News bites: March 21, 2015
by awcoconuts
- Shim Eun-kyung (Cantabile Tomorrow) has been offered the movie Invented City, and she is considering the project among other offers. The film will be directed by Park Kwang-hyun (Welcome to Dongmakgol) and will be about a man who was framed for a crime and subsequently dreams of revenge. It sounds like more delays might be in store for Fist Fighting, that other film director Park’s been attached to. [Osen]
- Su Ae and Joo Ji-hoon have confirmed SBS’s new melodrama Mask, and Yoo In-young (Three Musketeers, You From Another Star) is in final negotiations to join them. Yoo will play a wealthy woman who can have anything she wants, except for the heart of one man. Mask will air after Girl Who Sees Smells in May. [MBN]
- Given the rough start and the show’s poor ratings, it comes as no surprise that the weekend drama My Heart Twinkle Twinkle has been cut short from 50 to 26 episodes. The finale will air on April 26. [SBS funE]
- Cameras are rolling on The Exorcist, the movie based on Shin Jin-oh’s horror novel The Shaman Woman’s Cave. We knew about the casting of Kim Sung-kyun and Yoo Sun, but now we have more info on their characters: Kim’s psychiatrist has psychic powers, and Yoo Sun is an art gallery director who is “unaware of her fate.” (That sounds appropriately ominous.) Cha Ye-ryun (She’s So Lovable) joins the cast as a hot-blooded PD with a passion for mysteries, Kim Hye-sung (High Kick!) plays an apprentice to Kim Sung-kyun, and Chun Ho-jin (Bluebird’s House) rounds out the group as a minister who is trapped by his own faith. All filming will occur in Busan, and The Exorcist has an ambitious release date of this summer. [SBS funE]
- Although Lee Jin-wook has declined Hello Monster, Choi Won-young (Kill Me Heal Me) joins the show as a scientist/research expert who is intimately familiar with criminal cases and the current members of the police force. His character sounds like one to watch out for; he had a lonely upbringing without family or friends, and he’s described as a person who is in a position to potentially tamper with evidence. Hello Monster will air on Mondays and Tuesdays after School 2015, which follows Blood. [Joongang]
- Lee Elijah (Wonderful Season) has been cast as the friend of the title character Geum-bok (Shin Da-eun) in SBS’s upcoming daily drama, The Return of Hwang Geum-bok. It sounds like a typical daily drama filled with chaebols and birth secrets, and Lee’s character, the daughter of a poor and crass single mother, is described as cold and stoic. She sounds more like a frenemy than a friend, as the challenges of early life have caused her to become ruthlessly determined and full of spite. The Return of Hwang Geum-bok follows Run Jang-mi in June. [Joongang]
- Please Marry My Wife, a popular 2012 Japanese novel written by Higuchi Takuji, is being turned into a Korean film. A source from Cross Productions, who is producing the film, said, “The film rights were secured during the latter half of 2014, and we intend to release the movie during the first half of 2016.” In the book, a man in the final stages of pancreatic cancer has six months to live, and he’ll spend his last days searching for a new partner for his wife, to ensure that she and their son are cared for after his passing. [Osen]
- More Misaeng alums have been cast in Missing Noir M, the show that already cast Kang Haneul to play a psychopath in episodes 1 and 2. Park Hae-joon (Chief Chun) and Sohn Jong-hak (Manager Ma) show up for Episodes 3 and 4, and Park will play a man whose children were abducted from him, while Sohn will play an executive at the company where Park works. The show features a genius former FBI agent (Kim Kang-woo) and a 20-year veteran detective (Park Hee-soon) as bickering partners who solve various cases over 10 episodes. Missing Noir M begins March 28 on OCN. [Osen]

Same here. I guess his military service at a rather young age made the industry forget about him or something

I had to look at the picture for about two minutes before I realised he was the kid from Boy Meets Boy. I thought he'd left the industry altogether.

Hmmm, they are also adapting "please marry my wife "in Japan. NHK is in charge and they better get a great actress as the Jversion will Have Kimura Tae who is spectacular.

Ohhhh! I love Kimura Tae. I've always thought she's vastly underrated (she often plays supporting roles). But she was indeed nothing less than spectacular in Gururi no Koto (All Around Us).
Sorry, with her in it, I'm definitely going for the Japanese version with this one.

Misaeng reunion <3333
I'm actually starting to get worried about the recent wave of casting offers to new actors/actresses that we were all so excited about, because so far none of them have actually confirmed. Hoping we get news on Han Groo, Kang Sora and Lee Yubi soon (and that no one gets shafted and displaced into second lead again).

Has Lee Elijah gotten better at acting? I haven't watched Wonderful Season so I only know of her acting abilities (or lack of) in Basketball.

I read couple of articles saying that Ji Chang Wook is almost confirmed for the movie Invented City.
I don't mind Shim Eun Kyung as his leading lady. I haven't seen her in anything, but I heard that she's a good actress.
It looks like Invented City is one movie to watch out for.

You must try Miss Granny and Sunny, both movies of Shim Eun Kyung. Though for me, Kang Sora is the best in Sunny hehe.

Shim Eun-kyung is fantastic, and has been that way from a ridiculously young age - easily one of the most talented actresses of her generation. Miss Granny and Sunny are great starting points to check her out, and The Legend if you're interested in her child actress work.

Anyone know what happened to that upcoming drama with Yang Jin Sung and No Min Woo--something about a regrettable boyfriend? It was supposed to premiere this spring, I think. Also, what about Divorce Lawyers in Love? Wonder if dramas are getting shelved or if their premieres are just delayed.

I think I read somewhere that Unfortunate Boyfriend (I'm assuming that you meant this drama, right?) is slated to premiere on April 10, if I remember correctly, in MBC.

"Divorce Lawyers" follows "My Heart Twinkle Twinkle" on April 18 at 10:00 p.m. (because of MHTT's early end, instead of the scheduled July). It was supposed to premiere this Saturday and be SBS's last 8:45 p.m. drama, but "The Family is Coming's" horrible ratings meant the timeslot was canned even earlier.

I wanna see Shim Eun-kyung again in a drama :( I thought she was amazing in Cantabile Tomorrow but after the pressure/ negative criticism she got it might take a long time (or probably never) before she returns :(((

Either way I like the premise though I hate crying lol.

A news bite of a different kind.
This afternoon I went to watch the last few remaining episodes in my 'I Hear Your Voice' marathon on dramakeep and found it and its sister site gooddrama had been shut down.
What to do?!
After a couple of deep breaths I came back to DB and 'saw' the drama through to the conclusion through GF's recaps.
Thanks DB! Thanks GF!

try myasiantv.com or dramacrazy.eu
I'm pretty sure a couple of other sites still work but the thing is gooddrama had one of the largest list of shows so now it's gonna be a little harder to find especially older shows and movies :/

Myasiantv. is a very good website, but it's offering is still poor, there are hardly any Japanese shows on it. But I get the idea that the bigger the site gets the sooner it gets shot down, that's how it gets noticed by the copyrights watchers. :|

Oh my god , this is so sad. I used to watch dramas in thier site. Konw I shifted to dramafire and sometimes viki .
I hope they stop this wave of closing sites, because it'll make it hard for us to watch our beloved kDramas :'(

So sad that gooddrama.net is down too..
I just remember I haven't download all Ji Chang Wook's old dramas, like WBDS or Smile Donghae. Now I have to scour the internet again.. :(
Anyway, if Shim Eun Kyung signs up to that movie, does it mean she will paired up with Ji Chang Wook??
Please both of you sign up that movie!!
