Wang Ji-won to join cast of Divorce Lawyer in Love
by javabeans
Divorce Lawyer in Love is slated to be a March drama, so it’s ramping up pre-production, starting with the cast: After confirming Jo Yeo-jung (Haeundae Lovers) as the lead and courting Yeon Woo-jin (Marriage Not Dating), they’re looking to cast second leads, and Wang Ji-won is the first name to be added to the list. Her casting isn’t finalized yet but she has acknowledged being in the final stages of negotiations, so I expect this to come through.
Wang Ji-won has had a pretty quick increase in visibility, with I Need Romance 3, Fated To Love You, and now (probably) Divorce Lawyer in Love coming in quick succession. The drama’s title tells you the main idea at a glance, but what has me more interested is the reversed-places element where the heroine was once a terrible boss to the hero (when she was the lawyer and he the office manager), then finds herself in his old position years later when he’s the attorney. He gets to enjoy a little petty revenge at her expense — gotta love those karma’s-a-bitch storylines, especially when they lead to funny, sweet romances.
Wang Ji-won’s character sounds pretty typical of the genre (and her past roles); she’ll play a lawyer who knows how to use her wiles to her advantage, who’s also the hero’s ex-girlfriend. I hope she’s more than the standard second lead complication, because right now I don’t know Wang Ji-won as anything but that, and thus don’t really know how I feel about her acting. At least on the upside, the main couple sounds like a hoot, with Jo Yeo-jung’s heroine in particular standing out as a tenacious, super-motivated lawyer (whose zeal gets the better of her, because her license gets suspended). So it’ll be fun just for the sparks that fly when she and the hero meet again and the tables are turned.
Divorce Lawyer in Love will be an SBS weekend drama, scheduled for 20 episode, premiering in March.

I think she has potential. Especially in I Need Romance 3. Too bad she always get stuck in itch bay territory. ?

I really like her, glad she's getting cast in this drama, which sounds pretty cute. Hope she will get bigger roles in the future though, instead of always getting typecast as the EX.

Seconded! I loved her in that, and enjoyed her in INR3 too. I thought she did well with what she had in FTLY, a much more sympathetic character than in the AWFUL Taiwanese original. I'm still hoping to see her get a lead soon though, and can only hope this Drama helps in that direction.

Aww, I really like Wang Ji-won. She always brings a little something more to her roles that regular second leads don't. I hope this means that someday she'll start getting lead roles. She's so very capable and talented. If Yeo Woo-jin and her accepts, I'll definitely be tuning in!

She is so so so good in fated to love you. Her acting is just so subtle and natural. That i'm surprised she is still hasn't long enough in acting industry. She is also really pretty and tall.

Wow, so many TvN alums in this show - INR, INR3 and Marriage Not Dating. It's nice to see them getting bigger breaks. This show really doesn't interest me but I do like all of those actors and I would like to watch them in something together...but it's a weekend drama so I will probably hate it. I'll still give it a try though.

Before last year she was in Good Doctor.
She was the youngest of the pediatric doctors, stood in the background for the most part, and had about one line per episode, usually when they were in the Subway, or eating their Subway sandwiches.
I liked her.

Honestly, she was just okay in FTLY. FTLY was a Jang Hyuk + Jang Nara show. She really didn't have the opportunity to shine. I fault the scriptwriter though. I think even playing a typical 2nd lead in this drama is good in the sense that she'll get more screen time. Hopefully.

I'm happy Wang Ji Won is in another drama. I really like her too. I hope that she will get the lead in a drama soon. Her casting just adds to any drama she is in.

I see potential in her! I actually liked her in FATED TO LOVE YOU but her character could've been better written. It's all good though. Wishing her the best! May have to give this a try! ;)
