Park Min-woo scores first big-screen role opposite Moon Chae-won, Yoo Yeon-seok
by girlfriday
Aw, adorable dimple-faced Park Min-woo (Modern Farmer, Flower Grandpa Investigation Unit) has steadily built up his resume after debuting as the sunny bully Ba-wool in 2011’s Flower Boy Ramyun Shop, and he’s just secured his first film role. He’ll be making his big-screen debut in That One Day (or The Mood That Day), a romance road movie starring Moon Chae-won (Good Doctor) and Yoo Yeon-seok (Answer Me 1994).
The movie from relative newbie director Jo Kyu-jang is about a woman and a man who meet on the KTX — the train that connects Seoul to southern seaside city Busan — and follows the curious feelings that emerge from the chance encounter. The movie chronicles their day together, a full 24 hours, and is described as a Before Sunrise-esque romance set in Busan.
Park Min-woo joins the cast as Yoo Yeon-seok’s school hoobae, a star basketball player. Since the movie is so much about the central couple meeting on the train, I don’t think the supporting cast will be featured heavily. But we’re clearly going to get more character backstory than in a movie like Before Sunrise, since funny character actor Jo Jae-yoon (the sweet gangster in Liar Game) was also cast. He plays Yoo Yeon-seok’s coworker and office sunbae in the movie.
Moon Chae-won and Yoo Yeon-seok each have a string of new movies that I’m looking forward to: Moon Chae-won has the rom-com Today’s Romance with Lee Seung-gi (and Lee Seo-jin), and the short The Day Min-woo Arrives with Go Soo. Yoo Yeon-seok has the fusion historical movie Tailors with Han Seok-kyu, Go Soo, and Park Shin-hye, and the hilarious-sounding body-swap comedy Beauty Inside opposite Han Hyo-joo, Lee Jin-wook, and Park Seo-joon. Phew, apparently sleep is overrated? And that applies to Park Min-woo too, who’s currently shooting his zany rockers-become-farmers drama Modern Farmer, not to mention his variety show Roommate Season 2.
I don’t know how they’re going to manage it, but That One Day’s first shoots will begin before the year is out, for a 2015 release.

Aw, good for him. I felt bad for Min Woo when he was portrayed in a bit of a dismal light in Roommate s1 but I'm glad that hasn't affected his career in any way.

@ Caitlyn:
I felt the same way. I agree with you totally. I felt like they always portrayed him as been a little jealous and insecure whenever he spoke his mind. I hope he gets more air time on Roommate season 2.

@Renee,
Unfortunately that hasn't happened for him in Roommate S2! Especially because most the newer casts are more extroverted/attention-grabbing (or seeking, depending on how one looks at them) so he's just dulled to the background and appears in large group scenes where he's more or less forgotten. I feel really bad for him, and not to compare them to rehash old wounds but even Kang Joon, despite being rather quiet himself, gets more screen time. I do wonder if it's a stage presence aura thing though, which is more prominent in some people more than others.

Ack sorry not to go off tangent with the topic at hand. I forgot to add that I'm therefore happy for him that he's gotten a role in this movie! Even though it's a side character, hopefully it'll be memorable enough. Hoping he'll get his major break soon, if not with this show!

I'm happy for him. He is a good actor and I love his hyuk on modern farmer. I think he's faded into the background a bit because of the filming of his latest drama - modern farmer - which has a grueling schedule.
I'm happy for Min Woo.

I remember the Roommate episode where Dong-wook took him out to the backyard and basiclly told him to chill, Poor Min-woo said in effect that he realized the show did more for him than he did for the show. I nearly cried that he felt that way. But alas! it's true - his darling mug is now getting more screen time in big productions than ever, so it all worked out. You go get 'em, Min-woo! FBRS was only the beginning!

Totally agree! I was sooo angry on Min Woo's behalf when they did that. And just kept doing it.
As @owl said: "Go get 'em, Min Woo!" *Fighting!!*

Road movies are my favourite, and this cast is gold! I am happy for Park Min-woo, the cutest dimply boy on the block.
I'd rather for such good actors to film movies then dramas non stop, I imagine the work conditions are way better.

That's great! Park Min-Woo is one of my favorite younger actors who play supporting roles lately. Yoon Hyun-Min is another one. I really look forward to seeing them lead in their own films/dramas some day but for now, they make every production they're in so much better. I think a great story has to have really interesting side characters. Right now there are so many fantastic actresses and actors playing supporting roles that I'm enjoying their screen time as much and sometimes more than the leads'. This movie sounds fun. I love stories set in the seaside and countryside areas!

Glad for him...hated how he was getting edited in season 1 of Roommates. Since he was the person who got along with everyone they used him a tool on the show for conflict

Yeah I was so pissed off that Roommate really made him out to be some kind of jealous and insecure person, I know what variety shows are all about and knew that the producers will use all kinds of tricks to make the show interesting, they really wanted to build some kind of rivalry between him and Kang Joon, it also might be the fact that out of all the young guys in the show the producers thought that Min Woo might be the safe choice to be sacrificed for the show to get more interesting, as we all know Chanyeol and Kang Joon has bigger and crazier fanbase and they will get massive backlash for it if they try to edit them in such a way, I felt really sorry for him, honestly I'm very happy that he's getting projects after projects, first Modern Farmer and now this movie, side character or not he's still young so it's a big boost for him to be recognised enough by drama and movie directors alike that they chose to cast him over others actors like him, he will get a lot of respect later on if he ends up getting a lead role in the future because everybody will know he started from scratch, I hope he takes inspiration from his upcoming co star and senior Yoo Yeon Seok or Jung Woo, both of them used to be bit part actors playing any kind of characters they were given, now look at both of them.

I'm glad too that he got through that tough period, and is being rewarded/recognised more.
I think it shows that S1 was poorly planned to begin with, since there's no real activities planned for the housemates by the production team - if they'd gotten a bunch of crazy extroverts like Park Joon Hyung and Gook Ju to begin with, then maybe they wouldn't have had to make a big deal about (non-existent) conflicts and rivalries to begin with.
Even though Min Woo's less prominent in S2 (ah, his busy schedule is a double-edged blessing for us viewers!), I think he's holding his own and is game enough to try anything with the new roommates.

I'm a big fan of Richard Linklater's Before trilogy: films where the characters are as important as the plot, and that's filled with witty (even snarky), philosophical, and thoughtful dialogues.
So I get how the Before trilogy is inspirational. It should be. It's a better trilogy than The Godfather.
But so far the premise of That One Day IS Before Sunrise. That's unsettling. Inspiration doesn't have to look like imitation. I hope that the film diverges a bit (the addition of Park Min-Woo helps since Before Sunrise literally had no other characters aside from the two leads).
Besides, Yoo Yeon-seok has my little heart in his clutches so I'm paying attention to this movie regardless.

that is great! I´ll definitely cheer him on, cause he seems like such a sweet guy. Maybe too good for the industry. If I ever needed a roommate, he would really be the best ever.

Love all three. Great pairing of Moon Chae Won and Chilbongie :)
Glad that Min Woo is getting more opportunities as well. Which reminds me, I still haven't checked out his farmer drama. Is it any good? Premise sounded a bit iffy :/

I remember Yoo Yeon Seok said in an interview somewhere that he can't fathom just taking a break and doing nothing. He just wants to keep himself working and occupied. Even while filming Answer Me 1994 he was concurrently attending classes for his masters. Such a workaholic!

Really looking forward to this movie. MCW is one of the best actresses I've ever seen in her age-range (Princess' Man, War of the Arrows, Nice Guy), and I loved YYS in Reply 1994. Casting them together in a movie? The most formidable OTP of 2015 has been formed. I love PMW too, happy that he's finally enjoying positive publicity and attention.

i feel so bad for him in roommate. he is hardly ever shown and just seems to be in the background. i grew quite attached to him in s1, so seeing him like this , and often so sad was hard to watch. but i'm really happy that he's getting more roles. i hope this one really makes people see his awesomeness. and of course you can never go wrong with yys :)
