Healer’s cast lineup and first script reading

Let’s check in with KBS’s Healer, which won’t premiere for several months yet but which recently held its cast script reading at the KBS annex in Seoul, featuring the cast led by headliners Ji Chang-wook, Park Min-young, and Yoo Ji-tae.

So far I only have an inchoate idea of what the central story will be, but with these latest descriptions at least I’m getting a bigger picture of the world involved. Even though I’m still wondering what exactly the show will be about, and whether its tone will be more serious, light-hearted, mysterious, or thriller-like. Or something else altogether.

The drama, written by Sandglass, Story of a Man, and Faith writer Song Ji-nah, features Ji Chang-wook playing a mysterious errand guy who happens to possess top-notch fighting skills on top of brains and looks, and he’ll apparently have a number of cool action scenes. The fact that an errand boy has a mysterious nickname (as the Healer) is suspicious enough, but why would he need top-of-the-line “equipment” or amazing martial arts skills? Is calling him “Healer” just ironic?

Yoo Ji-tae, on the other hand, plays a star reporter who’s the envy of all other reporters who aspire to his kind of profile and fame; on the other end of the spectrum we have Park Min-young playing a reporter for a second-rate internet news site. One day, Yoo stumbles across the truth of a bygone event, which gets our story off and running.

That decades-old incident involves the older cast members, five of whom were involved in a pirate (unauthorized) radio broadcast in the ’80s. One was Yoo Ji-tae’s character’s hyung, played by Park Sang-won (a Song Ji-nah regular, from Faith, Legend, and Sandglass), who is now the president of a major newspaper with the power to influence not only the populace but also government regimes.

Top row: Do Ji-won, Woo Hee-jin, Park Won-sang, Oh Gwang-rok;
Bottom: Park Sang-won, Kim Mi-kyung, Park Sang-myun

Park Sang-myun (Haeundae Lovers, Feast of the Gods, History of the Salaryman) will play Park Min-young’s adoptive father, and the father-daughter combo will have a humorous, fun bond. Dad is a lawyer specializing in criminal cases, with a cafe on the side where he employs ex-cons as baristas (um, you sure that’s a good idea?) and helps rehabilitate them.

The description for Kim Mi-kyung’s (It’s Okay, It’s Love; Heirs) character has me intrigued, since she’ll play a master hacker with the ability to infiltrate any computer network in the country. Since her roles these days mostly have her playing gruff moms, I’m definitely interested in seeing how she’ll take on a different angle here, and she’ll end up partnering up with Ji Chang-wook as they work together on… something. I want to know what!

Do Ji-won (Gold Rainbow) will play a character who’s “both frail and honest,” who shares a connection to our heroine but is a “woman holding onto a secret.” (Get in line, lady.)

Woo Hee-jin plays the head of the newsroom at a public television station (and while she has totally acted in a number of projects over the past twenty years—say, Jang Bo-ri Is Here, Passionate Love, Life Is Beautiful—to me she will forever be the object of everyone’s affections in THE original campus rom-com Feeling).

Park Won-sang (Golden Cross, Shark, Legend) will play the editor of an internet news site, while Oh Gwang-rok (High School King of Savvy, Empress Ki) will be another of the five friends involved in that pirate broadcast.

Healer will premiere in December, following Cantabile Tomorrow in the Monday-Tuesday timeslot.

I'm pretty excited about this if only because I really don't know what to expect from it. And because I miss Yoo Ji-tae. Good to see it get a head start on production :) I just wish it were airing sooner.

I don't think A New Leaf is boring. It tackles heavy issue but the writer knew what s/he writes and definitely the lawyer/legal thing handled much better than in other dramas.
But it's true if you don't understand the case/legal thing you'll get headache. I'm not really understand as well coz I'm not legal expert but I enjoy watching it.

I love that they're preparing few months before premiere. It's good to prepare early so the cast won't rush for live-shoot mode.
I love the cast n obviously Ji Chang Wook!!
Hope it will be good!

I have only one thing to say here...
HOLY crap I hope Ji Chang-wook doesn't sport that hairstyle in the drama! and with those round glasses he pretty much looks like a korean Harry Potter lol

JCW was diagnosed with an eye infection/stye right before he left for his Taiwan fan meeting held on 30 August. It never really quite healed up properly upon his return to Korea, so he's had to get by without contacts and wear glasses until he had the chance to see his doctor and get it medicated (as evidenced by his bandaged-up eye he tweeted about after leaving the script reading on 11 September).

And I see no problem with him keeping that hairstyle -- being all fashionable and stuff should be the least of his worries as he goes running around jumping off buildings and kicking some major ass while acting as the Supreme Hottie Brains of the operations. :P

CAN'T WAIT for 8 December. Heal(er) me, baby!!! *squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee*

I feel him! With the eye infection/stye thing. I got a stye in mid August and it's just dying down now but there's still a bump. It's too small to get surgery like he did though. Hope his goes down soon.

That's not the first time people saying he looks like Harry Potter. I don't think he'll keep the nerdy HP look.
He'll look handsome and gorgeous in this drama! Hahaha

the glasses and the way his hair is parted...I am tempted to draw a lightning scar on his forehead kekekeke
I actually don't like it when he has hair falling onto his forehead^^ He is a ridiculously good looking guy and I would love to see his hair all gelled up sexy ♡

Ooh lots of interesting characters especially the older female hacker, Kim Mi Kyung's character.

I really don't know what kind of genre this drama is going for, but I'm curious.

YASSSSS YASSSSSSS!!! OMG. Im spazzing, I LOVE PARK MIN YOUNG! and i miss her on drama scenes. I did watch A New Leaf and frankly that was a good show if only my bias of wanting PMY and KMM didnt cloud my petty feels.lol

Anyhow. YASSS YASS! romcom-action for my baby! and JI CHANG WOOK is hot. help my feels! lol

Yes, it's a bad bias, I think. I wanted KMM and PMY so badly I swore to SKIP the show without any romance blossoming between them! However I still finished it. Dang it. Ha!

I was really excited until I saw PMY's name. I have watched in 2 shows, and number 2 was just a repeat performance of number 1 - and it just leaves me cold. *sigh*

I've become a real hardcore Park Min-young fan because of 'A NEW LEAF'. Although ANL was really a bore with no OST, no solid loveline, (that came from me, a KMM fan til death) (but I think enjoyable for those in the legal background), I really, really, REALLY loved Park Min-young ever since.

So, I will be following Healer. And whoah, for the male leads, YOO JI-TAE oppa!!! Yoo Ji-tae, oh can he be the main lead?! Ahhh!
