Grandpas Over Flowers plans next season in Jordan
by girlfriday
Yay, the halbaes are coming back! It’s been nearly a year since travel variety show Grandpas Over Flowers aired its last trip in March 2014, but rumblings are afoot for a Season 3 headed to tvN this spring. Technically it would be their fourth trip after Paris, Taiwan, and Spain, and though producers are being careful to leave all options open, rumors are that Jordan is the next destination. I wonder if Misaeng had anything to do with that; they did make it look adventurous and exotic. Or is it that even halbaes think they’re Jang Geu-rae too?
Naturally, the original cast will return (otherwise they’d have an uproar on their hands). Halbaes Lee Soon-jae, Shin Gu, Park Geun-hyung, and Baek Il-sub, along with Luggage Boy Lee Seo-jin will be reuniting, with tentative plans to head out for a trip sometime in February.
PD Na Young-seok released a statement that Grandpas is still in early planning stages, and that Three Meals a Day: Fishing Village is his current priority. That’s putting it mildly, given the recent change-up that took Jang Geun-seok away and brought Sohn Ho-joon in to replace him, leading to a week’s delay in premiering the show to edit Jang Geun-seok out.
Given that Seo-jinnie has to eventually return to the farm for the spring season of Three Meals a Day, I don’t know how they’re going to squeeze in another Grandpas trip. It cracks me up that Na PD has managed to book Lee Seo-jin pretty much year-round for variety shows, when all he does is complain that he doesn’t want to be there.
Lucky for us, Seo-jinnie’s grumpy protests never stopped Na PD from getting him on a plane (or anyone else for that matter). The plan is to shoot a new season of Grandpas Over Flowers in February and air by the spring.

LOL! And here, my biggest wonder is: so how did Na PD fool him into this? "Oh, yeah, the new three meals a day this time is a little far from Seoul... it's allllllllllll the way in Jordan."
Or is there no fooling since the plan was revealed so early? *sad*

Jordan? a weird choice since Etihad sponsors this season, i would think UAE (i.e:Abu Dhabi) is their destination.

Most of the Over-Flowers trips have been booked in ex-caliphate states.
It think players in the region are pouring a lot of money into TvN to promote their influence and image. (And sometimes done in a way that's shockingly divisive.)

Lol, I love how Seojinie has basically invented a completely new approach to variety shows. While everyone on variety shows strives to be funny by giving exaggerated reaction, Seojinie just does the complete opposite and it turns out that doing nothing can be ridiculously appealing.

Jordan's fine right now. It's not like they're going to Syria. Jordan is boring however, so...

If you want exciting they could go to one of these places.
They might be too old to handle it though.

That'd be hilarious. Particularly with LSJ's I don't care (but I'll be certain to be the best at everything) persona.

Jordan has great historic sites. Petra being one of the best known. It's no war-zone and far form boring. I'd rather have them visit a country like Jordan than a place in the UAE.

Jordan has been maintained as an independent and open society. As a result, it's been distant from the conflict that's engulfed the surrounding nations.

I'm wondering did they choose Jordan because of the Misaeng effect? Hahaha guess I'm still not over that drama. Excited to see all the Halbaes and Seo Jinnie again!

Yay! I hope that means there's a possibility for another Youth Over Flowers trip too. (The younger ones, although the middle aged group was fun too.)

I hope one day they can resume Noonan over flowers too. It had a different charm. I wonder who will replace Ja Ok.

I agree with you. The Noona's do have different vibe from 'all men' trips, they have this certain angle. I'm very sorry when i hear about KJO. Never know her much before Noona over Flower, except in Coffe Prince. I am grateful to have a chance to know her more in NoF. Gonna miss her...

It would be amazing, but if that ever happens, they better make one ASAP or change the luggage boy (since he'll need to go ... for two years :'( )

Aww mister dimples is back! ?
actually i never aware of Seo-jin before this show.
I'm fond of his personality in the variety shows. Thou he's grumply all the time, but you can see his tender care to the others. Less fake, i guess. ?

YAYYYYY!! They're back!
It definitely looks like it might be connected with Misaeng (maybe it was part of a package deal?) - tvN's really building connections in this region - Are they planning to use it more as a filming location? Anyhow, hooray for spreading diplomacy through kdramas!
It would be funny if it turned out the halbaes had fans in Jordan who were waiting for them to visit!
Thanks for the great new, GF!
