Name That Drama: Mean sisters and secret wills

Can you name these dramas? As always, feel free to email us your questions and requests for future Name That Drama installments.

  1. Faex’s question is pretty familiar-sounding… (It might even be recapped on this site!)

I’ve been thinking of this one drama recently, and it bugs me because I can only remember the premise. And i really want to watch it again.

At the beginning of the story, a really young girl is left alone with her unni in a supermarket(?). The father and mother are elsewhere, and unni was instructed to take care of the girl. But the unni hates/is jealous of the younger sister for some reason, and wants the girl to disappear.

So the mean cow of a sister buys the girl a carton of milk, and leads her out the store — and sticks her into this truck with zippers. She leaves the girl in the TRUCK and just stares at her until it drives away… with the little girl crying her poor lungs out.

That scene is so poignant I want to know what happens to the girl, but I just can’t remember what drama it was from! I think the older sister steals stuff from the store and blames it on the younger sister. And I think the girl grows older and meets the sister later on, but I forget what happens…

  2. Cassie’s question is from another recapped scene! Who knows which one?

Help me please! All I remember is that the drama I’m looking for is a sageuk drama. There was this scene where the female lead is in rags and the male lead is measuring her for clothes even though there’s another woman in the same room, he just tells the woman her measurements instead of having her take them directly.

But when he’s about to measure her chest, the heroine snatches the tape away and measures herself and whispers it into the woman’s ear, and the woman announces it to the hero anyway. (Heroine is really annoyed).

I liked this twist on the usual k-drama get-a-new-wardrobe scene so any help finding the drama is highly appreciated.

  3. Sarah’s description is pretty broad, but I have an inkling it’s another recapped show…

So I have been looking for this drama a couple of years now and I just can’t seem to find it and no one seems to recognize it. I think I watched it around 2012 and it’s probably from mid-2000s and Korean. I don’t remember any names but there was a main girl who had a father (or grandfather) who died and they were poor. But the grandfather left a will that somehow made the person who found it rich or something, and the second lead guy who is evil (in the beginning — later he regrets deceiving the girl to find the will) knows about it and tries to find it. There is also the other Mr. Nice Guy who ends up with the girl but I can’t remember anything about him. One of the guys also owns an art gallery/shop or something similar and has the usual mean assistant girl who tries to get in the way.

  4. I feel like I’ve seen this but I don’t have a picture in mind. Anybody know what Bee’s thinking of?

I’m hoping everyone can help me identify an early-2000s kdrama (I think it was around early 2000s, or an oldish drama at least).

From what I can remember, the main girl has a terminal illness, so that’s why she hesitated to accept the main guy at first. I think he was a photographer. I remember before she passed away he took a photo of her smiling, and at the end that photo was used in public everywhere (train stations, etc.), though I don’t remember if it’s for an advertisement or something similar. I think the main girl had a little brother. I don’t know if I’m remembering wrong but the theme of “smile” played a huge role in this. Thank you!

  5. June asks:

There was this one drama I watched with my mom when I was younger. I was really young, so I don’t remember all the details, but I remember that there was this one girl who had a really scratchy voice and that there was a whole episode based on how her voice got that way. Also, a person was living behind a wall in a house, pretty much in a secret room. To hide from his/her grandpa, I think. Sorry, I don’t remember much other than that. Please help me find it!

  6. Jay has enough details that perhaps it’ll ring a bell for anyone who’s seen this:

I turned on the TV one day and there was a Korean movie playing; I didn’t get to see the title or the cast or anything, I just started watching in the middle. It was about a girl named Seo Do-yun, whose mother ran away from her when Do-yun was a child. The mother comes back from Africa and is revealed to have a terminal illness. Meanwhile, Do-yun is getting bullied at school by a girl named Na-ra and her gang. They call her “shuttle.” Do-yun’s best friend, Ju-kyung, seems really close to Na-ra. (The actress that plays Ju-kyung seems frustratingly familiar.)

I’d be really grateful if someone helped me find this movie!

1. Rooftop Prince. The most memorable scene of that drama for me.

3. Who Are You (the good one with Yoon Kye-sang).

1- Rooftop Prince? I'm pretty sure that's how Se-Na abandoned Park Ha

2- SOunds like Arang and the Magistrate to me! Since Arang (Shin Min Ah) was a ghost, only Eun-Oh (Lee Jun Ki) could see her. The other person in the room could only hear her, I think?

Third one sounds like Who are you to me? I'm not sure. Reminds me of it. The first Who Are You I mean.

I concur 100%:
1. Rooftop Prince
2. Arang & the Magistrate
3. Who Are You? (2008)

In WAY'08 an artist is murdered for his paintings as soon as they start selling for real money. He had hidden most of them to leave to his daughter, leaving only an ambiguous "will" as a clue but then a gallery owner tries to romance the will and the paintings away from her. Also, the artist returns as a ghost who can possess another man's body for 3 hours each day, but that's really neither here nor there...

5. (submitted by June) maybe the 2005 drama 귀엽거나 미치거나? I don't know the English title; the literal translation is "Cute or crazy?" It has Park Kyung Lim, who is made fun of for her scratchy voice. Here's a clip if it helps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tKQVLbbhZA

It could be that or unstoppable high kick. The sitcom with Jung Ill woo. It came out in 2006 or 2007. I don't know for sure about the voice, but I think there was an episode like that. And their was a character that hid in another room ( or something like that) from his father (lee soon jae). Here is a link to the show, I'm thinking of: http://asianwiki.com/High_Kick!

I think most of the questions get submitted a while ago so the original askers might not know the answers are up yet.

But hey, it means we get to have fun when the drama they ask about is our fave :)

#4 rang a bell but couldn't recall the title, only that the main lead was Song Seung-hun with bad haircut (Autumn Tale, Summer Scent, Dr Jin, When a man falls in love etc)

Googled it & recognized the poster - name of the series was POPCORN (2000)

#2 is definitely Arang.

At first #3's description reminded me of My Princess, but reading over it again, yeah, it sounds more like Who Are You.

But how can she not even remember Yoon Kye Sang? He's what made it SO AWESOME! Go Ara was good, but Yoon Kye Sang just stole the show!.

#1 is deffinitely Rooftop Prince
That was the first episode and the unni did it because she was jealous of her step sister
and #2 sounds like arang and the magistrate...the guy was taking her measurements cause she's a ghost and the girl is a shaman who can only hear but not see her
i agree it was an awesome twist on the makeover trope and a great drama to watch

Yay, I know some of these!

#1 Rooftop Trolls, ups I mean Prince
#2 Arang and the Magistrate, with wonderful Shin Mina and Lee Junki
#3 Who are You? (2008) Go Ara and funny Yoon Kye Sang
not to be mixed with that one last year with Taecyon

#4 not sure, but I'm pretty sure it's NOT Tada, Kimi wo Aishiteru/Heavenly Forest like some suggested, or ...Ing
though they have one or two similarities. Don't know about Popcorn, never seen that one.

Unfortunately couldn't recognize the others :(

yeah, I'm pretty sure #4 is not Tada Kimi wo Aishiteru, the couple's relationship wasn't one where she was 'reluctant to accept him', it was that he was dating another girl.

The photographs were also different, it was her exhibition and she'd vanished earlier after taking a photograph, but it wasn't a smile (won't give away what her photograph was of, since no spoilers)

Lovely movie though, definitely worth a watch.
