Heart to Heart’s blushing romance kicks off this week
by girlfriday
I can’t believe January shows are already starting, but the drama machine waits for no one. First up in the new year is Heart to Heart, the new Friday-Saturday romantic comedy headed to tvN. It stars Choi Kang-hee (Level 7 Civil Servant) as a woman who blushes uncontrollably (and therefore hates attention) and Chun Jung-myung (Reset) as an attention-starved psychiatrist who helps heal her.
More importantly, he’s the one person she doesn’t blush in front of, which seems like an important point — it’s a little bit like Master’s Sun where one guy happens to be the heroine’s perfect anti-matter curse-negating zone for whatever reason, allowing her to let her guard down around him. PD Lee Yoon-jung (Coffee Prince) and the cast gathered for the show’s press conference on December 30, where they teased the light, feel-good “healing romance” to come.
Choi Kang-hee said, “I got a lot of offers to act over the last year, but I became afraid of acting and found it difficult, so I couldn’t choose a project. I took a break because of that, and it wasn’t easy to gather the courage to return. I didn’t want to play the same characters over again. I thought of PD Lee Yoon-jung at times — doing that short miniseries [Beating Heart (2005)] with her was my happiest time. Because the script had her name on it, I chose this project.”
Chun Jung-myung said about his costar Choi Kang-hee, “She’s one of the most considerate actresses I’ve ever met. When it comes to chemistry, it’s Choi Kang-hee. Noona is like an onion. Every time I go to set, I peel and peel and peel, and I see a new side of her. She’s so fun.” About his role, Chun said, “His puffed-up arrogance is his charm. [Lee Jae-yoon’s character] is gentle, while I get to do whatever I want.”
Second lead Lee Jae-yoon (Gold Rainbow) is, on the other hand, a character who’s nursing a seven-year crush on the heroine. He’s a detective and she likes him back, but feels like she can’t date because of her inability to hide her emotions. Chun Jung-myung sets out to help her with that, and she discovers that she strangely doesn’t blush around him. Wonder Girls’ Ahn So-hee rounds out the cast as the hero’s little sister, an aspiring actress who can’t act.
Choi Kang-hee’s character hides herself away by dressing as a grandma (stills below), and she said about the transformation: “The grandma makeup takes about four hours to do. I think it’s a big advantage. Whenever I’ve done miniseries in the past, I don’t get to sleep, but [while they’re doing the makeup] I can’t move my eyes, ears, or hands, so I get plenty of sleep.”
PD Lee Yoon-jung said about the drama, “It’s a story about loving yourself. [Choi Kang-hee] and [Chun Jung-myung] meet and heal each other, and learn to love themselves. It’s about loving your own shortcomings and loving each other, through which you start to love yourself. I would like it to be a drama where you watch while laughing, and then suddenly get choked up and cry.”
Heart to Heart premieres this Friday, January 2.

"an aspiring actress who can’t act"
I hope that character description doesn't reflect on the actress.

Sohee used to be a singer who can't sing...
but she has improved! and her acting seems not bad from the reviews of her past works.

Sohee has been acting since long before. First a little apparition in a movie when she was 13. then a movie right at her debut as idol (2007). She was trainee as an actress. She has always aimed to be acting. She isn't pro yet but she's had some little roles already and so far, she did well for all of them. in 2012 she had a role in special 1-ep drama Happy Rose Day (it's on youtube, subbed). As for Heart to Heart, she has appeared on teasers already, you can judge for yourself. I think she seems to be doing well.

Having finally, over Christmas, marathoned What's Up, Fox?, I'm going to give this a try purely for Chun Jung-myung, because I want to see him being a cutie-pie in something else. So cute! Too cute!

Speaking of Master's Sun, I don't remember but was it explained in the drama why she doesn't see the ghosts or why they dissapear when she touches the guy?

I vaguely remember it was because he didn't believe ghosts exist...not entirely sure though.
Good question.

I don't mind not being told "reasons" in a drama, as long as it is consistent. I mean, if you learn that a character sees ghosts, except when she's touching a specific item/person/area--then I can accept that as a drama fact.
So I don't mind (or remember) if we weren't told the reason. Because it stayed consistent throughout that pretend world.
It's when truths shift- or change, depending on the episode that I get annoyed.
(And I'm trying to think of examples, but I can't at this moment. I may add some later in the day, after I wake up. I'm up now to say good-bye to a "home for Christmas" son who left early to drive back to college, so I'm a little weepy.)

I like the PD's take on the drama! Choi Kang-hee's comic timing is great. CJM is adorable as always.
Well, may this be the beginning of another great year of dramas...amirite.

If only they had someone who could act instead of Choi Kang-hee I'd almost be inclined to think this is 2015's MND. It looks good yet cliched and the writer-PD seems to be really going for the fun rom-com elements.
Too bad even if it were great, I can't tolerate CKH. The last time I saw her was in the horribly horrible Level 7. She was as bad as the drama was so definitely a pass for me.

Maybe it was the drama (level 7) rather than the actress - personally did not see it. I thought she was great in "Protect the Boss." Like someone else said, her comic timing is great. Should be a good role for her actually!

First things first, what is choi kang hee wearing??? I don't know about this woman, really
Second, how tragic is it for the second lead to like the heroine and to be liked back but held back because of such reason
Third, I'm only going to check this out because I like the second leads, Sohee and Lee Jae Yoon

I think this drama could be a sleeper hit. I mean it could catch us off guard as it is a slice of life story. And can I tell you how muc I loved the poster of Choi Kang Hee and Chung Jung Myung together, sitting on that pile of books :) I wish I could understand what was written in that voice bubble over his head.
And seeing PD Lee Yoon Jung after a long while reminds of Coffee Prince. I hope she still has that contagious laughter of hers :D
Can't wait for it to air :)
