No awards ceremony for tvN this year

Remember when cable station tvN announced it was launching its own awards ceremony? Never mind; they’ve nixed the idea after all.
This doesn’t mean the station will never host their own awards show, but perhaps they jumped the gun in planning. Announced only in August and described as being in the very early stages, the awards have been deemed a better fit for the station’s tenth-year anniversary, per a rep with CJ E&M, which owns tvN.
That’s too bad, since I was looking forward to some of my favorite dramas being honored with awards, since they’d be excluded from the existing awards hosted by the Big 3 broadcasters (KBS, MBC, SBS). There aren’t that many ceremonies where these dramas are even eligible for consideration, so it would have been nice to see them given recognition (yes, even though I recognize that awards are bullshit and station-specific awards are even more bullshit because you’re just handing out trophies to make everyone happy).
It already pains me that excellent shows like Joseon X-Files and Nine and Answer Me 1997 have come and gone without earning awards in their industry. Furthermore, tvN has been churning out so many programs in both scripted and unscripted formats, especially recently, that it seems like this year would’ve been a good year to do it. It’s remarkable how much they’ve been able to develop in a short eight years, frankly.
Well, I guess we’ll have to wait another two years for tvN to revisit the idea. Meanwhile, we’ve got the Beanie Awards to look forward to, and our Editors’ Picks as well. If only we could fool kidnap convince the stars to come pick up their awards in person. And by awards I mean my kisses, of course.

I second that! They should have an awards ceremony this year, coz this was the year they had hit dramas, one after the other. Can they replicate it next year? Maybe, but it won't be the same actors and not the same dramas that made our kdrama addiction so worth it. On top of my head, these are the best tvn kdramas for me, in no particular order. King of High School Savvy, Witch's Romance, Secret Hotel, Plus Nine Boys, Surplus Princess, Marriage not Dating.

Not exactly related, but I watched City Hunter this week... and all I'm gonna day is that if tvN had their awards ceremony this year, City Hunter deserves to win all the awards. In fact, City Hunter should win every honourable and worthy award every fuckin year.

The greatest TV show of all time.
I am blessed and privileged to have watched this masterpiece of a show.

You really should learn to put your comments where they belong because the post about is about tvN and its shows. But, okay, I'll humor you.
Even if tvN will give out awards this year, City Hunter (as amazing as it is) would still not get anything. Why? Because City Hunter was aired over at KBS, not tvN.

But.... I think our Beanie Award is better( like you mentioned, the others are meaningless since EVERYONE gets an award( then, what's so special about it???)

Awards are just done for prestige and the way they are distributed (ratings & popularity), they don't make sense, we all know that. Honestly, I'm glad tvN is keeping the $$ to invest in (let's hope) better dramas for the next year... Cause 2014 wasn't good for me.

Oh no, I really wanted The Three Musketeers and lots of other shows to get some love this year, normally cable shows never get any recognition unless they become Answer-Me-1994-style ratings behemoths in the double digits (very difficult on cable).

I like the idea that the Beanie Award becomes recognized as a prestigious award that will be coveted by the actors/actresses and the drama productions as well.

Aw, I'm bummed.
I was totally rooting for Joo Jang-mi and Gong Ki-tae to pick up some awards :(
Also wanted love for Three Musketeers, which, by the way, I think definitely deserves Best Ensemble at the Editor's Choice this year. At least, that one will have a shot with one of it's next seasons!
All the other dramas deserve recognition as well! This just means they'll have to continue putting out awesome dramas in the years to come until they can finally give awards.

Such a bummer! I was really looking forward to it since TvN had some good ones this year.
But as long as it's still an ongoing plan, I'm satisfied since we'll get to see many deserving actors receive awards one day. At that time, it would be nice to give awards to their previous hits. Like QIHM, AM97, MND, etc.

That's too bad! TvN has produced some excellent shows like Reply 1997/94, Queen Inhyun's man, Nine, Josean X files, the Flower boy series and most recently Plus 9 boys. Some of the shows mentioned above actually make it to my favorite drama list.
These dramas are better than those currently broadcasted on the big channels, they need to get appreciated! :(

You have to watch the messaging communicated via the characters' clothing/accessories. It wasn't pervasive; rather it was usually encapsulated how they wardrobed the character(s) in a particular scene or sequence of scenes. Right at first I thought it was a misstep of the costume designer. But the messaging was consistent across multiple episodes. So it was obviously deliberate.
But I agree with you wholeheartedly; apart from that I loved the show! However, in the final analysis I just can't support what they did. It's not right to do that to ANYONE.

Even if they didn't do awards, it would be nice to see them do a "year in review", kinda like the family concerts held by talent agencies... That way, at least they get to hang out with each other (only if they want to!) and we get to watch them play dress up!

Since Hallyu is an international phenomenon, are there any award shows that are truly international? Seems that's the next step in the evolution of international fandom.
I'd love to see a show where you guys lead an international panel of reviewers/recappers who adjudicate awards based on the casting, execution and quality of reality and dramatic storytelling.
And maybe pair it with a more traditional 'people's choice' awards for elements of acting performances, voted on by viewers outside of Korea. (Best kiss, best back hug, best tears, best look of paaaiiin, character I'd most like to be like, etc.) That'd give idols and ex-models a running shot at winning something, since a lot of us can only discern the quality of their face acting. :-)
So rope in a sponsorship by Hershey's and let the kisses begin!

...in that case, I suppose you couldn't avoid an obligatory choco abs award, either. And it's only reasonable that you'd need to actually feel the abs...yunno, to verify real abs vs body paint.)

How about DB opening a Paypal account so we can donate money for real prizes? Like an all expenses paid trip for the cast of Reply 1994. Let's get them closer you this side of the earth. And if they all can't make it we'll take YS, Baro, and HooJoon as representatives. We'll give YS access to the Paypal account to pay for their expenses. And as far as I've seen, in the international kdramaverse all roads lead to pajamas.* So maybe the awards show should be the worlds biggest pajama party? Hosts, awardees, audience and online viewers all dressed accordingly. :-)

Aaaaaw, no. This is disappointing. I was really looking forward to seeing some of my favourite shows get some recognition (even if it's compulsory) and to seeing some of my favourite actors all dolled up for a nice night out. TvN has really developed a nice little niche for itself for a station that's less than 10 years old. Good for them.

Aww. :'( thought I could see my Nemo couple again and ofc SIG. Too bad tvN had already a quite good number of solid dramas in the past few years but didn't get enough recognition from the station, unless their first award show reunites the cast of QIHM, AM series, Nine, MND, EC, HSKOS etc. (if they could do that)

What a shame. I can think of few dramas that truly deserve an award.
About the DramaBeans awards- I'd like to suggest giving the option to choose more than one thing in each category. I think it'd give a better chance to many dramas. Sometimes, though I have a show that I like very very much, I don't get to pick it, because in different categories, there are different shows that, for that specific category, did better, so I choose them.
...And, as stupid as it might sound, sometimes I want to give an award to a favorite drama, that wasn't perfect in any specific category (or even lacked a lot, ahem), but in the overall, I enjoyed the drama very much. Like, the popular vote, in shows that have judges (and many times the audience chooses something different).
