Yoo Seung-ho and Go Ara courted for Joseon-era romance

Oh, is Yoo Seung-ho (I Miss You, Arang and the Magistrate) already looking at army comeback projects? That was fast. I do love the early signs of an actor’s return from army duty — the movie and drama offers start rolling in, and fans can start counting down the days until he’ll be back onscreen. There will probably be many more offers for Yoo Seung-ho before confirmations are announced, but he’s considering the historical film Joseon Magician as his first post-army project, and Go Ara (You’re All Surrounded) is being courted as his leading lady.

If they sign on, they’ll play love interests in the period film by director Kim Dae-seung of The Concubine, Blood Rain, and Bungee Jumping. The project is described as a romance melodrama, and the story takes place in Joseon, where a princess gets shipped off to Qing as a bride. On her way there, she runs into a circus troupe and meets a young magician, and they fall in love.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a romance between a princess and a circus magician, but I guess the important thing is that it’s forbidden young love. If they really play up the youthful romance set against the backdrop of dire political stakes, I can see it being emotionally fraught and moving, as long as the actors have some chemistry with one another.

They’re only three years apart in age, which surprised me, but I guess I’ll have to stop thinking of Yoo Seung-ho as a baby now. Sniff, sniff… wait… this isn’t a bad thing, is it? Well, they do make one disarmingly beautiful couple, I’ll give them that. Yoo Seung-ho will be discharged from active duty in December, and once it secures a cast, Joseon Magician will start filming early in the new year.

Well a very compelling pairing, but am not into period dramas at the moment, will see if that changes in the new year.

Time really flies! Can't believe it's almost time for YSH to be discharged. Am also really pleased to see Go Ara getting some meaty roles after AM 1994. You're All Surrounded was an OK vehicle for her, the last 5 episodes or so let her down somewhat.

They do make a very pretty couple. Gosh...angst....i dont like angsty dramas but if Yoo Seung Ho is in it......sigh.....i'll just get the tissues ready. And Go Ara....damn that girl is really growing on me since Reply 1994.

I could see them as beautiful couple onscreen.
Yoo Seung Ho, I miss you!!
On the other hand, I think this will be better as romcom, don't you think? I could picturing Go Ara as hilarious reluctant princess and YSH as handsome, charming magician from Joseon and they will elope together.. hehe

I could never see why they called him Little So Ji-sub earlier since I never saw any resemblance between them except when they smile, but here....dead ringer all right!

It blows my mind that he was actually closer in age to the child stars of I Miss You (Kim So-hyun and Yeo Jin-gu) than to his adult co-stars Yoon Eun-hye and Yoochun.

Yeah, his last drama only just wrapped early this year, and we likely won't see him until 2016 :(

Even Song Joong-ki, who left much much sooner, won't be returning until next summer. To think we have even longer to wait for Yoon...*SOB*

I personally though Go Ara was wasted in You're All Surrounded since that was as male-driven drama as you get this year - maybe excluding a few. But this seems like a good project for her and I love the premise! Its not conventional and the Joseon Era setup makes it even more interesting.

YSH isn't my favourite but he's a really solid actor. I think they'll have good chemistry so I hope they both sign in. I'd be excited for this as much as I am for the YYS-LJW-PSJ movie coming up. And thats saying a lot!

Wow, what a coincidence. I have "cast" both Yoo Seung-ho and Go Ara in my next k-toon--available soon on DramaFever. And (another coincidence) it is a historical drama. Go Ara is the Princess and Yoo Seung-ho is the bad guy's bad son. I love him, but I figured he could play a villain as well as the lead. And I had already given the male lead to Song Joong Ki. (I know he's still in the military, but that is the advantage to toon K-dramas and/or fan fiction. You can cast whoever you want to.)

Nobody else is wishing Kim Yoo Jung would take the female lead??!!! How has this not been mentioned yet? Or is there something I'm missing here? Am a bit behind entertainment world news here...

Go Ara feels like a person who really MIGHT run away with the circus. I wouldn´t be surprised to see her as a magicians assistant or doing tricks on an elephant. why not.
now I know why is has been feeling no drama has enough spunk. after YAAS there is no one who is such a fireball.

hope it won´t be too melo, though I can´t imagine how it could be with such setup

YSH is not a baby any more! Hooray army.
I can just picture them together as a princess and magician, though I am crossing my fingers it will be more GA and YSh being cute than a group of old men around a table plotting and plotting schemes...

I screamed internally when I saw this (don't mind me). Those two are some of my favorite actors, and I had just been asking myself if Ara was going to take on another project soon. I hope they accept the offer, it seems like an interesting premise. Crossing my fingers.

love love yoo seung ho and as much as I hated that dreadful drama "I miss you" I only kept watching for him. Anyway
not really a fan of the pairing to be honest since I don't really like go ara but she's not intolerable I guess but regardless I don't think they would be a great couple.
I'm hoping she rejects this role and lee yoo bi or jung so min
take the role instead, hmm or maybe park bo young??haha I'm just throwing out names but yeah I think he would have much better chemistry with either of them plus they have more acting chops.

I would looooove a Yoo Seung-ho & Jung So-min pairing. That would be amazing.

But Go-ara is preferable to, say, Park Shin-hye in the 'young (increasingly) marketable actress who's charming but lacks versatility and depth' category; I think she's growing and developing, so I'm not too disappointed about her taking on this role.

But yeah, you always want the talented So-min, Lee Yoo-bi, and Park Bo-young over their less talented peers. Unfortunately, Lee Yoo-bi and So-min have yet to get their breakout roles (for some stupid reason) and aren't seen as bankable leading ladies, and Park Bo-young chooses not to work that frequently.

If those chumps at the networks can take a chance on shitty nugu actresses like Jin Se Yeon (seriously, she is so bad) and Go Sung Hee......then there is NOTHING stopping them from casting Yoo Bi, So Min or Kim Ji Won or even Han Groo as Yoo Seung Ho's leading lady.

Well, there's always the rumor that actresses like Jin Se-yeon are "sponsored," which is why they keep inexplicably getting these lead female roles on the big networks.

Either that or her daddy is a mob boss who somehow has KBS and SBS (but especially KBS) by the family jewels, which explains the former bending over backwards for her re: Age of Feeling/Dr Stranger despite her agency being constantly caught out in lies.

Go Sung-hee is apparently a graduate of the Sungyunkwan University acting department, so I suspect there may have been some university alumnae helping her castings.

But when newbie actresses who aren't popular (no Park Shin-hye-style child stardom) and don't show any evidence of acting talent (and are from random agencies to boot, not the well-known ones like Sidus, KeyEast, Fantagio, Namoo Actors etc.) manage to land female lead roles opposite some of the hottest young talent around, a little suspicion is in order.

Yoo Seungho baby is coming back. :) So excited.

The plot of the movie seems like the type of movies I like, so I'd be looking out for the final cut.

Already getting love calls and not even out yet. If this couple is being confirmed i really hope the political conflict isn't just brushed aside and hastily wrapped up in the end like in most dramas.
P.S Go Ara is a radiating goddess in that photo :)

Love to watch them both. I think they will have good chemistry. That's what I said: already? about YSH completing his army duties. Now, the movie/drama world is his oyster and I hope he just keeps growing. He's a dead ringer for SJS alright but that's fine with me because I love them both:)

so excited Yoo Seung Ho is coming back. I started adoring him in I miss you. Despite of his young age he is very mature. He is very good actor. He and Go Asa would make an ideal couple. Counting the days Yoo Seung Ho would be back.
