Park Bo-young, Lee Kwang-soo, Lee Chun-hee headline Mutant
by javabeans
I’m not quite sure whether this movie is going to be light, serious, or mysterious, but in any case a movie called Mutant is sure going to capture my attention. And with this casting, I’m hoping that the mutant idea is executed skillfully, as the project has now tapped Park Bo-young (Wolf Boy), Lee Kwang-soo (It’s Okay, It’s Love) and Lee Chun-hee (Dating Agency Cyrano) to lead.
In the story, Lee Chun-hee plays a graduate of a university from the sticks who aspires to become a reporter. He hears of a strange internet story that claims that a girl’s boyfriend transforms into a fish, and sets out to find the truth behind it. Lee Kwang-soo is the fish-boy, and Park Bo-young plays the girl who writes about his story online and thus gets called “Fish Girl.”
When you tell me Kwang-soo is playing a part-fish, part-man character I’m going to immediately laugh at the image, but the project won’t be comedic; rather, it’s described as being a social critique, which puts me much more in the mind of The Host. Of course, in that movie the mutant wasn’t the protagonist, but it did open the door for some social commentary that didn’t feel too heavy-handed since the character relationships and action sequences carried the film.
The director, Kwon Oh-gwang, only has several shorts under his belt, but he did pick up an award at Cannes last year in the short film competition category for one that he wrote, titled Safe. Mutant will begin shooting next week.

I wish this movie would be a huge hit.
Then the PDs will make another one where the Wolf Boy who used to be friends with the Fish Boy fight over Park Bo Young.

I find the casting of Park Bo Young with Lee Kwang Soo as GF-BF weird because there's a great difference in height between them. A taller actress may be better.

Height difference doesn't make a couple weird...in fact....it's more adorable that way!

Well how about they look for a shorter actor, they'd have better luck in that than the other way around...js.

I actually find couples with a tall guy plus a small girl really cute and adorable. And besides it's Park Bo Young so how cute can it be.

OMG kwangsoo become a fish boy. If it's not comedy, it will be a great challenge for him to try not to make people laugh in serious scene. He's normally a funny guy and add with fish-boy character how can it be serious XD. Btw fish guy? like full fish not half like mermaid? interesting.
Btw park bo young when will you come to dramaland?

But don't you think that Lee Kwang Soo does serious roles well? He is very good at combining comedy with pathos. If he had more conventional good looks, I am sure that he would be playing romantic leads.

Oh My Gee...
It is a hard choice..
Is it 2 Kwang Soo in a movie.. Or should I said 2 Chunderella in a movie? hahaha..
I hope this is a darker movie that can potray the other side of KwangSoo. Tho IOIL have proven that he can brush aside his RM persona I really hope this movie can do justice on his ability as an actor *one that can take variety of characters.*

This project funded by the same people that fund movie Choi Woo Sik Set Me Free. They give grant to young and upcoming director.
Somehow the plot remind me of one of the bizarre Clazziquai music videos. Or another singer.

Same here but I'm hoping for a more meaty serious lead role for Kwang Soo. He showed he had the makings for a serious romantic lead in his few scenes with the abused
girl in Bachelor's Vegetable Store. He is deserving of the lead in a good rom-com.

This is right up my alley. Hope it achieves the desired effect. Although now I want to see the funny version in which Lee Kwang-soo is a merman (with a fish-head of course). It can be the male version of Aquamarine.
Hee Park Bo-young is ending up with an interesting assortment of lovers under her belt huh? More power to her. Chunderella, come back to dramaland!

The two idiots of variety shows come together in a movie? You expect me to believe it's not a comedy? But seriously, how they'll make him into a fish boy raises my curiosity.

The comedic relief from FO and RM, but these 2 have acting talent which doesn't quite coincide w/ their variety personas.

If you guys haven't seen Kwangsoo in "It's Ok, That's Love" and especially in "Confession", you haven't seen Kwangsoo's acting chops. In Confession he was heartbreakingly good and his performance seriously made me remember that above an entertainer and a funny guy on Running Man, he's an actor. And imo he's better than SJH as well, Kwangsoo has improved a LOT

He has been a very good actor for many years, except that his talent has only been recently noticed. Take for instance this Star Golden Bell 2009 segment. He is tasked to mime a character facing 2 different situations and he is SO SPOT-ON: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAQLQKy_4fY
Been fond of his acting chops ever since. The hairstyle? Not so much. :D

Omg, this is so funny. I JUST rewatched her first episode on Running Man (a personal favorite of mine). Now I'm praying that they'll have both Song Joong-ki and Park Bo-young guest when he gets back from army! They could create a whole episode about the Battle of Fish Boy and Wolf Boy LOL.

There was a Disney movie years ago called "The Amazing Mr.Limpet" that was also a man turns fish comedy. Let's just hope the Giraffe has gotten better at swimming - he almost drowned off the Australian RM shipwreck site, diving with Bi.
