News bites: February 28, 2015
by awcoconuts
- Baro (God’s Gift – 14 Days, Answer Me 1994) has his first starring role opposite Lee Mi-yeon (Merchant Kim Man-deok) in a movie short called That’s Not It. Commissioned by W Korea as part of their short film project, the film will show Lee as an actress waiting in anticipation for her secret date in an empty theater. A totally unexpected young male (Baro) sits next to her and begins casually sipping her soft drink, and… Gah! I want to know what happens next! That’s Not It will be screened in March at KT & G’s SangsangMadang. [Xports News]
- This movie news is thrilling: Shin Hyun-joon (Oohlala Spouses) has been cast as a killer in the upcoming Chinese-Korean production The Bad Guy Must Die. (Waaait a minute, if the bad guy is Shin Hyun-joon, must he really die? How about we change that title to Might Die?) It’s said he was personally recommended by co-executive producer Feng Xiaogang, and he’ll be reunited with the other co-executive producer on the film, Kang Je-gyu, for the first time in nearly 20 years (they worked together on Gingko Bed). The movie also stars Chen Bolin as a youth who travels to Jeju Island with his friends, and Sohn Ye-jin (Shark) as a mysterious Korean woman. Cameras begin rolling next month and filming will occur entirely in Korea, with Jeju Island as the principal backdrop. [Xports News]
- I like this unexpected pairing: Jung Yumi (Discovery of Romance) will play the wife of Ma Dong-seok (Bad Guys) in Busan Line, the upcoming blockbuster starring Gong Yoo. She’s play an expectant passenger aboard the Busan-bound high-speed train, in which a strange virus spreads like wildfire. Did I mention the disease turns the living into zombies? Eeek! Busan Line begins filming in April for a late 2015 release. [TV Report]
- It’s a long shot, but Im Shi-wan (Misaeng) might return to the screen as a… cross-dresser? The offers have poured in after the hit tvN show ended, but he’s apparently been in talks about a role in the movie Chaehongsa since his pre-Misaeng days. Set in the Joseon era, the film is about a man who loses the woman he loves to the King. In order to be closer to her, he’ll transform into a woman to enter the palace. While the material sounds like it could be adopted for a comedy, it’s more likely director Kim Mi-jung (Shadows in the Palace, The Concubine) will take the film in historical, dramatic direction. [Star News]
- Park Jung-min (You’re All Surrounded, Bleak Night) is finalizing negotiations to play the bestie of Kang Haneul (Misaeng) in an upcoming film about the famed poet Yun Dong-ju. Titled Dong-ju, it will be a biography about Yun, who was discovered posthumously after he died in a Japanese prison during the late occupation period. Kang will play the poet who was convicted of being a proponent of Korean independence, while Park will play his close friend. Casting of supporting roles is underway, and filming is expected to begin in mid-March. [Star News]
- Here’s more casting news for Private Investigator: Seo Young-hee (Thrice-Married Woman) will play Kwon Sang-woo’s wife. She’s described as constantly squabbling with her husband; perhaps her husband’s antics as a bookstore-owner-turned-amateur-private-eye have her at wit’s end? [Osen]
- Cha Tae-hyun (Jeon Woo-chi) will appear in another movie produced by his older brother, Cha Ji-hyun. They last worked together on 2012’s The Grand Heist, and the elder Cha also has producing credits on last year’s box office and critical success, A Hard Day. The as-yet untitled film will be about a loser who finds himself in a fantasy romance, and the screenplay is currently in its final stages. [Star News]
- Yoon Kye-sang (Full Sun) and Han Ye-ri (Sea Fog) have already begun filming One Dramatic Night, a rom-com about a man and a woman who’ve both been dumped by their partners and find themselves in a one-night stand. Yoon’s character is described as a guy who outwardly plays it cool but who hasn’t been able to forget his ex. Han will respond physically to Yoon during their night together in a way she’s never felt before (rawr), and she’ll start playing hard-to-get to win his affections. It seems she doesn’t keep up the game for too long, however, as that fateful night is described as opening their eyes to the meaning of true love. [Osen]

ugh I haven´t gotten over Han Ye Ri´s character LEAVING in Sea Fog after all the drama.
all seem like intersting projects, except....zombies? really? had enough of zombies. why cant they turn into some other supernatural characters. it would be more interesting to have them turn to, say, human unicorns or... cannibal midgets...

I love zombies though so I'm happy about this.
Plus, it's MDS! :D I can just see him bashing zombie heads in while sticking his tongue out at them.

Wait! Did you just spoil the end of Haemoo?! The film isn't even out on DVD yet nor is it the place to talk about it here.
Well, thank you VERY much.

You could have said 'I remember her last role specifically' and everyone who saw it would have known what to make out of it.
Sorry, but I hate thoughtless spoilers like this. First and foremost in the first line of the first comment.... There are actually people going out of their way to NOT read stuff about endings.
A couple of weeks ago someone argued about endings 'being all over the place', when said person spoiled TWO series endings within a totally unrelated thread before. BS. Makes me stay away here tbh.

I must the most exited about Baro&Lee Mi-yeon short movie and Shi-wan's movie...curious to see how he'll pull the crossdressing because even if he is pretty i still see him as a guy even if they put make-up type because of his features

I feel like a proud noona/unnie for all our One Inter Interns, look how well they're doing now :) - first it was Byun Yo-han and Kang Sora geting lead role offers, now it's our kid and Baek-gi in the movies (which sound really interesting, just that they're movies so we won't see them for a while.....not that I can blame them for taking movies over tv when offered)

I'm just wondering, what about news for Orange Marmalade? Apparently they have confirmed 2 lead guy actors and one of the them is Lee Jong Hyun from CNBlue! I'm very excited to see him as a vampire. Looking forward to this drama - I hope it'll be better than Blood. Although I'm not saying that Blood is a bad drama, it's bearable and okay to me....but definitely not the best. There's so many things that the writer/director could have done to improve it. That drama had potential even if I'm disappointed in the main lead's acting. But since I'm a sucker for vampire genres, I'm gonna end up watching the while of blood. Orange Marmalade I can't wait! Hope theyoose a good female lead!

the lead heroine was choosed already is AOA Seolhyun i think, remember seeing some time ago news about that...well hope she will be decent, but i understand why they choose a idol for the role, the heroine must know how to sing...Well the genre and plot is completely different than Blood, only the vampire in the show is the same thing...I confess i'm more curious to see teh lead pull the role of the human hero because at the moment i don't see him at all as the Jaemin...I see more one of the other CN Blue guys as the lead to he truly honest but till i see the first episode i'll have hopes...i also want to seeLee Jeon Hyun as the vampire, curious if they will make the same color his hair as in the webtoon...I guess that's the bad think about reading/knowing the plot of a drama after a webtoon...

Jung Yumi and Gong Yoo are teasing me.
Really like the sound of th project with Yoon Kye Sang and Han Ye Ri. I really like the both of them individually and this sounds really good. Will look forward to seeing this maybe 2 years from now lmao.
These all sound pretty good. Will keep an eye out. The project Im Si Wan is considering seems like something I would like but might also make me cry. Could see him passing for a young lady, too, with the right make-up.

gobg yoo has been on this project from the start so happy that more extra ordinary actors/actress are on getting signed up. there is my ultimate fave Ha jungwoo and hwang jung min, and not jung yumi and ma dongseok. Whew. This train is really making full stops in preparing me to anticipate it.
lastly i love MDS, but cant they have gong yoo and jung yumi be the married couple. I've been wishing for a full drama or whole movie with that loveline ever since silence(movie) and cyrano dating agency cameo(drama)

Lol, agree-that's what I meant when I said those two were teasing me. Really trying to get them in something romantic together as leads. Just once. I mean look at how they keep gravitating towards one another!
It'll be cool to see how Korea does zombies, though! Don't think I have seen it yet.

Totally. They're in projects together but have yet been romantically linked. I think they would look great together and have fab chemistry. Then again, Jung Yumi is pretty good with just about anyone. :)

Chaehongsa sounds good. Hopefully, ShiWan accepts, but I would watch it no matter who gets cast in it.

I think baro will be lee miyeon's "secret" son. since she's an actress she had to keep him as a secret.. but I think it will also be interesting if its a story of an affair with a guy young enough to be your son. Also since she's an actress in the short film itll be interesting to see what going to happen if its released to the public
Siwan cross dressing in joseon era is interesting.. among the Korean actors I could think of he has the most femine/soft features. I hope he'll accept the offer. He might not too because he was teased for not having a gf ever back then, it might have affected him, but I hope not. Cause he fits this role in my mind,,

I hv no prob wt idol casting if he/she is good and start small...Baro is one of them. He was just so good in Answer...and i look forward to seeing him in more projects...but there are others who are painful to watch and dont get better after a few projects...stimes ppl are just gifted in one field...others in both...i hope they stay true to their calling...

Looks like after a good break, Yumi is back! Although she's doing another movie but can't wait! Why can't she pair up with Gong Yoo again? Why do we have to wait so long for dramaland reunions???????

Too much great news in one great compilation!!!
I personally get much excitement on these 3:
1. Shin Hyunjoon being casted. That actor is so much about great acting, but really underappreciated, which drives me nuts about this crazy world. He has been solid in all roles he's been in. I first knew him in Stairway to Heaven, and followed him ever since. I oughta rant loudly, but he should have been the Mainstay Gaksital Grrrr. Hahaha apparently I must move on now, it's 2015 now for goodness' sake!
2. Ma Dongseok being casted opposite Jung Yumi (though I know Gong Yoo will still be the one to get her right?? Sigh...) It's small news, unusual and unexpected pairing, but nonetheless I am soooooo happy!
3. Yoon Kye-sang my darling Yoon Kye-sang. I just love him from the bottom of my heart... I mean real bottom of my heart... Thats how deep my love and respect for Yoon is. I am so happy for you ahjusshi Yoob Kye-sang (but "OPPA" is not that bad)... ;-)
