Song Chang-eui to become OCN’s newest crime-solving genius

Cable network OCN, home of the tortured prosecutors and the quirky forensic geeeeeniuses of dramaland, has now courted Song Chang-eui (Thrice Married Woman, The Great Seer) to join its ranks. He’s signed on to headline the network’s newest procedural drama called Dr. Frost, about an experimental psychologist who joins a team that — what else — solves crimes. I fully expected it to be about a guy with icy superpowers, but apparently he just has white Einsteiny hair (at the age of 34).
The new procedural series is an adaptation of an award-winning webtoon of the same name, about a psychology professor who suffered an injury to the frontal lobe as a child. As a result, he is unable to feel certain emotional centers of his brain, while his deductive logic and reasoning centers are pronounced. Sooo… assy genius, is what you’re saying.
He’s a professor of experimental psychology who also speaks six languages; during the day he teaches at the university and works at the school’s psychological counseling office, and at night he’s a bartender. But, if he already has a moonlighting gig, when will he solve crimes? The drama will focus on the psychological conundrums that he helps unravel, as he consults (sometimes formally, sometimes secretly) on cases involving psychological trauma.
Even though Song Chang-eui often plays very soft, gentlemanly roles, he has range and presence and could be fantastic as an eccentric professor who’s missing certain key emotional responses. I wonder if we’ll be seeing him with frosty white hair — it might be shocking, but I like the idea of a drastic physical transformation for a role like this, and he’d probably be game to do it. If you’re going to play another genius crime-solver on a network that breeds them by the dozen, you might as well go for oddest duck in the pond.
Dr. Frost will follow Reset in the Sunday night slot and premieres in November.

A variation on 'Sherlock," I suppose? But, if it's well written, why not?
One of the interesting things about the modern generation of Sherlock Holmes versions and imitators is that, in order to create a personality as distinctive as Holmes, the writers deliberately make their "genius" detective protagonist so strange that he or she is dysfunctional or obviously mentally ill. In the case of 'Sherlock', Holmes describes himself as a "high-function sociopath."
As some of us long-time Sherlock Holmes fans like to point out, the Holmes of the stories is eccentric, brilliant, reclusive, but is also a perfectly functional Victorian English gentleman. He is "off" a bit by our modern standards, but not that different in his day to day behavior than Arthur Conan Doyle and some of the intellectual friends he based the character on.

Can never have too many crime-solving dramas and this character sounds along the ally of our other favourites - Dr. Han, Prosecutor Min and Yeo Ji Hoon. Now wouldn't it be super awesome if there was a Drama Special with all four. lol....ah, I wish I could make that happen.
Naturally, I'll be tuning in. :D

This sounds like the Japanese drama "Control" or "Honboshi" Either way I love crime thrillers with a bent towards psychology and I love song chang eui so will definitely be checking this out. I hope it gets subbed. Currently no decent subs for reset even :(

I am excited about this because I need more of Song Chang Eui to wash what happened to his character in Thrice Married Woman out of my mind. He is a wonderful actor who seems really under-utilized.

me thinking the same! The jdrama is called Mr. Brain, one of my favourite Kimura's dramas. well, i think as long as it's not having 'brain' in the title i won't be rude to start comparing it to the jdrama *thinking of what would happen to something Cantabile ..ahem!*
anyway, always a big fan of mystery and crime drama here, so hopefully OCN could pull this up decently..but still, while waiting for this one, can i have the Vampire Prosecutor 3.0? OCN please??

Song Chang-eui wasn't on my radar until Heartstrings (which I actually liked!), and I remember how he rocked his Broadway director fashion - especially the red jacket! Hope he's equally cool in this one!

Ahem. I'm a big fan of the webtoon. It was briefly teased in the 2013 OCN lineup thing but clearly it didn't air so I thought it was doomed to be stuck in pre-production limbo. BUT IT'S ALIVE! YAY!
And I think I'm going to enjoy Song Chang-Eui as Frost. I can't wait to see the rest of the cast! Especially Pavlov, haha.

Same here...I love the webtoon and I am truly curious to see how this is adapted. I first found the webtoon odd but got caught up in it

The Dr. Frost character makes me curious.
More crime/mystery dramas are what I need right now. Been watching a lot of rom-coms lately. Need to switch it up.
Haven't seen Song Chang Eui act before. I think I've only seen him on Running Man. xD

I' really looking foreward to this. It looks good.
But is being a genius psychologist,psychopath or doctor a thing now? It seems like every medical or crime show has to have a genius. Either its the high IQ arrogant, charming psychopath, amazingly skilled psychologist, or geeeennnnius doctor. I don't know. Just seems to be something thats just always there. I get why its there, but i thinkim seeing too much of it. None the less, im still anticipating this.

This is a remake of a webtoon on Naver. I can't remember if it was finished on top of my head but it's episode by episode with an overall storyline so I think if it follows the original manhwa story, it should be pretty decent.
Basically in the comic, people at school comes to him and his student assistant for counseling and that's how they recieve their cases. it's basically using behavorial psychology to determine motives and reasons for people's actions.
Or he sees people at the bar while working as a bartender and guesses like whether the girl and the guy are compatible or what their motivation are for dating etc.
He also gets a cute dog named Pavlov who acts exactly like him in the comic (with a head scar to match) ^^. I hope they didn't delete Pavlov's character in the remake.

Yessssssss. Now if there were only ghosts or supernatural bad guys (I vote for those of the Cthulhu-ish persuasion), it would be instant must-see TV for me. ::closes eyes & wishes really hard::
