Jeon Hye-bin scores leading role in Office Romance
by javabeans
It’s nice to see Jeon Hye-bin (Joseon Gunman) get a leading movie part after a lot of years putting in supporting roles; it’s just been announced that she’ll be headlining a film called Office Romance, and she’ll play an actress who’s described as having a frank and fresh appeal.
The character’s name is Woo Yeon-yi (I’m sure it can’t be coincidence that her name, or at least the wooyeon part of it, means coincidence) and she became famous early in her career. That doesn’t mean she’s a has-been, but more that she became known right away and stayed a star. This is literally all we’re given about the premise, though the movie purports to tell the story of young couples in a modern and realistic way—in which case, I suppose it may just be the kind of low-key romance that is dependent upon tone and execution, rather than a high concept. I do wonder how office dating figures into this if the character is an actress without a physical office to report to every day, but perhaps that’ll be on the male lead’s end.
This movie isn’t Jeon’s first lead, but the previous projects where she was a main character haven’t really made their mark (2004’s Miracle, 2005’s Wet Dreams 2), so I hope this project works out well for Jeon. I admit I didn’t really find her memorable early in her acting career (coming off a less memorable singing career), but sometime a couple of years ago she really turned it up, and has been steadily working in drama projects. I really thought she gave one of the best performances in Joseon Gunman (along with her father, played by Yoo Oh-sung), carrying one of the more compelling storylines for the show and marking a nice turning point for her. (And, of course, Healer fans may recognize her from her appearance in the finale earlier this week.)
Office Romance will begin filming in March.

She and Yoo Oh Seong were given the only remotely interesting characters in 'Joseon Gunman' (before they were, of course, simplified and ruined) and they carried them wonderfully.
So I am glad she gets more work and especially a movie. She is a really good actress and deserves more.

Completely agree. 100% a scene stealer and the most memorable character for me (and she had almost NO screen time actually, which makes it more impressive)

yeah her screen presence alone.....she proved herself as an actress, all right. I'm glad she's booking a lead role now.

LOL I loved her in all those X-Man and Love Letter episodes I saw her in all those years ago. Can't believe it's been 10 years or so. Nice to see her turning it up as an actress. :)
I'm probably the only one who isn't watching/didn't watch Healer. Too busy to pick up a drama these days. Sigh...

You're not the only one. I haven't gotten to watching Healer also.
I remember Jeon Hyebin as the second lead in Witch's Amusement who is crying. It's good to know she's getting more recognition for her work.

Seems like JHB has been around forever - even tho back then she was just known as a dancer (even tho she was part of a short-lived singing group) and was a bit quiet on those variety shows.
JHB was the female lead in "Yaksha" from 2010 - which I thought she did a pretty decent job for a fairly newbie to acting.

I would check it out. Javabean does the recap here. It was a wonderful surprise and became one of my top dramas. It is a beautiful story that is fun, thrilling, and does not have those korean drama typical tropes. :)

Yay, I'm happy for her. I first saw her in Joseon Gunman in which she left a great impression and then it was a pleasant surprise to see her in a modern role in Healer. ^^

I first saw her in 2014 movie 'The Taste of Curry'. It's a very sweet and simple movie, with a memorable song 'Malaika'. And I also remember her face since then.

She was actually pretty stiff in Healer but I've always had a soft spot for her since X-Man. Hope she does well :)

Looking forward to this one. I did notice her in the Healer finale. Despite the relatively minor role, it was memorable.
