Yeon Woo-jin and Jo Yeo-jung pair up in new rom-com

Contracts aren’t finalized, but it looks like we’ll be getting a new romantic pairing between Yeon Woo-jin (Marriage Not Dating) and Jo Yeo-jung (Haeundae Lovers), who are looking favorably at the SBS weekend drama Divorce Lawyer in Love. First of all, I’m glad that Yeon Woo-jin is getting some recognition for his comedic acting and getting leading roles on the major networks — Marriage Not Dating certainly sealed his capabilities on that front. Jo Yeo-jung hasn’t done a drama since the disappointing Haeundae Lovers in 2012, but she can be really winsome in romantic comedies, so I’m hopeful that they’ll be good, as long as they have some chemistry.

Divorce Lawyer in Love comes from a new screenwriter who won an open scriptwriting competition at SBS with this story, and the second PD of 49 Days will be directing. Jo Yeo-jung stars as a divorce attorney with zero scruples — she’ll stop at nothing to win, and basically treats everyone around her like crap, especially her office manager, played by Yeon Woo-jin. He’s no prince either, since he takes to pointing out every mistake right to her face, ignoring the fact that she’s his boss.

They drive each other crazy and part ways because they can’t stand to work together, only to reunite some years later. In the interim, Yeon Woo-jin has gone to law school and become a divorce lawyer himself, and Jo Yeo-jung has gotten her license suspended for misconduct. So at his new firm, she shows up as his new office manager, and has to suffer every terrible thing she did to him in the past. I find this premise quite satisfying, karmically.

And of course, because this is a drama, all that bickering leads to love. I’m sure they’ll both have a healthy dose of cynicism about romance too, given that they’re dealing with broken relationships day in and day out; but the flip-flopping of job titles adds a fun dimension to the whole thing. I can sense lots of pride-squishing pettiness ahead, though hopefully of the fun lighthearted variety. Given SBS’s tone over the last year with their weekend fare, I think that’s exactly what we can expect.

Divorce Lawyer in Love follows The Family Is Coming on Saturdays and Sundays in March.

Lol I just googled the actor's name to make sure I got the right person. He so doesn't look like his Marriage Not Dating character! Happy to see that he's back though.

Same here! Totally unrecognizable in that picture. He's a lot paler usually. Loved him since Ojakgyo Brothers too. Happy for him!! Found the female actress so annoying in I Need Romance that I couldnt watch it

I noticed that in Marriage not Dating, they somehow made him look much paler than he actually is. You can see the difference if you compared how he looked in the drama with how he looked in the behind the scenes shoots (significantly browner), or with how he looks in magazine photoshoots. I remember a photo I saw of him recently, which was the first time I realized that he has an adorable scattering of freckles. I thought it was a shame that they used make-up and lighting and whatever to conceal/camouflage his perceived "imperfections" in MND, because I think he's so much more attractive when he's less washed out. I think the lighting in that drama did a great disservice to his marvelous bone structure too.

Gong Ki-tae!!!!

Aw, it will be hard to see him without Joo Jang-mi, BUT I'm so looking forward to this. Finally, some casting news to get excited about.

I love him in comedy and this role seems pretty perfect for him. In fact, the whole setup between the leads sounds great, if executed well. I also like Jo Yeo-jung, although my experience with her is limited. She seems like a good fit for the role though and they seem like they'd have good chemistry. I reallllllly hope it's good.

AAAHHHH MY KI TAE!!!! I miss you. :) It's nice to hear YWJ being offered in major role by major networks because he deserves it. here's to hoping i wouldnt have a hard time watching this (if he confirms) because i could not get over his role as KT in MND. That drama is included in my top 5 btw. :)

And Han Groo, hope she gets a major role too in one of the big three, anyway I'm sure she is.

The plot is actually interesting, let's see what happens from here.

Omg and if this means he might come on Running Man like Han Groo did recently, that would be so great! I remember thinking him to be super charming and mischievous in the MnD BTS.

I like the pairing alot. Nice to see Yeon Woo Jin in another rom com so soon after MND :'). I have adored him since Ojakgyo Brothers and he totally deserves leading man status. I like Jo Yeo Jung too, though I think I've only seen her in I Need Romance.

The premise sounds pretty fun, sounds a little bit like Can't Lose (where Yoon Sang Hyun and Choi Ji Woo played divorce lawyers in love).

I hope this show will only be 16 episodes though. Idk why, but dramas (miniseries specifically) seem to be getting longer and longer these days?

I'm not sure why this reminds me of the Lawyer Kim-Soo Kyung dynamic in Let's Eat

Now this is one guy who deserves the chance to move into Big 3 leading man status....and I do like Jo Yeo-jung a lot even if I hated hated HATED Haeundae Lovers.

(now for Han Groo to score a break too.....come on, drama/movie gods! Reward a girl with actual talent for once!)

YAY! 'Bout time the big three snapped him up. I even like the premise which is more than I can say for a lot of rom-coms this early in the game. I like Jo Yeo-jung a lot more than I like her roles. Her character and the main romance in INR grated after a while, and I bailed on Haeundae Lovers pretty early. So for all our sakes I hope this turns out well. The time slot makes me a little skittish though.

YAY for Yeo Woo-jin!! I can't think of anyone more deserving to be promoted to network leading man status. I hope there's tons of chemistry like he had with Han Groo because I like the premise! It sounds fun and major ego clashes are one of my most favourite things in dramaland.

*excited*

Jo Yeo-Jung is a great actress but gets type casted into a "sexy" roles with sex scenes all the time. Glad she's found a "safer" role this time because she has serious acting chops!

Oooh! I like.
He's such a little hottie. I know that is an overused expression, but of all the little hotties out there, he is especially charming.
He's the guy at the party nobody pays attention to, but when he approaches you, you suddenly get all flustered when he makes eye contact. Then you think, where did THIS one come from?

Finally, a leading role again! I've been loving Yeon Woojin since his playboy cutie role in Ojakgyo, and I love where things are going.

Does SBS still stick to their no-makjang rule even though Feel Good Day was a failure? I do hope so, because this premise seems fresh.
