For those whose asking: he got into a scandal, apparently a model and an idol blackmailed him, apparently he cheated on Lee Min Jung with them and are now turning the tables on the blackmailers and calling himself a victim. Min Jung is said to be living with her parents now. I find him so despicable, he has major major scandals in the past but managed to cover himself up time and time again.

I know what LBH did was bad but I don't feel sorry for those model and idol who tried to take advantage of him being a playboy with a bad reputation by blackmailing him, he couldn't care less about LMJ's feelings as he's been like that for a long time but they should have known that he's a married man with a wife and it's wrong to get involved with them, instead of blackmailing him if they went to the police for sexual harassment they would have got my respect but they chose to blackmail him for money which is very low, now they are getting prison time and their career is over, Apparantely knetz reaction towards LMJ being victim in all this has been mixed, some people are saying they feel sorry for her while others are blaming her for being stupid to think that she could change someone like LBH, some are even speculating that maybe both have an open mentality about these things, as far as I know LMJ dated LBH about 5 years ago, their relationship lasted about maybe a year and they broke off, the reason for the breakup might have been the same, LBH's lady problems, now knowing all that she still chose to marry him, when the marriage news broke out knetz were totally against it telling her not to do it but she went with it, so I can't blame knetz for not feeling sympathy for her, anyway even though LBH had a bigger scandal than this before and survived it easily this is the second time he's been caught up in a huge scandal so it will be harder for him to get out of this, but, it's still not out of the question that he might beat the scandal again.

According to a gossip site I found after googling this, LBH was in a relationship with the model for several months. So when he wanted to break up with her, they then went on to blackmail him... so yeah they're all stupid.

I looked around, and apparently Lee Byung-hoon's CFs are being cancelled now.
I know some will say he didn't break the law, but under Korean law, adultery is an offence and for a guy who chose to marry an actress and made a huge public spectacle of his relationship and wedding, it's not surprising that news of his cheating would be a scandal and tarnish his reputation. I don't feel sorry for him at all.
Poor Lee Min Jung though, she didn't deserve this humiliation and I doubt she'll divorce him since he has enough influence with the industry to make it difficult for her to work if she leaves him.

So I binge watched my way through It's Okay, It's Love this week. Yes, I was one of those people who didn't watch as it ran and got pulled in by hearing how great it was. It might actually be my favorite drama of all time. Sad that there aren't more episodes waiting for me.
I also started to watch Running Man (mainly because of Lee Kwang Soo) and have been watching nothing else since I started. Now I'm wondering why I didn't start watching earlier.

The Night Watchman... - I thought episode 13 was going to be a turning point! So I was pretty disappointed in 14. I just can't handle the randomness. There's no cohesion. It's just scene and then scene. The writer's had some neat ideas and clearly wanted to put a lot in, but it's still not really working for me. And yet I'm still watching and caught up!
She's So Loveable - Up in the air on this. I didn't dislike it like I thought I would but I also am not grabbed by it either. I only saw the first episode though.
Secret Hotel - I still have half of episide 8 left but I'm still enjoying this. It's not perfect but I'm enjoying it's charm and I like a lot if their characters. I like quirkiness and this has some really great moments.
Bridal Mask - Still slowly savoring this show! It's nice to have such great shows to go back and watch. I wish I'd seen it while it was airing but I'm still loving it. There's just so much that's right about this show.
...
On a random side note, can anybody explain the need shows have for immediate flashbacks. A couple shows I'm watching (not just the listed ones) have had scenes where the character has flashbacks to something that literally just happened or was just said. And if not immediate it's still in the same episode. Are our memories really supposed to be that bad?

I have noticed that too. Most recently in Grandpas over Flowers Investigation Team. It looks like there was a commercial break in between (that we don't see), so they repeat the scene. It's very strange to watch.

That happens a lot in My Secret Hotel, and it's really annoying. I think the people who cut out the commercials could cut out that repeating part too.
Or leave the commercials the way they are, I actually like the Korean ones.

Reagrding the flashbacks .....
Perhaps it's just filler because they didn't know what else to write or perhaps it's to extend an episode. ....... If I remember correctly, in King Of Dramas, I think this was a technique they employed when they wanted to make an episode longer so that viewers would still be watching while the dramas in the competing tv stations were ending, thus affecting the ratings. ...... Anthony had asked for a rewrite of the episode to make it longer and they concluded "flashback" was the way to go! Heh.

Flashback in a drama to a moment/event that literally just happens minutes ago, means they need to fill the airtime.

Thanks to everyone for all the info on flashbacks. I'd wondered that too. I used to think it was after a commercial break, but it didn't correspond to the breaks I was seeing.
It is a weird filler, though.

I'm thinking that the charm of the night watchman is its randomness. It feels like a diary where anything can happen anyday. Like a true account or journal. But the writers kept us in the dark about so much...Sadam's plot, for example. Which is why it's been a problem. If this had all been done from the Prince's POV, and if we didn't see the evil machinations of the other characters, then being in the dark would be part of the fun. But when we see characters plotting and plotting and we still aren't given the entire truth about a situation..it's hard to hold on. But all that said, I'm glad they are telling us what all is at stake.

I can't figure out the charm Night Watchman holds for me, but watch it as soon as it comes up with subs -- and sometimes before. I wish the team had come together sooner and that the Big Bad didn't make me giggle, but there it is.
On the other hand, I find Discovery of Love the most charmless of the shows currently airing -- I just can't even with those characters. Flawed is one thing ... but senseless?

yes, that's the word "charm"...there is some inexplicable thing that holds and enthralls you..even if the drama is incredibly flawed. There are so many choices the writers made which were wrong IMHO but still...am totally hooked into it.

I do think it has a certain charm, but for me it's not the randomness. I'm completely fine with the unexpected happening or not focusing on a single character's POV...but for me the randomness is often that they'll introduce something only to drop it or pick it up several episodes later when it's convenient. It's just messy.
The charm for me is really in the individual moments, certain actors, and then the fact that they did have some interesting ideas and visuals.

Hi everyone! How y'all doing?
I'm totally piled up with project deadlines and term tests but my procrastinating self have been binge watching k-dramas (Discovery of Love - more on that later, I just caught ep 10!, Three Musketeers, Plus Nine Boys) and my current flavour of the month: k-variety Abnormal Summit! I love it so much, it's been quite an eye opener to see so many foreigners speaking fluent Korean and sharing their opinions about current topics.. I find the guests quite redundant as the hosts and the panel have been pretty entertaining. Have any of beanies around seen it yet?
Okay, now on to Discovery of Love!!
[SPOILER - FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN EP 10]
I have this bad feeling that end game would be Ha Jin and Yeo Reum. This is coming from someone who used to like them but can't stand the way they refuse to communicate properly and now stan Tae Ha - Yeo Reum. I love how this writer makes everything so relatable, like Joon Ho finally FALLING IN LOVE with Sol, and with Yeo Reum not telling anybody about her dad's suicide, I relate to her so much. It's a stinking feeling.... A person's death will never be easy to get over, much less someone who chose to take his life... Without Tae Ha, she is truly alone...
Three Musketeers
I must be the only one who doesn't quite like Mi Ryung. I'm very interested in her back story with the Crown Prince, how they fall in love and how he ordered her death - but I have this feeling they are soul mates, but not right for each other. The action scenes and directing definitely need some improvement, I find the action scenes very messy and lackluster.. I adore the costumes though!
Busy month ahead, hope everyone's doing fine!! Happy weekend, all!

Kim Sul Gi. I am literally fast forwarding through everything that is not her. Part of it is that at this poitn I'm not rooting for anyone in the central quadrangle. But Kim Sul Gi and her fanclub! They are so adorable and funny!
When are they going to give her a show? I mean, I knwo she's a comedian rather than an actor, but she's been doing solid work on this and in Surplus Princess. I could see her really running circles around a lighter show.
But that said, I think all of the central quadrangle should really just take themselves off the market until they become fully functioning adults. They've got some incredibly likable actors and even so. I just can't with them.

Hello and happy friday beanies!
How are you all? I'm feeling nervouse and am back in the airport again. Off to York to be a student again. Been a short week at home. Had to have the doggie put down which was horrible and sad. Also found out that one of my male friends listen to kpop!
Kdrama toddlers style; the last episode?
- boy G and girl F were playing the chasing game. She was running in front and made sure to stop every now and then to make sure he was still following. They will soon experience sepwration as she is moving back to korea next month (will they end up together as normal drama fashion dictates? Time will tell). They also spendt a lessons feeding each other candy (that boy G had smuggled past rhe teacher).
-boy J also tried to feed girl F candy as well as trying to hold her hand and kiss her cheek. Boy G was having non of it though and made sure she got distracted quickly.
Boy M tried to get girl C to say that she liked him. He did this while doing the "cool boy lean" pose against the wall.
-the player brought roses for the teachers (for teachers day) and in true player style handed them over while kissing the hands of the teachers. He also gave one for one of the girls and made sure to hug the rest.
Dramaland:
Still behind on most except high school love on. Still loving this show. Its got a light feel tl it, and is just entertaining. I want to see more of the mythology though as its very interesting. Wonder what will happen now in it. My only draw is that its age difference is quite noticeble at times. It doesn't bothet me as much as i notice that she looks much younger than the boys and the others in the class.

Sorry to hear about your dog. That is a sad situation, but I know that sometimes there is no other alternative. ...... I have a friend who went through this recently with the family pet. The pet was at an advanced age and was experiencing severe medical issues. Several vets did not give any hope for any type of recovery.
Regarding the last installment of the toddlers .....I see the player remained true to form until the end! ...... and the "cool buy lean" *laughing* ...... I can just picture these two!

Hi Manin! Hope you have a good time at home, and good luck in York!
Kdrama: Toddler style has been a classic for the ages, so many of us in the Plus Nine Boys thread have been reminded of you when we get the nine year old's "love story" lol. And Boy G and Girl F are going to move to different countries?! This is ripe for becoming a twenty years later reunion of "first loves", you know that is what a kdrama writer would do to them! (I'm convinced the Plus Nine Boys writers hang out here and follow Kdrama: Toddler Style the way ajummas follow makjang dramas)

The “cool boy lean” pose against the wall... haha, is that the equivalent of the "kabe-don" in Japanese?
There's some hilarious mangas going around of the different techniques, and the ways it could backfire on you!

Happy Friday from Japan!
After an (almost) week of settling in, orientations, awkward foreigner moments, trying to get our ID cards to work, trying (and failing, probably) to figure out the garbage/recycling system, and meeting new friends, I am so excited to see where this semester will take us! I don't have much to say about dramas this week, considering I'm behind in everything except Three Musketeers and Reset (which are both awesome!), but I just had to tell this to someone (or ones, I suppose) who might understand the significance:
You guys, it exists. We've moved into the Flower Boy Apartments. There are two across the hall and one next door, and who knows how many others we haven't met yet -- even the landlord and the man who came and showed us how to use our gas aren't bad-looking (though definitely in the old-enough-to-be-my-father range, so...). And that's not even taking into consideration the other students at the university itself.
In other news, I am SO excited for Secret Door next week. And knowing that everyone involved is so excited too makes me even more so.
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Thanks, Manin! Yeah, it's been a little overwhelming. It's been a little easier, though, I think, because I was in Japan already for six months earlier this summer, but there's still a different feeling to it, knowing I'm here for three months instead. I'm very glad to have my roommate here with me, too -- I imagine it's a big added stress factor traveling alone.

Oh, whoops, I meant six weeks, not months...
Nope, I only know a very few words and phrases. I was teaching Conversational English before, so we didn't need to know any Japanese. But I am definitely planning on learning this time around. Did you learn a lot of Mandarin while you were in China?
Manin
September 20, 2014 at 9:48 AM
haha that changes things a little :P
I learned a bit, but not as much as I'd have liked. WE were just working so much that there was no real time to get proper lessons, so I was basically just trying to pick up what I could from daily life and interacting with the children.
I can hold a very basic and limited conversation, and I understand a bit more than what I can say myself. I am wanting to learn more though.
MistyIsles
September 20, 2014 at 11:03 PM

Good morning !
Roommate new cast members - I am a fan of Park Joon Hyung (g.o.d.) ever since his cameo in Fated To Love You, which was a wildly random comeback. As a first generation idol with charisma, you’ve got to love that he lives with his mom in LA because her food is delicious and surfing is full time play. Park Joon Hyung is cool and the closest to Mama Shin, but I am pretty sure he won’t be in the kitchen with Dinah strumming on the ol’ banjo. Jackson is Mr. loose cannon and is a master at copping air time. Look out flower boys Min-woo and Kang-joon! Nana and Sunny will likely make for bright girl group cheer all around. Japanese actor Otani Ryohei – he’s everywhere these days – will join the cast, too. Ratings suck so far, so new cast, title, and format, and Cucumber the Beagle - we'll see if it survives.
FT Island Hangul Live – I’ve compacted all 23 lessons in a post – 4 minutes of fun Korean lessons in each episode. click owl.
I Am A Man – soon to be grooms special. I absolutely love Jaesook, he’s the best host ever. I just want to say that the guy who exposed his secret that he still talks online to his ex-girlfriend, those flowers you won may be for your funeral instead of your wedding, buddy.
Discovery of Romance - Playing My Girl during Joon-ho’s crush moment on Sol is daebak.
She’s So Loveable – Rain’s so loveable. *spoilers although I don’t think it matters* The truck of doom hit so hard and so fast I thought I was mistakenly watching the middle of the drama and went back to the beginning. Nope, truck of doom really did hit hard and fast. Bad news. Then Rain was an organic farmer/chef who didn’t care about money. Then his song was still playing when he returned to the rat race after 3 years and @wham!@ flashback to the truck of doom. Then he found the sister even though she switched her name. “If it was easy, I’d do it myself,” he told the guy who tracked her down. But it really was kind of easy. She’s right here, taking care of your dog under your nose (sad part about the dog excluded).
I am still so disappointed over the misleading title, Pride and Prejudice.
Three Musketeers – the crown prince’s smile is killer. Love Dal Hyang’s loyalty to the king and the suspense of how the duel will bond him to the Three Musketeers.
My brother was telling me about a survival show and I mentioned Laws of the Jungle. He stopped me and said, "you watch a Korean version of everything." Pretty much.

Hi Everyone!
I hope you are all doing well today.
The sweltering heat has subsided somewhat, but the last 5 days or so were impossible! Glad to know we'll be experiencing more pleasant weather for the next couple of days.
The drama-watching continues and I'm enjoying every minute of it! ...... Watched this week:
Temptation - Hong-joo, what are you doing?? ...... It's unfortunate that she doesn't know or realize that if you make a decision it should be one that you're not unhappy or bitter about during every hour of your day. ...... I almost can't look away ....... I'm just curious as to where the writer will take this.
It's Okay, It's Love - I have 4 more eps to watch. ....... Pain and sadness here we come ....... but oh so good.
Fated To Love You - When the drama planets align, you get this. ...... What a joy it is to watch this drama. ....... I haven't mentioned it during the past weeks but it's not because I haven't noticed it, on a purely frivolous note, Gun and Daniel are just rockin' those outfits. Gosh, those two men look good.
That's about it for now. ....... Everyone take care and have a great Friday!

Is Temptation good? NO
I deeply regret watching Temptation. It was toxic, taxing, and stomach-turning. The writing was glaringly inconsistent and characters suffered from personality transplants/swapped personalities.
Temptation is totally a fanservice for fans of Choi Ji-Woo & Kwon Sang-Woo's previous drama Stairway to Heaven. It was crystal clear that the storyline was maneuvered and shifted to ensure accommodation of a different outcome from their prior ill-fated/doomed OTP ending. It was hard and in the end a losing battle for some people to easily distinguish, see, and accept their Temptation characters as separate and distinct entities from their characters in Stairway to Heaven.
If you want Stairway to Heaven Part Deux, then you'll probably like it. However, if you watched it because of how it was advertised as a totally unconnected and autonomous drama then therein is where the problem and frustration lies.

Any Scots on? What's your feeling on the Big Vote for Independence? Must say, I'm surprised the Vote was a "No", but then again, I don't know the details. Anyone care to explain?
I'm having serious withdrawals. I miss FTLY and IOTL so much!! My Wed-Thurs seems so vague. I will start She's So Lovable today.
Joseon Gunman - I'm up to ep 14. Like someone already said, it's really is quite a random story line. Not very cohesive at all! The major problem I have is that Yoon Kang "left" for 3 years. So how does he believe that just cutting his hair and putting on a pair of glasses will be a good disguise to fool everyone???? Dude, your face is still the same! Just saying your're not somebody doesn't make it so. LMAO.
Night Watchman - Another RANDOM SERIES!!!! Also up to ep 14 and not much of anything has happened. Each time you think "Now it's about to be on", we get more stares and a bunch of nothing. I love all the ghosts~ Smallpox is no joke! I love the Schizophrenic King (he's done quite a fine job with his acting out 2 deranged roles). I heard this drama was extended to 24 episodes, is that true?
Jang Bori Is Here - I'm surprised I stuck with this weekend drama. Really, I only enjoy Secretary Moon get revenge on Min Jung. Jang Bori continues to be foolish in many ways - it's really hard to watch her acting sometimes. Will be glad when this is over.
Have a great weekend!!

I'm not a Scot but I did follow the referendum vote pretty closely. My guess is that the Yes side had an outline of where they wanted to go after becoming independent, but concrete plans weren't, like the currency question. Unlike a lot of people , I don't think that the question of independence is over for a generation. If the SNP and others with the Yes campaign can come up with firm plans, then I think the results may be a reverse of this vote's outcome.
Again, not a Scot, so take my opinion with the requisite grain of salt.

I'm with you…after FTLY, High school king savvy, MND have finished, I'm seriously at loss on what to watch. I went and watched CHuno, which was like everybody said, awesome in the beginning. I got to the middle, and went to read all the recaps…and then found out…oh God! Some important people died! *gasp* which for me, made the whole drama too bleak for my enjoyment. So I copped out. Ugh… I wish it's a rule in kdrama, where: if you make your hero go through crap after crap, then you'd better give him happy in the end, da** it! But it's not…so yeah…I still love kdrama anyway...

And I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking Bo-ri is a bit dull in the head (I always chuckle at the person who keeps posting "Dumbbori" in the comment line section of Viki)...you're absolutely right, it's hard to watch. So I recently started Ruler of Your Own World and so far even though I'm only three episodes in I love it. It's been on my radar as something I might love since I started watching dramas 3 years ago, however I've been hesitant to watch it as I quickly learned I should avoid "classic" dramas like the plague, with a few exceptions. In this case though I'm kicking myself for putting it off so long as it's so refreshing and everyone in the cast is wonderful and so young. I could easily see it joining Thank You, Flowers For My Life, Soul/Hon and Answer Me 1997, as the 5th Korean drama to make my all time favorite Asian drama list.
My Secret Hotel- I love it so much and I'm so happy Soo-ah decided to run away as if the wedding had happened no one in the show nor I the viewer would have been happy.
My Spring Day- This shoe seemingly has the mix of classicness and newness down I hope it continues to surprise me by being so awesome.
My Loveable Girl- Unlike My Spring Day it just feels old, though I still kind of liked the first week. However if it continues to just feel old it will probably go crazy fairly soon annoying me so much I have to drop it.
Blade Man- While watching episode 3 I felt like I was watching a completely different drama until the last 10-20 minutes, did that happen to anyone else? I haven't seen 4 yet.

I made the mistake of watching Blade Man with my husband--who walked out of episode #1, disgusted. I said, "Javabeans said episode 2 should have been the one the series started on." He looked at me like I was crazy. "Who's Javabeans?" (Saying it out loud didn't carry the respect I give her as I read this site.)
I think I'm going to have to watch it (if I continue to watch it) on the sly--like I'm an addict (yeah. I know. I am.) by myself, in the dark, under the blankets in the guest room, on my phone-----where I go to eat the expensive chocolate I sneak into the house.

Blademan's 1st episode was one of the worst ones I've ever seen. After 4, it is clear this is a variant of the Beauty and the Beast story with the back story being how the male lead became the beast.
I started watching Blademan as a guilty pleasure and now am pleasantly surprised as to the direction the plot is going. I'm not sure about the quality of the acting of the leads but given the character growth that appears likely to be forthcoming, both leads have a real challenge ahead of them

I'm just on episode 3 of Ruler of Your Own World as well and am also loving it. Refreshing is right. The actors look like real people as opposed to creations of plastic surgery, they are wearing real clothes as opposed to designer duds and they are moving through a real city. It's what I liked most about Triangle in the first 5 or 6 episodes until that drama plunged off the deep end of bad writing and direction.
I'm really enjoying Blade Man because it's almost impossible to predict where it is going. The tonal shifts are odd to say the least. It is like a fairy tale or rather a weird pastiche of several fairy tales but twisted somehow.

Hello all! I'm on the last week of my vacation here in Korea and it's been very interesting.
I'm watching a lot of dramas but my comment here is about how Temptation ends terribly so don't bother and that Discovery of Romance is a mess because EVERYONE has secrets (though some like Taeha/Yeoreum's past are more WOW) and they all need therapy.

Take episode 10 for example: In the beginning he admits that it's all about him and he can't let Yeoreum go and be happy...YOU BROKE UP FIVE YEARS AGO AND DIDN'T ATTEMPT TO GET BACK TOGETHER WHEN SHE TRIED TO CONTACT YOU MULTIPLE TIMES AND SHE'S BEEN IN A RELATIONSHIP FOR A YEAR SO YOU DON"T NEED TO SEND HER ANYWHERE BECAUSE SHE'S NOT YOURS WTF?
And then at the end when he's all let's break up properly...YOU ALREADY BROKE UP...just because you were too "busy" and didn't care or understand why doesn't mean you weren't broken up...OMG...his personality irks me SO VERY MUCH
On Hajin's side it's confirmed with his talk with his Mom that this adoption secret is a cultural bias situation since she asked if Yeoreum agreed to get married yet...i.e. the adoption secret could lead to his rejection (which I want to say isn't true but who knows at this point).
The way he chose not to confront the issue and just took care of Yeoreum made me like, "Han Yeoreoum...I'll take Hajin off your hands"

To me, Kang Tae Ha's development is the most mature one among others. Sure he's kind of jerk at the beginning. But he really try to figure out why Han Yeo Reum hates him all the time. Finally he got the answer (her father's dead where he wasn't there when she really needed him the most) by himself because every time he asked her, the answer will be nothing. However, he accepted at least he had mistakes. He apologized sincerely, he wish her happiness and suggested her to let current boyfriend and best friends know more about her. I hope he'll get happy ending at the end of the story because he deserve it.

I agree with you abt KTH. I can't stand Ha Jin instead...she's not his real sister?? And the whole debacle when he chose to walk AR's home and left YR? Just speechless...
I don't understand either why KTH ignored YR for all those years...but perhaps it's the lacking of the writers..?

Good morning, Beanies,
Woke up to wildfire smoke. Can't see farther than about 1/2 mile. Yuck. The fire is about 50 miles away, but the wind blew the smoke here last night. Guess I'll be spending the day indoors... (drama time).
Only watching Grandpas Over Flowers Investigation Team. It's actually better than I expected. I love the grandpas. They are so vain. I'm on episode 10, so the danger has really kicked in. Of course, the villain is completely ridiculous--reminds me of the villain from My Love From the Star. Just so random with his killing. Oh, also, I am so glad that Hee Cheul cut his hair. That Cherry Oppa hair from WGM was driving me crazy. He's so much handsomer with short, black hair.
Oh, I did watch Episode 1 of Yoo Na's Street, but had to put it on hold while I am in the mountains. I like the cast.
For some reason I am looking forward to Modern Farmer. Is there a reason for that (besides HongKi)?

Happy OT Friday all!
It's K-entertainment Confessional List time! (Because who doesn't love a good list?) This is that special corner where kdrama fans can spill their darkest secrets about things that everyone and their grandma seem to LOVE, and you...just don't. Fear not the judgement, tomatoes, and boos coming this way since I have warded them all off with my special incantations, spells, and hokey pokey magic. :D
1. My Sassy Girl- the female lead who irritated me to the point of no return. It's been so many years and I still can't bring myself to watch anything that actress is in.
2. Coffee Prince- I thought it was just...average? Like, meh.
3. Best Love- It was funny at the beginning but quickly got old. CSW was OTT and GHJ was bland.
No one agrees with me? Nobody? Oh..well... *crickets chirping*
Please share you list of Unpopular Opinions too! :D

"Best Love"
I kept hearing great things about that, but I thought it was stupid. And it was another one where I figured if the female lead chose the jerk over the sweet, supportive, and quite handsome second male lead, she was crazy.
My confessional?
1. "Fated to Love You" - I don't think it's possible for me to hate a series any more than that one. Oh. My. God. From the freaky laugh to the ridiculous non-communication, to the are-you-kidding-me disease factor...OY. Hatey-hate-hated it.
2. "Boys Over Flowers" - The acting was awful, the writing was worse (and the styling came in a close third - my god at the hairstyles.) I didn't last two full episodes.
3. "High School King of Savvy" - This show's premise gave me the heebie-jeebies. Maybe just because I'm 51 with kids around that age, but a teacher getting involved (even unknowingly) with a high school student? That is NOT OK. ::shudder::

I enjoyed "Best Love" a lot, but am totally with you on the other three you mention -- biggest disappointment for me was FTLY and the stupid disease twist. Re: Boys Over Flowers, the leads bored me beyond the telling of it, but loved the Kim Bum story line and have been known to re-watch only those portions.
I hated Que Sera -- ugh on so many levels. But loved loved loved the equally twisted Secret.

I really didn't like You From Another Star. It was beautiful looking and the production values were outstanding. The writing was professional and the actors competent. It just seemed to me to be very cold at the heart and I could never connect emotionally with any of the characters except for Kim Hyun-soo as the young Song-yi and the Joseon Widow. She put her heart and soul into that role and she elevated the early scenes. I kept expecting Jun Ji-hyun to somehow start displaying the qualities that made the young widow so compelling as a character but she never did. I suspect she's just not as good an actress as Kim Hyun-soo but that's my personal opinion as well. I could easily see why Do Min-joon fell in love with the widow. I just never got why he fell in love with Cheon Song-yi.

I still intend to write the one thoroughly negative review of My Sassy Girl one day, because I did not like that movie at all. But I've watched stuff with the actress since, she does not bother me.
I've always hated the second lead love-story line in Coffee Prince and skipped their scenes whenever rewatching. The main storyline was decent, some parts good, some parts average.
I also have some actors whose stuff I can't watch because I was "scarred" by one of their works.
---Jung Ryeo-won because of her character in My Name Is Kim Sam Soon. (This is one hang-up I'll get over one day. I'm nearly there.)
---Ji Hyun-Woo because of A Thousand Kisses (which I call the-drama-that-must-not-be-named). I won't get over this.
---Cha Soo-Yeon also because of A Thousand Kisses. Did watch a film with her after (didn't know she was in it), where she played a completely different character so that helped. But I half-avoid her.
Best Love was okay.... fell apart as it went on.
Recently I dropped Pasta, which always comes highly recommended, after about 10 episodes. I wanted to watch it for Gong Hye-jin and while I liked her character sufficiently much and wasn't too put off by the male lead despite his arrogance, I just got tired of the male and female second leads. The female one was annoying as hell, and the male one just a lying creep. I just didn't want to suffer through another 10 episodes of that.
There's a lot of the really popular stuff that I drop like a hot potato because I just don't have the patience for certain stock characters and tropes, or über-contrived scenarios. I can't watch for someone's prettiness alone. I need a story. And actors that can act.

The saguk political thing is only a very small part of this drama -it's in the first episode, gets a few minutes per episode after, and takes up a chunk of one or 2 of the last episodes....If that's your only qualm, please PLEASE try it. Oh God I know what you mean, I also disliked JRW after MIKSS. -
The actress(she was the reflection of evil in Feast of the Gods and got away with it) that plays the princess in Three Musketeer. And a lot of other actresses that play the antagonist.
But over the years I learned to get over that, a character doesn't reflect on the actress; they're totally unrelated things. So for example I discovered that Jun Reo-won is a great actress and so is Lee So Yeon.

Flower Boy Next Door- The plot was completely senseless. I only watched for the Flower Boys (of course!) but thought Enrique was the worst of the bunch. I love that I got introduced to "Right Now!" unnie that is in Discovery of Romance and Surplus Princess. She is a gem!
Bride of the Century - Another, very predictable drama. Very makjang heavy, but it introduced me to Sung Huyk who is now on Jang Bori
Hotel King - WTH? That's how I felt while watching every episode. IDK, Lee Dong-wook is definitely pretty but he chooses awful dramas. I equate him to korean version of James Franco - has the ability to be great but chooses mediocre (at best) material. Scent of a Woman was interesting, but not because of him.

Thank you for opening the confessional!
What shall I start with?
Fated to Love You - as much as I hated the original, I hated the episodes of the Korean version that I watched. Why? It was wrong from the get-go. Elders pressuring people to breed, marrying a person you don't know only to be a jerk towards your spouse, lots of artificial angst. No actor in the world can make it sensible in my eyes.
Flower Boy Next Door - again - the heroine's biggest problem was herself and all she did for several years was to nurture her trauma. My take is - want to be a hermit - be a proud one and enjoy your peace, you don't like being a hermit - go look for help. And washing by hand is not an effective way to save money in moderate climate ;P. As for the male lead, he should be put into a wheel like a hamster and provide energy, otherwise, he was just a pain in the behind.
My Love From The Stars - boooooooooooring. Except for JJH drunken antics it's one big fat Been There Done That. Though the Nail Hyung was fascinating.
SAGEUKS in general: in my five(and a half) years of watching dramas I haven't been able to finish even one sageuk series. They are either inaccessible to the foreigner me (and that is actually OK with me, I know many films and series so Polish that one would need several years of studying our history and culture to get into them), or they disregard the spirit of their time and are merely a contemporary drama in ancient costumes. This type is pathetic. Moreover in both cases there are cliched elements that make sageuks unappealing - palace machinations, power-hungry ministers, their vicious daughters and scary matriarchs. Admittedly, scacry matriarchs are seldom welcome guests, but in sageuks they are made even scarier by their wigs and the way they usually sit.
Bride of the Century - cliched to death, acted without much spark, made little sense in the "realistic" parts. Bleh.
Good Doctor - the way I see it, the show mostly used cheap tricks to wring compassion out of the viewers. What was really interesting to explore, was trivialised or omitted. And there were really absurd "cases" that make IOIL a neatly researched drama in comparison.

Totally agree with you about sageuks. I can't watch them because I don't have an idea about the basic history of that time and knowledge of figures involved...and yes, the cliched elements don't help. Also, there seems to be a standard way in how a lot of actors portray certain stock characters found in sageuks, which disappoints me because there's no individuality in their portrayal.
Tamra the Island is the only exception for me, and although it's more of a fantasy sageuk, there was an undeniable charm I found in the setting at Jeju with female divers being the main source of income for their land. Also Park Kyu, anyone? :D
FTLY- I can relate. The premise is just outlandish and involves too much unneccesary pain for the female lead.

I honestly only vaguely remember "My Sassy Girl." There seemed to be many copycat movies after it, featuring a similar story line, so I guess it made its mark.
"Coffee Prince" was often cute, but was far too predictable... And a lot of the nuance/humor of "Best Love" was probably lost on me, as I'm not Korean and made do with Mandarin subtitles. Still, the immature hero proved too annoying for me to ever finish it.
As for dramas I just can't stand, "Winter Sonata" probably ranks number one of all time. That whole "series" of season-titled dramas: "Autumn Story," "Summer Scent," "Winter Sonata"--was there ever a spring installment??--were ALL plodding, tiresome, redundant tear-jerkers that managed to successfully conquer other Asian (non-Korean) audiences due to their pretty lead actors. And, whadya know?, I'm guilty of that last, too, cos obviously I cringed my way through all three.

Oh great!
Confessions of a mythomaniac
Yes I've hated many many dramas that other people "loooved"
Let me start from the beginning
1) Delightful girl chun hyang: It's my first kdrama ever and I dropped it at ep 10. Re-watched it recently. Still hate it. Uhm Tae Woong(was he really in the drama. I'm still holding on to the hope that it was a doppleganger). I get it that the drama was trend-setter or whatnot but I just couldn't get past the non-believability factor of the mountain of obstacles the leads had to go through. And the almost misses, It irked me to no end. The chemistry was good but the leads need to be together for us to enjoy the chemistry and not separated by misunderstanding/second leads/land/sea etc etc.
2)Flower boy Ramyun shop: I get it people love it! BUT Cha chi soo would probably get slapped and not kissed in real life. He was so annoying, I mean I liked the fluff of the story. But i never took it seriously, the female lead had no backbone. I did enjoy the metaphors, jokes etc it was definitely well written in that aspect.
3)Coffee Prince: My mom still re watches it but I swear one time was enough for me. I think I would blame the one episode extension a lot, after episode 12 the drama dragged. Gong Yoo was fantastic no doubt, I even would say Yoon did a spectacular job, but I just never was interested in their story, It never pulled me in. Maybe because I watched it 5 years later the actual release but I still find it a little underwhelming.
4)You from another star: When I heard the news of the remake I thought was it that good. I had completely forgotten about this drama. I wouldn't say it was bad but it was very forgettable. Even though it aired this year only I don't remember much of it. The actors were not bad, it was produced beautifully. But what turned me off was the chemistry, I know many people love them, but I never understood why Do manager fell for her because she was nosy and the first woman to mess around in his life? I just didn't get it why Song Yi had to wear heels, It made Kim Soo Hyun look like a toddler.
5)That winter the wind blows: Yikes. My brother is not actually my brother but I'm not aware of that and I still love him and I'm all over him, feeling him up, sleeping in the same bed, and I want you to believe I'm not weird. The end.
6)Boys over flower: Oh God! Why people why? There is nothing good in this. I would not compliment anything in it. everything was just BAd BAd Worst. The acting, the writing, the music, the sin of being a remake of a good thing.
7)My sassy girl: Cha Tae Hyun please go back to the start of the movie and save another girl please let her DIE. She annoyed me would be an understatement and I watched this movie after my first kmovie My Little Bride back in 2009 and it left a sour taste in my mouth would be another understatement.
I'm sure I hate move things than this but right now I only remember this much!
Maybe we should continue this in...

I have to agree with mems (and your reasons) for #2 & 3. I'm neutral on Sassy Girl because I don't really remember much, it's been so long! lol
My additions...not in any order.
1) You From Another Star. JJH was the only bright spot, I never got into the story. Dropped it midway, marathoned it the week before the finale...and I still didn't care for it.
2) Answer Me 1994. Same ol' recycled "who's the hubby?" trope that took over the story. Didn't feel as drawn to the characters.
3) My Girl. I don't care for LDH at all, and I still don't like her in anything (watched Chuno for JH and OJH, skipped over her).
4) Heirs. I don't know if this qualifies (as in something everybody liked), but I couldn't give a damn about it.
5) Boys Over Flowers. The hype overrode a horribly written story, horrible acting, and it still bewilders me how some think it was the shiznit. Nope.
6) A Gentleman's Dignity. It reminded me of the male version of Sex and the City, which I didn't like.
7) Faith. It was a mash-up, but I didn't care for it either way.

I was into Man from the Stars till the romance started then I realized I just loved JJH's zany acting and didn't care for the couple together. KSH was alright, just didn't grab me and because the female character was just stellar, they didn't really match to me. Also KSH seemed like a boy compared to her. But then I realised > Ah stupid football (not really bc I like it just not when it interferes with Running Man :P) always starts earlier than the real event -.- But oh well gave me a chance to catch up on some stuff :D

And happy birthday!! (Sorry I missed it the first time, I read too quickly at work.)

I am months, months of searching for a korean drama that I won't drop by episode 2, I have found my new crack.
My Spring Days. That drama is so awesome. It is a family drama and a romantic comedy. Great chemistry and funny and touching.
I love it. If you are looking for something to watch and gave up, try my spring day.

Viewing this week:
"Night Watchman" - I'm still loving this series, and glad to see Our Heroes in Night Watchmen uniforms at last. I have a big love for 'chosen family' stories, and this one is hitting my sweet spot in a big way.
"My Secret Hotel" - I'm glad the mystery is back. :) I also loved the visual of the second murder victim's blood mixing with the rose petals. As I said on another thread, I loved the subtle commentary on the two marriages - in the first one, a dead body was dropped on it, and in the second, there was hidden pain and beauty. But me and my second lead issues, oh boy - I spent both eps this week hiding my eyes because I knew the second male lead was going to get his heart broken. Oy.
"Discovery of Love" - I'm shipping Sol and her bestie. The rest of them need some serious therapy.
"Surplus Princess" - I'm glad that the sad ep is over, though my second lead issues are about to go into overdrive. (Seriously, why can't I ever ship the lead?) I watched the unsubbed episode, and thought that Unemployed Horndog assumed Ha Ni was pregnant. I thought my version was better than the real one, because it would have made the tense scene between Horndog and Chef even funnier. Alas.
"Worlds Within" - Strong female characters and interesting commentary. Plus, Hyun Bin.
Wishing I Could Watch:
"Busan Line" - Gong Yoo and zombies? Yes, ma'am!
K-drama Moment:
My sweet, sweet husband bought me a Chromecast for my birthday yesterday - now I can watch Viki shows on my television instead of the computer! To celebrate, I made the entire family watch multiple episodes of "Surplus Princess" (the 13 year old is glued to it because he has a crush on Jo Bo Ah, the college girls think Kim Min-Kyo is Hi-larious - my oldest said "I want Ji Yong to be the lead!" - and my husband thinks it's really funny that they keep describing Song Jae Rim as looking like a Praying Mantis. The 9 year old was crushed that I wouldn't let her watch the mermaid series (because there's too much butt-ogling. I'm such a mean Mom.)

Sol and her both suitors are adorable. Actually, when they high-fived at one moment, I was reminded of an old song that says, it is better not to fall on one's own, but to have a friend to accompany and fall in love along with you. Because a girl is so difficult to handle and court. Both guys might be terrific co-suitors.

Hi all:
They say you can't miss what you never had but I always get so gooey thinking of tons of frends/family sitting in a large kitchen or backyard making kimchi. This is something i would so have loved to do. Forgive me for waxing all mighta-shoulda-coulda-been nostalgic but was rewatching Flower Boy Ramyun Shop.
Really liking Night Watchman and id get a bit of a jolt to finally find out what Sadam is after. Turning people into animals, no less. Metaphorically? Literally? Whatever...this has got to be the villain of the year. (Although folks say the liar in Jang Bo Ri is pretty villainous, but I haven't watched it. Wondering if Prince Wolgang will get all love-spelled as his dad did. Hoping not, hoping the spirit-friends and spirit mom will save him from woman scorned. Kinda wish the king would stop being so one-note. All he does is pace his bedroom and shriek. Liking the mythology in this world.
Loving "What's With this Family?" Really sweet and good all around, although i dislike know-it-all innocent country girls coming into folks' lives and ordering them to befriend their enemies. Not sure what they'll do to fill the 50 episodes but am hoping Doc's former girlfriend doesn't up and get pregnant.
Plus Nine Boys: Not liking Da In. Am hoping she realies her crappy communication skills and notion that men should be able to read her mind were the cause of her past relationship failures. Am hoping this new realiation might cause her to somehow be reconciled with her ex-hubby.And am really hoping the Assistant PD in Kwang Soo's office ends up with him "next year" when he's +40.
Waiting for this week's episode of Time Spiral. Waiting for Secret Door and (long wait, i know) Soo Hyuk as gorgeous adulterous carpenter.
Gotta catch up on Yoona's Street and some drama specials.
Reset: Ah me! This drama! The coincidences, the convenient plotting! But I'm hooked!
Three Musketeers: So hating that it's once a week. The action doesn't keep me coming back, but the emotions do-- especially the emotions of the Crown Princess.
That's about it. Have a great weekend, all.

Yay, finally somebody mentioned Time Spiral! I am loving the first two episodes, can't wait for the next episodes. And it's cool because each episode is only 30 minutes. I think that Shuya character is borderline creepy, but it did make me look up Gackt (he's 14 years older than me and I still find him insanely attractive), which led me to watch Akumu Chan (loved it!), which led me to Kei Kitagawa, and that is why I'm watching her old drama Mop Girl now.
K-drama wise, I like My Secret Hotel, but the scenes with Eun Joo and the other crazy reporter stalker just put me off. And while every one thinks that Hae Young and Sang Hyo make a cute couple, I don't really ship them. I'd rather watch a drama about how Nam Sang Hyo runs a successful hotel business with Jo Sung Geum :P
I've stopped Surplus Princess for now, will wait until it's finished airing before I binge-watch it. Cannot stand the thought of Song Jae Rim being second lead.
I might just start watching Furin Kazan just to see more Gackt.

I agree about Plus Nine Boys. There's this part of Da-in's voiceover when she's telling the girls that "all she could do was run away"...just as they were showing a flashback of her hitting him with roses. I'm like, honey, if that's your definition of running away then I am concerned. I don't completely dislike her, I'm just afraid that she won't acknowledge her mistakes. At this point, I think I just want them to rehash a few things and find the closure necessary to move on.

Yeah I'm nor pleased with the fiancee either. She seems totally okay with having everything she wants bought and paid for for her. Not that she needs redemption but the writers better make her earn the family's love. If not, then she and kang jae are perfect for each other...and since he's already looking smitten with her, her money will just make their love extra "special."

Re: What's With This Family.
I am kinda hoping Doc's ex-gf will show up later on down the road, pregnant with his kid. That'll throw a monkey wrench into his plans, after dumping her to move on up...and I don't get what fiancée sees in him that she would want to marry him (or maybe I missed the ep where that was explained? I might've). I mean, she witnessed firsthand how crappy he treats his family...which I would say would not bode well for her in the future.
I don't really care for the chon-tak girl, she still seems out of place in the story despite the first ep saying otherwise. The writers should have taken a cue with a show like Ojakgyo Brothers, where the outsider girl was the catalyst to the happenings in the family...here, the girl just annoys me. I know they're trying to build it up so that in the end, she will likely end up with Dal-bong...but that's still kinda pretentious to force the relationship, imo.
Btw...where are you watching Reset? I've kinda forgotten about it that I had to look it up and go "OH, that's what Reset is!" lol. I think I lost track of that, in my excitement for Bad Boys and Secret Door :P

Hello, beanies!!
It's been almost a month (post-FTLY) that I didn't enjoy new dramas and only watch the old ones. Maybe more dramas to watch is actually less dramas I can watch? I don't even have time to check all, but new eps keep coming and I'm lost on it...
Three Musketeers: till ep 2, I really enjoy Lee Jin Wook's performance here. He's a delight to watch.
My Lovely Girl: all cliches rolled into one. Only watching this for Ran. Wonder if Krystal n other casts can make me stick through it till the end. I still hope it won't turn into Trot Lovers 2, or like my friends said The Heirs 2, because so many cliches and poor Candy Heroine.
Because I enjoy Empress Ki so much, especially Ha Ji Won and Ji Chang Wook's acting, I'm marathoning their dramas now. Well, for JCW, I'm marathoning Warrior Baek Dong Soo and soon he will have new drama on KBS, Healer.
Then for HJW, I marathon Secret Garden and WHIB although I already know the spoilery ending. So Ji Sub and Jo In Sung look like they never aged. LOL
I'm still behind so many dramas, My Secret Hotel, Plus Nine Boys, High School King, etc.
Btw anyone who love the shows, please tell me why everyone seems to enjoy either Blade Man or Spring Days? Are they really good because they're different or they're different therefore it's better than the rests? I'm curious because even javabeans enjoys Blade Man.

Blade man is "different", now that doesn't mean it's good. I have watched 3 eps and the first was the absolute worst. I don't love it, because how can i love a show where i dislike the 2 leads acting??? Its tolerable though
Now, My Spring Days is a delight. Beautifully acted, the acting is so fluid, genuine chemistry and warmth. It feels like springtime indeed (pardon the pun). It is going to get HEAVY down the line because its a melo and its plot is makjangy enough, but for now i choose to put my trust in the crew and follow their path. Its my best out of the new 3 wed/thur dramas and i highly recommend it.
My Lovely Girl is tired. But Rain!!!

Blade Man is a seldom case of a comedy. I mean, all you get are romcoms, and BM hasn't shown much of the rom-element as of yet. Moreover, the drama doesn't take itself too seriously (<3 Secretary Go) and doesn't pretend to be something it is not. That's refreshing.
Spring Days is nice, because it has a natural, low-key charm. The story isn't innovative, but is being told in a skillful manner, akin to some Japanese slice-of-life doramas. Oh, and the characters are very, very likable (who has seen a young teenage daughter chastising her dad?)

what really got to me was the scene where Bom-yi notices that the daughter has stained her clothes, and ties her shirt around the kid's waist to cover it up.
It's such a small detail, but so relatable - even if it hasn't happened to us, it's close enough to real life that teenage girls get worried about staining clothes when they're on their period and maybe aren't experts at dealing with it.

I think his story is tragic one. The oldest sister is funny with Director and can't wait to see their romance blossoms. Dang, I totally hate that woman who marry the old guy. Right now, I'm watching "Hell on Wheels" (about the laying of the railroad in the western US during the late 1800's), "Doctor Who", and "Face Off" (a reality competition for makeup effects artists). Next week I'm looking forward to the new season of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." , and then "Grimm" and "Gracepoint".
Instead of "American Horror Story", I think I'll just go re-watch "Carnivale" (an old HBO series set in a traveling carnival in the '30's which was a sweeping story of good vs evil. So. Good.)

I loved Carnivàle and was very disappointed that it was cancelled after 2 seasons. In my opinion, it is still one of the best shows produced by HBO.
For those curious about Carnivàle: It was rare to have a series set in the United States during the Great Depression and Dust Bowl dramatized on tv. The show vis-à-vis the lives of a traveling carnival and a preacher and his congregation depicted the battle between good and evil and the struggle between free will and destiny.

You and me both. I loved everything about that series - the ambiguity of the nature of the 'prophets' (being evil didn't prevent them from doing good; being good didn't mean they didn't do bad things), the visuals - especially the way the carnival went from washed-out in the day to fairyland at night, my favorite dysfunctional married couple, ever - Rita Sue and Stumpy, the flat-out gorgeous title sequence...just everything.
I also can't understand how Michael Anderson - the Carnival boss, Samson - doesn't work continuously - his acting was fantastic.

The episode where one of Rita Sue and Stumpy's loose and flirtatious daughter went missing. Prior to her abduction, the daughter had bragged about how she didn't have a problem with men lusting after her or wanting sex from her. Sadly, it came to pass in the form of infinity (eternally persisting forever). That's when I knew Carnivàle was deep, different, and a game changer.

What's with this Family: Wow, we're so different on this:
You like the older son? I really don't. He got everything and is so whiny about his bad luck. The father seems to have done a lot for older son at the expense of younger son's education. And older son doesn't even realize it. He's very entitled, i think. I understand he was using his ol girlfriend for sex and that he was upfront with her about it. But it still kinda reeks that he would drop her like that....and for a career move. I think he will fall for the new girl and maybe become a nicer person because he will finally fall in love with someone but it still makes me wary of him.
I think Dal Bong, the youngest son, is the one who shows care for his dad, respect for his Aunt. The only person he treats badly is his enemy from way back when. The sister is a bit too self-involved. Sure, she's strong. But I think she has a lot to learn about herself. She needs to fail and fall really hard at least once.
I like the older woman who is marrying the chairman. She might have some evil up her sleeve but so far, she's not so bad.

Oh, I'm completely with you on What's with this Family. I can't find it in me to like the older brother. I find the lack of respect he shows the father who put him through college reprehensible. Don't get me wrong, if the show works to redeem him later on, I'll probably come to like him because I'm pretty lenient (although imo the actor isn't really doing the character any favors). But seriously, his poor me act, when a majority of the people in the world are much worse off then him? Can't stand it.
And I love Dal Bong! He definitely has growing to do, but he's the only one taking steps in the right direction. And I find his respect for and desire to carry on his father's profession to be lovely :)

I don't think he is whiny but he does not be pushed around by his dad. I think that he feels his dad is too overbearing sometimes and he wants a lil bit space to breathe. That is why I think he wants to get married and due to his father is pressuring him to get married too. I think it is hard to read his mind as he has a blank face and you can not tell what he is thinking. Which I think that is a good acting well for me. The older woman is bad but yes I do agree that she is not that bad. Let's see how she is this week-end episodes.

But I'm looking forward to the new season, how the situation is gonna be with their new identities and with Samaritan online.
24 is going to have another follow-up? I thought it just aired over the summer...which I only watched the first ep and got distracted with kdramas and baseball ;P I watched all the previous 24s but this one didn't really have the same feel, imo.

Hi all, happy Friday!
Been slow on Saikou no Rikon, only finished ep 5 yesterday. So far so good, and I'm liking most of the characters - Eita's Mitsuo is really annoying though! I love Yuka and how she tells it like it is. Ryo and Akari... super messy, and I wonder how they're going to sort it out. I quite like Ryo, think it's because of Ayano Go's portrayal... and the floppy hair helps! It totally works for him, like how Tamaki Hiroshi's Chiaki hairstyle made him totally hot and sexy ♥ (hehh, I have a thing about hairstyles on hot guys...)
Also got a crash course in Rurouni Kenshin - watched the 2012 film and the Kyoto Inferno sequel. Both were enjoyable and I liked the fight choreography. Apparently the action choreographer was the disciple of Donnie Yen, which explains why it all felt so old-school HK (by old-school, I also mean sans unnecessary CGI). The fight scenes were realistic and crisp, had good pacing and were a pleasure to watch.
The actors generally acquitted themselves well and I found Sato Takeru a believable Kenshin, although he is not as convincing when he starts preaching about how it's better not to kill. Takei Emi is a miscast, I found her Kaoru annoying and couldn't believe this girl was supposed to be running a dojo and able to kick some ass on her own. But still, I'll be looking forward to the third film.

Takei Emi is pretty much always miscast. She has been the "it" girl for a while, but her acting is limited and she's just... bland.
Takeru is better, but his acting range is not particularly wide, especially compared to some of this peers. He isn't pushing himself much either, so I'm not sure we'll see him improve much in the future.
Ayano Gou... I just watched him in The Light Only Shines There (Japan's submission for the Best Foreign Language Oscar) and my appreciation of him just went up ten-fold. A movie bleak as hell by the way, but totally up my alley.

I totally understand. I know a lot of folks with strong opinions who are really very sweet and easygoing. Your comments don't put me off. You know what you like and you know what you dislike and you speak your mind. It's always good to deal with people when you feel their honesty and you know where they stand. Then you see their truest personality. Besides, even with your strong opinions you're always polite. A wonderful thing in a world where people are either rude or wussy about showing their real selves.

I like Ayano Go. Haven't seen many works of his, but have liked what I've seen so far. He was pretty good in the first Kenshin film as well.
I agree that Sato Takeru's acting range is a bit limited. Throughout the two Kenshin films, I find I enjoy him better in action, when he's battling the baddies and all. I particularly liked his fight with Ayano's character Gein, and also the whole Megumi rescue bit, which was pretty kickass (the Kaoru rescue kinda paled in comparison). The 'oro" bit was funny though.
Takei Emi... blahx100. I was on the Kenshin-Megumi ship, even though I know it's not canon.

From what I heard, Takeru really prepared for the sword-fighting/action bits. That's great, but I just always find when it comes to conveying emotions / dialogue, he doesn't go that far.
His Tonbi was a lovely drama, but between him, his 'child' versions and the father, he was the weakest bit. Odagiri Joe and Sometani Shota outshone him in Real (which was a mess anyhow) and they had about 5 minutes screen time. Beck, Q10, Liar and His Lover... not much substance but watchable, but not much there in the acting. He needs to go beyond manga adaptations (esp. shoujo manga adaptations) and take some risks.
Ayano... I've seen him in quite a few smaller roles (Rich Man Poor Woman, Story of Yonosuke, Humanoid Monster Bem, Long Goodbye) – and some bigger/lead roles (Saikou no Rinkon, Snow White Murder Case, Soratobu Kouhoushitsu and now The Light Only Shines There). There's a lot of stuff of his that I'm interested in seeing, because his project choices are all over the place, often offbeat – indie, dark and not at all 'safe' characters or films. I started taking notice of him with Soratobu Koushoushitsu, which was a slice-of-life work drama where he bared his soul when his character totally breaks down in the first episode (the rest of the drama is lighter). That is exactly the kind of raw performance he also delivers in The Light Only Shines There.

Soratobu Kouhoushitsu sounds like a good drama to watch. Don't particularly care for Aragaki Yui, but the storyline sounds decent, I'll keep a lookout for it. Oh, did you watch the SP for Saikou no Rikon?
Long Goodbye was the first Ayano work I saw and he was good despite not having much screen time. I think I may have caught a bit of him in S, that police thing with Mukai Osamu. I thought about Rich Man Poor Woman as well, but the storyline seemed kinda blah from the recaps I read, and I'm not keen on Oguri Shun - his personal life seems like a complete mess though.
Have Liar Game in my backlog too - residual like for Shota after Love Shuffle, heh. Same thing is preventing me from bitchslapping Eita's character in Saikou no Rikon... seriously, I don't know what Yuka saw in Mitsuo enough to marry him!
alua
September 19, 2014 at 12:13 PM
Soratobu Kouhoushitsu isn't for everyone, I think a lot of people found it "boring" but it worked for me. I'm not into Aragaki Yui really either (I loved Smile but didn't like Zenkai Girl or most of her other stuff), her character isn't the most interesting in SK either but she did grow on me. I can't explain why I enjoyed Soratobu, I just did...
RMPW is very popular, I just found it okay, nothing more than that. Hated the special. And at this point, I've had it with Satomi Ishihara (Heartbroken Chocolatier put the nail in that coffin... too many sickeningly cute pretentiously innocent characters from her). I get what you mean with Oguri Shun. He's done some good stuff though and he can act (Woodsman and the Rain I do much recommend). I watch his stuff if the story appeals to me, but not specifically for him.
For Shota, I think his films are what to go for (though I haven't seen most of them). Tsuki no Koibito and Clinic on the Sea are terrible and/or boring dramas, Regatta and Flower Shop without a Rose are okay, but he plays smaller roles. Nagareboshi is one of my faves, but he's in a supporting role and the leads get much of my attention there. Don Qixote is a good one though, whacky fun and not the typical kind of drama (body swap between a young, too polite quiet guy and a rambunctious, middle-aged yakuza).
junny
September 19, 2014 at 3:04 PM
Ehh? Shota was in Tsuki no Koibito? That Kimutaku train wreck? Ouch. I agree, he needs to pick better projects.
I've only seen Ishihara Satomi in Bull Doctor, which was a bit of a yawn fest (slogged through mainly for Esumi Makiko). I thought she was decent and her character was a bit feisty, so I was looking forward to the film she did with Tamaki Hiroshi (Bakumatsu Kokosei - the trailer looked funny). Saw her in a variety show with Tamaki, she does come across as cutesy sweet and tiny next to him.
Also... Nakama Yukie got married! Never seen her hubby in dramas, but he's apparently an actor too.

September 19, 2014 at 3:40 PM
I don't even remember Shota's role in Tsuki no Koibito, I banned that drama from my memory.
Satomi's had too many cutesey, wide-eyed roles, and several with intensely irritating characters that I just can't anymore with her.
Googled Nakama's hubby. Actually, I recognise his face and I've definitely seen him in some projects – Holy Monsters, SPEC, Rebirth. Most of these are supporting roles (not tiny, but not big roles either... and often the villain I think).

Sato Takeru..... I've never been sure whether he was really a limited actor or I was just biased against him because the first thing I saw him in was Koizora, which is Japanese drama but brings makjang to whole new levels.
But looking at you guys' comments, it looks like it really is the former.

Can't agree with you guys more about "Tsuki no Koibito." Wanted to fast-forward through all of Lin Chi-Ling's scenes.. but I WAS quite moved by Ninomiya's confession. Definitely teared up and hit replay a couple times. That scene alone redeemed the drama from 'laughable trainwreck' to 'trainwreck I'll shed a few regretful tears over.'
I'm wondering if anyone liked "Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi"...? I'm surprised by how much I liked nearly 90% of the drama, except for, y'know, the whole reason behind Ryo's way of being. And the ending.
I'm embarrassingly fond of dramas that feature leads who refuse to admit their attraction to each other, struggle with denial-crush for most of the show, and leave everyone (me) guessing with little, irrepressible hints here and there. Uh-huh, in my camp, all that achey slow-burn iffiness beats any post-consummation happy stuff hands down.

I've always thought Yunho had a touch of the rigid in his personality so he does "rigid" well. And he had a lot of scenes where he had to rigidly clear his throat. But when he had that crying seen, I was...WOW!!! This guy is actually good.

Wow.. 2 comments on Blade Man back to back.. well.. it is my new crack (now that Surplus has mellowed down a bit -for me at least). Ep 3 had me bawling my eyes out (dont ask me why) and ep 4, it gave me some fuzzy feeling at times. I wont be too harsh on SSK tho.. i like her Se Dong. I know she's another Candy but i find her quite capable and level headed. Of the veteran extended casts, other than KGS and LMS, the rest are almost new to me (one or two i do recognized) it's like a breath of fresh air.. the story itself is not a normal kdrama.. at least to describe it to a friend i actually said it's a weird kdrama, b

Blade Man is officially my new favorite drama.
Like many of you I watched the first episode exclaiming WTF? every 5 min or so. By the second episode I just gave up on trying to figure out what the hell was going on and settled in to enjoy this crazy, surreal world.
I've now watched to the end of episode 4 and am still scratching my head. Seriously Se Dong, who are you?
This drama has a real Tim Burton feel to it. From the over-the-top characters to the cinematography. The musical score is even over-the-top in its climatic swells at the least provocation.
I really hope this drama keeps up with the surreal WTF-ery regardless of where the story takes us.

There was some seriously weird dialogue in Episode 3 but I'm hanging in. Kind of glad to see that SSK is not giving a terrible performance, although I wish she had an acting teacher to work with her on her physical gestures and movements -- that is an acting skill that can be taught.

I got into k-pop very briefly (2-4 months) before I got into dramas. Can't stand it now but I did inadvertently discover their underground hip-hop which is pretty good. This was my first time seeing another ethnicity besides black or white rap. It really changed my view on music--hip-hop especially since I used to be a purist. Minos, Beenzino, and Garion are some of my favorites. I like Linus' Blanket and Winterplay as far as bands go.

When people talk about Korean punk, mostly I hear the band name 'Crying Nut', but their stuff is more hardcore and less old skool (think Henry Rollins instead of the Clash). Not so much my thing.

OMG. You guys. I have to give so many thanks to those who have been suggesting all these wonderful j-dramas this past month. I'd always wanted to watch more, but never had anyone to tell me where to start.
And now, thanks to you guys, I found one of the first dramas I ever have a memory of watching. Back in 2005-2007 is when I technically started watching dramas here and there because of my Korean friend, but, even before that, I have memories of watching them with my babysitter occasionally growing up.
And I always had this super vivid, nostalgic memory of watching 2 episodes or so of this one drama that I just happened to finally find this week when I had long given up on ever finding it.
When I got back into dramas (and, really, only them officially started my addiction) in 2011, I searched so hard for this drama thinking it was Korean because a majority of the dramas I had come into contact with had been introduced by my friend. Only now do I realize that I'd watched it with my babysitter waaaay back and it was a j-drama this whole time LOL.
So thank you very much those who suggested Long Vacation to me, because that scene when Sena comes home to hear Minami playing that song for him? That has been in my memory for so long. I realized at episode 1 that this could be the drama I'd been looking for, and kept watching all night until I finally found the scene (episode 9 lol)!
And I knew there must have been a reason why I was so drawn to/adamantly searching for this drama because it's lovely. Probably one of the most wonderful cohabitation dramas I've seen and the leads have a wonderful rapport. I'm so glad I finally found it!

One of the best cohabitation dramas, and one of the best friends-to-lovers dramas.
I think my favourite scene is when Minami says "If I could be with you for the rest of my life, I guess that would be happiness" without actually realising what she has just said. And then they just sit there happy, in a world of their own and a million miles from all their worries.

Yes, that moment.
Loved the matter-of-factness of everything they said and did in that scene. I'm not sure if I'm energetic enough to explain it right, but it just spoke volumes of the understanding they shared for each other or rather how they had really become a "them", so to speak, because nothing they said or the meaning of it needed to be understood by them at that time. It just needed to be felt and experienced. And them sitting on that ledge with their "Don't Worry, Be Happy" billboard shining in the background just drove that in even more.

Glad you like Long Vacation! Methinks it's one of the best Kimutaku dramas, and those don't come by often (despite him having starred in so many dramas).
Another cohabitation j-drama I'd recommend is Over Time, that one is a bit more bittersweet but equally lovely. Give it a shot if you can.

Finally someone has mentioned "Over Time"!!! It's flown under the radar a bit (maybe cos it's of my generation..I'm 37!!), but I really think it's one of the best J-dramas ever, along with (of course) "Long Vacation." Sorimachi's role as a photographer struggling to find his way has stood out to me more than his roles in "Beach Boys" and "GTO" combined.

Wouldn't it be nice to live with a bunch of friends like that, huddled around a pot of shabu, playing silly board-games late into the winter night?? I love love loovved "Over Time."

Heh, glad to find another Over Time fan here. I am probably in the minority, but I really liked Natsuki with Dr Kuga, even though she and Soichiro were great together. So I was perfectly okay with the ending, but I know there were people who felt let down by how it all wrapped.
Ahh the shabu shabu and board games! And all the cohabitation hijinks! The girls' friendship was awesome and I also like how each of their names reflected a season.

I also didn't mind that Natsuki chose the Doc, though part of me still wishes...alas, nevermind. I'm just glad that she had her fling with Sorimachi first, cos it seemed...more realistic? Living together like that would easily blur boundaries and confuse most people, so it felt like an eventuality that they'd give it a go. And it proves (to me at least) that it's all too easy to fall in love with more than one person, 'round about the same time to boot. (Just cos she commits to one, publicly, doesn't mean she doesn't still/also love the other, in her heart of hearts..haha.)

I am amazed at how much I am liking My Spring Days. It has that nostalgic feel to it like I am watching a classic drama. The only thing bad I can say about the drama is that I am still not quite on board with the OTP. The age gap is still a bit obvious to me and I kinda cringed when she was sitting on his lap during that dream sequence.
I am having a difficult time following the once a week dramas like Surplus Princess and Three Musketeers. I think I've just so gotten used to the two a week system that it feels like something is not right when they only show up once a week. I always forget about the drama and end up catching up to some episodes.
I think I burned myself out watching too many kdramas at once. I ended up dropping a lot of them even though they were good. Oh well, I'll get to marathon them later I guess once I get my surgery #4 done.

good luck with your surgery!
I get what you mean about the 2-eps-a-week system spoiling us, but 3M and Surplus Princess actually have better writing and story because of it, I feel. And I do find it relaxing that I don't have to catch up to 4 hours of drama if I miss them in a week, just two.
I agree that My Spring Days feels like a total throwback. I'm glad it's doing well in the ratings (ok, it broke double digits anyway), and really happy that Sooyoung is getting some love for her acting. She's quite natural and seems pretty comfortable with her ajusshi leads, who are great actors - though I do hope that in the future, she gets at least one age-appropriate leading man for an otp lol

Purposefully giving Girls' Generation older leading men is probably a good strategy for them. It kinda gives the ahjussi fans something to hope for and it also ensures SM that there won't be an actual scandal or real life relationship that develops from the pairing.

LOL is it weird that it's actually the opposite for me?
I'm a twenty-something fan and part of the reason I love this drama is because it makes me feel like there could have been hope for me and my ultimate ahjussi-crush Kam Woo-sung (if he wasn't married, that is).
But really. Even I can't ACTUALLY imagine being in a relationship with a man his age. It's more a "if only I were born ten years earlier" kind of thing. So this pairing still feels a little weird for me too, but I'm actually surprised by how much a like them together too.

Not much to report this week, but I am really loving Three Musketeers and Surplus Princess.
Surplus Princess - STOP PLAYING WITH ME, SHOW!!! It's killing me that our mermaid and Rim actually liked each other but this show was screwing with us because Hyun Myung is the lead (Rim is totally the second lead right? Destined to never get the girl? Then don't do mutual feelings between them, and don't make him be all adorable! Stop Chilbonging us, tvN!)
But I love its wackiness, and forget the boys, my favourite pairing in this drama might just be Jo Boa and Kim Seul-gi. They make adorable and hilarious friends, and I keep saying it but I am so impressed by how far Jo Boa has come, for a girl whose acting debut was only two years ago. Not every young actress would have embraced the perv aspect of our mermaid as fully as she has (and I gotta give credit to the actress for Jin-ah too, she makes her perfectly hateable but plays her character well)
Three Musketeers - I love this drama. It kills me to say it, but maybe one episode a week is a good idea and makes for better written shows, if this, Surplus Princess, and Let's Eat are anything to go by. And I am totally into this for Lee Jin-wook and interestingly plotted court politics. Prince So-hyeon is the true leading man of the drama, in my eyes, and all the more because he's such a mystery to us and keeps so many cards close to his chest. (sucks that he and Gong Hyo-jin broke up btw)
Plus Nine Boys - Kim Young Kwang makes a pretty good case for moving up to leading man status, but I'm slightly more interested in the other boys' stories. I loved the twist in Min-gu's Dream Girl fantasy, and I'm really rooting for Kwang-soo to get things together. My favourite of the four 'girls' to our Plus Nine Boys is little Baek-ji - an incredibly natural and charming actress despite being so young. (that 'confession' scene with Do Min-joon, I can't believe she actually reacted like the way a teenager who's confessed to, would react! And her disappointment in Dong-gu's terrible acting before that...)
jdramas - I'm rewatching Nodame Cantabile! I can't believe I missed out noticing this the last time I watched
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER
Mine actually slept with Miki Kiyora! I don't know how it didn't register that he was in her bed, I am so unobservant sometimes.
None of the public broadcast Wednesday-Thursday dramas this time stand out to me, I'm just marking time waiting for Pinocchio to start (Lee Yubi!! finally!). I also look forward to Misaeng for its cast (Im Siwan and Kang Sora? Gimme!)

Haha, yes, Mine and Kiyora slept together. I like that it wasn't made a big deal, because... well, they're adults. One of the sweetest beats of their relationship was when she was nervous for the RS Orchestra's first concert, he took her hand and told her that she'd be all right, because no matter what, she's the woman he fell for. She totally beamed at him.
Every time I rewatch Nodame Cantabile, I notice little things that had escaped me the previous times.

I got to that part! I totally melted when she was so nervous to see her teacher in the audience and then Mine did what you said. (and yay to having sex without having to have noble idiocy and tragic misunderstandings afterwards!)
And the best part is, it feels so natural and not random at all because he's admired her from Day 1 and their relationship and interactions are so organically written and developed. On the surface of it, you think she'd be better suited to someone like Chiaki, but she and Mine complement each other really well.

Haha, Kiyora and Chiaki would have been an interesting possibility, but I doubt they complement each other. Chiaki's so critical of himself and others that I think nobody except Nodame would be able to stand him, haha. I do love the mutual respect Chiaki and Kiyora show each other throughout, though.
I like how in Mine and Kiyora's relationship, there is a lot of support both ways, and the inferiority complex doesn't come into play as much. That, sadly, can't always be said for Chiaki & Nodame, although it makes for a very interesting comparison (damn, I feel a blog post coming for this...). I totally agree that the Mine-Kiyora interactions are so organically written and developed. I find that a lot of the relationships in NC were very nicely structured and nothing felt particularly out of place. Development was well-paced and everything felt it happened for a reason.
And yes, no noble idiocy! Prior to their motel scene, Mine was comforting Kiyora as she sobbed after her competition failure. I found that really sweet as well.

yeah, I loved that scene where Mine comforts her after the concours goes to second place for her. It's literally the first time in the series we see Kiyora break down like that because normally she's the epitome of goddess-like calm and cool. And I like that Mine is there for her then. Like you said, their relationship is one of mutual support, and he's pretty awesome at that.
(also it's a long way from him bugging her at the start of the series about how to handle S-orchestra, it's just a really nice match there, the two of them)

September 19, 2014 at 2:39 PM
Haha yes, and he used to grumble she was so cold, and she'd tell him to practise if he had that much time to complain. Love their dynamic. I'm always up for more Chiaki and Nodame, but it'd have been nice to see more of Mine and Kiyora in the specials and movies too.

other kdrama-related activity of the week: I read an Heirs fanfiction! Which is the latest in a five part series, involves pairing up Young Do and Rachel, and is totally NSFW:

On Nodame...Chiaki and Nodame also slept together didn't they? Though I can't tell when the first time was...but certainly on that episode when Nodame asked Chiaki to marry her? (On the movie...final movie?)

Yes, I think the implication was there (in the 2nd movie). Chiaki stayed the night after the concert with Rui, and in the morning as he was preparing to leave, Nodame appeared in a sheet (towel?) wrapped around her and asked him to marry her. Chiaki got the shock of his life.
Don't think they had slept together on a previous occasion... dang, this calls for a rewatch! Though he was certainly *interested* in the first special, after he found out about her bra size, hahaha.

oh Yeah! I forgot about her bra size thing, puhahahaha!!! That episode was funny! I think they might have literally just slept together, though.

Ohh, the kotatsu in episode 4. Yes, Chiaki was completely floored by the kotatsu, and he was asleep when Nodame tried to kiss him (he moved his head and she pretended to snooze too so he wouldn't know). So yeah, no sex there.

The kotatsu episode is my favourite episode ever.
That moment, when Nodame & co. come back from the konbini, with the kotatsu he sneakily dumped while they were out... bwahahahaha. Resistance is futile, he should have realised that back then.

You and I have similar taste. :)
Nodame: could only watch by pretending the Mine is the lead. Not OTP, just lead. :) But, I fully admit, I'm almost never on board with jerky male leads.
Let's Eat was really underrated, no? I had no idea that the male lead was an idol until I finished it. But the writing was fantastic, the story was really gripping for a slice-of-life drama, and the picture well shot.

Mine/Miki OTP for life!!! I almost swooned when she ditched the honorifics and called him Ryuu. And then when he gave the big speech in front of the whole orchestra telling her she should go to Vienna, and Chiaki's shocked expression when they hug, hee!
I'm not super enamoured of Chiaki and Mine is totally closer to my ideal type (caring supportive genki boyfriend - gimme!) but I do get how the storyline is more interesting with a hero like Chiaki in the lead. Though I would have loved a Miki/Mine spinoff special, I wanted more of them!

So, it's been a while since I've done an Open Thread, so I thought I'd do it this time.
Personally, the last few months have been very difficult. I don't even know where to start, so I'll just say family is precious, so spend as much time with them as you can while you have them. I am filled with so many regrets now, it's not even funny.
I'm taking one online college course and it's going well. Have a test this weekend. I'm sure it'll be easy.
I've been reading a lot of books lately. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas, Sea of Shadows by Kelley Armstrong, White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L. Armentrout and I'm rereading This Rough Magic by Mary Stewart (to name a few).
Drama-wise, I'm watching the Taiwanese drama Easy Fortune Happy Life, which is freaking hilarious. I can't stop laughing. It's the first Taiwanese drama I've ever watched, and if this is any indication of what they're like, I need to watch more!
I'm also watching That Winter, The Wind Blows. It's almost as good as I remember it. Hopefully, more I get into the story, the more I'll like it.
And Iron Man/Blade Man. This is another funny show. Liking it so far. Secretary Go, FTW!
Last night I watched The Berlin File, and really liked it. A few things I didn't like, but for the most part it was good. Ha Jung-woo is a great actor!
Last week I watched Commitment with T.O.P. It was good, up until the ending. If you've seen it, you'll know what I mean.
So that's about it. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

oh yeah, I watched The Commitment on a flight once. It's quite decent, but much darker than I expected and has a lot less Kim Yoo Jung than the trailer let us believe. I was expecting some teenage spy hijinks, but it's all deadly North Korea levels of serious.

Can I confess that, looks-wise, I always get Ji Hyun-Woo slightly confused with Lee Sang-Woo, and Park Shin-Hye with Park Min-Yong?
I wish Lee Sang-woo can get more recognition/better roles... I was pleasantly surprised when he turned out to be [spoiler alert?] the male lead in "Feast of the Gods" (which was a very mediocre drama that I nonetheless finished watching). I also loved his kiss with Sung Yuri in that drama.

It's funny how you mix both of them up...both JHW and LSW are tall lanky types, and they typically play the sensitive types. PSH and PMY both played girls-playing-boys. Resemblance-wise, I can see how you mix up the guys but the girls are a bit of a contrast, imo.
Feast of Gods was one of the very few times where the second lead got the girl!!! Yes, that was a crappy drama and I watched it all too.
It seems as if LSW always used to pick roles where he loses the girl ('til FOG and of course, his current role in Feel Good Day). He emotes far better than the likes of Joo Sang-wook but I guess LSW fits more along the lines of the sensitive, silent brooding types -- not the usual kdrama hero.

Hey everybody...happy OT!
Missed yall last week...and I'm posting pretty late here now (~1130pm). Hope all is well out there to the beanies on here.
Been busy with school so I've barely kept up with my kdramas, which is kinda the reason why I didn't post last week...not much to discuss.
Jang Bori is Coming: This week was a bit of a step back, imo. Too much conniving crap from resident viper, dwelling on the impending expose that will reveal the culpability of Bori's mom in her uncle's death. Yeah, I get that you need to drag this along 'til the end so that viper will get her azz handed to her (fingers crossed)...but it feels like we're getting shafted in having to muddle through a few weeks of the ever-ending conspiracies of viper bitch. And what's the deal with Jae-hwa's stepmom and half-sis ganging up and bullying a 6 yr old?? Talk about serious inferiority complexes, argh.
My Spring Days: When the promos came out, I wasn't really all that interested because it seemed to be like Summer Scent. But I figured, why not give the first few eps a whirl...and I was actually quite surprised. It has such a throwback feel to it, which I've been drawn to this year for some reason. I like how the story has developed so far, although the ankle-grabby part from her drop in the ocean was a bit "are you serious?" to me. I found myself laughing, getting tearyeyed and heartwarmed all at the same time. I like the constant headbutting between Bom-yi and Dong-ha, and how DH keeps getting flustered at the misunderstandings that he brought upon himself.
I just finished the first two eps, but I think this has potential to keep me watching. Obviously, there's gonna be serious drama ahead once DH realizes the connection with BY and his wife, and BY with his bro Dong-wook. I didn't get the reason why DW was so shocked when DH introduced her as his bride to be...'til I realized DH's wife was his first love. And later on he's gonna lose BY to his bro too...talk about his bro "stealing" his girls from him! -.-
I personally don't mind the age gap (although why does Sooyoung keep getting cast with older guys?) but the acting is pretty good across the board.
What's With My Family: I've been catching it on and off, and I was watching Sat's ep when I just got turned off by oldest son and his bitchy uppityness, so I stopped watching. Ugh. "Embarassed" by the father who raised him and sent him to med school?? Yuck. He might be the reason I stop watching it altogether, a la the bitchy whiny mom from Feel Good Day.
It was a great week in sports for me. The Orioles are the 2014 AL East Champs!!! Woo-hooooo! :) I was glad I got out of class before the end of the game, it was great to see the celebrations (especially the pie-ing, that was super hilarious). Now on to the playoffs!

You know, Jang Bori is Coming definitely could qualify for a daily -- with all its crazy antics and schemes.
...and like you said, that's exactly what I'm afraid of. I absolutely abhorrrr it when these dramas end up having the villain get a redemption arc and "all is forgiven" - no matter how vile their evil deeds had been (even murder). What in the world are these writers saying then, it's all good and gravy to do all that crap and not get punished for it?
Argh, I really hope he gets that reversal of fortune as well...after kicking his girl to the curb to climb up the ladder. He's a gold-digging arrogant jerk who doesn't value his family and needs to get a good kick down his perch to learn how to be a real person for sure.

My Spring Days: Oh guys just a friendly suggestion, if you will definitely die due to waiting, do NOT watch this drama yet. I regret I did. I wish I waited for it to FINISH airing! I really do! I regularly watch drama every week, and it's no big deal for me to wait for English subs, and watch it 2 eps per weekend. I can wait like that.
But this drama, I try to avoid, but I watch the raw dammit! And watch the subbed again. I hate it. It's really a good suggestion. Please consider it. This drama is too daebak to be true! I'm dying now. I shouldn't wait but I should.

Echoing everyone, MSD is surprisingly delightful! Because the story is so oldschool and cliche, we basically knew almost everything that will happen... but yet, it's still very interesting because of the top-notch storytelling.
I really hope they wont lose the comedic touch despite the impending angst and tears. The little things like, "I didn't slam the door, it was the wind" after Bomyi fought with her Mom is pretty funny and it gives me hope lol.
