K-drama remakes announced for In Time With You, Chinese Style Divorce
by javabeans
Well, the remake trend surely isn’t going away, and two more overseas properties have been snapped up for Korean drama remakes: Taiwanese drama In Time With You and Chinese series Chinese Style Divorce. Both will be produced by I Will Media, as announced by the production house on December 22, and are looking at recent Taiwanese-drama-remake success stories Fated To Love You and Witch’s Romance to hopefully set them up for another hit remake.
In Time With You told the story of a hero and heroine who were longtime friends on the cusp of turning 30 who eventually came to realize their feelings for each other. The timing had always worked against them as they’d dated other people, and their romantic developments were told in a realistic, poignant way that made the drama a popular hit when it aired in 2011. Writing the Korean remake will be Min Hyo-jung, whose credits include Hallyu hit Full House (itself an adaptation from a manhwa) and Attic Cat (both of which, incidentally, helped spark the trend of cohabitation rom-coms in dramaland).
Chinese Style Divorce is an older title, dating back to 2004, and was itself an adaptation of a Chinese novel; the writer of the book, Wang Hai Ling, also scripted the television series. The well-received show was a human drama that dealt with the inner lives, conflicts, and emotional struggles of its main characters, examining contemporary Chinese society and issues through stories of marriage and divorce.
The two projects are still in early production stages so no casting news is afoot, and both are big enough titles that we can expect a certain amount of interest and scrutiny in how the remakes will turn out. This kind of buzz so often doesn’t end well, but I suppose there are enough times when the new version does a creditable job that hope remains everlasting. For instance, Cantabile Tomorrow suffered from constant comparisons to its original series, but Fated To Love You pulled out a pretty solid remake earlier this year. Personally I prefer when the remake is allowed to slide under the radar—as with Liar Game and Witch’s Romance managed—which gives it a chance to pleasantly surprise us.
The production company behind the two remakes was responsible for JTBC’s medical drama Syndrome (which underperformed its expectations), MBC’s weekend drama Would You Give Love Away (which was modestly successful), the melodrama When a Man Loves (which I could have done without), and KBS’s currently running daily Sweet Lie (which seems to be doing okay). That’s a pretty wide spread so I’m not quite sure to expect; we’ll have to see how the end product turns out, I suppose. Both dramas are aiming for broadcast runs in the latter half of 2015.

GOODNESS ME!! Everyone, please catch In Time With You!!
This series is really really good, makes your heart wrench and pangs go off in your heart in every episode when they tell the story.
Realistic and poignant; very brilliant way to describe it because its really true. Tells off how we, normal people live in, living our lives away and some loves we would never get to chase back once we miss the chance.
One of the remarkably all time favourite taiwanese drama , In Time With You.
I will definitely catch the korean series. I believe, there are some poignant korean style realistic stories to tell as well, just like answer me 1994 (the hasuk stories, relates so well because i lived in hasuks before).
most importantly, the leads must have amazing chemistry to carry on the story because the main point is the conversations between the leads. The conversations are actually just about the normal conversations in life, but what makes it poignant is that we all have/ used to have that kind of good guy friend in our life having that kind of conversations.
NO idols please, no.

YES!!!
I loved the simple realistic touches like how Cheng You Qing spent her day off/night watching dvds and Li Da Ren was intervening between his mother and sister. Such a great show.

yay! I super love that drama! I hope they will make the same room of Ariel Lin. That floor that it seems that there's a big hole in the middle! or it could be other Ariel Lin's movie/drama.

I remember watching Chinese Style Divorce back around 2005. It was very realistic in the way that it dealt with the everyday man and woman and the trials that are faced by ordinary ppl in their marriages i.e. the importance of communication and how over time a marriage can be worn down. hope the korean version is able to translate it over without making it makjang finding good actors!!!

I wasn't very happy with Witch's Romance & FTLY, so I gotta say I'm not really looking forward to this :/ I feel like it's too easy to Kdramatize ITWY and turn it into a generic rom-com. I hope they'll go for a tone that's more similar to Reply 1997 when it comes to this storyline

I poo-pooed Taiwanese dramas until I saw "In Time With You." Li Da-ren was the best friend/boyfriend ever! I hope the remake does it justice!

ITWY is pretty much the perfect taiwanese drama. The korean one will depend on the chemistry of the cast and the script adaption. Although I hope people will also still check out the taiwanese version.

ITWY is pretty much one of the best dramas ever. Even the music was excellently paired with the show.

I wouldn't mind Moon Chae Won and Song Joongki for this remake - provided SJK will be back in time when they're about to cast people for this.

In Time With You was one of those "lightning nevre strikes twice" occurrences - everything about it just worked, and the result is magic. The idea of a remake is hideous, the idea of a remake written by the same person guilty of the obnoxiously ghastly pile of steaming awfulness that was Full House just makes me want to retch.

Looking forward for the korean version of In Time with You. You might as well make a korean versions of the following:
- Autumn Concerto and LOVING, NEVER FORGETTING (Jerry Yan's highly recommended drama)

i think MOON CHAE WON could really pull of Ariel's Cheng You Qing... as for my dearest Li Da Ren, I'm hoping that Song Joong Ki could play that part.. but since it's just too early for their reunion... SO JI SUB/ GONG YOO could also nail it...
just pls don't ruin ITWY...

I'm not a fun of Full House and I can't remember watching Attic Cat also. This fact is my biggest worry. I hope the people behind the scene of this "possible" remakes will be as daebak as the Misaeng crew.
About the casting, I read comments such as:
You Qing as Han Groo (NO), Kang Sora (Yes, with potential), Moon Chae Won (YES), Jun Ji Hyun (No - I don't have a problem with her acting but hmmm)
Li Da Ren as Yeo Yoon Seok (NO - can't see LDR in him), Gong Yoo (NO - he kinda give the 9e2o boy-friend vibes not LDR), Lee Seung Gi (NO), Sung Joon (no)
I'm thinking of Yoo Ah In (hmm), Han Seung Yool (hahaha - sorry but the hair style is just so similar. I know I don't know if he can pull off a quite role)

If ever they will cast Sung Joon as Li Da Ren, I hope that Jung So Min will be You Qing. :) :)
I don't like Ariel Lin before ITWY. I don't think she's a good actress just because ISWAK and TKA are popular dramas (but really, I hate her as that annoying character. I dropped the dramas, anyway). BUT, I saw a new side of her as I watch ITWY, and I really hope, if ever, this will also happen for Jung So Min.
Isn't Jung So Min played as K-counterpart of Ariel Lin in k-version of ISWAK? Well!

NOOO!!!!!!!!!
'In Time With You' is one of the best shows of all time. It was so beautiful. The chemistry between the two leads was excellent and their journey was heartbreaking.
Li Da Ren suffering in silence was so moving. So many scenes - the birthday dinner, the fringe play, their many conversations. I have never seen a show capture how beautiful real love would hope to be.
What I hope is that there is a Taiwanese sequel to 'In Time with You' which shows their lives going forward.
I'll watch the Korean remake out of curiosity for one or two episodes, but I sincerely doubt it will come close to the greatness of "In Time With You".
