Uhm Jung-hwa returns to big screen in body-swap comedy
by girlfriday
I don’t know if it counts as a body-swap plot if it’s technically your own life lived twice, but there’s not much else you can call a story about waking up a completely different person. Uhm Jung-hwa (Witch’s Romance) is returning to the big screen in the comedy Wonderful Nightmare, where she plays a high-powered lawyer who suddenly wakes up one day and finds that she’s a housewife and mother. Though Uhm Jung-hwa more commonly plays the successful career woman in her dramas and films, she’s also proven herself in dramatic roles like Montage, where she played a heartbroken mother.
The new project comes from writer-director Kang Hyo-jin, of the grandma-bank-heist comedy Six-Shooter Bandits, starring Na Moon-hee, Kim Sumi, and Kim Hye-ok as grandmas who rob banks, ha. (Where can I get my hands on this movie? I need to watch this right NOW.) Wonderful Nightmare is about an accomplished lawyer who dies accidentally, by a mistake of fate. Because it’s a fluke of the heavens, she’s given a second chance to come back, but they shove her back not as herself, but as a housewife and mother.
It sounds like it’s a sort of test that she has to endure, by living as a wife and mother before she’s allowed to return to her former self. If I woke up one morning and suddenly had people calling me Mom, I’d think it was a nightmare too. But while living as a housewife, her character starts to heal some of the wounds that kept her such a guarded and ambitious workaholic, and eventually she changes. Oh no, if she passes the cosmic test, does the family go poof?
Uhm Jung-hwa is reportedly in final negotiations, and the movie plans to start shooting this winter for a release next year.

So basically it's that Nicolas Cage movie, the one with Tea Leoni where he wakes up on Christmas in a different life.

To be fair, that movie came out before Nicholas Cage became a parody of himself. It's actually not bad.

I love the movie Family Man. Not enough to buy it on dvd but I always get excited to see it when it comes on tv.
*spoiler* The last scene he does in his alternate-family-man world is so heartbreaking. I think much of my love for the movie stems from that scene.

I thought he was good in almost all the movies he did before Wicker Man. Then he started having money problems so he took any job that would throw money his way. Lord of War was awesome.

What is it with body-swapping? It gives me the creeps, but it comes up again and again in kdramas.

I know what you mean. For some reason, body-swaps are an automatic turn-off for me.

Six-Shooter Bandits is on youtube (I just looked bc that movie sounds awesome and I want to see it too^^)
Apparently the common title is 'Twilight Gangsters'. That's how I found it :)
As for the Uhm Jung Hwa movie... It sounds like a great premise so I'll keep an eye on this one ;)

This is kind of like an old forties movie, Here Comes Mr. Jordan where a successful honest boxing champ is mistakenly killed by fate but given another chance in the body of a wealthy business man who's about to be murdered by his evil wife for his money. He gets to save the day, stop the evil wife and find new love with someone he helps along the way. Robert Montgomery was the star. It's a cute fee-good story. I want to see this new UJH film (she's so great!) but will probably have to wait a year till it's uploaded somewhere legit with Eng subs. :)

Hmmm.. Sound like Uhm Jung Hwa version of 13 going 30, Family Man and many on. Seem only her fans and comedy lovera will fill the cinema. Wish she'd come back with some serious exciting plot in another genre.
Anyway, since I like all her movies, (the feeling her movies gives off are really aething)I'll look it out but I will have to wait a year or more..like the comment above said.
It'd be so great if she accept this film for big screen anddo a thriller drama on small screen

I saw a lifetime movie that was similar. I hate lifetime movies but I liked the idea so I'm looking forward to the K-version of this. Who's the hubby though? Anyway I love Uhm Jung-hwa so can't wait to see it--though I'll have to unfortunately. :/

Uhm Jung Hwa's really charming in every role, and she can do everything - loved her in Witch's Romance, but she pulled off a completely different look and vibe in Montage.
I do like her best in comedy, so I'll look out for this one - thanks, gf!

Yeah, this is The Family Man with a pinch of Drop Dead Diva. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing.

I am trusting UJH on this one since she hasn't failed me yet in comedies. Loved her in Dancing Queen.
