Nam Joo-hyuk up for first starring role in School 2015

I’m not sure if Nam Joo-hyuk is quite leading man material yet, but I guess that’s the beauty of the School series — it takes newbies and spits them out stars. The 21-year-old model has been making quite the splash on cable in the JTBC variety show I’m Going To School, along with a supporting role in the tvN drama Surplus Princess — both are debut projects for him, and he’s already in contention to star in Who Are You–School 2015.
The KBS Monday-Tuesday drama has finally secured a leading actress in Kim So-hyun (Reset), who recently confirmed the casting news. She’ll be playing a set of identical twins, and the series will be about one twin’s mysterious disappearance, while the other will transfer to her school and suddenly become the new It Girl in her place.
Nam Joo-hyuk is reportedly considering the role of the popular boy at school, which if you’ve ever seen him on I’m Going To School, is no stretch of the imagination. He’s much older than Kim So-hyun, but maybe it’s because he’s always dressed in a school uniform for that show that it doesn’t seem all that weird to cast him as a high-schooler.
I see him more as the goofy best friend than the sports star who rules the school, but at this rate, we might cycle through a few more leading men before any of them confirm. Nam Joo-hyuk is still so green that Kim So-hyun might act in circles around him, but he was awfully cute as Big opposite Kim Seul-gi in Surplus Princess, so it’s hard not to find him adorably endearing. Well he was cute in Surplus Princess, but leading man material? I don't see it.
Isn't he also too old to be Kim So Hyun's love interest (presuming they will have a loveline between the two?) I was hoping for Kwak Dong Yeon, he's 18 and a bit more age appropriate for her (and I think he's got potential).

After Kang Min Hyuk declined the role, I also hope for Kwak Dong Yeon. Or other talented child actors, like Yeon Jun Suk, No Young Hak, Park Gun Tae, etc. They already have tons of experience as child actors/supporting roles so transitioning to lead role would be more natural.

considering the fact that I routinely see people here wanting 99er Kim Yoo-jung (same age as Kim So-hyun) to pair up again with Lee Min-ho '93 who's over six years older than her, the sudden burst of concern over a five year age gap between Kim So-hyun and this guy is a bit surprising lol.

To be fair she can act circles around pretty much anyone they can cast without being super creepy.
She turns 16 in June and he just turned 21 so as long as there's nothing to adult it wouldn't bother me that much if he were to be cast.

I think he's really cute and everything, but Nam Joo-hyuk is terribly green. You could see it in Surplus Princess. I didn't mind it much there because the drama was silly and cute, but I like how real and raw the School series is, and I don't think he's talented enough to take on a meaty role yet.

Well I adored him on Surplus princess, i think he is really cute and he fits really well to be maybe a second lead.. but i would prefer someone else to take the leading role. I would also hope for Kwak Dong-Yeon ^^

and let's be realistic here, a large chunk of the adorableness of that Surplus Princess pairing was thanks to Kim Seul-gi.
I'd much rather see someone who's proven themselves take this role. Nam Joo-hyuk is cute but way too green.

He's five years older than Kim So-hyun (he's a 1994-born kid) so the age difference isn't THAT outrageous. And she had a love line in Suspicious Housekeeper with Park Ji-bin, who's only a year younger than him.
Now I don't know if he can act well enough but it's probably the Kim So-hyun show anyway.

I caught a few episodes of Surplus Princess and he made no impression ... however, the show is pretty much centered around the female lead so I don't think his part will be meaty. Still mad that they don't have any qualms about casting someone who has not demonstrated any real potential as a 'lead' male role but they had to get someone as experienced and well known as Kim So Hyun for the female role. Then again, the fact that they're still casting a month out from the premiere smacks of desperation.

yeah the calibre of people they've been going after for male lead in this drama compared to the talent shown by the casting prospects for female lead makes me pretty sure this is going to be the girl's show all right.
I mean, Kang Min-hyuk and Nam Joo-hyuk vs. Lee Yubi and Kim So-hyun? Come on.
Now I just want Lee Yubi to score a lead role in something really awesome now, like the next Answer Me instalment or something.

also, at least they offered the lead role in this drama to talented actresses both times around. Kim So-hyun doesn't really need the exposure as much, but frankly I will take anything that cements her status faster - she, Kim Yoo-jung and possibly Kim Sae-ron are primed to wipe the floor with all the useless idol actresses in just a year or two from now.
What REALLY makes me rage is something like the casting of Hyeri for Answer Me 1988.

The loveline in Suspicious Housekeeper was pretty non existent it was one sided and was pretty much a crush there weren't many romance scenes and it was an open ending of them just staying as friends.. I wouldn't really count that.
But age difference shouldn't be that big of a deal remember High school love on? Kim sae Ron was 13-14 when she had a kiss scene with a guy that was 22-23.

yeah this particular age gap is not that big a deal. Not when we've had a then-16 year old Yeo Jin-gu paired up with 23-year-old Ha Yeon-soo, or worse, 12 year old Kim Yoo-jung having a kiss scene with an 18-year-old Lee Min-ho (and everyone likes that enough to ask for a repeat pairing, never mind that she was twelve).

He's too busy for this though. If Kang Minhyuk declined because of CNBlue's schedules, EXO's schedule is probably a lot busier since they'll be promoting a new album very soon.

I'll be happy if he accepts...
At this point, since Kim So Hyun already confirmed, I really don't care about the male counterpart, all these boys are cute at their young age, so are the lovelines.
The cast for the female part was the most important for me.
Lee Yubi doesn't do much for me, so I was glad that she passed, and now I'm super excited for this drama.

Well, if you're gonna be green and lead you might as well do it in a show like School, I think. I would be for it. I do like him because I feel like he is not worried about coming off as "cool" like other model turned actors starting out. That's nice to see.

If he's from YG I'm not surprised he got a leading part so fast. It's not the first time models from YG get lead parts from the get go. The power of YG is huge! And they have some good actors there, even if they're mostly known for their idol groups. I don't know if he's one of the good ones since I've never even heard of him, but good luck to him.

Never seen him in anything except for that show Hani's on but he's definitely cute and I have a feeling he will be huge in the future. He kinda looks like a taller lee hyun woo too. Anyway School 2015 should hold auditions for their actors if they want high quality acting.

if they cast KSH as female lead, they should cast someone with same acting talent. I can think more than 5 young actors (95ers or younger) to be her male lead: Yeon Jun Suk, Park Gun Tae, Oh Jae Mo, Shin Dong Woo, Seo Young Jo, Kang Chan Hee, Ahn Do Kyu,...
Korea has many young actors/actresses and i dont know why idols ( and now models) are only ones who get lead roles

everyone you name is perfect for a male role in this instalment. i was also thinking about Kwak Dong Yeon. i think maybe the male lead won't be a very developed character (aka maybe he's the comedic relife) and maybe that's why they aren't considering any of the actors you mentioned

although i'm not too fond of shin dong woo, i guess the main issue that boys that are Soo Hyun's age visually look a little TOO young so to balance it out, they're aiming for older guys that have baby faces and can look 16, which is kind of a bummer
