Spring Days brings second chance at life and love
by girlfriday
It looks like we’ll have a sweet, uplifting human drama on our hands with MBC’s My Spring Days. Though it’s a melodrama about a man whose life falls apart with the death of his wife and a woman who faces a terminal illness, the story is about second chances as they find their way to one another and gain a new lease on life. I do think the show intends to wring tears, but at least it’s setting out to be hopeful from the start — pain for pain’s sake is not my idea of a good time.
Kam Woo-sung (King Geunchogo) stars as a man who loses his wife in a tragic car accident, and becomes inconsolable with grief, barely living at all. Sooyoung (Dating Agency Cyrano) is a woman (named Spring, OF COURSE) who lived always thinking each new day would be her last because of a terminal illness. But she’s saved by a heart transplant and is given a completely new chapter in life — one with the promise of a future.
That heart is of course the hero’s wife’s heart, because this is dramaland after all. They’ll be drawn to each other and fall in love, not knowing just how fated their relationship was. Cue guilty angst. Hey, I’ve seen Summer Scent; I know how this goes. Ideally the scale tips in favor of the feel-good message of rehabilitation and hope… But just in case, I’m not above waiting for news that it ends happily before committing my tears.
Writer Park Ji-sook (Hero) and PD Lee Jae-dong (I Miss You) are at the helm, and Lee Jun-hyuk (Equator Man) and Jang Shin-young (Empire of Gold) co-star. My Spring Days follows Fated To Love You and premieres September 10.

Well all the Wed-thurs drama in the next cycle has a hero with an ex who dies tragically and a herione who is 'related' to the ex.....
But I really do find the drama promising, hope that it will deliver.

Yaaaay, I was a little bit sad that the drama didn't get any new articles on the site compared to its timeslot rivals so I am happy, hahaha.
I am really excited for the drama even if it's such a shame that it doesn't get any hype at all. Well with an older cast, it has to be expected but I hope it does well in ratings (come to think of it, KDramaland ratings really suck nowadays. 10-11% is considered good/successful ? GOSH)

Hmm, he looks like her uncle rather than lover.
Big age gap everywhere in dramaland now.
The drama seems not my cup of tea and although the teaser is quite hopeful, I'm sure at some point this drama will be tearjerker.

So happy to see Kam Woo-sung in a drama. OTP looked lovely together. I'm not worried about the age gap, Kam always have great chemistry with his co-stars female or male (hi Lee Jun-ki).
This is not my kind of drama but I'll have to check it out.

Kam Woo-sung and Soo-young, OMG I love this OTP! Sooyoung could very well redeem herself in my list (the moment she accepted this) when this pulls through!!!!!!

Why everyone talks about Summer Scent when the story originally belongs to Hollywood film "Return To Me"..
I'm looking forward to it because of Sooyoung and promise of uplifting tale.

Yes, it's just like Return To Me. I was thinking the same thing. I didn't really care for that movie though, so let's hope Spring Days is better.

she's really pretty. i want to see her star opposite someone in her age bracket already.
he's very talented, but i can't see this drama having a big following, because it's not doing anything fresh plotwise, nor does it seem like something that'll bring it on the romance. nevertheless, wish 'em luck.

Of all the SNSD attempts at acting, I believe Sooyoung has shown the most promise. Her effort in Dating Agency was amazing for a newbie. We were quite surprised. Yoona is coming along well too, but she has had to work for it. Sooyoung seems to be a natural.

I agree that she seems more natural. I think Yoona proved in PMAI that she has the makings of being a pretty good rom com actress (I actually thought she was fine in Love Rain too). But Sooyoung could prove with this show that she has more range than Yoona. If she can hold her own against Gam Woo Sung (who is a great actor) I think she definitely has potential. I'm rooting for her!!!! :')

yeah, I agree. Sooyoung seems much less constrained by the 'idol' image than Yoona (who's also not bad, but out of all of SNSD Sooyoung is definitely the best I've seen so far).
I don't think the drama will be a big hit, but it'll be a valuable learning experience for Sooyoung to work opposite as experienced an actor as Kam Woo-sung. Maybe in her next drama, they could cast her with someone who's closer to her in age?

I actually don`t like Sooyoung in comedy, she seems very forced and fake to me. I like Yoona as romcom actress much more than Sooyoung.
But in melodramas i thin Sooyoung is better than Yoona.

I am glad that SBS has Rain...no offense to Kam Woo Sung fans, this is of course my personal preference, I don't really care about the age gap long as they look good together (b/c there is a age gap with Rain and his co-star too), but here, it does look like he is her uncle...ahhh what I am going to miss having two awesome dramas on Wed/Thur like now, of course FTLY and IOTL. Jang Hyuk, Choi Jin Hyuk, and Jo In Sung made me look forward to Wed/Thur...so much eye candy :) Then again, I did not think Yoona and Lee Bum Soo would work well, but they won me over...so never know...I guess I will decide whether to give it a chance after reading few recaps and also seeing the competition.

It's too bad that this premise does absolutely nothing for me, because Kam Woo-sung is a stellar actor (and total dreamboat). We'll see! I'll pencil it in for now ;)

Gosh, I feel like a bit of a hypocrite, but damn the age difference is glaringly obvious here than I've seen in any other recent show. I usually don't even have issues with large gaps, but is just so darn awkward. KWS looks like her uncle/dad, I admit I'd cringe if they had any kisses.
The premise is so cheesy but years ago, I saw a movie with a similar storyline and just loved it. If the OTP weren't so off-putting, I'd have given this a try.

Kam is 44 and the 'girl' is 24. So he can 'feel' her heart, maybe 'father' her?
I am so so bummed that I can't watch Lee Jun-hyuk's return from the army-drama!

The premise sounds exactly like a little known movie called "Return to Me" starring Minnie Driver. Man loses wife in car accident, goes into a downward spiral, Minnie Driver is dying of heart failure and gets his wife's heart. They meet, fall in love...as I said, exactly the same. I wonder if it will end the same way as well.

But...he looks so much OLDER. and it's not even Lee Bum Soo old...at least Lee Bum Soo (paired with Yoona previously) is cute in a way...but this actor is just too...uncle-y.

Honestly, this pairing seems less strange to me than the PM&I one. Not sure why. I think Soo-young just looks old to me (or rather, like she could be almost 30).
