Joo Ji-hoon offered SBS melodrama Mask with Su Ae

Joo Ji-hoon might be returning to television this year: It’s been two years since his last drama, Medical Top Team, and he’s reportedly being courted to star in SBS’s new melodrama Mask. Is it a role with a lot of brooding? Because Joo Ji-hoon broods like a beast. Su Ae (Yawang) has been offered the leading role, and both actors are considering for now.
The new drama comes from writer Choi Ho-chul of Secret and PD Boo Sung-chul of Heirs, and so far the description remains pretty vague. It’s a melodrama about people who live wearing masks to hide their true faces. Su Ae has been cast to play a woman who happens to enter the world of chaebols (how, we don’t know), and it’s the story of how her life changes because of it.
There isn’t any character information on the role that Joo Ji-hoon is considering, though I’m going to wager a guess that he’ll play a second-generation chaebol heir. Maybe a little cold. Maybe a little arrogant. Maybe there aren’t that many character types in dramaland after all.
If they’re looking for two actors to wring tears and wreck hearts, I think we’re set. Maybe they can become friendly while trading stories about working with Kwon Sang-woo. It’s hard to say whether I’ll be tuning in since we know so little of the story and characters, but I do like the leads, and trust them to carry a tormented love story and play the angst to the hilt.
Mask will air on Wednesdays and Thursdays in May.

he really is too good an actor to be wasted on nonsense like Five Fingers and second lead roles forever.
And I would love to see him with Su Ae, they're both champs at melodrama (The Devil and her last three dramas prove that). But I definitely smell makjang from the writer and genre...

I read that this is going to be about mistaken identities and that Kim Min Jung is also considering an offer - given that Kim Min Jung and Soo Ae look remarkably alike, I'm betting that Soo Ae is brought into the family to replace Kim Min Jung (who might be an errant fiance, sister, or even sister in law) in some capacity.
Sounds so not like my cup of tea but I'm happy that Joo Ji Hoon may be climbing out of the hole he dug for himself.

Man, this is a project worth watching if he says yes !!! But I really want to see him in a romcom (please a romcom for Joo Ji-hoon !!!). I hope he it's DAEBAK again, is so damn talented, cause damn, that 5 fingers thingy....and that top team thingy ..... It was just a big no, no. He was so brilliant in Confession !!!
The only thing is that I have a feeling that melodrama don't work as well anymore, in therms of viewer rating I mean, (unless they are a bit over the top) or maybe it's just my impression.

By the way is he banned from any broadcast station since his scandal ??

I think he's still banned from KBS. Used to be banned in MBC, too, but obviously that went away with him appearing in Medical Top Team.

Tbh I didn't like Joo Ji-hoon before because his character in MNK pissed me off so much I avoided/was uninterested in everything else of his. I have a begrudging respect for him now since Confession. SPOILER He was still a terrible human, but he got his dues, so the blood lust I carried over was sated. SPOILER
He's not a bad actor though, actually a pretty good one, so this works for me. Granted I still kinda want her with Yoo Ji-tae for meta jokes but this isn't a comedy.

Love the writing of Secret, but it was also directed well.

I think that everything that was wrong with Heirs can be placed at the feet of the PD. All the staring and bombastic OST.
Remember, this is the guy who thought it would be a good idea for LMH to surprise kiss PSH and filmed her pushing him away and kept it.

I love Joo Ji Hoon but can he be in something light and fun with lots of smiles and not brooding?
I would love to see him reunite with Shin Mina in a proper love story and not like The Devil (although the story itself was brilliant) and The Naked Kitchen.

Hmm, I'd love him to do something quirky and cute instead. Tvn had great projects he should do something for that network or ocn.
