Han Groo offered leading role in Scholar Who Walks the Night
by girlfriday
Now THAT’s what I’m talkin’ ’bout. Casting news for Han Groo (Marriage Not Dating) is always happy news, but when it’s for the leading role in a highly anticipated drama, it’s cause for celebration. Fusion vampire fantasy historical drama Scholar Who Walks the Night has been picked up by MBC for a summer broadcast, and is now courting Han Groo to play the leading lady. The show has been in development for a while, and though Park Hae-jin (Bad Guys) was in contention to star last we heard, his reps released a statement that he’s already turned it down.
The drama is an adaptation of a popular webtoon by writers Jo Joo-hee and Han Seung-hee, set in a version of Joseon where vampires walk the night. The story centers around the young daughter of a nobleman who loses everything when her father is framed for a crime. She starts crossdressing in order to sell books to make ends meet, and ends up meeting a handsome and mysterious vampire scholar. The mystery also includes an evil vampire who resides in the palace.
I know nowadays it’s a cliche to have a crossdressing heroine in a historical drama, but since the script is being penned by writer Jang Hyun-joo who worked on Coffee Prince’s adaptation, I’m hoping for some magic stardust mojo. Directing is PD Lee Sung-joon, who was the second PD on Empress Ki, May Queen, and The Moon That Embraces the Sun.
If Han Groo signs on to play the heroine, that character had better have some spunk, is all I’m saying. Don’t waste a kickass actress (Have you seen Girl K?) on a damsel in distress. It’s just all wrong. I know it’s a lot to ask, but I reeeeeeally (truly, madly, deeply) want an epic fantasy drama with a strong mythology and a sweep-you-off-your-feet romance for this. I’ve been burned by promises of grandeur before, so I don’t want to get my hopes up… Aw, who’re we kidding, my hopes are up and away, damn them.
Scholar Who Walks the Night is being planned for the Wednesday-Thursday slot following the Hong sisters drama Jeju Island Gatsby, which puts the premiere sometime in July.

I really can't get along with this "cross dressing" thing , it's really hard to believe like how Korea dramas show a girl lives in man's disguise for day after day, months after months!!!! What about the facial hair growth, skin and most importantly the voice????
To me, the worst cross-dressing was in SKKS believe me PMY is too feminine for that but the drama was reaallllyyyy good that's why I ignored that :)
And the best cross dressing in KMHM .... Yes. Yes Ji Sung aka Yo na!!!! Yo na does look weird in school uniform but that bunny suit .... Well that suits her only, I cant imagine even a girl in pink bunny hood to look as cute as Yo Na :) :)

Noo Min Woo already has the look of a vampire. He's perfect for this role. Ji Chang Wook is also a good candidate, but maybe he is too good for this project. However, the PD of this drama worked with JCW before in Empress Ki, so I think there is a chance that JCW might get an offer for this drama.

Congratulations to Han Groo ! I'd hope Ji Chang Wook would accept if offered. That would be a nice pairing. I think those two would melt the screen.
Like others have said, I hope the scholar isn't too stuffy.
Make it somewhat cute and sexy please. Let's not get too bogged down in court politics, (unfortunate symptom of saeguks).
So writer, if you're about to gown down the court politics route, scratch that out and insert cute and sexy instead, ok ?

Since they are scholars John, hopefully they would be tracking some ending or solution to an event through a book/story. That would be meta..ala Possession? or the recent Cormoran series of JK Rowling err R Galbraith. Love both novels by the way.

I hope Kim Soo Hyun accepts this drama instead of Producer. I mean I love Producer..... but him paired with IU just sunk my hope for that drama. Even Cha Tae Hyun, the god cannot save my hope again.
KSH and HG will make a good pair!

Although I didn't finish Marriage, not dating.. because Idk... why... I loved Han Groo in it. Bwahhaha she was so hilarious... especially in that episode where she struggled like crazy to empty her stomach... and at the end..... when the hell broke loooooooose. LOOOL. An actress who is willing to act in such embarassing scene, can pull of ANYTHING

I'm surprised that nobody's mentioned Shin Sung Rock, I think he has a vampiristic appeal.

Well I know he is very good in powerful roles but I don't think he would look good as a "good vampire" actually I am bias to his negative roles :P , my favourite villain in dramaland :D

cause this vampire does not at first impression seem that evil but Shin Sung Rok would probably bring out some involuntary chills.

Hmm vampire scholar?
How about Hong Jong Hyun or like others said, Kim Jae Wook ?
Both have that intensity that a vampire should have, they have stares that can either send chills down your back or make your heart beat faster.
They can pull off smart with an edge = vampire scholar
And of course, they are both so darn gorgeous!

In! SO in. Something must be happening in dramaland cause they are picking some beloved actresses of mine. Next we'll hear something about Gong Hyo Jin, Kim Sun Ah, and Kim Min Ah. I mean what are the chances? For reals tho can I please get some dramas with these ladies in the lead?
