Choi Jin-hyuk turns vampire next for Japanese movie

Add Choi Jin-hyuk (Pride and Prejudice) to the ever-growing list of fictional vampires, as he’s just confirmed taking a role in a movie called Love♡Vampire (yes, the heart is apparently part of the title, though I don’t know how it’s meant to be pronounced).
Vampires in dramaland has been a trend in recent years — we’ve had vampire prosecutors, idols, and now surgeons — but maybe this doesn’t quite fit into the trend since the movie is Japanese, and touting itself as a global project. Casting is drawing from multiple nations, with Japanese actress Kiritani Mirei and idol-actor Totsuka Shota headlining, as well as Hong Kong star Ekin Cheng and Taiwan’s Summer Meng.
The vampire-human love story of Love♡Vampire centers around a woman vampire who has lived as an ordinary human—well, as ordinary as you can given that whole bloodlust-and-eternal-life bit. She works as a baker, and one day reconnects with her childhood friend and first love, at which point she begins to dream in earnest of living as a normal human being. Ekin Chen will play a vampire boss, while Choi Jin-hyuk plays his underling. He said of this role, “When I received the script, I was reminded of Gu Wol-ryung from Gu Family Book. Because I’d done some acting with superpowers and transformations with Gu Wol-ryung, I though it wouldn’t be too difficult to do a vampire.”
Looks like Choi’s trying to squeeze in as much work before army duty calls him away — not that I blame him since, as a 1986-er, that clock’s tickin’ away, sadly. Unless we’re talking about waiting for oppas to be released in which case, damn if time isn’t painfully slow.

Uhmmmm, I really wouldn't mind seeing him playing another dark and broody long haired (aka sexy) supernatural being again. I liked him as Gu Wol Ryung. - Maybe a wee bit too much.

Darth Gumiho is my favourite Choi Jin-hyuk role, hands down.
I'm down with the vampire role if it involves that same hair and eye makeup
(but seriously, he needs to go to the military already! I'm starting to get worried and I'm not even a particular fan of his)

Aw... I'm so gonna miss him!! I'm the type of person who watches behind the scenes clips, and I was watching his latest drama Pride and Prejudice's BTS, and he seemed really kind and sweet.... Gonna miss him!!! Fighting!~

I have only seen him in "the heirs" and he was ok, but what's the story with the army enlistment, do all SK males have to enlist before they're 30? No exemption for celebs even? That's interesting, I thought enlistment is a voluntary act!
I'm curious who's due next, I heard it's JCW and LSG, is Lee Min Ho also enlisting? He's a 87er.

There's a whole lot more enlisting: Joo Won, Jung Il-woo, Yoo Ah-in, Yoochun, Jaejoong, Jang Geun-seok, Seo In-gook. I think I'm missing a few more and did not even mention idols who aren't popular actors. We are full of 86-87 actors with Kim Soo-hyun, Lee Jong-suk, Kim Woo-bin and Taecyeon to follow just a year or two later. Its going to be a little lonely without them =(

@javabeans, I just wanna point out that he filmed this movie in 2014, not 2015. It's only being released now in 2015 of April.
but I agree, even if he was squeezing in a new role before his enlistment, I have no problem with it either, as it's his career. just as long as it doesn't affect or delay his enlistment. Do what you gotta do, Oppa.

The Japanese are fond of stylization so I think the heart (♡) is there just because lol. :D It's not actually part of how you pronounce the title. It isn't too uncommon to see random symbols in Japanese films/anime/manga titles.
Examples (anime): Lovely☆Complex, Steins;Gate
I'm not so sure about how this film will turn out, but seeing Kiritani Mirei's name in there caught my attention. CJH though, man, does he even have any time left before enlisting?

Ha! My will triumphs once again, as the sheer force of my desire makes this the Asian Year of the Vampire. (Aren't you glad I use that power for good instead of evil? ;)
Now I need more haunted house dramas and Kwon Hyun Sang in a really funny romantic comedy written by the Marriage, not Dating crew. ::closes eyes & wishes REALLY hard::

Did anybody finish Pride and Prejudice? I really wanted to like it, but it was kind of a snoozefest. The relationship btw the two leads just never seemed to work (and at times bordered on coercive and creepy) and the plot somehow managed to both be too convoluted and well, just maybe kinda dumb. At least as far as I got (maybe episode 15 or so?). Maybe it all came together in the end. He's pretty enough that I'll probably eventually watch the rest of it.

It did come together in the end, but you're right, those episodes right in the middle were going in circles (15 and 16 really didn't go anywhere). And the show never stopped being very, very film noir. So viewers who don't like noir were annoyed by the ending, which leaves lots of questions open. I love film noir, though, and I thought the ending was great. It was definitely not a typical K-drama in any way. With another actor I don't know if I would have cared, but CJH had me totally on board for every last moment of angsty brooding about the nature of justice. Going to miss him terribly while he's in the army!
