Kill Me, Heal Me: Episode 9

Do-hyun’s growing feelings for Ri-jin have him all shook up—and when Do-hyun is emotionally stirred up, you know it won’t be long before everyone else is, too. Ri-jin has to earn her pay as a secret physician several times over, working overtime and even going undercover. But there are too many secrets to keep them all for long, and more and more people start to gain glimpses of the bigger picture. Who will win the free-for-all at Do-hyun’s company, and who will win the free-for-all inside his head? At this point it’s anybody’s guess; but then, not knowing is half the fun!

EPISODE 9 RECAP

Remember that kiss?! So does Ri-jin, who wakes up in her room in Do-hyun’s apartment and immediately dives back under the covers, trying not to think about it. She wonders if it was really Do-hyun who kissed her, and if it was, whether he might not remember.

As Do-hyun starts his morning exercise routine, thoughts of Ri-jin keep popping unbidden into his mind. He even tries meditation, listening to a soothing voice that tells him to get rid of his lust. But that only renews his memories of the kiss, so Do-hyun breaks meditation to slap himself in the face.

Do-hyun spits out a mouthful of orange juice when he meets Ri-jin in the hallway. He makes it clear he remembers everything, and in embarrassment Ri-jin runs for the exit. He catches at her scarf, causing her to tumble to the floor. She gets up and makes her escape, and Do-hyun runs after her, face alight.

Power-walking away from him, Ri-jin wonders why he’s following her. She says she’s tired of vegetarian meals, so she’s going in search of some meat. He can follow if he wants, she says… and then runs away. Ha!

Ri-jin runs in and out of the bushes lining the street, while Do-hyun chases after her playfully. A big, carefree smile stretches across his face.

Over breakfast, Do-hyun has a hard time looking away from Ri-jin’s lips. She doesn’t seem quite as entranced though, even letting out an impressive belch.

In voiceover, Do-hyun begs Se-gi not to appear and destroy what he’s begun to build. Do-hyun is opening himself up to love for the first time since discovering his illness, and the only obstacle is Se-gi. If Se-gi lets him have this, Do-hyun thinks, “I will become your false image in the next life.”

Chae-yeon meets Ki-joon’s mom, who takes her out to lunch. Mom tells Chae-yeon not to mind the rumors about her, and that everyone knows her son is more capable than Do-hyun. Chae-yeon sips her coffee, keeping her thoughts to herself.

In Do-hyun’s apartment, Ri-jin has prepared her office for a consultation. Do-hyun asks if the scented candles aren’t a bit much, but Ri-jin wants to set the mood for an important discussion: appropriate doctor-patient relations (we’re a little late for that, aren’t we?). She warns him about the danger of positive transference, which is when a patient grows overly attached to his doctor.

Do-hyun notes with quiet amusement that Ri-jin is actually the one who seems uncomfortable. She spaces out for a second, entranced by Do-hyun’s smile and puppy-dog eyes. Nonplussed, Ri-jin escapes to the kitchen, claiming that she needs some coffee.

Ri-jin gulps down some water. “Positive transference, my ass!” she snorts. She knows that she is the one developing unprofessional feelings, and tells herself to get a grip.

When Ri-jin returns to the office, Do-hyun is nowhere to be found. But there is a message scrawled on a notebook that says, “I am Nana.” Ri-jin goes around the house in search of Do-hyun’s youngest alter.

A hunch brings Ri-jin upstairs to her own room. Inside, she sees a figure in pink hunched behind the enormous stuffed bear that Se-gi bought her on their short-lived first date. Ri-jin calls out softly to Na-na…

This is not Na-na but Yo-na. Ri-jin recognizes the bunny pajamas as her own, which sparks a hilarious girl fight (“You’re so strong!” Yo-na complains).

Ri-jin stops fighting to ask about the stuffed bear, and Yo-na explains that Na-na was playing with it. Yo-na turns away to rummage through Ri-jin’s dresser, complaining that she doesn’t have any pretty clothes or makeup.

Yo-na finds Ri-jin’s family portrait and demands Ri-jin’s oppa’s number (it seems like there’s at least one person who thinks Ri-on has Won Bin-level looks). Both of them eye Ri-jin’s unguarded cell phone, and Yo-na breaks for it first. Ri-jin grabs for Yo-na’s hood to stop her, causing her to tumble down the stairs and lose consciousness.

Do-hyun wakes up hours later, with no memory of what happened. He finds Ri-jin in the living room patching Se-gi’s gift, with empty beer cans and soju bottles lying all around. Ri-jin hides behind the bear until Do-hyun identifies himself, then tells him what happened.

After dragging Yo-na into bed, Ri-jin eventually fell asleep. But she woke up to the sound of a rice cooker being dismantled—definitely not a good sign. Sure enough, Perry Park is in the kitchen making bombs and downing soju. He’s happy to see her, since the last time they met she was a hostage. Now that she’s safe, however, he reprimands her for talking to an “elder” in banmal and returns to his bomb-making.

Ri-jin distracts Perry by holding an impromptu dance party. They listen to trot music, and Ri-jin rediscovers moves that have lain dormant since the Clapping Monkey Dance. After three hours of dancing, drinking and merriment, Ri-jin finally gets Perry to fall asleep.

Before Ri-jin can get some decent shut-eye, however, she is rudely awakened once more—this time by the rousing and emphatic opening of Beethoven’s Fifth. She follows the music to Do-hyun’s office, where Yo-sub is reading through an art history book.

Ri-jin sits down next to Yo-sub, who comments that Do-hyun brought a nuisance into the house—but he doesn’t sound all that annoyed. Ri-jin asks if he regrets not dying that day. If he had, she says, he wouldn’t be able to listen to this music, or see the pictures he’s reading about, or even experience this fate of meeting her again.

“It seems the others are happy to still be alive,” Yo-sub says. “So I’m thinking about not dying for now.” He tells her that he’s going to sleep, and that she doesn’t have to worry about him. Before he gets to the door, he turns back and says sincerely: “Thank you.”

Back in the present, Do-hyun asks whether Se-gi appeared. Ri-jin says he didn’t, and Do-hyun reminds her that her contract includes faithfully sharing every encounter she has with her alters. Ri-jin begins to scold him for not trusting her, only for Do-hyun to sink into a chair and sigh heavily.

“I’m glad that you weren’t hurt,” he says at last, making Ri-jin smile. “That’s better than saying ‘I’m sorry,’” she muses.

Alone in his surveillance room, Do-hyun reviews the tapes from that night. They corroborate Ri-jin’s words, since there’s no sign of Se-gi. “Am I getting stronger,” Do-hyun wonders, “or is this just the calm before the storm?”

In the ID Entertainment elevator, Ki-joon asks Chae-yeon if she has come to her senses yet. She remarks on his uncharacteristic lack of caution, talking about their relationship where employees could hear. Just as the door is about to close, Do-hyun comes rushing in. Ooh, this ought to be awkward!

Ki-joon apologizes high-handedly for the way Chae-yeon acted during Do-hyun’s blind date. Do-hyun replies coolly that old friends can act that way, and that he wasn’t offended.

Ki-joon attempts to move the discussion to the girl Do-hyun supposedly sent away before meeting with his rich blind date. Ki-joon knows that the girl used to work at Kanghan Hospital, but went abroad—he thinks Do-hyun hid her away in his house in America. Do-hyun is calm and collected as he replies: “I hid her in a very safe place.”

The door opens to show… Secretary Ri-jin! Oh, my. She greets all three by their titles and bows politely, while Chae-yeon and Ki-joon fail to hide their shock.

Do-hyun leans in assertively, drawing on some serious alpha-male body language as he tells Ki-joon that there’s nowhere safer than the company. Where better to keep an eye on Ri-jin than in the lion’s den itself? “This way,” he adds with a fiendish grin, “I can see her whenever I want.”

Do-hyun exits the elevator with style, gesturing for “Secretary Oh” to lead the way. As they strut down the hallway, the two conspirators trade high fives. I’m loving this so much right now—looks like Do-hyun has a new secretary who will go to any lengths to protect the boss!

Chae-yeon changes her mind about delaying their engagement, and tells Ki-joon to name the date. She denies that her decision is because of Do-hyun, though she is somewhat less than convincing. If they’re going to marry, she says, they might as well get it over with.

Meanwhile, Do-hyun and Ri-jin arrive at the office to find Do-hyun’s mother waiting inside. Ri-jin introduces herself as the new secretary, and Do-hyun asks her to wait outside while he and his mother talk. Out in the hall, Ri-jin laughs that she feels like a wayward student, and muses that Do-hyun is completely different from his mother.

Mom asks Do-hyun if he purposefully ruined his blind date because of Chae-yeon. In the hallway, Ri-jin sees Grandma Seo approaching and remembers how Do-hyun warned her to be especially careful of her.

Grandma enters the office just as Do-hyun’s mother is delivering a tirade against the girl who dared to dump her precious boy. She asks Do-hyun pointedly why he called his mother out of the house, but Mom admits that she came on her own initiative. “Why don’t you understand that this is the worst thing you can do for your son?!” Grandma Seo demands.

Ri-jin overhears the entire argument from outside, while Do-hyun keeps his head bowed and merely apologizes. His hands tense as Grandma Seo continues her tirade.

Ri-jin rescues Do-hyun from the situation with a made-up appointment. Pulling him along by the hand, she explains that she was doing her job by keeping him away from Grandma Seo’s scrutiny.

Back in the office, Do-hyun’s mother grows earnest and begs Grandma Seo to give up on Do-hyun’s father. He probably won’t wake up from his coma, and their enemies are gathering strength while searching for the missing child of his first wife. Before that happens, Do-hyun’s mother urges Grandma Seo to help Do-hyun strengthen his own position. Grandma Seo storms out, livid with rage.

Ki-joon’s father receives information that someone else is looking into the hidden heir of Seungjin Group. He orders his man to keep him informed of any new developments.

At a coffeeshop, Do-hyun asks Ri-jin how much she overheard outside the office. She admits that she heard everything, and Do-hyun sighs that his family is very different from hers, with all of its intrigue and past circumstances. “If you get to know them,” Ri-jin replies, “my family has circumstances too.”

Chief Ahn arrives, telling Do-hyun that he has a meeting. Ri-jin wants to go, but Chief Ahn says that she has a different appointment. It turns out to be with Dr. Seok, who’s sitting alone on a park bench with a loaf of bread, looking like the Korean mirror image of Sad Keanu.

“I feel like I’m meeting my daughter who ran off with her boyfriend in the middle of the night,” Dr. Seok begins, and Ri-jin apologizes for lying to him. However, experiencing how hard it is to hide the truth from her friends and family has only made Ri-jin more determined to help Do-hyun, who has suffered through that exact same pain for eleven years. Dr. Seok, the big softie, can only sigh: “This is why they say there’s no point in raising children.”

Chief Ahn explains that the Omega writer has had a change of heart, agreeing to a meeting on the condition that he will only meet with Vice President Cha. Chief Ahn promises to remain nearby, though he wants to know if the mysterious writer is really as handsome as Won Bin. Do-hyun goes inside, where Ri-on waits to greet him.

Ri-jin brings Dr. Seok up to speed on the merry-go-round of personalities she’s had to deal with. Even though he treated Do-hyun for eleven years, Dr. Seok has never experienced so many personalities in such a short time. It reminds him of Do-hyun’s suspicion that Ri-jin may be associated with the trauma that caused Do-hyun to develop split personalities in the first place.

Back in the meeting room, Ri-on explains his deception to Do-hyun. Only his family and his editor know his real identity, and he approached Do-hyun already knowing that he was the heir to Seungjin Group. But Ri-on says that he thought Do-hyun was adopting different personas as a way of getting away from the stress of the chaebol life, and that he thought it only polite to play along with Do-hyun’s ruse.

There are three conditions that Ri-on insists on before he will allow ID Entertainment to turn his novels into movies. The first is that he will write the film adaptations himself, and the second is that he will maintain his anonymity by pretending to be the Omega author’s assistant writer. Do-hyun asks what the third condition is, but Ri-on says that it can wait until after they have eaten.

Dr. Seok tells Ri-jin that if she really is connected with Do-hyun—if they were together in the past, during the period where his memories disappeared—then meeting her may be the best thing that could possibly have happened to Do-hyun. She could hold the key to his lost memories, which are in turn the first step to reintegrating his personalities.

As they eat lunch, Do-hyun asks Ri-on about the boy in his story: Does he ever figure out why he was afraid of basements? “It was love,” Ri-on replies.

The boy wanted to comfort the girl who was afraid of basements, and so he pretended to be afraid as well. But his pretense turned to truth, and the fear became real. It wasn’t until the boy had grown, Ri-on says, that he understood how his love had developed.

“Then does he ever discover why the girl was afraid of basements?” Do-hyun asks. Ri-on replies that he’s still searching. If he ever discovers the truth, he wonders, should he reveal it? Or should he bury it forever? As Ri-on tells his story, a sharp pain causes Do-hyun to put his hand to his head.

Outside the restaurant, Ri-on and Do-hyun shake hands to cement their business partnership. Ri-on warns Do-hyun that he is very picky as a writer, and Do-hyun observes that they seem to have a strange fate. “I hope it turns out to be a good fate,” Ri-on replies.

Do-hyun walks to his car, but Ri-on calls out to him: “Is Ri-jin doing well?” Do-hyun whirls around, shocked, and Ri-on reveals his third and final condition: Do-hyun has to arrange for him to meet with Ri-jin.

Ri-jin walks back to the apartment, thinking about her conversation with Dr. Seok. A call comes in from Do-hyun, who tells her to go to a café nearby.

Ri-jin enters the café, and when she sees Ri-on waiting for her, she gasps and bolts for the door. He chases her and brings her back in a headlock for a serious chat.

Meanwhile Do-hyun staggers into his apartment, looking much the worse for wear. Childhood memories of the basement flash up intermittently, and Se-gi’s voice echoes inside his head.

Ri-on yells at Ri-jin for hiding at Do-hyun’s apartment instead of telling their parents the truth. He complains about her staying in an apartment with a man, but Ri-jin reminds him of his promise to support her. It’s only for three months, she promises—once Do-hyun leaves for America, her job as his physician will be over. Ri-on leaves without answering, warning her not to turn off her phone.

As Ri-on drives away, he bitterly regrets all the choices he made that intertwined Ri-jin’s fate with Do-hyun’s. He engineered the “coincidental” meeting at the airport, then unknowingly encouraged Ri-jin to sympathize with Do-hyun’s loneliness… and finally, he sent her away without knowing where she would go.

Ri-jin returns to the apartment and hears whimpering coming from Do-hyun’s room. In the grip of a nightmare, he relives the horror of the basement from his memories. But someone else is there in his dream, and Do-hyun holds out his model train with a shy smile.

The shadowy figure starts to leave, but Child Do-hyun grabs for the person’s hand. In the present, Do-hyun clutches Ri-jin’s hand while sleeping. “Don’t go,” he whispers, echoing his younger self. “Play with me.”

At the Oh family restaurant, Ri-jin’s mother takes out a crinkled photo of herself and Min Seo-yeon, Do-hyun’s dad’s first wife. She asks her husband if she did wrong to raise Seo-yeon’s child, but he replies that the child is theirs now. In the next room, Ri-on hears their discussion. His mother says she believes in Ri-on, and trusts that he will be a good brother to Ri-jin.

Ri-jin has fallen asleep next to Do-hyun, still clutching his hand tightly. His eyes open, but the light shining from them does not belong to Do-hyun: “Shin Se-gi?” Ri-jin asks.

Se-gi traps her between himself and the bed, trying to make sense of the situation. “Why are you here in Cha Do-hyun’s bed?” he demands. “WHY?!”

COMMENTS

I am so in love with this drama! The Day of Many Personalities, as it shall be known in the history books, absolutely took my breath away. It was, in my opinion, the best sequence in the show so far, and that’s saying something. Yo-na’s rapacious crush on Ri-on fit her character beautifully, and Perry Park, as always, lights up the screen even when he’s only out for a few minutes.

The frantic personality-switching was hilarious, and then we get to Yo-sub and his quiet gratitude, his happiness that Ri-jin heard his cry for help and wants to be there for him. I don’t know if it’s the writer or Ji Sung who is more responsible for the effortless shifting between comedic and emotional registers, and I suspect that trying to figure that out would be an exercise in futility; both the writing and the acting in this show are superb, and with each episode I become more and more invested.

Just for fun, let’s take a moment to imagine Yo-na successfully texting Ri-on to meet her. Ri-on goes to a coffeeshop somewhere, expecting to meet the aloof chaebol who’s exploiting his sister, and… bam! Yo-na meets her oppa, and Ri-on never recovers from the trauma. There are a few weeks left—this has to happen sometime, right?

On a more serious note, having Ri-jin around seems to turn Do-hyun into a stronger, more confident version of himself. His confrontation with Ki-joon in the elevator was proof of this, and it was fascinating to watch Ki-joon actively reevaluate his impression of the cousin he’s always dismissed as feeble and powerless. If the corporate politics remain this grounded in the evolving relationship between the cousins, I will be one happy camper.

I also loved Secretary Ri-jin, and not just because of the Protect the Boss flashbacks. Ri-jin has joined Chief Ahn as one of the few people firmly on Do-hyun’s side, and now the team is assembling in the workplace/battlefield. Do-hyun has people he can rely on now, and that makes for an immensely satisfying change even as it foreshadows the danger of losing them.

I am so excited to see Ri-on preparing to take on a more active, assertive role. He has two goals: To discover what the Seungjin Group has kept hidden, and to protect Ri-jin. I expect that he won’t be able to keep those goals separate, and I fully anticipate some heartbreak when he has to choose between them—because I can’t see it ending any other way.

There’s a certain amount of unavoidable ickiness that arises whenever we encounter faux-incest elements in a drama, but I think it makes sense in Ri-on’s case. As he explained to Do-hyun (by describing the plot of his next novel), Ri-on grew up knowing that Ri-jin was not his real sister, and he also grew up knowing that he wanted to protect her. His feelings developed little by little over the years, subtly, morphing from brotherly protectiveness into something more, probably without him even recognizing the change until it was too late.

There are a few lines from the Gotye song that played in the café where Ri-on met with Ri-jin that seem particularly relevant here: “You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness; like resignation to the end, always the end.” I feel like Ri-on is addicted to his own brand of sadness, which is the bitter pang he feels every time he sees Ri-jin and knows that he should not, cannot ever act on his feelings. He wants to be the supportive brother, while his rebellious heart can’t be satisfied with that. Is it creepy? Sure. Does he have any control over it? Not at all.

That’s what makes Ri-on, in my eyes, easily as intriguing as Do-hyun and all his personalities. Of course I want him to stay as Ri-jin’s brother, and I think it would be tragic if the easy rapport they have were to be damaged; but at the same time, that rapport is only possible so long as Ri-on suppresses his true feelings. Do-hyun isn’t the only person who has to wear a mask to keep the people around him from getting hurt.

The only thing that was missing from this episode was Se-gi, but that’s what Episode 10 is for. Having already seen it, I can only say—avoiding spoilers, which I ask all of you to do as well—that things are only going to heat up from here!

We’re almost halfway through, and Kill Me, Heal Me keeps surpassing the bar it sets for itself each week. If the show can keep up this momentum without faltering, it will rank up there with the best shows I’ve seen, let alone recapped. Let’s keep our fingers crossed, both for continued excellence and for the triumph of true love; by which, of course, I mean Yo-na’s love for Ri-on. Wouldn’t they be adorable?!

Thanks! I do have similar suspicions and try to explore the possibilities. And I wonder sometimes, is writer really seriously going into that direction? Or is there something else within the family that we all don't know, something that is not apparent to all of us, including SSG.

Now that we are almost halfway into the series, I just hope they will not give us last few pieces of the puzzle too late... (referring to show that reveal twist only at the very last episode).

the story is great until now, they already give the puzzle but they just hide the board so we can't place it right now
but the story already revealed some answer and linked what character knew,
make Ri-On meet do hyun
make ri-jin beside do-hyun and help him
ri-on knew ri jin work for dh
and more from ep 10
the answer is given each week but not frankly told
I get more understanding each ep if I recall what they said in earlier ep

I have faith on the drama because now, they just need to pull the string to connected what they really talked about
and i don't think all the character is actually right on their word, i mean maybe the character doesn't knew the true story
but so far, I enjoy all the plot this drama had given
it sucking me into their world without I even realize
the mystery will reveal and I am the one who patient enough to wait until now,

and thank for drama that remember how fun and lighthearted scene is also what we need at some moment despite mystery

and if you curiosity can't wait
drama thread shared so many thought on plot possibility

Thank you purplecow for the great recap!

My guess is Ri On is the missing son of the dead Chairman (ick!) and wife (or ex-wife) of Do Hyun's father, who both died in the car accident. This is why Ri On can be a treat to Do Hyun's father, who's currently in comatose. So that makes Ri On as Do Hyun's uncle. Wow! Talking about how crazy dysfunctional family can get. I'm curious is how Ri Jin got entangled into this family's mess, and if she's also adopted. ~This is just my assumption~ :D

For me, Ri Jin is the missing child. Ri On didn't lose any childhood memories. If he was the missing child, he won't need to do an extensive research about everything that happened; he would already be aware.

Also, both Ri Jin and Do Hyun are afraid of basements and fire whereas Ri On is not. He only pretended to be afraid when he was young to console Ri Jin.

I'm not sure, though, whose child Ri Jin is. Because the way grandma treats Do Hyun, I feel like there's something off...

Me too..I think RJ is MSY's child from another man (maybe from the US when she went there). Hence, DH and RJ isn't related in any way.

But then, if RJ is MSY's child from another man, then why is it on Episode 6, Ki Joon's father tried to find "the child"?

"Ki-joon’s mom’s mind is on Min Seo-yeon’s alleged child. She asks her husband, what if that child was a boy? That would shake up the Seungjin succession and might hurt Ki-joon, but unperturbed Dad says they’ll find him first, then, and win him to their side."

MSY is only their daughter-in-law, so her or her child wouldn't really have a big connection, unless she's got a big stock share in the company?

This my Beanies is what I love about this drama, it's unpredictability and Ji Sung's acting is so addicting! LOL :D

0

@Whisper

Maybe because MSY is still the true daughter-in-law and we all know that she was appointed by the grandpa as the president instead of it's own son. Knowing that, her child still has shares to claim from the Seungjin Group.

Another note is that why is Ri Jin the one with lost memories if Ri On is the hidden heir?.

This show really is addicting :)

0

@Aria,
I think we all assume that Ri Jin is the other (so far, unknown) child in the basement with Do Hyun and since Do Hyun lost most of his memories in the basement due to trauma, it's equally possible that Ri Jin doesn't have past memories for the same reason.
They're both afraid of basements too which sort of confirms that.

0

For me, I think he wants Rijin to remember whether he is the missing child or not because that is the only way to tell
His family that they can be together or he can publicly tell Rijin that he loves her as a man.

for what i believe decisively at this point is that both do hyun and ri jin were locked in that basement together. we know do hyun's mom was a mistress and if ri jin is indeed the daughter of min seo yeon well that would explain why grandma would want BOTH of them locked up out of sight. and its possible her intent was to have them killed in the fire that eventually happened in that basement. but that got fucked over cuz do hyun's dad (gran's son) died er went into a coma after saving both children. do hyun's mom knows all of this, and uses this information to blackmail the family into making room for her and her son do hyun. and since gran's son died trying to protect do hyun (his illegitimate son) and the blackmail mistress mom had on gran n co, well do hyun became one of the possible successors of seung jin group.
meanwhile ri jin got adopted by friend's of min seo yeon, was renamed by them (her real name was likely Nana) and oh ri on found himself with a new lil sis. that's as far as i got so far.

I think your summation explained it the best. That's the reason why Grandma is so worried/scared for the kids to not remember....& for coma-Dad to wake up. If they remember, she'll have to take drastic measures &....put them (Do-hyun?_) away again??

0

@ whisper
I love your analysis....adding to it, this could be a possible scenario:

1. Min Seo and father in law had Ri-On
2. Fearing backlash from her mother in law, Min Seo hid and arranged her son to be adopted by her friend
3. Min Seo adopted Ri-Jin instead as "daughter" will pose less challenge to the family conglomerate. So Ri-Jin ended as a playmate to Do Hyun and suffered the same basement trauma
4. When Min Seo died, her friend took in Ri-Jin automatically coz she was probably named in her will as the next of kin.
5. Ri-On probably knows his identity but decided not to reveal it yet coz he wanted to stay by Ri Jin's side and to unravel the "dark secrets"
So that's how they all end up entangled. Anyway just a guess.

Another scenario is like what the others highlighted - that Ri Jin is indeed Min Seo's daughter with another man.. But why would she wanna bring her own child into the in law's house and expose her to be ridiculed for not being part of the 'bloodline'...hmm...

Aria:my two cents on why Ri On doesn't experience DID or PTSD or other invisible wounds is that he was loved/wanted/valued in his life. DH doesn't have that same experience and it's distorted him. Ri Jin provides acceptance, tolerance, and like, growing into something stronger. DH is strong with the few people who accept him.

I always thought that Do Hyun and Ri On shared a really strange fate. Ri on could have become like Do Hyun, suffering from split personality and turn into Segi number two permanently after living in the most twisted family and Do Hyun would have lived well with Rijin and become a happy person. Their lifes are like a total reflection of each other if they were in their shoes.

Do Hyun was thinking of Ri-Jin's lips, but I could only look at Ji Jung's pouty, pouty lips. Mmmm

And yes, I second the request for a family tree because I am so confused that it.

I had meant to watch 1 or 2 eps but marathoned in a week. Really liking Ri-Jin and how self-aware this show is. And it's so impressive how Ji Sung and the writers clearly show 5 different personalities. (We haven't really seen Nana yet.)

Still remembers all of Ri Jin's gem phrases:

"Do I look like a romcom heroine who will enter a contract marriage just coz of some debt?"

Don't forget her "Why romcom suddenly turn into action, porn, and bromance?"

And also "If you are a Beast, then you should get help from a Beauty like me!"

"All of you will form a complete image, like a beautiful puzzle. Merge into a perfect Cha Do Hyun."

Etc etc.

Wkwkwkwk this girl is such a precious riot. I still laugh when I see the scene of she wore a masked scarf with sunglasses on top. And those killer dance with Perry Park. Love her!

Can I contribute to the list of "Sh*t Ri Jin says"? :D

- Why did you stop? If a man took out his sword, you have to go till the end. Why are you so cowardly?
(Then she tried to force a kiss on Do Huyn for "confirmation")

- All the nicknames she has for her colleagues "His nickname is Dispatch because he knows all the gossips and rumours in the hospital."

- Explain to Do Hyun about positive transference, only after telling herself "Positive transference my butt! You are the one who start to have counter transference."

And hilarious things trademarked by Oh Ri Jin:
- Flip people Chuck Norris style
- Monkey dance
- Prevent-Ferry-Park-from-making-bomb dance
- Instead of sewing the bear with normal needle and thread, she used her surgical tools to suture it LMAO

She's my animal spirit.

Kim Yuri carries off clothes really well - I remember envying her outfits in Master's Sun too (other than one episode where it looked like she skinned a lot of parrots for their feathers, ha). I wish Ri-jin got some better clothes too, even simple ones would be nicer than the sponsored monstrosities the stylists put on her this ep.

0

Required fields are marked *

are her clothes really sponsored? (has it been verified?) I refuse to believe that any of the ugly sweaters she wears was chosen as a fashion statement. I know chunky sweater is making a comeback but this is not even stylish chunky sweaters. Maybe Ri Jin is a hipster and is wearing ugly sweaters ironically. I also like that Hwang Jung Eum tends to change up her looks, esp. her hair, for every drama, but good lord she has not has a good hair style (in a drama) since 2010. Whenever you see a gorgeous spread of her with nicely styled hair in a magazine, you gotta wonder what she thinks of her characters in dramas to style her hair the way she does (in dramas). Sigh.

Sigh~~ :3
I can't even describe how happy and content this show makes me. Like purplecow said, I too get more and more invested every week, which makes the humor more and more hilarious and the drama more and more heart tugging. When this show ends, I'm gonna be a complete mess. Sigh ~~~ :(

Since we got (almost) all of them in this episode, who is everyone's favorite personality?
I think Perry is mine- he just lights up the screen and his ahjussi-ness is so adorable. Yo-na is also awesome and definitely the funniest, but we haven't really connected to her on a emotional level yet. I didn't originally like Yo-sub as he's kinda a downer (lol) and comes off as stuck up, but his interactions with Ri-Jin really speak to the very heart of the show and its message. And SG and DH... do you really expect me to choose??!! We havn't seen Nana much yet, but I'm SUPER excited for Mr. X!!! I have no idea what to expect, and as we get farther into the story the mystery just gets more and more tantalizing. I have some theories about him from next episode, but I'll save that for later. So anyway, thoughts?

i really do enjoy all the personalities. Ji Sung is absolutely fantastic in all the roles. But the interaction between Ri-jin and Yo-na just kills me. I love how Yo-na seems to immediately turn Ri-jin back into a seventeen-year-old girl.

I love this show!!! You said it perfectly, that if the show keeps up with how well its developing its characters and plot (and to the God in heaven, please let it be so!), it will be one of the best shows ever!!!!!!

Also, Ji Sung deserves to win a Daesung award for his flawless, incredible performance! Plus Jung Eum is a perfect scene partner for him. It's her Ri Jin that provides the earthier and angst- relieving yang to Do Hyun's bottled up painful and lonely yin.

In fact, all actors perform their parts superbly well. I can buy the crazy Grandma who's waiting for her son to wake up, I love Dr. Seok and Ri On, and I get the loving but mysterious Oh parents.

Please, please, please writer-nim, keep doing what you are doing!

agree, if ji sung doesnt win, then dont know anymore, like how can he not. and jung eum i love her and i love her as ri jin, both ji sing and her are very comfortable with each other and they know how one another work so they always have each others back while acting out the scenes. and it shows on screen. i love ri jin, she is smart but loud, tough and a no non sense kind of women. she also has a lot of agency as well as well as compassion. if the writer can keep it up then his show can no only be popular but also remembered as one awesome drama.

The alternative is that RO is his half brother.

And whoever suggested that CDH was a product of his mother's affair with the father in law makes me feel even more icked out.

It wasn't just you that's what icked me out, that people thought it was a valid plot line.

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

And me too. I know it's strange but I could not find another reason why the Father sides his daughter in law so much. What is even weirder is Grandma hates Do Hyun. It's like his existence is disgusting and couldn't wait for her son to be out of coma to kick her own grandson away? Let's go back to the car accident shall we? I find it is also damn disgusting but that would be logical for someone who hates her own "grandson" so much yet love her son so much? It could be only the act of betrayal that these two persons are being so disturbing that they do not only betray her, her daughter in law also betrayed her son and her under the condition If Do Hyun is the illegitimate son.

I have another theory but I shall leave it to next episode recap which I find it much less disgusting plot line and I need next week recaps to support.

0

Required fields are marked *

I maybe wrong but I don't think RJ is Min Yeon's daughter but instead Ri On is her son, therefore, can be a threat to the heir's throne or whatever they call it in chaebol's world LOL.
If that's the case, then Ri On is CDH's uncle, but it hasn't crossed my mind that CDH can be the son of the chairman, which is possible...hmmm...but if that was the case, should the old lady/CDH's grandmother be looking to her grandchild? Unless there was a mixed up and she thought that Ri On was killed in the fire? And since they can't tell the world that CDH is the Chairman's illegitimate child, they just let it go and lied to everybody about it. Ahhh my head hurt LOL

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

i share your opinion on CDH being the chairman"s son and Ri On might be the grandchild. There might be a mixed up during the fire incident. My 2 cent clue is ,why does the grandma hated CDH so much if she is the grandchild even from a mistress. At least he is blood related. So if the grandma's son would die,the right heir is CDH.That's why she is looking for the real grandchild

DH is his father's son. RJ would be the mother's illegitimate child.

You know that's a no- no in Kdrama land. Actually in real Korea as well.

0

I actually think they are step siblings and share no blood. DH is a product of his father's affair with his mom and is thus illegitimate, and RJ is a product of the wife's affair with another man, she's also illegitimate, but I wonder who her father is.

I like how the people behind this drama weave in small Easter eggs that let a viewer know what's up, if they notice.

Like the fact that the little shell-shaped cakes we see Yo-na eating are madeleines, i.e. the cakes from Remembrance of Things Past - a work that deals with involuntary memory (very fitting for a drama with multiple personalities that come into consciousness when triggered by something).

and someone please get this show's sponsors to give Ri-jin some less hideous sweaters. That haircut is terrible on anyone - I last saw it on Lee Yubi in Pinocchio, and even there the stylists realised their mistake and had her pin the ratty fringe back after a few episodes - but the sweaters are, well, ugh.

wow i didnt notice but thats a great aspect of this show, the little easter eggs they put in and clues, also someone on soompi forum pointed out how se gi's red tattoo seems to be getting simpler in design, could that mean something or representative of something. or is it just one big coincidence, which i dont think is when this show is concerned.

My personal take is Segi's presence is slowly killed off because Do Hyun will be stronger when he comes back and he wouldn't need Segi's protection anymore. Furthermore, did anyone notice that Do Hyun also following Ri Jin's order (when Rijin running to the door and she fall down because Rijin was shouting don't follow me or something) which is sharing the trait that Segi has. It could also means that Do Hyun and Segi is slowly becoming one person.

ah no, i am okay with the negative and skeptical about the drama because it is have some trouble,
and I understand what you said, I also wasn't interesting on the drama before and I watched it late, on ep4 because one day I have spare time and check what drama is available,
and I am so sorry to use that kind of example

but there's some serious hating that have no baseline about how this drama gonna be whenever I see the news before (i think in every web, there's that bad comment)

I just feel the dejavu because the comment I read was so dragging down even make me feel this drama wasn't worth even to saw the pilot ep. Idk how they can do that and how it can be wrong,
also when (I am sorry to bring it) another drama came the rumor about the lead that supposes to be the lead for this drama,
It just sad how many wish a bad thing about another people hard work which haven't proved to be bad
I understand the skeptical and critique but there is some that totally bring some nonsense logic how this drama will bad just because they want another drama came great, why not support both?
and then,Idk how many people affected by their "wish" (just like how I wasn't interested before), it just sad

but thanks god, it become great, I hope for the best future of KMHM and I hope people don't really harsh on something again

0

I'm also happy for KMHM too :)
They are enjoying the filming of this drama like we enjoy watching it.

As for the other drama HAJINA, I haven't watched it yet.

This coming week's episodes is crucial for both the two dramas for they will compete head-to-head and I hope for the best for the two of them coz I know that both the crews are working so hard especially the actors.DID dramas, fighting!!! :)

I actually watched HJM first as it tackled one of my "story kinks" (psychiatric issues/different people with the same face) and was so hyped (though I'm utterly baffled by Hyun Bin's popularity, he's perfectly functional, but nothing to write home about (though maybe my disdain for Secret Garden spoiled his image for me forever...)). I will watch this drama till the (bitter) end, but it is a terrible slog and two personalities are boring and one-dimensional IMO (not to mention Generic Drama "Heroine" no. 323).

Only after reading comments under one of the recaps for HJM I found out about KMHM and the 7-personalities concept intrigued me and made me watch it. At first I thought it was an utterly crazy mess with grotesque screaming heroine, but I could not stop watching. The more I watched, the more I fell in love with the depth of the script, the comedy and brilliant performances from Ji Sung and Jung Eun Hwang (Oh Ri Jin has to be my only second favourite drama heroine after My Love From Another Star's Cheon Song Yi).

I still cannot believe that KMHM became one of my top 10 favourite dramas whereas previously I was ready to love HJM.

This show, man, this show!!!! I simply cannot!!!

I love happy DH, so carefree and smitten at the beginning, and confident DH at the office in the scene of the most uncomfortable elevator ride ever.

Then the high five.

Dr Seok as the Korean version of sad Keanu, genius. I thought the scene was familiar.

YO NA, PERRY, YO SUB, that scene with Yo Sub where he thanked her. Oooof, the expression on Ri On's face hit me right in the heart.

Ri On taking off his goofy mask and facing DH head on. Ri On is such an awesome layered character.

That scene where Ri on and RJ talked and RO left without his usual smile, reluctant to leave RJ but resigned broke my heart.

And the expression on his face when mom said, 'he'll be a good brother to RJ', made my heart break even more. It's like his feelings would literally break their family apart and that's pretty sad.

Oh yeah Ri On is such an unexpected second lead. The twin brother turning out to be not a brother who has been loving Ri Jin for years.
I am just a bit confused about Ri Jin. Does she recall she was adopted - when her adopted mother introduced them for the first time. If yes, then why she continues to treat him as a brother? If I were Ri On I would have confessed to her... Now is the bit too late. So sad for Ri On...

KMHM really knows how to balance comedy and mystery and all other genres combined.I also love all those inner self monologues of the leads and most of the lines of the characters are well thought of!!!

This drama for me, draws a lot of it's power from the mystery. As much as I want all of the mysteries to unravel, I hope the writer will manage to keep us on our seats and still amaze us even when the time comes that everything is laid down to us.

Although I'm rooting for DH-RJ pair, I feel bad about Oro sometimes. But I'm glad that he's a good oppa to Ri Jin and I'm sure he'll continue to be one.By the way, thank you very much writer-nim, for making this super epic brilliant drama and may you continue to do so until this ends ❤

My bet will always be Do Hyun. Do Hyun should be the illegitimate child since the Grandma acted so cold towards him yet she is so attached to her son. It make no sense when she don't like her own grandson, yeah no?

But my thoughts about Ri On always be the grandson that is hid away from his family. Further more, anyone forgotten about the mother (Dy's current mother?)? She should be his mother. So the link should be, Do Hyun is technically his half uncle. And they don't share blood with Min Yeon.

(Contain spoilers from ep 10)

To support my theory, i always suspect Mr X is grandma's son. There is victim, penetrator and witness. So witness is the mother, pentrator is the son who is still in coma, and victim is Do Hyun.

Yes, He is! I mean Mr X could draw the personality from the penetrator just like Nana is an alter from Ri Jin.

My guess is always when Mr X is revealed, the truth will be unfolding together with the mysteries. (Which is when the son wakes up from his coma).

0

Why I have the feeling that Mr. X is going to appear in ep 11 to prevent Se Gi from committing murder of his father? Whatever he is, I hope he will be a positive personality because Do Hyun has enough struggle with Se Gi and Yo Sub.

Oh my god guys, have you watched BTS of Kill Me, Heal Me?
Those are even funnier than the drama itself. How filming the rooftop scene they were pretending to push the PD down from the roof LOL ha. And then Hwang Jung Eum and Ji Sung were alwasy sitting nose to nose, way too close, so the PD always has to push them apart and make space so the faces are in the camera. OMG Lol. I have tears in my eyes, so funny. But Ji Sung in Se Gi setup BTS gave me real chills, I was like: „Isn´t he taking this a bit too seriously?”
and the NGs man they look so out of it while rehearsing, and then BAM! straight into character so intensely that the cameraman nearly keels over

I bet there are still many more of them which the staffs saved for the BluRay/DVD bonus later, llke Secret Love back then.

Isn't it cute that he calls her "Jung Eum" and she calls him "Oppa". <333

Than you for the recap, MBC executives are grinning, I guess. They turned a project that everyone expected to be a massive failure into a solid hit. This episode, Ji Sung and Hwang Jung-Eum, I don't have words. Their chemistry is brilliant. As for Ri-On, I really wanted his relation with Ri-Jin to be that of brothers and sisters but Autumn in My Heart had to happen. I agree with you. He grew up knowing that he had no relation with Ri-Jin and probably gradually fell for her without even realizing that it was love not just concern/empathy that he felt for her. He can't ever act on it and he knows that. He might not have DID but he has to hide his true feelings as well and with the whole past resurfacing, it is increasingly becoming hard for him to have control over his emotions. Its sad, really sad. As for, Do-Hyun, God only knows what those awful people did to him. And Ri-Jin has made him stronger and more confident. I also am really happy with all the secondary character development, you can connect with them on some level. I have got to give the writers credit for that, the other characters get less screen time but you still you feel for them. If they can keep it up, this show will have an even smoother run for the final half of the show.

Thanks for the recap.

I'm fascinated by the Ri-jin's inability to catch up with Nana so I've decided to use my imagination to speculate wildly.

Se-gi seems to have been the first alter created by Do-Hyun. That creation might have been in response to the traumatic basement event.

Se-gi remembers Ri-jin from childhood and stuffed their perfect date with things he remembered her liking from childhood, including the teddy-bear.

Nana likes teddy bears. She plays with the bear Se-gi bought Ri-jin.

I wonder if Nana is (young) Ri-Jin created by Do-Hyun as a replacement for the original Ri-jin who he couldn't protect. Creating an alter Ri-Jin would lessen the guilt he might have been associated with her death/disappearance.

I have always assumed that Do-Hyun was the target of the basement suffering/abuse/torture. But hearing Ri-On story about the boy who suffered so his love wouldn't suffer alone makes me consider the possibility that Ri-jin was the target of the abuse, while Do-Hyun/Se-gi suffered along so she wouldn't be alone.

--continuing with mt baseless speculations

I don't believe that Do-Hyun is the child of the woman claiming to be his mother. He is not a apart of the Chairwoman's family. He is a disposable placeholder to his "grandmother" and a shield and insurance policy for his "mother"

RO's words were referring to himself, not DH. Remember when RJ told DH that she was always afraid of fire and basement but her twin brother always accompanied her even though he was afraid himself.

In this eps it finally revealed that RO was just pretended to be afraid, because it was heartbreaking for him to see RJ so scared and damaged.

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

Thanks for pointing that out. I needed to have been clearer in my post for it to be understood.

What I was speculating about is not the authenticity of the fear but loyalty as a reason for the suffering.

Ri-On fear is a sympathetic response while Ri-jin and Do-Hyun's are in response to an event.

What I was rethinking was the target in the basement.
I had assume Do-Hyun was the target and the other child in the basement was the companion. Now I am considering that the other child (Nana, or Ri-jin, or Ri-On) was the target and Do-Hyun is the companion.

I am speculating that the companion followed the target to the first basement for the same reason Ri-On accompanied Ri-jin to the family basement--to give support.

Required fields are marked *

Yes, now I understand what you mean.
I agree that's possible. I also get the impression that DH was somehow reversed the memory as his own, in that he thinks he was the one being abused and RJ was his beloved companion, but what if it was only his defense mechanism and the fact is actually the other way around? That's why SG often said DH won't be able to handle the pain if he remembers, was being very defensive when RJ met his mom, and wouldn't answer RJ when she asked whether she was in that memories except if she chooses him. Maybe he was afraid RJ will hate him if she knows that he somehow played the part in his family's abuse toward her (being a helpless witness, for example)?

Required fields are marked *

Yeah, this is also the reason why I couldn't quite figure out who is the true heir of the company. But no one suspect Do Hyun's identity which makes me induced that it should be a boy not a girl (thus eliminate Ri Jin to be the heir). But I guess the trama should be Segi saving Rijin by almost killing Mr X (probably Rijin was mentally tortured to see Do Hyun being abused). Children couldn't handle murder, could they?

0

You make an interesting point by bringing up the idea of witness.

Se-Gi insists abuse requires three. In fact it only requires two, unless you are talking about criminal proceeding. I'm curious why Se-Gi insists there must be a third.

0

Yumi, I agree that Ri-On's story probably reflects the experiences of Do-Hyun and Ri-Jin in some way, and that it might be Ri-Jin, not Do-Hyun, who was the target of abuse. And if Ri-Jin is the missing child, Nana being a version of young Ri-Jin makes sense too. This is also indicated by Do-Hyun's mother getting all panicky and saying "He mustn't remember that child" when she saw the drawing of the teddy bear and the words "I'm Nana".

Then again, it's possible that both Do-Hyun and Ri-Jin were mistreated because both were illegitimate and had to be hidden. Someone mentioned above that the grandmother's behaviour towards Do-Hyun was a bit off, which makes me wonder just whose son Do-Hyun is. If the grandmother really loves her son so much, why would she be so mean to HIS son?

Hahah! Actually what if plot twist: Rijin is the true heir of the company? The grandfather and Min Yeon used to have this affair together but Min Yeon was forced to marry his son becos of Grandma. Then Rijin was born. Do Hyun was an orphan adopted by the family to hide the secret but was announced as his son and Rijin is actually the real son of the Oh family? So the son was so angry with his dad and abused Rijin but Do Hyun decide save Rijin and turn into Segi?

0

Good point Knewbie. It boggles the mind. One would think that Grandma would dote on her grandson as the only surviving heir. That's the natural way to behave. Her hatred of her grandson is incomprehensible and one more mystery to unravel in this drama.

0

i think CDH is the chairman"s son and the threat to the grandma's son who is in coma.So if the son died,CDH would be the heir .Ri On is the grandchild that the grandma"s looking for.

yay, i love you reviews on the ep. this ep was awesome, so funny and sweet and had some emotional moments. i loved the yo sub moment, i mean imagine hearing someone who wanted to kill himself say thank you for saving him and that he wont try again for a while. i know i would burst into tears if someone said that to me.

lol yo na is a gem, i had stitches watching her, especially when she called ri jin a bitch for not knowing her name, ji sung plays her so well, the attitude and sass is spot on. and ofcourse our resident bomb expert perry, his so cute always wanting to make a bomb, jung eum was great, i loved her dance, she danced with such conviction and you can see it on her face how she doesnt want to.

i loved loved the elevator scene, when do hyun was beings so cool and then ri jin shows up and its like hell yeah, so cute how they high fived each other, there smile are to die for.

and my my my boy ri on, got totally hot, i really love his character isnt just your plain old second lead, his characterization is very layered and dynamic and his important tot he plot. im sure at the end everything between ri jin and ri on will be ok, im personally fine with him having feeling cause he never grew up thinking for a long time that ri jin is his sister, his always know she isnt and feelings started very early on. i think the writers have handled that well not to make it creepy or sleezy.

i love how ri jin always trued to run, i should be used to it my now but it always surprises me and cracks me up.

as for the family secret, i have never been so confused watching a kdrama and actually interested in the family secret and all the chaebol stuff. they have given quite a few clues but its still hard to piece everything together, i have to rewatch the eps again. i mean you feel like your on the right track then its like wait no i didnt consider this and that, its like what exactly happened, how messed up is this family really. and i love that. its fun not knowing everything but even more trying to predict and piece everything together.

like you i hope the drama continues to be as excellent as its been. i know we might be needing tissue boxes for future eps, its sure to get heartbreaking.

I don't think she needs to change anything. Her styles, hair, and outfits are consistent with her tomboy, messy, straightforward, witty, and loud personality. That's what makes her believable. It wouldn't do if she sprouted styles like a rich lady or celebrities. Plus, she still looks good, comfotable, and suitable even with that styles so kudos to her.

This is my most favorite episode by far! Dohyun and Rijin hide and seek game was so cute! And I love the starry-eyed look on Dohyun's face even when Rijin burp so grotesquely. He really looked like a love sick puppy in front of Rijin. He couldn't even look away from her lips even if he tried. I love that instead of brushing off the kiss on ep 8 as mistake/alcohol influence, Dohyun readily admit he was aware of it and it was him alright. Dohyun really come a long way accepting someone into his life when he always felt himself as a beast who shouldn't have a friend/lover. I can't help shedding a tear with his plea for Segi not to take away Rijin, I can totally feel for him! Also I was watching the carriage kiss bts, when Jisung mentioned about the kiss, the director corrected him by saying it was a peck, it dawned on me they have been making Segi seem stuck at 7 years old, his ideas of Rijin and the things she loved were of a 7 years old girl, so naturally it was a peck instead of a kiss! Segi may be charming and all but he seems really childish and incompatible with Rijin, Dohyun on the other hand, melt me with every gestures and smiles in front of Rijin. And I don't doubt the man Rijin is falling for is Dohyun and he knows it too. Can't wait these two making kissy face again!

When it comes to fauxcest, it's a toss up between Ri-jin & Ri-on who grew up as adoptive brother and sister, vs. Ri-jin and Do hyun, who I suspect are step-brother-and-sister. Which one is more icky? You can take your pick. They both are not blood related to her, though they each have a close association with Ri- jin.

From the conversation Ri On had with Do hyun, it's evident that he was not the one in the basement with Do hyun. Which leaves Ri jin as the only other person who could've been there.

My heart breaks for Ri On as this is a case of unrequited love that will never be satisfied. And as much as I love Ji Sung and am in awe of his talent, there's something about Park Seo Joon I find quite fascinating and endearing, I think I'm going to marathon A Witch's Romance, just for him.

0
11
reply

Required fields are marked *

That is not a toss up at all. If they are not blood related what matters is how they grew up, Ri On grew up being treated as he was her brother and they were really small, it is very creepy. Dh is a stranger and has no idea he even knew her except from some distant memory.

I understand people like Seo Joon but I don't know how they can find this unrequited love not creepy.

Required fields are marked *

I thought that it is really weird plot at first but as the story unfold, I think the way the scriptwriter execute it made me think that it is okay. Ri On did mention about how he realise that he was in love with his sister using The Child in the Basement story. Plus he must have find himself Weird to carry such feelings until he discover that his feelings are not incesteous.

I think he have his research board about the cha family because of:

1. Who killed Min Yeon (his "mother")
2. Why his identity have to kept as a secret?
3. He wants his feelings to be exposed

He could be the true heir but he didn't expose himself to Grandma which is strange. There are many ways to make himself known but he choose the hardest and the most secretive way (via writer instead of being an employee in the company when he could gain more access to the information he wanted.) So he couldn't have the full picture yet or he couldn't confirm his induction or he probably afraid that Rijin could be his half sister (assume that he thinks or he is true heir and Rijin could been the illegitimate daughter) And making his feelings to be Not okay to be exposed.

It's no contest, Ri On takes the cake because he was raised as a twin brother to her while Do Hyun is a total stranger. Ri On's feelings for his sister also leave a bad taste in my mouth not just because of its icky nature, it's also completely uncalled for and doesn't add up any extra value to the story.

Park Seo Joon is goddamn hot in Witch's romance. It's worth watching for him.

Required fields are marked *

I think there is a contest. I mean based on The Child in Basement story, he also afraid of himself when he realised he was in love with his sister but only get to reconcile with himself after knowing he is not his brother. It help us to sympathize him that he only could pretend that he don't love her sister which is pretty much like different kind of first love when you couldn't express your feelings when you know the person only treated you like a brother/sister. It is really sad but of course, the fundamental of the love line in KMHM for this part is really flawed. But since we are watching a psycho drama, I find it valid plot.

My personal take is it added the value to the story because it is sort of like Lovers in Paris when Uncle and Nephew is in love with the Lead lady (and then we realise they were actually half brother.) It elevates the story because:

1. Segi is the symbol of first love / childhood love
2. Dohyun is a falling in love with good natured man when she grown up
3. Ri On is the brother next door who is always in love with Rijin.

and make the viewers think whether these two persons (segi/dohyun and Ri on) are actually blood related. It also reflection of Ri Jin and Do hyun whether they are the blood related and guess who is the real illegitimate child.

AND YES I AGREE WITH YOU! HE IS SO HOT.

My point is that the Ri On character can still function perfectly fine as a second male lead without developing the romantic feelings for his adoptive sister. He can still care for her, protect her from her painful past purely as a brother. The Oh family is so hilarious and awesome, a rare gem among the dysfunctional families in k-drama land. What will happen if Ri Jin knows about her brother's unbrotherly love for her? It will become awkward for everyone involved and somewhat destroy the amazing, sincere family dynamics they have before. While I understand that a person could develop romantic feelings for their adoptive siblings (Bobbi Kristina Brown being the most notable case) and I don't detest Ri On for that (he can't control what his heart wants), in this story I feel it's unnecessary for the writer to add such a controversial loveline since we have enough crazy secrets and twisted characters for the conflicts to arise.

I think that is exactly how the writer wanted. She wants the awkwardness to happen in order to express the love line in Do Hyun-Segi-Rion x Ri jin. It is the risk to take to fall in love especially you are so close with your "friend". Both Do Hyun and Ri on are like living in parallel world when both have to muster all their might to fall in love with his girl at a cost that their world will be destroyed (one is by Segi another is the oh family) except that one get the girl and one doesn't. We can see both scenarios and how Ri on handle it.

Hi! Ive always visited the comment sections cause I can't get enough of KMHM, this is my first comment tho cos I can't hold it back anymore. I think there are 7 personalities (unless I am mistaken) -- Do Hyun, Se Gi, Perry, Yo Na, Yo Sub, Nana and who? Did I miss it in the episodes? Thank you so much!

Yeah!!! I think so too! mr X must be someone who is really very important to show up. I think Nana have not appear yet because it should be a mechanism for Rijin to remember her past. :/

Having watched this drama nonstop whenever it comes out raw, I can say I boldly predict this:

RiJin is the true heir of SeungJin Group and daughter of the late wife whom passed away. Due to the power of the group already, I think having a daughter was something misfortunate for them and seeing the grandmother's attitude towards DoHyun, I can think that DoHyun is possibly illegitimate or just adopted. RiJin was probably casted aside because she was a daughter and the family wanted a son to become the strength of the company but because DoHyun is not the 'son', he is not the true heir which can also explain why granny keeps putting pressure on DoHyun and hoping that her son wakes up to take back the company instead. (Its quite different from the usual family wants the grandson to take over and hope for him to be good and stuff).

Maybe due to the unloving nature of the family both DoHyun and RiJin was tossed aside and abused in the family. When the fire happened, they only discovered DoHyun and the hidden daughter of SeungJin Group was either thought to be dead or never existed from the outside world since they only wanted the public to think they have a son as their heir.

After watching episode 10, I feel like the one who truely went through the torture was not DoHyun nor SeGi but rather, RiJin herself because she seriously had no recollection of the traumatic childhood; knowing that, it might also explain why RiOn is trying so hard to protect her and figure out her past due to her fear of fire and basements.

Of course, those are my own predictions so no spoilers here ~ I would love to hear other's predictions of this drama so far because every week makes you end up guessing even more! Which I love the formatting of this drama because it's a good pace that doesn't rush but keeps you guessing by bringing both strong emotions and light comedy into the drama. Really well-balanced, written and performed!

Oh me god. Your prediction made a lot of sense!!!! I kept thinking that the "heir" should be a male but if it is so, the loop holes in my alternative plot twist scenarios would made sense too. But I still have some reservation about it because of next episode!! I need the recaps to be released before I can see more discussion regarding this. #refrainmyselffromspoilingothers

My prediction:

I think Ri Jim's real name was Nana.
I think DoHyun was asked to remain in the basement of that house for days ,probably months on end. And ri jin was the only one who kept him company, hence his love for her.
Do hyun turned into segi in that basement and turned back when he was rescued from the fire.
Since he was already exposed as the illegitimate son, he was taken in legally by the family.

Oooo . predicting is fun! Especially because we really don't know which way the writer will go.

I love predicting things too! It's a good motivation to continue watching a great drama :D But KMHM makes me predict more than the usual kdramas because of the way it's directed, gives you little at a time but important moments that just pushes and pulls you into the plot and characters!

I've already said this in Soompi, but I kind of want to point it out here, too. I think, even with amnesia, a constantly abused person will still show negative reactions to scenarios similar to those they have experienced. A knee-jerk reaction, if you will.

While I also believe that Ri Jin was abused to some extent, I think Do Hyun suffered more. His strong reaction to the word/stories relating to "the basement" is probably a significant proof. He doesn't fully remember what happened, but the event was so terrible that he became averse of basements and developed multiple personalities.

Of course, those are just my opinion and may be false. Lol

I agree with you - Do-hyun has great stress because of the basement, Ri-jin is scared of the basement, but nothing remarkably stressed about it. Also child-Do-hyun asked his playmate not to go, meaning that he was stuck there, unable to leave, while the other child was there but could leave when he/she wanted.

What I really love about this show is that it doesn't draw things out. I keep thinking certain things we know will be kept secret, or they'll play off certain emotions for a really long time...but they don't. And it's awesome. And there are still plenty of plotlines and emotions even without that.

Things I'm think of just in the episode is Oh Ri On not hiding that he's Omega or playing around with that but revealing it as soon as he knows - and also him not hiding that he knows where his sister is. Also, even though she's "hidden" as a secretary, key players still know who she is - and this is not a surprise to DH. (In previous episodes I loved that DH turned out to fully understand the situation with his first love).

It's just so so good on so man levels but I specifically wanted to bring up that I loved the writing for this. I never keep track of writers but I think I'm going to have to watch whatever is next form this one. (Naturally the acting is phenomenal too but that's getting plenty of praise....)

Do-hyun is written really well, as a strong character -He was always protective (that scene with him beating up the American abusive dad way back when) and especially shown in his 'hiding' Ri-jin as his secretary. He wanted to keep Chae-yeon safe too, even though he knows she's just playing him to keep her admirers around.... Other people saw him as weak and motive-less, when he was working hard to protect himself.

So I love that his essence has always been the same protective character - it's great to be able to follow that thread throughout the episodes instead of having out protagonists suddenly be a crybaby for Angst and Episodal Climax Purposes - a testament to the writers ( & here's the hoping it carries on to the rest of the series!)

Dear Aoi,

You are currently diagnosed with Kill Me Heal Me withdrawal syndrome. Please take the medication that woul be given to you every Wednesday and Thursday. Your symptoms will disappear after 5 more weeks from now or probably much later when another drama comes up.

From your doctor.

Actually I have another theory, what if Ri On is just hallucinating the whole "kill me heal me" story and actually he is the one having D.I.D? Or it could be like Alice in the wonderland, it's all a dream. Or this is one of Omega's novel?

What I really loved about this show is that they solve the puzzles before we expect them to and that makes it really interesting.

Usually answers are given much after the viewer has already guessed it. But not in this case. I was truly not sure who the actual "child" was. I was leaning towards Ri Jin, but I wasn't quite sure. And the drama really surprised me by revealing it.

I think the show and it's writers are very confident in their plot so they don't need cheap tricks to make viewers come back for more.

As for this episode... oh how I love Yo Na. ANd I cannot wait for her meeting Ri On. And it's even better given their(Ri ON's and Do Hyun's) tense meeting in today's episode. Plus Ri On is such a fun character that we know he'll take it in his stride. BUt his shock is going to be hilarious.

Oh that last scene! Breathless! I love how Ji Sung's face turned subtly from being happy to see her and enjoying the moment - to that sad understanding of who she's actually in bed with, and then anger.

Yes. I couldn't agree with you much more!!!! I felt like I betrayed Segi when I'm happy to see Do Hyun x Ri Jin moments. That's really made Ji Sung one of the best actors in Korea.

And my favourite personality is actually Yona. she is so sassy and believable!! can I believe she is the (extreme) exaggeration of Lee Bo Young?

And yes, Rijin is also the reason why I'm so shaken with my prediction in the drama. The choice of heir can totally reverse the the dynamics in the drama. It would be cool but I am more impressed with this guessing game the writer throw us with.

I remember reading somewhere that Yo Na was inspired from Lee Bo Young's real personality. Not sure which source that statement comes from though.

"oh my god Yo Na is the funniest thing since Finland winning Eurovision"

Now now redfox how dare you? Lordi is one of most iconic winners coming from the big mess that is Eurovision. Don't be mad that our winner got a lot more points than yours. ;)

Oh I dont mean to put Lordi down, it was just that it was so incredulous ( I was actually in Finland at the time) and all the people were just like wtf happened and thats what was funny. like it didnt go to their heads at all that "we always lose, where did this come from?" LOL

0

Haha don't take my comment seriously. I'm just joking, partly because I'm surprised someone mentioned my country in a k-drama blog at all.

Well yeah, everyone was shocked because we are used to having no expectation. Our entries are always some half-assed and lacklustre poprock songs so we never stand a chance. Nevertheless we are happy that we won once and for all with the music genre we are known for: metal. =)))

LOL. I watched Happy Together when Jisung and Hwang Jung Eum promoting Secret. Ji sung did mention they watched each other kiss scenes. I need to correct myself, it's one of the ep?

0

The last scene scared the crap out of me.

I get why people fawn over Se Gi but if a woman was in a relationship with someone like Se Gi she'd probably endure physical or psychological abuse or she'd be stalked if they ever separated.

He is the most troubled aspect of Do-Hyun's personality since he's the one that is closest to the terrible event in his childhood.

It does scares me abit but I could understand him. It's like you saw your girl (even though he claim that Rijin has a choice but in this mind he already implanted the thoughts that Rijin is in love with him since he pecked her when he last saw her) is actually in bed with another guy. That is like 1000% jealousy going to explode and definitely going to get angry with her. He is hurt and you can see tears forming in his eyes. (the last scene didnt you see TEARS??!!)

It's all a part of his possessive personality which as Ri Jin's mentor said could turn dangerous.

Actually i think Segi would be dangerous if only Rijin couldn't handle him. He act like a kid who react so strongly when his favourite toy is taken away from him.
