Choi Woo-shik sheds his maknae image with In the Room

I’m laughing at myself because I was totally going in a different direction with this news before I read that Choi Woo-shik’s upcoming movie, In the Room, is an erotic film. The actor (Covertly Greatly, Rooftop Prince) totally won me over with his endearing portrayal of Jang Hyuk’s little brother Yong in Fated To Love You, and I was thrilled when I read that he’d been cast in the collaboration between famed Singaporean director Eric Khoo (My Magic, Mee Pok Man) and Hong Kong producer Shi Nansun. Shi has made quite a few pan-Asian films and has produced works that employed Kim Bum (Detective Dee Rise of the Sea Dragon) and Hyun Bin (Late Autumn), so I was really happy to hear that Choi had been selected to lead one of the six stories in the omnibus film.
That was until I learned of its rather mature content… Up until the time of this discovery my thoughts had been “Yay for Dragon!” but they quickly turned into “No little bro, I don’t want to see that. I can’t! Not with you in it!” The movie will use as its backdrop a single hotel room from the 1940s to 1990s, and will show the flow of generations through the guests who trickle through the room. By following the hotel stays of six couples, one per decade, the film will explore the ways in which love and desire change with the times.
Choi will play the lead in the story set in the ’90s, titled “The First Time.” (Okay, yes, I know the title alone should have been a red flag, but I innocuously thought the emphasis would be placed on his coming-of-age.) His character is in his early twenties and will go on a backpacking trip to Singapore with his bestie, whom he’s also head over heels for, and during his visit he’ll experience firsthand the capricious nature of young love.
While not what I was expecting, I’m glad Choi is branching out in his career and picking interesting projects — this will be conservative Singapore’s first ever erotic film. In addition, Khoo and Shi are skilled at global collaborations, and In the Room will employ actors of British, Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Singaporean descent. Filming began this month, and however successful, I don’t think I can watch this (Fated is still fresh in my mind and I can’t watch cute, cuddly little Yong do the deed — I just can’t), but it’s a ballsy next move.

I liked Eric Khoo's Tatsumi (which was an animated film) a good deal.
That one was very dark and graphic, so I can imagine what a live-action film could be like.
I don't mind though. Tatsumi made me want to keep an eye on Khoo's future work, plus, it's great to see that some interesting films of promising quality are recently coming out of Singapore, where no more than a handful of productions are made each year. (On that note, I highly recommend Anthony Chen'sIlo Ilo. Much looking forward to seeing Tan Pin Pin's now banned documentary To Singapore, with Love as well.)

Make that three! I would watch some of the scenes (orchestrated fights) in a drama like Inspiring Generation, and I actually liked scenes where the fighters rehearsed or practiced their moves. It was like watching a choreographed dance.
A beaner said a few years ago on Open Thread that to her, "sex was not a spectator sports, so she was not interested in watching it." I liked how she said it, and I subscribe to that opinion.

He's actually pretty fluent in English. He spent most of his schooling years in Canada. I think there's an English interview of him uploaded in Youtube.
I do wish the movie is in English. Speaking English lines won't be much of a problem for him. :)

I adore him and loved his role in Rooftop Prince (hilarious) and in the Ten series. He was a hoot as the dragon bro in FTLY and I hope to see him in many more important roles, not just his maknae reprisals

while i'd rather see his smexy LG hyung jang hyuk in that movie, cute baby dragon might nail it too since he can act well and appears quite mature for his age. he's good at playing goofy characters but when i saw a tv interview when he was only 22 (he talked about living in canada etc), i realized that he could be a serious actor too. btw, before ftly he worked with his rich noona gf in kbs drama shut up family. here's the link to his interview:

I'm from Singapore so I'm really surprise we are filming this type of movies with a Korean star lol. singaporeans are more sensitive to stuff like this so I didn't expect them to even film stuff like this, well I think it won't be too r rated? Or at least this is what I think since people like my mum will probably complain about how unsuitable it is haha

I watched Five Senses of Eros last night. I think you may be right, at least where he is concerned. It's five stories and the one with the young people, in this case HS students, was pretty chaste.
The stories in Eros were a real mixed bag. Do not relate in any way. A couple of them I liked.
There was a long narration at the end as the credits were rolling. They weren't translated, and I don't know Korean. If anyone knows what was said, please let me know.

I think we loved him even more because he so obviously shared db commenter taste by his hero worship of Gun and his adoration of Mi-young and blatantly shipped them both (one of us! one of us!)

Actually on Ten, his character is rather popular with the noonas so it's not like he hasn't played characters who've gotten frisky already. Haha, I mean, I guess I just don't think him trying a film like this is that strange.
He actually sounds like a really good choice for the film (since it's supposed to be "The First Time" and all lol) and it seems interesting so I'll probably check it out.

When I knew that this movie will be this erotic, my reaction was "OMG! Why is he one of the cast in this film???" He's doing this with his very innocent face.. >.<
Well,I have no choice because I really want to watch all the film where he was casted. He's a good actor and I know he can pull it off! ^_^
