Hong Jong-hyun courted to be Yoochun’s rival in Sensory Couple

There’s new casting development for SBS’s new supernatural drama Sensory Couple, though sadly not for a leading lady — Kim Ji-won turned out not to be in the running to star after all, which breaks my heart. I don’t know why a drama that was once called Girl Who Sees Smells can’t manage to cast a girl, but I’ll hold out hope that it’s taking extra time because they want to cast someone awesome. Right? In the meantime, Yoochun (Three Days) is still in talks to headline the series, and Hong Jong-hyun (Mama, Dating Agency Cyrano) has now been offered a role as the second lead.
The webtoon adaption comes from the writer of Rooftop Prince and the PD of Pumpkin Flower Innocence, and tells the story of a young man and woman who are both entangled in a three-year-old case called the Barcode Murder. The hero loses his little sister and many of his sensory abilities, and later becomes a cop, while the heroine survives the same incident and gains hyper-senses. Her particular ability is that she can see smells, and as a side-effect of the trauma, she also loses her memories of the events.
Hong Jong-hyun is considering a role as Yoochun’s rival, an executive at a gaming company. The character is quick to smile and always very sunny, mostly because he grew up in the best of circumstances and has nothing to be upset about. He’s kind to everyone and knows how to compromise when he works, and he’s even humble to boot. He can’t be this perfect — what’s his deep dark secret?
His company is the talk of the mobile gaming world, and five years ago he was returning to Korea and fell in love with a flight attendant at first sight. That sets us up for the love triangle, between the cop hero who’s trying to solve a murder case and protect our heroine at the same time, and the wealthy gaming exec who’s been searching for her all these years. I just hope they give Hong Jong-hyun’s character a quirk or two, because too perfect is boring. The murder mystery, romance, and supernatural angle could make this a really fun show, so let’s all cross our fingers for the right smell-seeing heroine to come along and make everything click into place.
Sensory Couple follows Hyde, Jekyll, Me on Wednesdays and Thursdays in April.

I'll ask this question again: why it took them so long to finish the casting process? I mean, Park Yoochun is still not confirmed yet, we still have no idea who's going to be the heroine, Hong Jong Hyun also still in talks. Like seriously? The plot intrigued me tho, looking forward to this.

the reason is SBS new rule: casting popular stars and who cares about the plot. And look at how their dramas have turned out during the last year or so. Thus, now every actor/actress is super caution before signing with them, or else, a rating boom in his/her resume

But honestly, last year, most of all korean tv channel experienced the same thing: poor on ratings. Not just SBS.
Anyway, although Hyde Jeckyl is flopping, but at least Punch managed to stay #1 on Mon Tues slot. But I do agree, SBS needs to put more attention on plot because Hyde Jeckyl proved that casting popular stars aren't enough to win viewers attention.

god that drama was pure torture to watch, by the time I got to the CGI gorilla scene I wanted to break my screen but kept watching for binnie cuz "hmm maybe it'll get better hyunbin can surely get me through this".Bad bad idea the more I kept watching the more I wished I would get get hit by a near by get amnesia so that I wouldn't have that traumatic viewing experience embedded in my brain.

Yeeii first time I'm not envious of a korean fan xD, what would I do if I couldn't read english??, since the moment I discovered this site is my favorite.
It's to sad when a drama is not being recap it on dramabeans and the watching experience is not the same, I particularly love the way Javabeans and Girlfriday writes but I'm thankful to all the people working on recaps because the work is wonderful and I love to read you guys.
There are times I don't know what show I should watch next and this site is always of much help.
I'm getting emotional (Healer's fault) but I'm so happy to know that even koreans can sense de feelings and insightful thoughts you put in those recaps. Thank you guys.

Fingers crossed that whoever SBS gets for the female lead is a good actress.
Somehow I'm having trouble picturing Hong Jong-hyun as quick to smile - literally all the roles I've seen him in have been dour, laconic types, even the comedies (Vampire Idol).

why does the story line and characters of the sensory couple is almost similar to the Blademan staring LDW that was shown last year.
the good thing about sensory couple is that is directly based on a webtoon , therefore , its from an original story .
so , the blademan writer must have seen it and twisted and matched and turn up and down, left , to right then whooola !!! Blademan !!! hihih

It's too bad that Kim Ji Won rejected it since I think she might fit the female lead image, and if she's casted it will increase probability of me checking out this drama.
I hope whoever will be casted as the female lead will be a good and fitting one.

The story doesn't make sense to me. In the articles, the heroine's age is clearly stated to be 22. If the flight attendant in question was the heroine, she would have been 17 (Korean age) at the time... I'm betting that in drama land you could do a triple coronary bypass at that age but you probably couldn't be a flight attendant. So I'm thinking that the flight attendant is a different person. Which is fine by me as anything that minimizes second lead antics is a plus in my book.
P.S. This fetus as a gaming executive? Oh lawd.

hmm.. yoo chun and hong jong hyun? well, 2 pretty boys in a drama is not a bad deal. tho i'm still skeptical of jong hyun's acting abilities after that mini drama he did with Kara's Seung Yeon. Didn't watch any of his drama after that, but hopefully he is able to pull it in this drama tho.

My usual run down list of who should be lead if it's not Kim Ji Won (sadface).
Kang Sora, Lee Yubi, Jung So Min, Park Eun Bin, Han Groo and Im Joo Eun. Early there's not a shortage of talented young twentysomethings, so please cast one of them as our heroine. :) And if the wanted a singer-actor, there's always IU.
I also wouldn't mind Park Ha Sun because she was so awkwardly cute with Yoochun in Three Days that it left me wanting more. But the reunion seems unlikely for now.

If they're planning on sticking with idol-actresses, I want IU for the part. Plus, she's hugely popular right now. And she'll look beyond adorable with Park Yoochun.
As for Hong Jong-hyun...at least I know I won't be getting second lead syndrome. He just comes off so cold.

On another note I vote that park yoo chun gets taken off this project I don't like his acting or find him hot.probably won't happen but I'd be happy like when I found out that kim ji won won't be starring in this drama afterall.cuz cmon we all know that she'd look a lot better with and have more chemistry with hong jong hyun.Would be awesome if yura somehow landed the lead role and jong hyun had to pretend he was in love with her,oh how torturous that would be for him haha.

I vote for PYC to turn down this offer too but not because of he's not that HOT like your oppa but I wish him to focus on movie only..coz yes, to avoid kyaagirls in dramaland who wants to see hot oppa with bare skin, six pack etc..etc.. without focus on plot & acting..so meh
Yuchun, better find another project like Haemoo please..for me the more ugly/dark character u show to us the more I found it hot..hahaha

Way to completely gloss over the "I don't like his acting" part and only focus on the latter half of my comment. I love your judgmental assumption of what I watch a drama for btw all because I'm not a fan of your oppar who to be honest is a mediocre actor,sorry I know it must be hard to hear.No I will not watch a drama soley for a "hot oppa" if I'm not interested In the plot. That is why I never watched "when a man loves" or "heirs" no matter how hot I find song seung heon and kim woo bin to be. Lastly Not a fan of hong jong hyun even though he's attractive to me I'm not a fan of his acting either and YES I would also protest if he was the main actor. Take your butthurt fangirl attitude somewhere else.

^^ So disagree. Maybe I'm getting old and boring, but I usually love the too-perfect second leads. A girl can dream, can't she? And what better to dream about than a handsome, rich, too-perfect guy who adores me to distraction!?
