Casting confirmations in for Rosy Lovers
by awcoconuts
Lee Jang-woo, Han Sun-hwa, Kim Min-seo, Han Ji-sang
We’ve got loads of new info on the upcoming MBC show, Rosy Lovers, which will follow a collegiate single dad’s struggle to overcome life’s obstacles and his quest for happiness. In true weekend drama fashion, the show will explore in detail the relationship between the central character and his mother, hyung, and noona, as well as demonstrate how they are connected to two other families.
- Lee Jang-woo (Pretty Man, Oh Ja-ryong is Coming) plays Park Cha-dol, a high-spirited, outgoing, and funny young man who is also quite innocent. He became a father too early, but he is tackling life with gusto and refuses to let his “accident” keep him down. The baby of the family, he grew up without a father, and his mother raised him and his brother and sister alone. He’s eager to graduate college, to get a job, and to start earning money so that he can take care of his mom, but despite his best intentions, he finds that making a living isn’t as easy as it looks.
- Han Sun-hwa (Marriage Not Dating, God’s Gift – 14 Days) is his love interest, a cutesy and aegyo-filled character. I know the news of her casting got a lot of eyerolls, and that her acting was a bit stilted in her last show – but despite the “leading” label, the role doesn’t sound like a terribly demanding one. Although in the minority, I’m still looking forward to seeing her take on the part, and I expect the long-running show to help her hone her skills as a thespian.
- Han Ji-sang, a musical theater actor who is new to dramas, steps into the shoes of Cha-dol’s older brother. He used to work as a corporate drone, but he quit to follow his dreams of making films. He’s currently lolling about at home and driving mom crazy in the process.
- Kim Min-seo (Good Doctor, Level 7 Civil Servant) portrays hyung’s love interest and coincidentally, Han Sun-hwa’s older sister. She’s a rich girl who has never known hardship (the same applies to younger sis, of course), and a model student.
- Yoon Ah-jung (Temptation, Empress Ki) is cast as Cha-dol’s noona, a smart and shrewd woman who refuses to live a lonely and meager life like Mom. Growing up, she studied as if there was no tomorrow, and built up all sorts of qualifications to become successful, but her aspirations come to a screeching halt when she puts the family house up as collateral for funds for her wedding, only to get divorced three months later and to return home with nothing but the stigma of a failed marriage.
- Phillip Choi (High School King of Savvy) plays a guy who looks like the straight-and-narrow type. He’s wealthy, but also is a big talker, to whom bluffing is second nature. We haven’t been told how he’s related to the rest of the cast, just informed that the character is an important one.
Philip Choi, Yoon Ah-jung
Veterans Lee Mi-sook (Miss Korea, You’re the Best Lee Soon-shin), Park Sang-won (Faith, Sandglass) and others round out the cast, and despite all that the main character has to deal with (a work-exhausted single mother, a deadbeat big bro, a shotgun wedded-and-divorced big sis, a young child to parent, and the possibility of losing the house), the show’s focus will be on his success in the face of adversity, and the hope gained by leaning on family, however turbulent relations might be.
Rosy Lovers will be helmed by Yoon Jae-moon (Love and Law, A Thousand Kisses), written by Kim Sa-kyung (she worked with Lee Jang-woo in Oh Ja-ryong is Coming), and will air on MBC in mid-October.

Calling it now: Philip Choi's character is the rich guy who gets the house (in some way) and Yoon Ah-jung's character is his love interest.
This sounds like a really cute, and heartwarming drama. I don't usually go in for long weekend dramas (the last I did watch was You're the Best, Lee Soon-shin) but I just might have to for this. One thing though: is the child a baby, or is it a toddler, or in elementary school? Where's the mother, dead or did she leave the child with the father and skip-out? Looking forward to more news on this.

Is Lee Mi Sook broke or something? She's been taking overlapping minor roles for the past year.

I don't think she's broke… She's probably just taking all the work she can to stay relevant in the industry

nice for second lead role (Lee Jang-woo, Han Sun-hwa) to kick a notch up to leading role.
I like their role both in Pretty Man and Marriage, not Dating.
I am not sure I like the story (very traditional plot), but it might be worth checking out.

Yay Lee Jang Woo in the lead!!!! It almost killed me watching him being perfect and lonely in Pretty Man.... :'(((
This sounds like it could be a really interesting character and relationship driven drama if they do it right. I'll check it out.

Kim Min Seo is a much better actress than most of the people who play lead heroine in her dramas......shame heaven will fall in before she gets a lead role.
It's like Korean producers are so desperate to cast any even half-relevant idol, they forgot their actors - not idols- were what first started the Hallyu wave.

So the producers & writers of this drama should change the whole script so that Kim Min Seo gets the lead? Is that what u are saying? Are u serious? Think for just a second. he story & script says the female lead is a young sophomore college student (21-22 years old). KMS dont at all look that age. U dont make sense and because of that, your comment has some hints of jealousy and maybe even hatred toward Han Sunhwa, it's so obvious (I bet u are a girl). U probably say u arent jealous and maybe u arent but u do sound like one in all honesty

I really dont like talking to people who think they know it all but I'll make u an exception. Sunhwa was trained to be an actress by her company from the very beginning of her idol career in 2009 (it was in her company's plans). In fact, she have turned down acting offers early in her career because she thought she wasnt ready. She's going about her acting career the right way. And u said it yourself that she's a half relevant idol. That means she wasnt casted for popularity or ratings. I assume u are smart enough to understand what I'm saying here. It's pretty obvious why she was casted. The fact that she's been casted by 3 different major TV station (KBS,SBS MBC) plus TVN proves what the people in the industry think of her acting skills. Her agency isnt a big one either and dont have much say unlike the companies of Girls Generation, Miss A and others.
I really dont know why u are trying to discredit this casting when u dont sound like u know much in this matter

I missed the chance to roll my eyes before, so I'll catch up now *rolls eyes*. Is there really nobody beside Han Sun Hwa to be cast in that role?
It seems a trend in WE dramas: there has to be a cute, dumb but stubborn girl around a guy who clearly deserves better. Now I am agonizing over the poor In Woo struggling with So Yi in Glorious Day, is it going to be the same in that coming drama? Or the aegyo-filled cutesy girl will not be an idiot for a change? That I would like to see!

Why, why is Kim Min-seo only the sister here? This drama is going to be very long, KMS is the one to deliver a strong performance throughout.
Whatever.

If u care to find out what this drama is about, the main female lead is a young college student. KMS is 30 years old and i dont think it makes sense for her to do 21 year old bubbly & spoilt rich girl. The role of the sister of the main female lead suits perfectly for her. She knows that, the producers know that and everyone that matters know that. Maybe this is news to u but acting roles are not just about acting skills but also suitability. So i hope your "whatever" will turn into "oh i didnt think of that"
Your Welcome :)

I was randomly going through the article and when I saw the name Han Ji Sang, I was trying to recollect where I have seen or heard his name.
Then I remembered that he had come on KBS Immortal Songs 2 and he was talked about by Joo Won on KBS Win Win. What an awesome set of pipes he has :) He was a senior of JW in SKKU and had actually recommended him to audition for his first musical. Although JW didn't make through for that one, he told him to go for another one. And JW made through in second musical's audition which was Altar Boyz. Rest as they say is history.
I remembered seeing news coverage of him in the South Korean version of the Bonnie and Clyde musical. He has a lot of credits in musicals. Hope this drama raises his career onto the small and later on gives him the chance to move to the big screen.
Quite a coincidence to see 2 of JW's colleagues in the same drama - Kim Min Seo and Han Ji Sang :)

I absolutely loathed han sun hwa in "MND" I mean I've never been irked with second female leads to begin with like most people. In fact, I usually prefer their realistic outlook (and outfits)compared to the main girl.
Hell I've rooted for very morally corrupt female characters in the past, one who had attempted to murder someone(lead for flames of desire) and more, but I've never felt that much hatred for a character/actress before. Even when the writers pulled that BS sudden change where she went all "good" and supported the main romance I wasn't buying it and still hated her. I think I can only happily watch her as the bitchy secondary lead who eventually receives karma for her evilness.

Well if the author of this post checked around, the major reason Sunwha's casting got a lot of eyerolls isn't just about her acting skills (or the lack of it), but the rumor that she was actually couch-casted to get the lead.
There are posts in Pann that are saying she's a diva to work with and directors wouldn't even consider casting her except for the fact she's got a sponsor.

Anybody know who the child actress is? The one who plays Jangwoo and Sunhwa's daughter. She looks familiar but I can't place her.
