm not close to a stage (any stage: concert, plays, etc) with lights on the stage but the rest of the place dark....my eyes make the lights sort of fan out and blur everything. So I'd only go if I can get tickets to a good spot. Ugh. I feel so indecisive. But I also feel like it could be a once in a lifetime experience? I know New York is usually where they go if Korean group go on a US tour but still, even the popular group will come maybe once every 3-5 years.

But whoa on Big Bang! I'd love to see them too.

I don't go to concerts on my own because I am not a modern music person at all, although I'll go to a classical concert or opera alone. If I can't interest anyone else in joining me I'll go to a movie or see a play on my own.

Dining alone was my final frontier, but then an opportunity too good to pass up presented itself. A few years back my husband got a job with a good bit of travel to Europe and I decided to go along when I could, even though he works all day and a good many of the evenings. It felt strange at first, especially walking into restaurants alone in the evening but I had a deal with myself -- if I am in [insert name of great city] I am not going to do room service). I am not especially outgoing, but I have had wonderful service and lovely conversations with fellow diners. I got a great tip from a Parisian-based writer who advised both making a reservation and never reading a book at they table. Be interested in the place and the food. Awkward at first, for me anyway, but it ended up being great. The only rude treatment I ever got in Paris was from a bartender while I was waiting for my husband to join me after work -- and he was an American.

The other bonus to doing things solo has been getting to see so many of the things I want to see and stay as long as I want without worrying about boring a fellow traveler, or about being dragged along to someplace I don't want to go (not a shopper). Now, when I have to travel somewhere myself for research or a conference, I try to work in an extra day or so, to see the sites and try the food. I wish I'd done it years ago, back when I was traveling on business myself, and just stayed in and ordered room service.

Long story short (ok not so short) - if you feel safe in the venue, go and have fun!

Required fields are marked *

I liked your long story! I'm actually mostly ok with doing things on my own - I think living in a big city long enough will lead to that. I've gone to restaurants and plays and movies on my own. I'm not quite sure why I'm finding concerts so intimidating.

Angry Mom just got licensed on Viki a few hours ago :)
Regions are Americas, Europe (+ Russia), Middle East, Oceania and QCs.

The Channel Manager sent a message that subs will probably take a while since the team is really small and most of them are working on Fri-Sat shows as well.

But there will be subs and that's the most important thing to me right now :D

BLOOD- I still find Ji Sung to be too one note but I'm watching it, and I think the plot has become more interesting. I don't full the acting too much. For me, I think the directing and writing in the beginning were more to blame but those are just my thoughts and since I haven't given it Much thought my thoughts are questionable.:p In other words, I like it.

hehehe Ji sung! xD
Yeah I like Blood's plot too. It's a bit cliche especially in the latest ep (dad's dying; manages to walk his to the altar only to collapse :P) but still I do enjoy the drama a lot more than I thought I would. It's an easy watch I guess. Also I liked Ri-ta's eventual acceptance of Ji-sang's vampy side! It took a few episodes for her to completely find out everything and accept it. I think it was great that he didn't tell her that he was the oppa back in the forest; it came to use instead when she fell sick. xD I'm curious about the poster though. There were two Ji-sang's in that- one in white clothes and one in black. Does that mean Ji-sang's gonna have an evil side or something caused by being a vampire?
Oh I love that there's no Love triangle/quadrangle. :D

@Meow
Yes, yes! To all you said! In the beginning I cringed a little, I'm not going to lie, at the cheesieness of it all at times, but it grew on me and now it's just fun to watch. I was glad they didn't drag out the revelation of his true character for long and Ri Ta figured it out so quickly, and because of her experience as a child she was able to accept it so easily (so cute when he was correcting her version of their forest encounter), that was all plus for me. The poster, I'm not sure. Is that (the black clothed Ji Sang) just representative of his desire to lick the blood off his surgical instruments or if it means a real struggle against himself is coming, or possibly because they just thought it was a cool concept for a poster I'm curious to know also... :)

Total hours dedicated to watching K-dramas this week : 1 (ep 10 or 11 of SKKS).
Real life has kept me busy and as did ‘The importance of being earnest’. Lovely, lovely book!
Coming to the upcoming dramas, will the dream castings stay just that: a dream? Still, I am glad about the cast of ‘Producers’ and keeping my fingers crossed for the Han Groo – Lee Jun Ki pairing.

I just finished the first two episodes of Punch and I can't remember the last time a show so completely grabbed me almost from the git-go. Oh how I hope it stays as tense and edgy and riveting as it goes along.

I continue to enjoy Maids. The story moves along and it's all pretty to look at, even though the male lead is a handsome block of wood, and the evil young wife is as dumb as a rock (the way she's written, not the way she's acted). But this is something I often think of evil female second leads. There are drinking games waiting to be played with each new episode -- a shot each and every time she finds a way to put her new husband in close proximity to her rival.

Also mildly enjoying, but very intermittently because of time constraints, Family is Coming.

Hi there Q ... yes it IS.

All this Spring Forward Fall Back business is so redundant imho, although the PRO brigade say it helps to save energy by giving more daylight hours and promotes safer commutes to school and work bla bla bla. Plus, in the UK we have different time zones even to the rest of Europe anyway so we are always one step behind ha ha.

Required fields are marked *

Hello Cass! How does adding (subtracting?) an hour from the clock promote safer school commute? And the specific clock time has nothing to do with extended daylight hours after all. The PRO reasoning sounds rather dodgy and grasping at straws if you ask me.

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

Ha ha. I know!

The safer argument really comes when the clocks go back in the late Autumn. Hence kids can go to school and back when its still daylight (the average UK school ends at 4pm).

It all harks back to the early 1900s in the UK. Its been chopped and changed and used by various and successive Governments for decades and for various reasons. We just go along with it.

Turns out I feel some loss interest on watching some drama

But I found myself in tons of KMHM fanvid and fanart
The se-gi story in talking cupboard and unstoppable sun if i am not wrong

I pick up loss ep in HJM to have better understanding as whole series
It really better to marathon and get over some things that bug my head or my feeling

But I actually more impress by I can See Your Voice, did anyone watch that??
All the singer is great
I am in love with chi yeol.... please next ep to come fastee

I mean variety show i can see you voice in mnet
It's new and every ep they try to guess who is skilled singer and tune deaf by thei talking voice and etc
At ends, if the singer choose the skilled singer, they will get song to promoted but if they picked the tone deaf-that person will get 500.000 won i think

What i like is all 7 participants sings and they all great as skill singer

And I did watched I hear your voice and being fans if bad guy since he is good at being bad and still in love with LBY

I'm sorry, that was my fault, I misread that title!

The variety show with the singers you're talking about sounds interesting.

Who exactly is choosing between the skilled singers and the tone - deaf singers? A panel of judges, the audience, or someone else?

The final word is by a singer that invited each episode as their duet partner later, ep 1 is kim bum soo, ep2 us lena park

But they also have panel like 6 people to help the singer make decision
I like it simply because the skilled singer is great, even if they are not win, they have air time in singing, so i hope they can get closure on what their skill
At least that celebrity and singer there knew their potential

It only 2 ep and i hope you like it ^^

Morning All!! Another Friday!! The weeks are slipping by into what looks like could be quite a nice Spring season.

I’ve made a big decision to try and get back to paid employment. As its been nearly 20 years since I last worked outside the house I am feeling both excited and nervous about the prospect, but I dusted off my CV, updated it and sent it off to see what would happen. There is one particular job that I would give my eye-teeth to get, so I am keeping everything crossed that I at least get an interview.

On the drama front I am only really watching Persevere Goo Hae Ra. Ive been shouted down way too much for my stance on SeJong and the whole love-triangle thing, so I'll say no more on that except that he had me at Hello, and I will be TeamSeJong to the end!! Saying that, and with the end in sight now I do hope the Writer decides to give us a proper resolution, NOT just in the last 5 minutes of the last episode and NOT another cop-out open ending.

I am still half heartedly keeping up with Rosy Lovers at the weekend, but the emphasis on all the skullduggery and treachery by the Elders has taken so much light off the actual Lovers of the title, that its all I can do now to keep my interest going for the last 6 episodes or so, barring any extensions that is ... UGH.

Apart from that, I am reading Hogu's Love recaps and although I have started Heard it as A Rumour, I am also about a week or so behind on episodes.

To fill in the gaps I have been watching mainly Chinese dramas. Most recently (You Are) My Sunshine with Wallace Chung and Tiffany Tang. It’s a rather complicated love story spanning about 10 years or so, adapted from the novel Silent Separation by Gu Man.
I really loved it and can highly recommend it, but it does drag rather in the middle and several gaping plot holes are never quite realised. That could be because the novel was really popular and the PDs simply assumed the viewer would know the story? Anything with Wallace Chung in it immediately gets a thumbs up from me though, so I just forwarded through the dull and draggy and for once LOVED the ending.

As for the weeks ahead, Im looking forward to The Girl Who Sees Smells, Divorce Lawyer in Love, and Dr Ian.

ooh thats a new one on me. Must do me some internet searching for that!

Have you also seen Wallace in Best Time with Janine Chang? I really LOVED that too - and the best thing of all was that they made 3 endings to satisfy ALL the shippers. There was the ugh 'open' ending from the novel and then two others. I think you'd like it. Oh and Boss and Me/Shan Shan Comes To Eat is another I enjoyed.

I just found Cruel Romance and all I can say is WOW .... Wallace who?? hee hee

Ive found about 10 episodes subbed and almost 30 raw so they must put them out more than once a week? Shall probably wait until all 45 are subbed before starting to watch. Thanks for the heads up.

Oh and how good that Huang Xiaoming is going to play He Yichung in the film version of My Sunshine (though why they couldnt let Wallace do it I dont know? They're pretty much of an age for one thing). I shall watch out for that too

0

I like Huang Xiaoming in this role. Cruel Romance is like an upgraded version of Lady and the Liar. The acting is so much better! But the person who stole my heart is Xie Junhao/Tse Kwan-ho (the guy who plays the elder brother of the, imo, good for nothing in the drama). He is SOOOO cool. I think he's really good-looking for his age too. And the acting. Totally lives up to his reputation. Well, he didn't get the Golden Horse award for nothing!

Manin - I would say watch My Sunshine. Its a lovely love story and its only my drama pet hate of the interfering third wheel, and the unnecessary repeated flashbacks, that got my goat.

K-drama is bit on the back-burning at the moment. Instead I have been watching chinese fare: My Sunshine and Boss & Me. As I liked the difference in style, I read up on the book translations for the respective dramas Silent Separation and Come and Eat Shan Shan plus some others and liked them even more. So if anyone can recommend any other dramas or web novels in that vein - I am game and will spend my weekend on them! It is hayfever season, so it is basically house arrest for me.

Can anyone tell me why people frequently wear their coats indoors in kdramas? It seems like nobody takes off a coat when entering a house. Is this a korean thing or is it just a weird kdrama thing?

0

I wondered that too and I think I figured out that for dramas filmed in winter they dont heat their studios! The reason they keep their coats on is so that they dont freeze to death ha ha.

TG -

While others here may be more knowledgeable than me regarding this matter, I'm going to guess that in absence of a central forced-air heating system, frigid temperatures (especially in winter) require the wearing of coats indoors.

Either that or it's product placement from a fashion house. Heh.

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

Hm, could just be the enviroment. I remember when I worked in China we would wear coats inside during the winter because it was too cold to not do it. It's limited what an aircondition can do for heating at times. And even the radiators didn't keep it warm outside of the classrooms where we used a combination of coats, air con and radiators to make sure it was warmth.

Oh and as mentioned above, not all the sets are actually heated, nor inside a warm building (easier to move things around in a hangar building).

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

I think it's becuase the houses/sets are unheated or not that well heated. I've watched drama scenes where the two actors are having a conversation indoors and it's so cold that you can actually see their breath! And I've read somewhere that indoor heating in Korean winters is not that great, so people do actually keep their coats or lots of layers of sweaters on indoors, so maybe it's a reflection of that.

0

Required fields are marked *

It could be that the PPL wants to show the coat on screen for as long a time as possible. By wearing coats indoors, then viewers may be more willing to purchase a particular style of coat.

Hello

so, Kill Me Heal Me ended, now I don´t know what to watch. Decided that lingering on it and being sad would be ungrateful towards Ji Sung, who worked hard to bring them to life and who had as hard a time as us. we shouldn´t cry about it no longer, so.... the characters are free now, but I wonder what they would be doing in the invisible world...what would Yo Na be doing? and Perry?

Intend to watch Angry Mom - is this the "female superhero" we were eagerly waiting for some time ago? A totally different badass superhero.

And I am seriously willing to do all sorts of circus tricks, if ONLY Ninja Teacher would accept the vampire scholar role! I need to practice though - I have never actually done the cart-wheel before. maybe I should just climb the tree - I have to cut some branches anyway.

I went to the concert of Ewert and the Two Dragons yesterday, it was nearly 3 hours and it was AMAZING. I am not too bold to say, one of the best bands in the whole world. I especially like Stranger, Speechless and Circles from their newest CD. They have improved so much from 2011 when I went to their last concert in the same place, sold out to the last seat and girls crying off their make-up at the door begging to get in.

all for now, need to go to work, ciaou!

My first post in a long long time...
So these are dramas that I'm currently watching:

Super Daddy Yeol: This drama is good so far! I like how real the main actor is, and the daughter-mother duo are just so kickass! Can't wait to see what will happen when the three of them met!

Unkind Women: Not really feeling the chemistry between Lee Hana and the two guys, but hopefully it will change :) By the way, Ji Seo is so hilarious in the latest Happy Together episode. Can't believe he practiced kissing on his own hand lol

Date (Japanese drama): I just want to say thank you to other dramabeans readers who recommended this gem! So funny, so natural, and somehow so heart-wrenching! Can't wait to see the next eps!

And yeah hopefully someone will sub Angry Mom :)

Daaaaaaaaate!!

My gosh, I'm totally squeeing over this drama. Just one episode every week takes away all the stress I had accumulated. Super duper refreshing and welcoming break from constant stream of Kdramas. I just die laughing at the shenanigans and feel gutted when hurtful words are thrown around. Heroine is a splendid mechanical woman with a heart of gold; hero is a loser who nevertheless manages to make me root for him to get the girl.

SPOILERS BELOW!!

I think I'm so used to Kdrama fate stuff that when hero and heroine met each other in their costumes and ended up being kissed by secondary characters, I freaked out that they would not end up together. Was super mad at the secondary characters for doing that. I was like, "It's the New Year!!! These two need to kiss for their fates to be sealed together!" But despite everything, hero and heroine managed to keep getting closer to one another.

And how funny was that scene when heroine was confessed to by second male lead? She was shocked in the most hilarious way possible. I replayed that scene like ten times. Another favorite: heroine listing in the marriage contract the number of times to have sexual intercourse in a week and at what times. LMAO. I love it. I generally love the idea of marriage contracts but this was such a fresh take on it. Usually marriage contracts always outline no physical contact. Nice to see the opposite end of that extreme.

Happy friday guys!

Hope you are all having a good time! I've finally finished exams, if not work. Need to write essay draft. Which of course means I do everything but, as I have no motivation. I need a proper holiday holiday. Unfortunatly with the uni workk I have, easter is gonna be spendt in York, and not going home. *sad*

Finally had a moment to start Ho-Do's love ! I've been keeping an eye on the recaps and though it would be a good place to ease back into drama watching.

It's a cute drama, but I must say that I am a lot more interesting in to relationship surrounding the baby. Not the father issue, but just how everyone is coming together to look after the baby. It feels like the love triangle is taking a second role to Ho-Do's love for the baby which I can get onboard with.

I am liking the fact that the love triangle is the way it is. But I still feel weary for which direction they will take with Kang Chul. By the writing in general I feel like they will gloss it over and give him a kiss wiht the sister and have him realize it's her he actually kissed. Which I don't want them to do, but think they will. Especially with all this first love (also can I shake her? She is upset that he didn't contact her again, when it should be obious that he thinks it's her Brother because a) wearing his clothes, b) not seeing her face at all and c) not knowing he had a sister.

And I understand people's frustration with Ho-Do as well. He is good at misunderstanding and placing his nose where he shouldn't be.

Just like learning to tie your shoelaces
when you were a kid......Impossible to do,
until you learned to do it!

First you need to put a few spaces
between your last words and where
you want the smiley to go.

The you type a (upper case) colon :
Then right next to it, type a closing parenthesis )
The two, close together will give you a :)

If you want a non-smiley face, you type this,
but CLOSE TOGETHER : (
which will give you a :)

Now, go crazy :) :) :) :( :( :(

Yay I'm not alone in havng it that way! Thanks, I really wish I had a holiday.

And not a dumb question at all. The smilies just automatically happen when you put in a smily face as you would anywhere else :)

Kdramas surrounding babies seems to be big this round. HoGu's Love and Heard It Through the Grapevine both tackle babies out of wedlock (at least initially) and the ramifications on many levels. Two very different perspectives and storylines, both good.

Yes there seems to be a lot of babies around in drama land lately. I found a weekend drama that also tackles a single mum.

Not started Heard it through the Grapevine. How is that drama?

Required fields are marked *

Heard It Through The Grapevine is quite different from any other kdrama - it's a comedy, but like they say, it's a black comedy. It took until episode 2 for that tone to really emerge, but this is really unusual in terms of tone - not your average Candy-gets-pregnant drama. (I guess this starts out like the nightmare version of Fated To Love You? lol). Even the people you're supposed to hate, you end up feeling a bit sorry for (while laughing at them of course)

and the cast is excellent, both senior and junior, but especially Yoo Joong-sang and Yoo Ho-jung. We're not used to seeing dramas in which a middle-aged married couple are the centre of things, but they really carry this drama.

(basically, go watch it! Or at least try!)

Haha guess it goes on the list though! I've seen Japanese dramas pull of black comedy but not so much in korean ones.

Hi Manin ~ It is a pretty fun kdrama. I am a Lee Joon fan and man, he is killing the role of favored son who has thrown his high class ill-mannered parents for a loop. He is quite charming, impossible to dislike, and sincere as all get out as In Sang. What a doll. Bom is also sincere and holds her own, which is not a favorable quality (for her) in his family, although it the very thing In Sang was attracted to and he is good with it.

I actually think the love for the baby does take center stage. I think the love in the title applies to the story in so many different ways. I know people get annoyed at Hogu but he's just...pure heart. He's not that bright, but he's happy and he's caring. I really am not that bothered by it. (I'm not saying I don't have plot issues or that I like how they're handling a lot of big issues in this though). But I think the personal interactions are really what make this show, and the slow bond building between all the characters.

And I know there's only like a 5% chance of me liking what they do with Kang Chul, but I still love the character and Im Seulong is doing so well.

My first time commenting in one of these Open Threads.. and it's kind of a long shot but hey! it might work. So lately I've really really been wanting to watch Flowers For my Life. I accidentally stumbled upon dramabeans's recaps and it seems so right up my alley, it's a little scary. Problem is I literally cannot find a single place to watch it. Not one. So if anyone has any recommendations re: places to look for it then I'd be eternally grateful!!!

What's happening to Hong Sisters drama?

Kim Woo Bin has dropped out & no confirmation on the other cast.

Who are going to save this drama?

So he has officialy dropped out? I am so confused about what is happening with this drama as well.

I was so hoping for a Kang Sora/Kim Woo Bin paring.

There were initial reports that he had dropped out, which his agency denied and said they were still considering, only to confirm yesterday that he'd turned it down for sure.

I was hoping for a Kang Sora/Kim Woo-bin pairing too, but I really hope she takes it and that it's good and solidifies her position as a star . Kang Sora's been really screwed over by some of her past dramas before Misaeng, and she's a good enough actress that she deserves leading lady status.

I heard one of the problems being the fact that there is no script. Which makes me understand his hesitation in taking it on. No script makes it quite hard to find out if you can pull off a character. And a tiny abstract doesn't always work and can be misleading

(like my playing one of the characters in my play as a nervouse scardy cat for the try outs. To then realize that the chracter has a lot more lines and interaction where he was very much NOT a scardy cat. It threw me off quite a bit.)

Actually it's weird that the agency would accept and consider the offer for quite long time (almost a month) without script..
I didn't know what happens, but I guess KWB and his agency just politely reject the drama.
Though I'm very sad can't see him on my screen soon!

It's the Hong sisters, they're a huge enough name and potential top starmakers that any actor would definitely consider it for sure. Especially young actors, since the Hongs are pretty much single-handedly responsible for the rise to stardom of so many 20something actors.

I imagine what happened is something like the offer went out and scripts for the first eps was promised by a certain date for the actor/agency to look at, but then the writers didn't make that deadline and there was some waffling over how much longer to wait for a script.

I really hope KWB's replacement is good.

0

I agree with Pogo. The Hong sisters are huge names, and when they do good, they do awesome. But even with star writers not knowing what you are actually commiting to can creat insecurities. Especially if you are promiced a script by a deadline, and not getting it, or there being any problems with it.

We also don't know how much matterial KWB actually have. It could be that they have more information and him not liking the role, or his agency not liking the role for him.

0

I can very well understand his backing off, if that is true. he can't blindly go into it, given that it is almost a 3 month commitment.

Maybe I missed something, but how come
there's been NO MENTION of Lee Min-ho's
noir film "Gangnam Blues/1970" here?

The last mention of this project here was
in October, 2014, concerning the big battle
in the mud. Since then - no review, nothing.

OK, we all know that there's no US theater
showing this film, but the film was premiered
in January, 2015, in Korea, and our two
favorite bean people have major connections,
with the Korean powers that be, so.....what's up?

Is the film a disaster? Is the ending for LMH
what I think it is, and nobody wants to (you
should pardon my pun) "spill the beans?"

Any comments about this situation would be
greatly appreciated by me, and I think, a few
million others. :)

To my knowledge, neither JB nor GF does movie reviews. Most/All movie reviews are done by some other-guest posters and they usually just choose whatever they want to review, not necessarily those that are new.

For most movies, JB and GF usually just cover up to the final casting or the previews, if there are some interesting ones.

(Also, it is news to me that they are connected to the K-Ent powers that be...)

They don’t usually review movies or post updates about released ones. A while back, someone was randomly reviewing movies but I haven’t seen those posts in over a year. weird week for I didn't feel like watching any drama,I've only watched episode 18 of HJM which was so good.
I Have been in variety mode this week,it started off when I read a comment in one of the recaps about Happy together, shinhwa episode and since then I'm addicted, everything I can find on YouTube about them I watch, they are so funny and their bromance is epic.strangely enough I've never listened to their music. This led me to Strong heart which is daebak especially the first episode, I didn't know that I could laugh so hard aside from running man. I now see how Lee seung Ji and Yoona started out, cute.
Anyone heard of IUV please look for them on YouTube hilarious that cinderella song had me flatlining and I can't stop singing oppa ulzzang.
Dramas, how is Rosy Lovers, is it good?how about my heart twinkle twinkle. I also want to check out unkind women. After healer except for Punch I've not been able to watch anything till the end.

Ho-gu's Love- I was so much happier with this weeks episodes now that I don't want to kill Ho-gu anymore.

Unkind Women- I love this drama so much. I have not seen 8 yet. If a psychotic murderer does not show up out of nowhere making no real sense to the story soon to kill that useless waste of space and oxygen masquerading as both a human and a teacher I might have to drop it regardless of my love.

Superdaddy Yeol- I love it, I just wish I could speak Korean so I could help the viki team speed up a bit. Alas I cannot so I'll just wait patiently.

There's quite a few dramas coming this year I'm excited about.

The Hong sisters drama whatever it's called now I'm disappointed Kim Woo-bin turned it down but I'll be happy if Kang So-ra accepts no matter who her leading man is. Honestly I'll probably give it a shot no matter who the cast ends up being.

Producer- That writer that cast how can you go wrong? Do me a favor dramaland don't answer that question.

School 2015- How could you not be excited, I just hope it lives up to it's predecessor.

The Lover- It sounds different than anything I've seen in any form of Korean media, that intrigues me.

My Unfortunate Boyfriend- I'm probably most excited about this Yang Jin-sung made me a lifelong fan with Bride of the Century and I'm looking forward to seeing her again. Granted I'm decidedly less happy about No Min-woo acting again but Lee Hong-ki learned how to act maybe he can too, preferably before the drama starts.

I'd say I'm hesitantly excited about Answer Me 1988 and Hwajung. I'm hesitant of Answer me 1988 because I turned 3 in 1988 so I'm not sure what if any commonality I'll be able to find. As for Hwajung it's a saeguk and the only two saeguk's of any kind I've finished are Hong Gil Dong and Joseon X-Files. Thant being said I do love Cha Seung-won, Lee Sung-min and as of Miss Korea Lee Yeon-hee.

So what about my fellow beanies are you looking forward to any of the upcoming dramas I mentioned, or others? Something else altogether let's start a discussion.

of the dramas you mentioned, I'm looking forward to the Hong sisters one - it's their first one since 2010 to have 20something leads (based on the offers that went out anyway) and I really want to see Kang Sora finally make it as the leading lady of a successful mainstream project. I just hope they find a leading man who'll have the right chemistry with her.

I was looking forward to School 2015 until the news that it's being produced by an idol agency notorious for stuffing dramas with its mediocre-to-godawful idol actors. That killed even my excitement over the fact that one of my favourite young actresses had been offered the female lead role, for all we know she might get sidelined now.

And right now, the drama I'm looking forward to most is Let's Eat 2, which I was hating a couple of months ago for the cast shakeup. But I really want to see the new cast, and Yoon Doo-joon again.

Unkind Women - I cannot stand that teacher!!! She's the only pure evil one-dimensional character in this. She's like everything I hate in people. I know they've hinted that she has a reason for doing it...but I don't think anything can redeem her. She's spiteful in her every action. It's not just one or two things, it's her whole view of education and people. I can't wait for the mom to take her down...hopefully with the help of the teacher's "family" who clearly can't stand her either.

I am SO pumped for Producer!!! I'm a little worried that I'm going to hype myself up to much and then nothing will be able to live up to my expectations but....!!!!

Thanks, folks, for your comments about movie
reviews, or lack thereof, here. I know that
this web site concerns 99% Korean TV shows,
but I thought that because Lee Min-ho's lead
up to this film had already been mentioned,
that there would be some comment here after
the movie premiered.

I don't have any hard facts, but there has to
SOME WAY that our fearless leader gets the
latest-breaking Kdrama news for posting here.
Broadcast executives in Korea must know about
this site, and how many people count on finding

I knew the glut of recent lead role casting offers that we liked so much was too good to actually come true and all get accepted - Kim Woo-bin and Kang Sora for the Hong sisters, Han Groo and Lee Jun-ki for Vamp Scholar, Lee Yubi for School 2015, Lee Jin-wook and Jang Nara for Hello Monster :/

Now we've got no Kim Woo-bin for the Hong sisters, no Lee Jin-wook for Hello Monster, and the high likelihood that the idol agency producing School 2015 will just stuff the show full of useless idols and sideline Lee Yubi as a second lead or something. UUUUUUGGGGGHHHHH!

at least I have Heard It Through The Grapevine to console me. That drama is just unholy levels of good, I have to respect any drama that makes people like In-sang's parents its central protagonists. I love that Yoo Joon-sang and Yoo Ho-jung go all-out into it, and their cracking facade of attempted calm and polish contrasts so nicely to the earnestness of Lee Joon and Go Ah-sung.

I'm especially loving this week's turn of events, where the senior couple reluctantly acknowledge Bom but are still horrified that she could (shock, horror) be smarter than their perfectly-raised and expensively-educated son, while said son doesn't give two hoots lol. They're so obsessed with the appearance of things, it's hilarious.

*mild spooilers* Heard it Through the Grapevine does the importance of appearances so right (I mean, it is so wrong, but it portrayed so perfectly). I love that In Sang is so happy with how Bom blows his parents away with her ability to discuss economics with the father. Take that. But I see a possible crash and burn if things turn in a way that makes Bom feel used (to make that point) instead of being a genuine opportunity for educational advancement. I am not sure about the tutor, either... I don't want to see her parents insulted any more, and I hope Bom doesn't get confused about who her parents are (and who she is).

Lee Joon all the way!!

Required fields are marked *

Exactly, by the end of the episode his parents are already clutching their pearls over the prospect that she might achieve more than In-sang. There's a grain of genuine respect for her there, I feel, but they still see her as a potential tool.

And now recognising that she's a diamond in the rough basically means they are trying to distance her from her parents and remove all influence of the 'commoner' background from her and from the baby.

I love Bom, she's so different from your usual kdrama 'average girl' Candy. I love how she handles being thrust into this very strange and unfamiliar world (seriously, she literally just went to say hello to In-sang's parents and tell them about her pregnancy and has been all but a prisoner in that stiflingly traditional house since), she isn't rebellious or defiant but stands up for herself. I love how Go Ah-sung communicates that air of gentleness and resilience at the same time. And her reactions to In-sang's dad's lecture on poor people is quite illuminating, it's obvious she doesn't agree with him and doesn't think her parents are lesser for being poor, but she did take it to heart.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if the in-laws fall in love with Bom. The actors are doing a great job and the older generation definitely embodies their characters well. I tune in to see the parents deal with each other, teenage parents navigate parenthood, and the servants and assitants who support the kids and manipulate behind the scenes respectively.

I love how every set of characters has their own thing going on but it's all woven together so deftly. And the drama's quite unconventional in the way it avoids making anyone a clear hero in this situation - the story centres on In-sang's parents but they're rather terrible people, the two kids are nice kids but they're weak against the parents, the servants are sympathetic but have divided loyalties, even Bom's parents are honourable but pragmatic enough to actually consider the money offer if it hadn't been made so insultingly.

Hello all,
hope all is well. I spent most of the week in a hotel thanks to flooded basement. Not something I relished, but am home now.

Dramas:

Unkind Women: still liking it a lot although episode 7 infuriated me with all those close calls. I hate when dramas do that. I will just chock all that up to destiny getting in the way for the nonce. I'm wondering how returned formerly dead adulterer will behave. Will he love his wife or the other woman? I like this drama's relative unpredictability and am not sure who/how some of the extraneous characters are. What's with the young kid who likes Ma Ri? What's with theiving sycophant? Why is she so hateful and mean-spirited toward a family that has taken her in?

Shine: Wow, this drama is finally getting exciting! I've always iked it but wading through the cross-dressing was hard. Now we're beginning to see the pay off. Am in love with tragic prince. I'll admit that now.

Twinkle, Twinkle: Dang! Ish has hit the fan and I wonder if psycho short-fused semi-murderous hubby is gonna hate his wife with the same intensity that he loved her? Her baby is still holding on...for dear life. So when she eventually hooks up with Assistant Goo (yes, am hoping) will Assistant Goo end up being the owner of Monachus? I think ahead, can't help it.

Grapevine: What's wrong with thgose parents? Has that woman nothing to think about? Just when all is going well she finds something else to worry about...and to scheme cruelly about. Can't they just accept that whatever good happens with their daughter-in-law is good for their son as well? I so hope the lawsuit blows up in their faces and they see how horrible they are! What a sense of entitlement and elitism!

Hogu's Love: Am so glad I stopped watching this earlier...listened to my gut and knew there'd bebaby giving up issues.. So spared myself some stress. Reading the recaps though.

Waiting for Angry Mom to be subbed...as well as SuperDaddy.

Have a great weekend, all

Hi there :P

Generally, i think it's an interesting mix of unpredictable plotting, organic plotting and predictable kdrama tropes. The writer either doesn;t know what to do with the middle sister yet or is subtly laying groundwork for some future issue with the money and/or the hotel chaebol.

One of the themes seems to be about wealth and earning wealth. Right now it feels a bit like the James Dean giant where the working poor are honorable, the old money folks are honorable (for the most part) but the greedy desperate types like Aunt and the Woontak clan are dishonorable because they would do anything. The writer does allow that some rich people -- like Mart dad-- can be bad.

There's an odd feminism to it as well. Women starting businesses have to depend on men even if they are trying to be strong, and again good hardworking poor folk are the salt of the earth. So the women are strong-willed, but men are also by their side to help them. Also women taken care of by men and used by them then thrown away. Everyone in the story has his/her foil so that helps figure the story out because we can see how Woon Tak could transform into Mart Dad if he wasn't so focused on murder.

The biggest theme so far is complicated conflicted loyalties and emotions. Some folks are loyal only to themselves, some pretend to be loyal to others (for good reasons or for bad.) Some cannot pretend. I was totally surprised when heroine left her husband. I had expected duplicity and moral treacher. But neither she nor her doengsang have it in them to be hypocritical. Heroine is very pure. Se hates and loves purely. Chaebol franchise owner SIS is also pretty pure in her evil. She isn't capable of hiding her plans either. And she's stupid as well. Assistant Goo and "Overeating Sister" are the ones who are very fluid in an evil world. They learn how to deal with it. Construction worker Oppa and Mart Chaebol heir are the ones who are fluid in a monetary world... They are trying to deal with the cruel entitlement and coldness that wealth brings.

And psycho hubby is under no one's control. Only love had controlled him but now ..nothing holds him back from the power of money or from his own disposition. Not sure if he is capable of growing.

Carole, thanks so much for your very interesting reply. Middle sister will be written out of the story - poor Lee Tae Im, I feel so sorry for her.

As for psycho hubby, I guess we'll never know whether the writer originally intended to redeem him, as there are now only 7 episodes left, no room for him to grow. :(

Up to date on:

I Heard It through the Grapevine:

Squee. Hat's off to screenwriter Jung Sung Joo. Go Ah Sung as Seo Bom, what a delight she is.

Ho Gu's Love: I want to give Do Hee a hug too. When she's laying down with the handkerchief on her eyes, **sob**

Unkind Women: Interesting.

J drama: Kageri Yuki Natsu: our intrepid reporter knows that something about the official version of events stinks.

J mini drama/movie: 2 parts Oriento Kyuko Satsujin Jiken or, a Japanese take on Murder On The Orient Express. Still have 2nd episode to watch.

A bit strange seeing a J version of Poirot. Lots of actors and actresses for J drama fans, (including Hiroshi Tamaki, Chiaki-senpai!). The set and costuming are nice.

He said something like:
'Hi, This is JiSung. Today we are having farewell party after finishing KMHM. Now I'd like to say hi to everyone. Thanks for sendng all cheers and love to KMHM. Thanks to that, I was able to film happily and was able to completely absolved in the show and create 7 personalities, and film to the end with strength. Hm. I think (KMHM) is going to be worthwhile and meaninful work in my life. And in one sense, I wonder if this is another beginning in my acting life. I hope ??? family to watch my future course and I make you joyful and happy, and would like to maintain the relationship of smiling and sharing sorrow together. I don't know when I am going to work on my next piece, but since this is the day to send off the KMHM, I will just finish the farewell party well, and will stand by you again. Please be healthy and happy. And thank you all this time. KMHM with all of you fighting!'

thank you!

It figures it was something like that, but if you can´t tell for sure, then...

I guess he means fans keep being as open and respond to the emotions on the screen as fervently as in KMHM. I hope so.

there was a true emotional level communication between this drama and its fans.

After Heart to Heart and Kill Me, Heal Me for some reason I have gotten into this drama slump and can't seem to find a current drama that is catching my attention. I've been trying to watching Hogu's Love and the just started Angry Mom but can't seem to get into them too much. I ended up marathoning Bad Guys and I hope they do another season of that drama coz that was the first time I have seen a pure action/suspense /mystery kdrama that was really good. At least Producer is just around the corner and that one is a "must watch" kind of drama.

Finally completed marathoning Love Rain. Positives: 1) One less drama on my to watch list. 2) Jang Geun-Suk :) 3) I was surprised & glad they didn't skimp out with a few of the kissing scenes.

Overall Impressions: 1) Many of the episodes were boring...simply tedious to get through. 2) Strong case/argument to be made that is probably should have been a 16 episode drama instead of 20. 3) Acting wise Yoona was very green - the weakest link. 4) The writing was weak in some areas. 4) OST's didn't really pique my interest or capture my attention to the point where I even gave them a second (2nd) thought. 5) I understand what LR was trying to do. Sometimes it succeeded and then at other times it didn't.

Blast from the Past: Mary Stayed Out All Night. Two for one: Jang Geun-Suk & Kim Rae Wook. Started it because I missed looking at Jang Geun-Suk's glorious mane of hair and his various hairstyles on-screen.

Last year I was in the mood for Lee Dong-Wook's dramas Blade/Iron Man, Hotel King, Mandate of Heaven, & Scent of a Woman.

Currently Watching: Shine or Go Crazy, Heard It Through the Grapevine (love it :) ), Ho-Gu's Love, Bluebird's House

Made It This Far, Might As Well Finish It: Hyde Jekyll, Me (only 2 left), My Heart Twinkle Twinkle (reduced from 50 to 26 episodes), Perservere Gu Hae-Ra (only 2 left)

Curious About & Would Like to Check-out: Angry Mom, Date, Maids, Superdaddy Yeol, Unkind Women

Dropped: Blood

I love him. I miss him. That show really was a great 2-for-1....although I only made it halfway. I really should go back to it. I didn't think there was anything wrong with it, but I also admit that most I was there for the eye candy. My friend and I used to argue over the two leads...different choices naturally.

Go to this site:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/569812/problem-with-google-chrome/

Scroll down about halfway until you see the 1st post by MarkMCS. He explains the problem and the fix. He's got a good screenshot, too. If you can't follow his instructions let me know and I'll break it down further.

This is the 1st thing to try. It should work -- has for me. Let me know what happens. If it doesn't work, there are other things we can try.

0

PS -- Don't try any of the other methods mentioned at that site until you try this. The method mentioned by MarkMCS fixes the problem the majority of the time.

0

Thanks for the link revlow. The tips suggested by MarkMCS, I've tried them for weeks now. Yet, I still experience adobe shockwave crashes.

Just realized it may not be clear when he says:

Go to the address bar at the top and type and hit return.

All you are supposed to put in the browser address bar is about:plugins not the carrots. But wait to do this until you walk through the prior steps.

0

Oh lord... WordPress removed some of what I typed in because it mistook it as code and removed part of the quote. I don't know if this will work but I'll try:

"Go to the address bar at the top and type < about:plugins > and hit return."

If what I put above looks like gibberish, just remember that you should only put about:plugins

0

Oh, darn. Just read your reply -- please excuse my comments after that. Have you tried the other suggestions? There are additional ones I've come across, too. I'll see if I can find them.

0

Additional things to try:

Check for Conflicts
Type chrome://conflicts in address bar and hit enter. Will tell you if any software on your system is known to conflict with Google Chrome.

Check for Malware
I recommend the steps here:
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/13616
Even if it doesn't catch any malware, the scans clean up your computer and can make it run better.

In addition the the tools at the above site, I run
Junkware Removal Tool
http://thisisudax.org

Run Chrome's Software removal tool.
https://www.google.com/chrome/srt/
Made by Google. This application will scan and remove software that may cause problems with Chrome. Even if the tool doesn’t find any bad stuff on your computer, it’s going to trigger a reset of all your Chrome settings, which can sometimes solve problems. You don’t have to reset your settings if you don’t want to, but it’s an option. If you do you are going to have to reset your preferences, so you may want to hold off until you try the rest.

The other option of course is to switch browsers. After Chrome I like Opera. Adblock (in combo with Ghostery blocking DoubleClick) still works with it at Viki. Adblock no longer works with Firefox there.

I hope something helps August. Please let me know what happens.

I'll keep you posted revlow.

Love Rain kissing scene end of ep 9 pick up 10 - fountains.
I really loved Dr Oh. The parents' story was a time drag and the parental overlap with the lead couple, kind of yuck. But I did like the lead couple's storyline, and there were plenty of cute moments in Japan. JGS will always be one of my favorites, even though some of his dramas aren't great.

I'm on episode 12. I definitely was surprised with how many dark subject they tackled andd it was refresing to have a show at least mention some of the se taboo topics. But I haven't always liked the way they've been portrayed or dealt with. This show is so unique in so many ways - very hard to succinctly describe my thoughts about it.

The performances are wonderful. The lead is 15 and she (Jin Ji Hee) holds her own with older actors. Stephanie Lee is hilarious as Choi Sung Yoon.

I agree that the way some of the taboo topics were handled was incomplete or unrealistic. My experience has been that incomplete and unrealistic always happens when you are opening a door. All of the focus is on the door, what happens after is often kind of an afterthought.

I would like to read the book it was based on. If it were ever to be translated into English. My Korean is invisible.

Hey Beanies. So deadly tired....jumping back to the workforce after a long hiatus can be tiring and difficult. And it leaves almost no time for dramas. Which is too bad because after reading good stuff about Angry Mom and Superdaddy Yeol, I want to watch them. Looks like these days the new it thing in dramaland is family. Which is a nice break from geniuses and supernatural beings and time travel and psychiatry. Great to have normal stuff once in a while.

So far only still watching Date. I can't heap enough praise on this. Love all the characters to bits but especially the hero and heroine. Did anyone else get excited when heroine leaned over hero and pinned him down to get answers? I just love that kind of non-chemistry chemistry. Meaning, there's no romantic/sexual intent behind any of the action but the chemistry is still sizzling there. Love it.

Thanks for all the recommendations, especially regarding Date. I think that will be my next show. I'm still(!) watching Punch, so avoided the spoilers earlier. (Thank you for the warnings!) I have been a little slow on the shows due to Real Life getting in the way.

This weeks' RL drama involved a broken washing machine, piles of dirty laundry and no car in a big city. And to add insult to injury, the NCAA finals (college basketball for those of you not in the US) are in town with my childhood hometown team playing in one of the games; but my ticket money was spent on washing machine parts, car rental and coin-operated laundromats. I may have to drown my sorrows in a little Kdrama and wine, though not necessarily in that order. Still, the opportunity to whine (and wine) is golden!

Hey everybody...happy OT!!! :)

It's been quite a long time since I've been able to post on OT, much less read recaps on DB...thanks to school. This semester has been quite the workload, with papers every week...so, you can imagine, that left no room for my kdrama fix at all :( I think it's the first time since the beginning of my dramawatching days that I haven't been able to keep up with a drama -- and that quite many years ago! -.-

I've built upon the already immense backload of dramas that I was in the process of watching/wanting to watch. This week was my spring break, but it sure hadn't felt like it...been working on yet another paper! I love to write, but not this much :/

Unkind Women:
This was the very first drama I watched in like forever (ok, nearly eight weeks). I'd been anticipating the drama just from the cast and premise alone...and it has not disappointed. I marathoned ep1-7 just in the past 3 days, and I'm hooked. I like that the family of women all have their flaws, which makes them intriguing and anticipating what further eps will bring.

I'm especially drawn to Hyun-sook, who've they've focused on the majority of the eps...because of her scars. Good gosh, I absolutely hate "teacher of the smart ones" Na Mal-nyun (whose name I thought was a curse word at first, haha)...I had to rewatch earlier eps because I just could not understand why this broad had such an agenda against Hyun-sook, ultimately getting her expelled. Although eps 6 & 7 have shed more light on it, it's still not very clear to me why she just hated her, seemingly for no reason. Was it because PE teacher was on her side? And it just seemed so set up too damn conveniently how that fellow classmate sold her the stolen scarf...me thinks Teacher Na had her claws in that one.

Teacher Na's treatment of Hyun-sook reminded me of the absolute worst teacher I've had in my life, back in elementary school. She was my second grade teacher and she was the biggest bitch I'd ever met in a school setting. She bullied all the minority kids in the class (5 of us) for no apparent reason, but my guess is that it was because she was a bigot. It wasn't like she was an old woman -- she was probably early 30s tops. I just remember her yelling all the freakin' time at us, grading us down and keeping us from recess almost daily. I was still learning English then, so a lot of the time I didn't fully comprehend just why she was such a bitch. It was something I'd never faced before (or since)...but if I had been older, I would have definitely sent in a complaint. My parents have credited her in altering my personality, because I was such an outgoing bubbly kid until I had her for a teacher -- now I'm the quiet shy one. I do remember feeling pretty good when she suddenly missed class in the spring, and the substitute teacher said that she'd taken a fall down a flight of concrete steps in an outdoor concert venue and broke her leg...

and hip. She did not return again to the school, and there was whispers that it was because another kid's parents sent in a complaint about her treatment of us minority kids...I wish I knew who it was, because I'd thank them for helping get rid of such an awful teacher.

Anyway...sorry for the tangent :) The only character I've found to be the weak link is Ma-ri (or possibly it's Lee Ha-na's portrayal of her). It's weird because I thought she was a better actress than she is here now...just seems wide-eyed overly surprised-ish whenever she's on screen (she was much better in Women of the Sun and When Spring Comes -- the only dramas I've seen her in). I kinda get the interest she's drawing from Hot Kendo Teacher (I haven't caught the name of Song Jae-rim's character)...but it kinda seems like a forced love triangle, to be honest. Nothing wrong on his end, though...just the slap and the foot to the face by her is a bit overreaching to be comedic and it's not something Mary would like...poor Jae-rim :(

What's with My Family:
Yeah, it's been finished for a while now...but I said screw it with trying to re-watch from the beginning -- and just caught the last 3 eps. While the inevitable happened, it was easy enough to just jump in then and still get what went on.

Legendary Witches:
After the reappearance of Not-Dead Do-hyun, I kinda jumped ship on that. But when I heard the finale was satisfying to watch, I tuned in just for that. It was satisfying to see Evil Greedy Mr. Ma get his dues, as with oldest daughter.

I'm gonna try to catch Kill Me, Heal Me from where I left off, even if that's ended as well.

Have a great weekend, yall! :)

I agree that Mari is the weakest link. I find something about the actress's gesture is rather comedic and I cannot take her seriously. I cannot even imagine she is bright enough to be appointed as a professor at her tender age, to be bluntly honest. Besides, the love triangle is not necessary to begin with.

Overall in K drama lands, there are many miscast --particularly among female actresses.

I am sorry to hear that you had to go through a hard time because of one teacher. A teacher can hold so much power over students,,, this notion is really scary,,, our governments have to screen out certain psyche or believe system( racist, power monger etc etc) of potential teachers....before they sit for the exams to obtain a qualification of teachers.

Hi there JB and GF.

Not sure where to send this remark so hoping the open thread is AOK - for the last five or sic days I have been unable to read your website on my mobile phone. I can see the menu headings and then a big grey space - and no clicking on menu headings pulls up anything except blank grey space. All my other kdrama sites have the same accessibility as ever. Have you changed your settings recently? If so, can they be changed back, pretty please? That's how I mostly read your marvellous site!

Hi everyone! Well after watching Healer I tried to watch KMHM down to the last 2 episodes but can't seem to finish it. I tried to watch Hyde Jekyll & me but as much as I wanted to I can't believe I'd drop a Hyun Bin drama. So I was looking for old dramas and just re-watched 1st shop of Coffee Prince and my goodness I am in love again with Gong Yoo. So the fangirl in me had to get it out of my system lol. I had to google Gong Yoo and watched GY youtube vids and research his old dramas and movies again and again and again...slowly I'm about 80% getting back to normal life :) He is so sexy! Has anybody seen his Vid singing The Last Time? swoon...After Im done with this phase I think I would like to watch Angry Mom & Ho Gu's Love. after I'm done my fangirl stage, when that happens, not anytime soon but 80% is a good place lol. Happy weekend!

This is a totally random rec but, do you want to try Let's Eat?

I just finished that one recently and OMG the foooooooooood. The episodes are short and funny, too. And the focus on food and a core group of people somehow made it seem different than most kdramas for me. Not necessarily better or worst, but just different.

Maybe you can watch it as a palate cleanser type of kdrama? Before you start Angry Mom/Ho Gu's Love.

(Me, I watched it while eating, but the food scenes still made me hungry. XD)

I've been trying to find a good one to watch but nothing new has caught my interest. I know there's an Anne one airing but haven't checked it out yet (plus no Ken makes one sad lol).

But I did watch Ngao Asako with Pong and Peung and got to say I was surprised at how much I liked it.

Oh and then there's Nadech's new drama where he plays a twin (again, no Yaya with Nadech makes one sad)

Looks like there may be more to come. I did some searches. Got three messages like this, which is what Google shows at the bottom of a search when something has been blocked:

In response to a complaint we received under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act, we have removed 1 result(s) from this page. If you wish, you may read the DMCA complaint that caused the removal(s) at ChillingEffects.org.

Here are the links to these notices:

https://www.chillingeffects.org/notices/1676057
https://www.chillingeffects.org/notices/10291645

Glancing over them most of the complaints came from KBS and MBC, a few from TVN and SBS.

While many of the Allegedly Infringing URLs are gooddrama and dramago, there are other sites as well. Just guessing from my quick read, I'd say most of them are for those I'd consider fringe, but I am counting 22 for dramacool. I've checked a few of those links and the episodes in question are still up.

Whoa, I am late to the party for this one! This week has been weirdly busy & I totally forgot! Guess I'll catch up w/my reading tonight. :)

What I'm Watching This Week:

Hyde, Jekyll, & Me: I really want to jump up & down and shout "SEE? If everybody'll stop poking at him, he'll get better!" (Also: Dr. Kang is a terrible doctor.) Also, Ha Na - when your boyfriend says he needs some alone time, maybe you should, I don't know, stop texting him continuously for a couple of days. Just sayin'.

I'm so sad there's only two more episodes.

Blood: I have no idea why I'm still watching this train wreck. It's like Bad TV Bingo (this would make a dangerous drinking game - a shot of the villain sitting? Drink! An extended, unnecessary chase scene? Drink! Inaccurate medical reference? Drink! Slo-mo? DRINK FOREVER.)

I just feel cheated, because it was implied that Kwon Hyun Sang would be another exciting eeeeevil vampire, and instead his character mostly stands around awkwardly. ::sigh::

I Really Really Like You: I...I can't watch this anymore. Too much sexism, too little comedy.

What I Want to Be Watching:

Missing Persons Noir: Yessss, OCN. Gimme another gritty cop show w/ambiguously moral characters.

K-drama Moment:

My daughter's school friend (visiting relatives from Seoul) is headed back home at the end of next week. They'll miss each other terribly. My young'un went to Google translate to write her a card in Korean, and discovered the limitations of internet translation - I think their correspondence will be in English.

Also, a patron brought back Marriage, Not Dating & said "OMG - I'm in love with BOTH those actors". Behind her was her middle-school-aged son, going "GOD, MOM - they're TOO YOUNG FOR YOU" (subtext: Stop embarrassing me!). Heh.

Greetings Dramabeans users, I'm a mostly silent lurker around here but I've recently finished an amazing drama. Perhaps you guys have heard of it; it's a Korean drama called Healer

lol.

Anyways, my withdrawal symptoms are so bad at the moment. I need another dose of Ji Chang Wook asap hahaha!! My question is, would ppl here recommend watching Empress Ki or Warrior Baek Song Soo? I'm more interested in knowing which drama in your opinion has the more satisfactory ending, and less makjang elements (LOL!).

Thanks heaps!!

I'm looking forward to also starting Kill Me, Heal Me after I've gotten my assignments down pat. I prefer to binge watch dramas rather than following them every week as they air.

Hai msmilkt :)

I asked the exact same question while watching Healer! XD

Kdrama friends were split between Empress Ki and Baek Dong Soo, so I chose WBDS because it was shorter.

There wasn't much JCW in WBDS though. I kinda regretted my decision. T____T And his character spends so much time mooning for the annoying plain leading lady in WBDS so I lost interest early on.

If you prefer JCW being a pouty doofus in love, go with Empress Ki instead.

Also, I thought he was the lead in WBDS? There's not much of him in it? damnit damnit damnit LOLOLOL~~

I wish there was a way where I can watch his musicals subbed haha~~ I heard a lot of them were really good.

Not enough for Healer withdrawals. :)

He was the titular character and has fair bit of screen time, but he shares spotlight with Yoo Seung-ho and two veteran actors. (Choi Min-soo and some other guy called "Sword God" in the story. Sorry I forgot his name!)

In fairness, all the "leads" have good story, great acting, but I was tired of sageuk shenanigans at that point and was only watching for JCW. So I checked out when the annoying corrupt officials took too much screentime.

Choi Min Soo scares me (thanks to Running Man lol) but I wouldn't mind seeing more Yoo Seung Ho!

I'm leaning more towards starting WBDS first before Empress Ki now, but in the end I'll probably eventually watch both in due time.

I really hope JCW takes on a few more projects before he enlists, I feel like there's not enough of him around to keep me company for 2 years!

There are however a few other dramas I have on hold at the moment, perhaps I'll watch them first before KMHM as you have suggested.

LKS with tourettes syndrome sounds like a comedic combination (although the actual disease is nothing to joke about ><). I do enjoy watching him in Running Man though sometimes I think he should tone it down a little. I think he has a really bright future ahead of him in the comedic scene, and hopefully after this drama I would think the same with his acting career too!

Eventually I am going to end up ALL of these dramas ahaha!! But where to find the time?? Real life and responsibilities suck lololol.

I just finished watching Bitch  Asshole, and can I just say: Holy Cow, that Sex Scene.

Dear Kwon Hyun Sang, thank you for being mostly naked in a film where your character has intimate, loving sex with the female protagonist. I thank you, my libido thanks you, and my husband may thank you later, if you know what I mean (and I think you do.) ::fans self::.
