Also, I had real troubles and anxiety voting this year. Why were there so many cute couples?? I had to vote against someone I loved every single time. LOL.

Shin Sung Rok is going to win Best Villain regardless, am I right? (Seriously, I still have nightmares about the nail ring.)

These polls are always so hard, to me.

I think I found myself voting for Miss Korea in categories where it wasn't necessarily my favorite because in my mind it still has the best written drama women ever. Sure the men suffered at times because of the excellence of the women but they were never the point so ultimately it didn't matter.

I agree. I voted for it a lot when the category for me was a toss up between two or more characters. That show was soooo underrated, and it's sad because it was one of the better written shows of the year.

Here I am rethinking the drama because I watched the first 30 mins and gave up on it. I may have to give it another try...

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

I gave it up after the pageants started because I couldn't take her posture and attitude. She walked out like a whipped dog with her tail between her legs and no matter what is going on i think a pageant contestant would remember her posture. That is so basic. They didn't have to broadcast some stuff physically. I just couldn't believe she could get very far walking like that. But there were definitely scenes I loved in the beginning. Waikiki for instance. Just wished they had kept the over done debt out of it, or not wound it so tight. There was plenty of tension and drama going on with the pageant without the threat of organs being removed.

Oooo, thanks so much! Hilarious one-liners!

Aw, I was a little bummed that the Crown Couple wasn't nominated! They were one of my favorites this year, BUT they have next year to make it on there (and they'll actually be a real couple!). AND it doesn't really matter because Joo Jang-mi and Gong Ki-tae (so happy his flabby abs were included!!) get my vote regardless :) A little bummed there wasn't a chance to vote on Yeon Woo-jin's performance along with Han Groo's because I enjoyed him just as much as her.

I was surprised to see Pinnochio make such a strong splash already! And, surprisingly, You from Another Star didn't get any votes from me although I was certainly tempted at certain points. All in all, it didn't end up being a personal favorite although I do adore Cheon Song-yi.

LASTLY. DUDE. Let's Eat! I understand there are a lot of dramas and it's impossible to include/even remember them all AND, at the end of the day, I'm just grateful that you guys took the time to do this in the first place. But I was majorly bummed to see Let's Eat completely missing, as it was a personal favorite of mine. Doo-joon deserved a best character nod! And the romance was actually one of my favorites! I got so into it at some points...that I would actually lost some interest in YFAS. Ahhhh, it's just...even Sweden Laundry was included. Obviously, this is a minor gripe though. I love you guys!

Required fields are marked *

I think it's funny that although most of you voted for YFAS in just about everything, it's also winning in the most overrated drama. Um, well, blame yourselves for that. I loved it too but it was so not the best drama of the year, it just got the most exposure and had a great actress in it. If you haven't watched all these dramas, how do you know which one is best? (And a lot of these haven't even ended yet, so it's crazy to vote for something you currently like that may pull a 'God's Gift' ending on you. There's no coming back from that.)

People who don't usually comment might be voting as well. There also may be some type of campaign for it on a YFAS fan forum.

Perhaps it's because the poll is for FAVOURITE and not BEST drama? So, it's very personally subjective and not measured against any 'technical' consideration like writing, directing, cinematography, character, plot etc. :-D

No "Hotel King" on these lists?

We should just cross off "Blade Man" and put "Hotel King" instead.

Though it's pretty clear that IOIL doesnt really loved by DB's readers.... sadly because it's my best kdrama of the year (for almost all department) I just wish that IOIL's casts will get some deserve accolade on editor picks later.

I'm a little sad BIRTH OF A BEAUTY didn't make it on the best drama list at all, over other dramas like She's So Loveable, etc. I thought it was surprisingly enjoyable, and it's generally solid on all three fronts: editing/directing/writing.

Also agreed on the ensemble comments above! Would love to see that as a category because some dramas are definitely made by the cuteness of the ensemble.

I'm really really liking Pride and Prejudice right now, and I'm a little sad that DB isn't recapping it because I want to share the awesomeness with the community. Although it's doing well in terms of ratings, I still feel like it's pretty underrated here.

But wow, what a year for dramas. It's funny how, for me, the best dramas were either from the beginning of the year or from right now, near the end of the year. xD In no particular order, they were:

I Need Romance 3
You From Another Star
Empress Ki
Pride and Prejudice
Pinocchio
Bad Guys

For It's Okay, That's Love and Marriage Not Dating, it's funny because I loved the dramas during their airing, but now when I think back on it, I think it was really just the actors/actresses that I loved.

Bride of the Century is pretty underrated too. It's my second favourite Hongki drama, after You're Beautiful.

Anyways, here's to hoping for an even more awesome 2015. :)

Ah and how could I forget Fated to Love You?! Oh that's right, because it suddenly went from AMAZING to eh in the end. I didn't watch this version because I had trouble with the lead actor's crazy laugh and antics but I did see the Taiwanese version and I remember not really watching the last episodes carefully in that version. It is a problem that may go back to the source material--but it would have been nice if they had fixed whatever is wrong for this version. I was thinking of trying again at some point to watch it because I read so many raves but we'll see.

Haha I guess Gun's laugh is not for everyone. xD

I actually attempted to watch the TW version a few years ago, but couldn't get through the first few episodes... The guy was just way too much of a jerk and the girl had no spine. It wasn't even that she's overly nice, but she was just too much of a doormat in the beginning that it made me angry. So I really couldn't wait it out and imagine myself cheering for the couple. But what made me fall in love with this version is that Gun had a sense of righteousness and duty, he wasn't just some jerky chaebol, and Mi Young knew she's too nice and was trying to better herself. It doesn't help that I love the two actors, so I stuck around.

I would definitely encourage you to stick through the first half, then perhaps just watch the last episode, haha.

Fated To Love You:

Same indigestion with Jang-hyuk's delivery of Gun at the beginning, kept FForwarding. Also the Tversion by Ethan Ruan was fairly memorable.

But was won over by the middle when the depth regarding their loss was way too realistically heartwrenchingly portrayed (esp Jang NR) to ignore.

Waste of rich chocolate voice Choi Jin-hyuk though.

I was disappointed by so many dramas this year...the only ones I really liked so far were Plus Nine Boys (Kim Young-kwang was adorable, okay?), Liar Game, and Bad Guys. Modern Farmer is pretty funny as well, if rather over-the-top. On the upside, I really loved those few, so I guess it's okay xD And I haven't started Misaeng yet, so there's that to look forward to...hoping it's as good as everyone seems to think.

They talk to each other to resolve their problems and misunderstand (say what?!), they support each other EQUALLY, and (semi-spoiler alert) he finds a way to like both her new and old looks and they have a thoughtful discussion about love and appearances. If I can get my husband to watch this with me, I can get everyone else already on dramabeans to watch it to. PLEASE WATCH THIS REFRESHING DRAMA!!!

Overrated doesn't necessarily mean something is bad. But that show has definitely been put on a very high pedestal - it's gushed about so much that I put off watching it for a long time because I was worried that I'd be disappointed since expectations had been built so high. (I'm in the middle of it right now and I'm enjoying it for the moment so I'm not saying anything against it.)

Required fields are marked *

I'm in the US, and frankly, most stuff on the TV here is superficial junk compared to Kdramas. I suspect some US producers took a quick look at what was currently trending and decided, 'hey, we can't think of anything original ourselves, let's just copy that...' There are so many more very high quality Kdramas from past years that could have been examined for a US flavor makeover. Producers here are lazy.

This year was really slow in terms of good dramas. My favourites; YFAS - which was all sorts of amazing and fantastic. I usually don't get the hype for most popular dramas, but this one deserves it all and more. It was just an intelligent drama that knew what to do with their premise instead of dusting it under a rug. I love love love the ending as well! This one's fairytale in motion.

Marriage, Not Dating was another great drama. I've praised it so much in the recaps, so I won't rehash but it was so unexpectedly good. It made up for the lack of a Hong Sisters drama this year.

Biggest waste of Talent: Undoubtedly, Rain. SSH was just so bad with even worse acting all around - I just stuck through it all for Rain. He was the only one who knew what he was doing (and slaying with his emotional depth) and it made everyone look like utter fails. Still can't believe he chose SSL for his drama comeback, but at the very least, he's gotten even more Hallyu star power - I'm surprised that's possible!- and is now getting paid so much for what is essentially his debut in Chinese drama market. It's almost worth going through the crap that is SSL... almost.

Break out performance: Han Groo. No elaboration needed whatsoever.

Favourite character: Cheon Song-yi. Again, self explanatory.

We should've had a best reunion category though! That would've been apt in a year where most leads worked together. My favourite: Jang Nara and Jang Hyuk. Even if FTLY ended up eating my brain in the second half and I dropped it because I just couldn't process anyone's thought process, the chemistry never diminished. They were amongst the best couples dramaland gave us this year.

YFAS - I'm a fan. Unashamedly so. Enjoyed it lots.

And Gianna Jun's Cheon Song-yi, that's what I'm taking away from YFAS. She's funny, she's haughty, she's poignantly romantic and she can still make me cry. Just rewatched the last two episodes and teared-up again at the meteorite-watching-balcony-goodbye and CSY missing DMJ while readying for the awards, scenes. Heh.

And I loved IOIL, BOTC and My Spring Days and enjoyed Marriage Not Dating.

And currently loving Pride and Prejudice and What's With This Family. :-D

Favorites that enthralled me and/or made me happy:

Misaeng
Sly & Single Again
Yoona's Street
High School King (<3333)
Miss Korea
Marriage, Not Dating

I have not had a chance to finish It's Okay, It's Love and I want to do so before the poll close. I'm not really into it right now but I want to give it a chance!

Right now, I'd say High School King was my favorite because it just made me so happy and I was just sucked into the universe. I loved so many of the characters and it was just a special drama for me.
