Name That Drama: Face-stealers and home intruders
by javabeans
Can you name these dramas? As always, feel free to email us your questions and requests for future Name That Drama installments.
- Lauren’s question rings a bell with me, except for the tally marks. Anybody know?
I’ve been searching for this for a while and I’ve turned to you guys to help me out with this. I don’t remember if it’s a drama or a movie but I remember there being a teaser. But it’s about strangers who live in other people’s apartments while the owners are away at work. I remember that they kept tally mark on the walls to show how many times they’ve been there. Hope this rings a bell!
- The scene Inez describes seems pretty familiar from multiple shows, but if you’ve got an idea of this specific scene, have at it!
I need help figuring out a drama! I saw this particular scene a long time ago on YouTube and couldn’t find it again. It should be a slightly older drama.
Two people go on a trip and get lost, and end up staying in a room together. The guy goes out to get some food or make a call or something like that. For some reason, the girl decides to walk out to look for him, except it’s dark. She gets freaked out by some noise, and suddenly the guy shows up and scares her accidentally. She screams for a bit before she realizes it’s him, and then they realize that the sound was a cat (I think). Help me please! It’s been bugging me for years!
- YaBabo’s scene sounds pretty distinctive, so if you’ve seen it, let us know:
So, a few years ago, I watched a show that I really liked but now I have forgotten its name and most of the plot. I remember a particular scene where a girl prepares to get buried underground at the beach for a dare or something. She wears this kind of watch (not sure ’bout this) and reminds her boyfriend (or friend) to remember to dig her up but he forgets to. Please help me find the name of this show/drama/movie? Oh, and she lies underground in the sand in a glass box, if that helps.
- sourkey has a more recent pick:
It’s a recent drama that I’ve watched but can’t pin it down. I remember one scene from the drama. The second guy texts the main girl to come see him for his birthday even thought it wasn’t. When the main guy found out he said his birthday is in the winter with lots of snow or something?
- Okay, now I want to see the show Di describes:
This is a K-drama that was produce in 2000 or around that time. The story was about a famous singer who kinda dated her manager and a poor girl (who worked at outside markets for a living I think) who looked just like her. The singer got into a car accident along with her parents. They were both killed, and she had her face ruined.
The singer got surgeries to fix her face, then she came back looking way different to find the poor girl had replaced her, thanks to the manager. As she had no other relatives and her manager was the only one knowing about the accident, plus the poor girl fell in love with that douchebag, the singer couldn’t prove she was the real deal. Had no other way, and she started to live a life similar to the life before of the poor girl. (Then I didn’t get to watch anymore 🙁 )
Many thanks!
- I swear Connie’s drama is just on the tip of my tongue… but I can’t quite place it…
I remember a scene from a drama where the heroine is in an elevator, possibly with the hero and an undesirable person. I think the heroine might have been a famous actress? I think the hero rips her dress to make it look like she was attacked by the other guy. I think the hero might have knocked the other guy out, but I’m not sure. Then when the elevators open there are reporters swarming. I feel like this is from a fairly recent drama! Thanks so much!

Yeah, number 4 is definitely Cunning Single Lady! Cha Jung Woo was the one who called Ae Ra, telling her that Seung Hyun's birthday is not until there are lots of snow in the winter. Jung Woo was irritating her over the phone so she hung up on him. The only reason Seung Hyun lied to Ae Ra saying it was his birthday was to get her to meet him. He knew that if he didn't lie to her, she wouldn't meet him.

Yep, #1 and #6 are movies, #1 is '3 Iron' which is a great movie where the main hero (Jae Hee) doesn't speak a single word, i think this was his best role to date acting wise and character wise, the two leads in the movie have so much chemistry and even though you know these two are breaking the law by trespassing on people's houses you can't help but care about them. I recommended this movie to my friends who are not into K-movies and they loved it, so much so that they are fans of K-movies now.
#6 is most definitely '200 Pounds Beauty' like the other commenters have guessed, it's a good movie too and was very popular in Korea when it was released, i know some international fans don't like the movie because they say it's a movie which makes fun of obesity and stuff, but i still like it for what it is, i am the kind of person who thinks movies should just be watched for entertainment and fun, if you start taking everything seriously you are going to miss out on lot of great movies.

problem is, many young folks and children DO take everything seriously and copy a lot of things they see in movies.

Wow! Finally one I think I recognize!
#6 was from 200 Pounds of Beauty! It's a movie, not a drama. This is the scene right before the heroine struts her stuff on stage!

1.) Before the "tally marks" I thought you might be talking about the FANTASTIC movie "3-Iron." The main couple secretly live in people's apartments while the owners are out-of-town. Instead of stealing or hurting the owner's homes, they take care of it and clean it, etc.

Definitely 3 Iron. Fantastic and disturbing movie. But it's not tally marks, it's menus. Jae Hee as Tae Suk leaves take out menus on the doors to figure out who is not at home. Another fantastic thing, like many Kim Ki Duk films, is that the dialogue is so sparse you need practically no Korean at all to understand it.

When the guy was in jail I am pretty sure that he put tally marks on the wall to count his time served.

In 3 Iron-no tally marks-I own it: and yes, he would leave like pizza door hangers on doorknobs, and if a day went by and the door hangers were still there, it meant the people were on vacation. He would go in, eat, take bath, clean the house, repair anything broken, spend the night (or 2), and leave.
One day, he stays in a house not knowing there's a girl there. they get together and go from house to house.

I'm pretty sure that #4 was from Sly and Single Again, Seung-hyun texted Ae-Ra, telling her that it was his birthday and it wasn't.

It thought that, too! It does sound like Total Drama Island, ep7: Phobia Factor. Except, that it would be really weird to mix-up a cartoon with a korean drama. Plus, Total Drama is completely wacky even for kdrama standards.

I think #1 is Hide and Seek. But for this movie, there weren't tally marks. Just markings showing how many ppl are living in that apartment I.e. how many men, women and children.

Ah ok, then yes. My mind didn't even go there, since Lauren mentioned another function for them. If she mistook their use, then it's definitely 'Hide and Seek'.
And the people did not live there when others were at work only. A bit more complicated a turn of events, but close enough.

#1 is Hide and Seek but the marks outside apartment are indicators of how many people actually live there (and that is a good movie, if you like suspense thrillers and good acting).

I don't know what 3-iron is, so maybe everyone else is right.. but what I got outta the description for number 1 is the horror movie "Hide and Seek" that came out last summer. Maybe not, but HandS is like a mother and a daughter who live in other peoples apartments, killing the family, and they leave a tally of the number of people tht used to be in that house or something like that. Again, im not positive, but.. yea

Number 5 sounded so familiar that at first I was wondering if they had made a Korean drama of the Meg Cabot YA book Airhead (really it's a trilogy, but I didn't like the second two).
