Running Man: Episode 218
by gummimochi
You are cordially invited to the Running Man Concours, where the music is beautiful, the competition is fierce, and pure talent can only get you so far. Surviving the musical world in a house full of prodigies is no easy task, especially when that competition our players have been preparing for suddenly goes from happy-go-lucky to downright thrill-tastic.
The mystery of this score will have you on the edge of your seat and keep you guessing until its final, lasting note.
EPISODE 218. Broadcast on October 26, 2014.
On a bright fall day in Suwon, helicopters and police vans descend upon the performing arts building. Guns raised, office swarm inside in droves, and orders their target to come out with their hands up.
In order to learn how we got here, we rewind to meet our cast and today’s guests, who are all musical prodigies: Kwang-soo is a brilliant violinist whose passionate performance sways the emotions of passersby (and himself, ha), Ji-hyo engages in a fiery piano battle against our first guest Kim Ji-hoon (Jang Bori Is Here!), who says he took up piano instead of hitting the gym lately. Hahaha.
Cellist Kookie groans in frustration that his musical tone isn’t as perfect as his muscles, opera singer Jae-suk belts out in song for harpist Oh Yeon-seo (Jang Bori Is Here!) — though his rendition of “O Sole Mio” blends into Jekyll & Hyde’s “This is the Moment.” I’ll accept his “Eyes, Nose, Lips” parody anytime instead, thank you.
Last but not least is our last opera singer, Jung Eun-ji (Trot Lovers), whose actual angelic voice we’re robbed of. She doesn’t have to sing classical for us—just let her sing!
Our musical prodigies are invited to the 1st Running Man Music Concours, which brings us back to the performing arts center. Ji-hoon really has a 4D personality (read: oddball) and Ji-hyo points that he’s constantly distracted.
Time to break the bad news: their application forms haven’t been accepted yet. “Why would you call over a busy man like myself?” Kwang-soo asks, astounded. Their first game will put them on the right track, though; here, they’ll need to repeat the music they hear within ten attempts by playing the instruments above them with their heads. Suk-jin: “Everyone’s got perfect pitch, right?”
What a great mission… if only Jae-suk could jump high enough to reach the giant piano. Suk-jin hilariously blackens the key by accident, and Kwang-soo can of course, reach the keys with his tall height.
The others conclude it works when hitting it makes a sound, but then Ji-hoon tries it out and catches the staff members playing the notes on the keyboard off-camera. Hahaha, I love it when they break the magic like that.
They hear the song, and whoa, Eun-ji identifies the notes readily. Does she have perfect pitch? Kwang-soo is in awe when he’s told to man both ‘do’ notes, but it’s the most frequently occuring note and he’s the tallest.
After failing the first attempt thanks to Haha’s off-beat drumming, the musical prodigies agree to strip down whoever screws up next. It happens again, so they strip Haha of his socks and shoes, and Gary calls out: “How come you’re so short now?” Aw.
Percussionist Suk-jin doesn’t fare much better, but Ji-hoon gets pretty far before missing his beat. He gets stripped down too, and what should they find but shoe lifts. They’re pretty high, and Haha laughs, “Even I don’t wear lifts that high!”
When Suk-jin messes up on their fifth attempt, he’s stripped of his trousers, too. At least he gets the cumberbund back? On their eighth attempt, they nearly get through to the end, but then Kwang-soo rushes and hits his head on the wrong note.
So he gets stripped too, and Suk-jin does the courtesy of taking off a sock, crying out: “Look at me!”
Now they’re down to their tenth and final attempt, and the group takes their time running through the song. This time, they succed, only to learn that seven of them have been accepted. The other three (Ji-hyo, Yeon-seo, and Eun-ji) must find the blank application forms and fill it out within ten minutes.
So while the ladies search the building, the guys remain behind to practice. Suk-jin can’t help but wonder if the women have a separate mission, but not long afterwards, the speakers announce Eun-ji’s elimination. Huh?
Ji-hyo retuns with her application form, but she doesn’t know why Eun-ji was eliminated. Could it have been Yeon-seo? But Yeon-seo returns with a bright smile on her face—she doesn’t know what happened to Eun-ji, either.
Something’s definitely fishy, and Suk-jin claims Eun-ji was the one behind it all. Just then, the speakers announce their mission: attach the photos taken with the polaroid cameras to the application forms in order to participate in the concours. Eun-ji’s attacker is also still at large, so it’s up to them to gather enough hints and report the culprit.
However, if they wrongly accuse someone, they themselves will be eliminated. No one can trust one another, though Gary believes the true culprit is among them. Suk-jin’s convinced that Eun-ji isn’t eliminated but probably off pursuing her own secret mission.
Ji-hoon keeps trailing behind Ji-hyo like a lost puppy, and she asks him outright whether he was given a secret mission himself earlier this morning. He evades the question, which has Ji-hyo slowly back away.
Kwang-soo belatedly remembers that they have to find Eun-ji’s attacker as well, and he’s convinced it must be either Yeon-seo or Ji-hyo. Yeon-seo insists she isn’t at fault—in fact she loves mysteries and believes the one who seems least likely to be the culprit is guilty.
Haha stumbles upon a camera, then plays it cool in front of Kwang-soo and Gary. Too bad that Gary snatches it first, and the others try to wrestle it away from him. Or rather tickle it out of his hands.
Soon it’s a circus as everyone tries to get their hands on the camera, but it’s Kwang-soo’s picture that gets taken. Or so they think because Jae-suk’s face appears. Unfortunately, Jae-suk needs a sans glasses pic to qualify.
Yeon-seo pulls her former co-star aside to ask what the guys were doing while the ladies were away. Ji-hoon hadn’t thought to check whether anyone left momentarily, and entertains the notions that someone could have acted suspiciously… like Kwang-soo hiding around the corner. Heheh.
Ji-hoon comes up with this elaborate explanation that Eun-ji eliminated herself and that there’s another A Pink member here. Sounding hopeful, Ji-hoon wonders, “Sohn Na-eun?” Kwang-soo: “You sure you just don’t like Na-eun?”
Suk-jin has this unnerving feeling that someone’s going to sneak up on him and eliminate him. And who should come up behind him but Jae-suk, who quickly covers his mouth and curiously asks, “You’re curious as to how Eun-ji disappeared, aren’t you?” Ack, was it you?
…then he uncovers Suk-jin’s mouth: “I’m curious, too.” Oh man, it was a joke? Orrr was it?
Jae-suk then walks past a clue entirely, so when Jong-kook picks it up after him, we’re left wondering whether Jae-suk didn’t notice or pretended not to. It’s suspect, but soon Jong-kook and Haha are left alone to figure out the music sheet to “Love’s Fireworks.”
Haha spots the candles nearby, so he lights them, and they carefully hold the paper to the light. And as it burns, text appears. Whoa, that’s cool. The lyrics: My heart’s a firestarter / Your life is quite strange
But then Jong-kook realizes that the first character in each word spells out: “The culprit is among you.” Whhhattt.
Outside, Ji-hoon tries his best to protect his camera from the Easy Brothers, though the camera takes the shot anyway. At least he discovers another clue: a casette player, which has no batteries or cord. The tape itself reads “Park Sang-min’s fifth album: ‘Road That’s Not a Road.'” Ji-hoon: “Is it telling me that this isn’t a road? Did I come the wrong way?”
Ji-hyo discovers a scribble on the board and curiously, some of it is erasable. What’s left is the word “single.”
Next, Ji-hyo discovers a list and realizes that they correlate to seat numbers. So it’s back to the auditorium where she has yet another ephipany. She pores over a seating chart, and I must say I’m pretty impressed by how the staff has laid out the clues this time.
Whatever Ji-hyo has realized, we don’t get to know because the speakers soon announce her elimination. The announcement leaves everyone confused, anxious, or suspicious—Ji-hoon wonders if the three ladies planned it all out.
Jae-suk dives into the dramatics and declares war against the culprit—it’s a battle between them now. Suk-jin doesn’t buy into the act, and asks Jae-suk if he’s playing Sherlock. Jae-suk: “You could be Watson.” Suk-jin: “…Sounds good.” Hahaha.
Yoo Sherlock and Ji Watson deduce that the culprit must be either Yeon-seo, Kwang-soo, or Eun-ji. I love how you can hear the staff burst into laughter.
While Jong-kook and Yeon-seo snap their sel-cas for their applications, Ji-hoon shares his secret with Kwang-soo. Dude, bad idea—Kwang-soo’s going to use that info against you the first chance he gets. Have you learned nothing about this show?
Ji-woon wonders, “If it’s a ‘road that’s not a road [gil],’ then is it Gary?” Hahaha, like Gil and Gary of LeeSsang?
Speaking of whom, Gary finds a camera for himself, then it’s back to Ji-hoon and Kwang-soo who rewind the cassette manually. Noting the measurements on the tape, Ji-hoon realizes that the tape itself is intended to be used as a ruler. Now that’s smart.
Gary is busy filling out his application when the door opens… and the screen goes black. Next thing we know, Gary’s out of the game.
Now everyone is on edge, and some wonder whether the ones who have taken their sel-cas are targets. It wouldn’t be like Gary to file a false report either, and Yeon-seo mentions that Gary tried to rip her nametag off as a joke…
… and just as she says that Haha creeps up behind her. Yeon-seo whips around, and her instinctively raised hand almost hits him. Still frightened, Haha wonders if she’s being too protective about her nametag, but she argues that tearing it off would mean their own elimination.
Jae-suk is back in the auditorium; he notices a new music sheet, and starts to play the piano. He soon discovers that there are numbers next to the keys: 0021. He reads the other clue on the piano (“greenroom”) and runs.
Yeon-seo thinks the culprit is tearing off nametags, so Ji-hoon starts to jokingly tear hers off. What’s important is that they need to work together to figure out the clues left behind, and Yeon-seo shares a picture of kids playing in a playground.
Ji-hoon wonders if the number of people in the picture is of importance, and cites that Yeon-seo loves mysteries. Well, murder mystery-thrillers. Ha. Just then, Kwang-soo spots a violin in the image. But… Kwang-soo is the violinist…
Kwang-soo immediately takes off, screaming his innocence behind him: “I’m not the culprit!” He gets cornered anyway, and Yeon-seo wonders why he ran if he’s innocent.
Then she entertains another possibility: a cello? Why that would mean Jong-kook. Kwang-soo insists that he saw his own instrument, but then Yeon-seo walks off on her own. Kwang-soo asks if Ji-hoon doesn’t believe him. Ji-hoon: “I don’t know what you are.” Kwang-soo: “I’m simply a violin prodigy!”
“You’re an idiot 99% of the time, but then you’re a genius 1% of the time. That’s what scares me.” Ji-hoon continues. Kwang-soo: “I’m the 99% today.”
Jae-suk runs to the greenroom, only to find it locked. He tries a couple of combinations before gaining access, and finds Eun-ji’s nametag along with what looks like a violin string.
Elsewhere, Suk-jin can’t shake off the ominous feeling haunting him. He opens a door and…
… the speakers announce his elimination. Suspicions run high, and Jae-suk hears footsteps approaching. There’s a furious knocking at the door, and soon Jae-suk is eliminated, too.
Now only five remain, and Haha declares in front of the cameras that he’ll be mad at Jong-kook for two weeks if the culprit turns out to be him. So Haha and Jong-kook pass the phone back-and-forth to each other, encouraging the other person to report them.
Ji-hoon discovers a box that contains a recorder and ribbon; he tries playing the recorder, thinking it’s like some sort of snakecharmer that will make the culprit appear. Hahaha, why are you so weirdly adorable?
He sees the marking on the ribbon, and then wraps the ribbon around the instrument. “Why are the staff memembers so clever?” What he reads is astounding.
Ji-hoon takes a minute to assess his clues: the cassette-tape/ruler matched Kwang-soo’s height perfectly; it was weird that Kwang-soo saw that violin image that no one else could; and now this.
Ji-hoon meets up with Haha and Jong-kook, to whom he shares his beliefs about Kwang-soo. He decides to pick up the phone and call it in, saying that they can end the show here “and the 8 o’clock news will just start early, I suppose.” Ha.
So Ji-hoon makes the call and screams Kwang-soo’s name. The SWAT team files in (with their water guns) and apprehends… Ji-hoon? HAHAHAHA.
In any case, this means that Kwang-soo isn’t the culprit after all, and as the SWAT officers take Ji-hoon away, Jong-kook has a thought. Ohhh, is the culprit hiding among the SWAT team?
We retrace our steps among the clues, and there was something Ji-hoon didn’t see on his cassette ruler: “178” written in black. His wrapped ribbon had revealed “male,” so if we put all the clues together…?
It’s Jong-kook, and Haha realizes only too late. We have to travel back over twenty years ago to know what happened: Jong-kook won the children’s concours, to the other prodigies’ resentment. Afterward, Jong-kook’s skills had dropped so low that his teacher recommended that he stop training vigorously.
So when Jong-kook received his invitation while working at his office job, he’d read about the other “musical geniuses” out there who had made it. Jong-kook had agreed to go in order to get his revenge, and even prepared a chair with velcro for an unfortunate person.
Remember that ten-minute period the ladies ran off to find an application form? Eun-ji had seen the one Jong-kook planted and sat down without any suspicion, only to rise and see her nametag cleanly ripped off.
Aw, now I’m sad that we didn’t get to see her at all for the majority of the episode. It turns out Ji-hyo had figured out the seating chart pattern (“Isn’t it ‘gold’?”), and since the Chinese character is also the same for “Kim,” she’d realized it was Jong-kook. Too bad she figured it out too late.
Poor Gary had fallen for the same trusting ruse, and Jong-kook had Kwang-soo to thank for insisting that what he saw was a violin, not a cello. Taking out Suk-jin and Jae-suk (who’d found a cello string) was easy peasy, and that look of shock on Jong-kook’s face when Ji-hoon was dragged away? Yeah, that was happiness.
So it looks like Haha’s going to mad at Jong-kook for at least two weeks after all. Kwang-soo wonders if the hyungs are calling in reports, and Jong-kook smiles devilishly. It’s time for him to shine on that stage… alone.
Jong-kook is on a search for Kwang-soo and finds Yeon-seo poring over a new clue instead. At the same time, Kwang-soo finds another painting. The cello solo playing in the background is such an appropriate choice.
Yeon-seo wonders if it might be Jong-kook after all, because Kwang-soo’s too obvious of a choice. Use that mystery novel-lovin’ noggin’! She starts backing away, and when she’s asked whether she ran away from Kwang-soo, she says it’s the other way around. Heh.
Her voice trembles as Jong-kook approaches — this is her woman’s instinct kicking in, she declares. But, Jong-kook’s also weak to women! Use that to your advantage!
Meanwhile, Kwang-soo finds music lines behind the frame, which matches up to the stars in the sky in the picture. Back in the auditorium, Jong-kook points out his name written in Chinese characters on the scroll. Yeon-seo: “Is this a thriller?”
Her shrill cries are no use in the end, and now it’s down to Jong-kook vs. Kwang-soo. Speaking of whom, Kwang-soo’s busy playing the melody on the piano. It’s familiar, as he sing-songs, “Hero of heroes on the mountain…” Ahhhh, Jong-kook’s coming for you!
“…Tiger-nim,” he finishes. GO! RUN! Kwang-soo rushes out while Jong-kook roams the halls looking for him. Will Kwang-soo get to a phone in time?
Kwang-soo picks up the phone, calls, and says Jong-kook’s name just as Jong-kook turns the corner and pounces on him…
Then it’s time to see who will perform on stage, and the eliminated turn around to see guilty Jong-kook being escorted into the audition.
That means the violin prodigy called it in on time after all. We see that Kwang-soo had been barely a split-second faster than Jong-kook, who was quickly apprehended.
So it’s Kwang-soo who gets his solo performance and the win. A fantastic, dramatic finish to an epic score, indeed.

A but upset that Eun Ji was ousted so early it was her first time appearing solo...
Kim Ji Hoon was hilarious though! He didn't even seem nervous & he fit in with the cast very smoothly!

I was initially surprised by how funny Kim Ji Hoon was when I started watching...but then I totally remembered having the same reaction to him when I watched the Flower Boy Next Door BTS. Lol, he's entertaining, that's for sure.
I'm also bummed about Eunji because I was most excited for her and thought she'd finally get more focus. Plus it kinda felt like she had to leave the show early too :/

I think they set it up for her to get eliminated early and leave. Apparently she has another schedule. She wasn't there for the closing.

I figured it must be something like that, otherwise they wouldn't have the singled out the girls from the very start. In any case, it was a great way to introduce the spy-aspect of the episode!

when i was watching this episode i had feeling that most running men doing is scripted, the way they find and solve puzzle, eliminate or make fun,and now that you say this i'm almost sure about this, people say wow running men are smart and awesome, but in my opinion they just was acting.if SJH is smart enough to solve puzzle and find out about KJK she's smart enough to hide herself, the way haha mention candles or KJK mention notebook wasn't natural at all,YJS was walking around and making fun,and in piano room he was fully concentrate on playing notes, how can he see numbers?and winner is lee kwang soo the person who should win previous ep but couldn't bcz of KJK

because their goal is to make it entertaining. so they are trying their best to find conversation topics and speak up. not by keeping quite and became serious at all the time. of course sometimes the production crew will leak some hints when the cast did not find clues and get frustrated for being their so long on a clue. this when some parts looks like awkward acting, when they are trying to make it looks like they found it without crew helps.

I understand what you say,but In my opinion RM is more entertaining in not-prepared (or half-prepared) situations.there were eps that I had same feeling but I've never been this much disappointed.my expectation of RM is higher.

eunji's reaction seemed pretty genuine though and many previous guests ahve said that running man was not scripted at all in how the winner is chosen and such.
regarding eunji, if she had another schedule they probably would've ousted her later on anyway so i dont think they chose her the first because of it.

I thought this was a good episode, but I am still confused as to how the theme/set-up and the guests went together? I mean even though its another network, having the Cantabile Tomorrow people on would have made more sense, because all the guests just came off of other network shows as well anyways, so its not as if they were promoting anything SBS related...Its not that I didn't like the guests, they were great, but they had the perfect set-up for Cantabile.

Wondered about the theme too while watching.
This ep didn't make me laugh like other eps did, except when they took off Ji Hoon's shoes and found these Really height-enhancing inserts! They called him a con-artist. Sb said: Even I wouldn't have inserts that are sooo high!
The rest of the ep wasn't funny silly like the eps I love best. Ji Hoon is really handsome tho.

Main point is the other guests have finished their drama, while Cantabile Tomorrow is still running, therefore to have the casts of Cantabile Tomorrow on Running Man would equal to promoting the drama which is a rival network to SBS.

This was a great episode and the music they played towards the end creeped me out.
Eunji was severely under utilized. Did she have a competing schedule that required her to leave early?

Yep, that day she have other Schedule a permorfance with A-Pink in a University.
She was only there for more suspense, its like Park Bo Young Episode (118) when Choi Min Soo appears and eliminates all the members.

What a fantastic episode! Although I was rooting for Jong-kook to win, I thought it was an awesomely planned, thrilling episode. I think the production crew really outdid themselves with both the hints and the editing. Also damn, is Jong-kook a scary good villain. I LOVE how he revealed himself to Gary and Yeon-seo just like every super villain ever, before coolly outing them with that evil smile on his face. Not to mention his surprisingly good acting in luring Ji-hoon and then taking out Haha, plus the way he literally *pounced* on Kwang-soo in his last ditch effort at the end.

Given how these shows are run, while the games themselves are not rigged, there would be a house rule, unspoken or spoken, not to go after the guests early in the game. Which may indicate that Eun Ji did have to leave and she was "allowed" to walk into the booby-trap.
Which doesn't take away from the fact that it was a pretty cool little trap, but . . . her voice was SO distinctive and pretty when they let her sing. She needs to come back again.

I felt like I was watching a drama. It was fun and suspenseful but scripted because Jong Kook was magically there when anyone honed in on clues about him. These special type episodes are interesting in concept but you can tell that everything is laid out for editing. Yoo Jae Suk and Kwang Soo are carrying the show these days so either a new PD will inject life or maybe new cast members because it's getting old now.

Again this comes up . . . if you think the show is faked, why do you watch it? And why do you accuse the producers and cast of creating a fake show based on no more evidence than Jong Kook being clever enough to track people down in a not particularly large playing field and concentrating on the players bright enough to make best use of the clues?

Sorry for say that, but if the ratings are still bad changing the concept, the best choice will be change members.
Only if the rating was 6% or 7% i will change the members.
For me Yoo Jae Suk & Kwang Soo Are intocables
Haha Stays too
Kim Jong Kook, mmm KJK he's so strong change for one person not so strong more equaled competitions.
Ji Hyo & Gary & Ji Suk Jin, sorry but out
Suk Jin it's old now change for one Young person, and Gary and ji hyo contribute Little to the show, and the loveline it's so death now.

All of those guys are Running Man, all or none, if you cannot accept that..go watch something else more to your liking.
Would you replace a family member so easy just to go up in the world?
That's just disloyal.

Remember Joey from Friends??? His solo show was a fiasco, because he was only funny with the others Friends around.

Making some changes in the cast doesn’t mean disloyalty at all. Sometimes, it is better to see some of them go rather than all of them go. There are shows that changed their cast regularly, but thrived on and on after the changes. Almost all of 1 Night 2 Days’ original members were changed but it got better ratings than Running Man nowadays.
Running Man is suffering from the lack of character development. We hardly see a new character since 2013. I can only think of Kwang Ja and Jong Sook. No new characters for the rest. The cast dynamics also suffered since they are becoming more and more predictable in their actions. Monday Couple moments are obviously fake and forced.
“All of those guys are Running Man, all or none, if you cannot accept that..go watch something else more to your liking.”
That’s pretty much an arrogant statement. The show is suffering from low ratings and by telling that to others, they just might really go and watch something else to their liking and the ratings will be lower and lower, to the point cancellation will be considered and acted upon.

i agree if the members themselves chose to leave due to wanting to pursue other options..but i was actually refering to the idea of "forcing" them to leave and replacing them with better looking , younger people.
It might temporarily help the viewing numbers but it would most def. put a strain on the realtionships between the remaining members and the new ones if they are forced to new members.
If the choice was to leave on their own accord, i am sure the remaining memebers would welcome the new additions with their typical RM family attitude...by snatching his/her nametag and dumking them in mud...nothing says friendship more then mud :)

as for my statement on watching something else, agreed, that may have been a bit harsh, but i do not like the idea of this "disposable" society these days when things and people get tossed aside and replaced the moment they have outlived their usefullens or "cuteness" date..i really felt as if the poster was just indicating that peope are replacable (which is probably a truth in entertainement, but to me a very sad truth) without considering the feelings of both the people involved and their fans.

You do realize the ratings for Running Man hasn’t been good for a while? They are watching something else rather than Running Man. Running Man is competing with 1 Night 2 Days and Real Men, two shows that’s willing to change their casts as required, and both shows have been doing better than Running Man.
When certain members have outlived their usefulness to the show, they are nothing more than dead-weights. They contributed nothing to the show and get paid for just being there and do nothing, hardly fair to the members that actually do their best for the show. Better to replace the dead-weights with someone new that actually useful. If they don’t want to get replaced, they’d better get their act together.

I totally agree on the scripted part. This episode's concept was really good but it couldve been better if it they solved it themselves and didnt know from the beginning. I dont think changing the members would make the ratings go higher.

Everytime kjk became a spy or smthing like this, its always feel thrilling and suspense. his ability as entertainer cant be denied. the way he make the plot flowing like that full of tension and confusion its enough to make this eps difference from others. more horror than the ghost concept in eps 155 with suzy and jihyo as main characters. he did a great job in every time he got some role eventhough he is in pain (the reason why he is not really jumping in body music game earlier)

I agree....when he is the one hunting it seems more suspenseful too. I really liked how they revealed the way he hunted them down later. the first "death" of Eun Ji was the only one I didn't like coz that felt rigged, which it probably was. But it was good that Kwang Soo won! That was unpredictable. I thought he would "die" early again...

The way he ousted yjs, haha and oys was my favourite. not the way he ripped their nametag, but the way he acting. he mock yjs like psycho and the way he admit it to oys with smile and low voice its really like thriller. he acts well as psycho

I usually get annoyed with female guests not having the initiative to at least try to escape a threatening situation, but KJK played Yeon-seo so beautifully there. A great confrontation scene.

I'm watching this episode now, and so far it's one of the best RM episodes I've seen. It's a real mystery, which is a lot of fun to watch. And Kim Ji Hoon's laugh is adorable; it makes me want to laugh every time I hear it.

I agree Ji Hoon was great, what a terrific laugh! He needs to come back. I laughed so hard at Gary with the cymbal hat. Why does it seem he gets the dorkiest outfits?
I thought this was a great ep: funny and entertaining

I'm rooting for Kwangsoo in the final act. Jong Kook won last ep and robbed Kwangsoo's chance. So it's only fitting that this ep Kwang Soo wins.
Kim Ji Hoon is adorable guy.. haha

I personally love JK and KS, but it was in fact the opposite situation. Episodes 216 and 217 were actually filmed in the opposite order. 217 on the Monday of that filming week and 216 on the Tuesday, so KS won first instead of JK, and then JK won instead of KS, despite the order of when the episodes were aired.

I'm so happy Kwang Soo got his solo win!! It seems like forever since he's won. I really liked this episode's suspense and premise, and was thoroughly surprised at the cleverness of the hints.
There was just oneee tiny editing flaw I noticed that bugged me. Did anyone else see when KJK and HaHa were investigating the paper-to-flame hint, the paper KJK was holding was actually totally burnt and had a big hole in the middle? LOL but the editing made it look like the flame was making the words appear. That would have been totally cool, if it was real...

I noticed that, but the paper being burnt and the flame making the words appear aren't mutually exclusive. When I was little I had a book with a recipe for invisible ink; it was basically lemon juice, and the way to make it visible was to apply heat, like holding it to a flame or going over it with an iron. So it is a real thing.

I thought it was a really good episode in terms of editing and the ingenuity of the clues that harkens back to the glory days of Running Man especially the Sherlock Holmes special. I just wish the new PD would tone it down on the scripting

One of the best episodes of all time for me. The drama and the entertainment is great! The good editing really brings out a movie-esque feeling. Reminds me a lot of the Sherlock episode, but this one has more flow and makes more sense. Scripted? Who cares as it's not so obvious and does not disrupt the flow of the program. Nothing out of the ordinary jumped out halfway and made me roll my eyes at any forced developments. As long as it's natural and well done and does not disrupt my entertainment! I'm sure they did not decide the winner or make some of the gem moments or make Kook decide the order of elimination.
I think realistically, what the PDs did is to tell the members to seperate instead of having them hang around each other all the time, to facilitate the spy's elimination.
Love YJS and his bratty trolling ways. Always, our JSJ or LKS or Gary will reliably fall for it.
Come to think of it, looks like our Kookie has never won individually when he is the spy, has he? He was the thief in the Thailand Special in ep 51, the villian in the You who came from the Stars episode 185, Kookminator in ep 196 and now. All lose at the last step.
Love it when he is the villian. How he taunted his victims with with the reveal before their moment of death. Whahahaha!

One of the great moments is when Haha and Gary discovered the camera. The change in their expressions to close up their face when they tried to conceal the knowledge, so human. Then the quick grabbiness and the change in their their expressions again when they realise the jig is up.

My favourite episode for this year together with the Han River. Kudos to the editing team making Running Man lots more scarier and full with suspense as oppose to those slasher films for Halloween. Think about it, this episode fits Halloween!

I love the episodes where the whole team has to work together and use their "sleuthing" abilities and skills to find out clues or the episodes like crossing the Han river with the students.
The celebs are nice, but i think we need a bit more running man episodes where the "regular people" from the community can join in, maybe something linked to a charity. That would be som much fun, or something like a "mothers and friends of RM versus the world"....
Haha can you imagine Kwang soo's mom/aunt/ slapping KJK for bullying her precious boy?

Ji Hoon was great. I like guests who are very comfortable with the cast and good at ad libbing. So funny and cute.
The bit in the beginning with ceiling instruments was so creative, difficult, and funny.
When Jae Suk caught Ji Hoon with his hand down his pants! (Since it's Jae Suk's job to call people out!). I guess he was just tucking in his shirt tails - but so freaking hilarious!
Good job Running Men!

Daebak! Great episode! (at least for me)
Not a fan of Eun-Ji but still pity her for being eliminated the first and only having a little air-time.
Yet her elimination is among the best in RM history. Even a regular, experienced RM member would likely to fall into the trap. In crime stories, it will be an ingenious method because the culprit has a strong alibi: he's nowhere near the victim when the crime happens. Since the goal is to eliminate everyone there is no problem in whoever falls into it. If Kim Jong-Kook devised it himself, he would make an awesome criminal indeed.
Closely observing & eliminating Song Ji-Hyo is a perfect strategy: she solved a lot of hints & was close to the point of revealing the culprit.
The confrontation between Kim Jong-Kook and Oh Yeon-Soo was precious to me because he finally overcame his main weakness: being too gentle towards ladies. It is quite scary though when the assassin stood next to the helpless victim & revealing his true intention.
Last tactical error would be to chase after Lee Kwang-Soo instead of guarding the telephone. Of course when there are a lot of phone units to be used there would be no choice. Perhaps better to eliminate Kwang-Soo earlier and let Ji Suk-Jin survive until the last as he's quite harmless.
After all congratulations to Lee Kwang-Soo for winning the final show-down and to Kim Jong-Kook for showing how to be a culprit.

This episode screams scripted tbqh. I LOVE runningman and I never really thought the previous eps were scripted except for this. If you've watched a lot of eps, when these kinds of concepts are played, they show more genuine reactions. This ep was just so spot on to the point that its already suspicious. the clues were harder than usual and in real situations, it would actually take them longer to solve them. They even take a long time in solving simpler clues on previous episodes. I know not everyone will agree but thinking about the situation of their current ratings, of course they would want a good episode. The concept was really nice but it could've been better if it was done genuinely.

This episode was awesome on many points!
First, the hints were really well done and exciting to discover/understand, I liked it.
Second, the guests are great. I'm sad we didn't get to see Eunji more but it's easy to guess her early departure was planned as she had another event to attend.
Oh Yeon Seo is really into it and her reactions were good!
Ji Hoon is really entertaining and funny, he blended really well with the cast :)
Third, Kim Jong Kook. Mannn! I was rooting for Kwangsoo at the end but Jong Kook played the villain SO well! The way he outed Yeonseo, jaesuk and gary were scary... ahahah
Overall it was an awesome episode, really funny at the beginning and then slowly becoming thrilling/scary o.o ahhaa
Obvisouly it was scripted but it didn't bother me a lot ~~

Hmmm - maybe need to give this ep another shot, but it was dragging for me and I like the guests (that intro was way too long and didn't have the usual laughs).
Anyhow, Kim Ji-hoon is one of those actors who looks better w/ a sageuk hairstyle (Joseon X-Files) rather than a modern cut.

I really thought this was one of the best Running Man episodes made! Tons of credits to the producers and the editors for making this episode so full of thrill and suspense. Jong Kook made the perfect villain and his way of getting the others out (especially Gary, YJS, Yeonseo) was spot on creepy.
What everyone needs to remember is that this is a variety show so some scripting to a point is still very acceptable, and in this one the scripting (if any) was done very subtly. What's important is that the entertainment comes out. Also dont forget that we're watching the result from hours of filming. You dont expect the broadcasted episode to contain 10 minutes of the members just thinking do you.
Anyway I don't want to leave much arguments on a recap of a very entertaining episode. I'm glad the past 2-3 episodes has had the "old Running Man" feel to it. I hope the producers can still go on to create many more exciting concepts and episodes. The members, whether you agree with me or not, are inseparable. At this point it's hard to see anyone leave just for the sake of having new characters. I'd be much happier to see them all together with each other.

Yes people are complaining about them solving the clues too quickly but they usually film this show all night. 6 hours is plenty of time for a cast that has been doing this kind of show for 4 years to solve clues.

I know KJK is the vallian half way through the show. OMG!!! He was so scary and creepy.. I love how he eliminate the rest of the contestant. Although KJK still look a little awkward with his acting, I still felt that he makes a good spy/criminal. I supposed he will be cast as a bad guy now. Lol! Congrats LKS for the win.. I didn't know how funny Kim Ji Hoon and his personality really fit with the running man members. I hope he gets to be a guest again and participate with the Name Tagging Race.
I have suggestions for Running Man in order to get higher ratings
1. Guest Kim Woo Bin and Lee Hyun-woo to promote their upcoming movie
2. Misaeng Cast
3. Pinocchio Cast (with a unique and not so boring theme)
4. Lee Min Ho to promote Gangnam Blues.. that would make a huge hit!

The intros were ridiculously funny. Kwang Soo kept playing on his broken string violin. Ji Hyo only played on the white keys on her piano. Jae-pavarotti... need I say more? LOL~
Aw, I was sorta bummed finding out Ji Hoon wears thick shoe lifts although it was funny seeing the men strip. I chuckled a bit more at the end of that segment Ji Hoon was on his tippy toes to keep himself in the closeup frame shot. LOLOL! What is up with Impala's temp hair coloring dye? He stained the white keyboard. Ew! LOL!!
The clues were well thought out this episode, but unfortunately I watched ep.219 before this one so I can't praise this episode any better. LOVE ep.219 too much!
People tend to forget in a Taxi interview for Reply Me 1997 Eun Ji said she dreamt of being a vocal coach not an actual singer as her profession so it's no surprise to me she has an ear for catching music notes. She's so awesome! Miss her so much as Shi Won.

Eun Ji catching music notes? That was great, but I can't agree to anyone who says that she has a great music sense. Perfect pitch wouldn't be a title for someone who identifies the note of a children's song. I could identify it the first time I heard it, most of my friends could too.
It's actually pretty basic. The notes on the song in this episode was only in a range of, what, 8 notes? I would call someone as perfect pitch if she/he could identify the notes of Mozart's or Beethoven's song the first time she/he hears it. :)

GREAT episode! Felt just like the good old days when every episode was a hit episode. The suspense and the detectiv work that was needed was awesome. I can't believe this episode had such low ratings as people missed something great.
But - I felt really bad for Eunji. She came to the show and was basically kicked out 30 minutes into it before the fun even began. They should've had someone from the main cast removed instead, as I like Eunji and would've wanted to watch her again.
Having said that, did anyone notice that Eunji was missing at the end when the winner was announced? Did she leave because she was upset about being ousted so early or was there another reason to it??
