Han Hyo-joo takes on dual characters in Beauty Inside
by awcoconuts
Han Hyo-joo (Dong Yi, Brilliant Legacy) continues to expand her film career: Some of her notable works have been Cold Eyes, Bandage, Masquerade and Only You, and not only has she worked on the Japanese movie, Miracle: Devil Claus’ Love and Magic, so far this year, she’s also worked with Kim Yoon-seok, Garbage (oops, I mean Jung Woo) and Kim Hee-ae in the upcoming film C’est Si Bon (about the legendary Korean folk music group, Twin Folio).
According to sources, the actress’s next project will be Beauty Inside, a movie about a man who, each time he falls asleep, wakes up as a different person. The film will follow the man as he desperately tries to get back (in his own body) to the woman he loves. It sounds like a fun premise (a mash-up of Groundhog Day and Freaky Friday), and Han will play both the man who lands in her body and the woman who falls in love with him (erm, maybe it sounds more like Secret Garden).
It has the makings of a hilarious story, and Han has really asserted herself as the actress of her generation — I don’t doubt she can pull off both acts, but now I’m eagerly awaiting the announcement of who will be cast as the male lead. Beauty Inside will be directed by Baek Jong-yeol (known for his CFs and music videos) and will begin filming before the end of the year.

So pumped for this! I don't usually watch Han Hyo-joo's movies but Beauty Inside sounds like it'll be a load of fun. :)
However, I'm still waiting for her to return to dramas. It's been about four years since her last drama. :( Hoping she can star in a drama next year!

You should definitely watch Cold Eyes and Bandage. They are really great movies. I revisit them regularly. And I'm told Only You is good also.

This is a complete rip off of Drake Doremus' "The Beauty Inside"
He directed a social film on YouTube in 2012 of the same title and premise.
What a complete disappointment.
Who is the writer?

I'm not sure how the whole script writing process works, but it doesn't seem like a total disappointment. That is one way to look at it, but here's another; Many American horror films are based on Asian horror films (like Tale of Two Sisters was made into an American version-ish--> The Uninvited). It's not uncommon that plots/scripts are exchanged amongst countries (like Boys Over Flowers). Maybe scripts are being recycled, or it is a rip off. Who knows?

American producers pay for the rights to release their adaptation of the Asian movie source material. I believe that is probably going on here since if it was actual plagiarism, I really doubt the writers and producers would have kept the same title.
Also, a similar premise doesn't mean the writer is being lazy and whatnot. A lot of work goes into remakes and variant adaptations/tellings. Depending on the execution, there is a lot to potentially like here, since it's a fun premise and the reason you would want to tackle it despite someone doing it before.

There was another movie with the same theme also, but don't recall the name except that it was Danish or French/Danish. Every time a woman woke up she was married to a different man :P

That's such an intriguing premise and HHJ always picks the best roles and projects. I'm literally convinced that everything she does will be good.
And since it's reunion year, I demand Go Soo be cast opposite her. I just loved their chemistry in 911 and they need a bigger reunion than a short movie. Or LSG - I don't even need to explain why =P

Yes to Go Soo.
No to LSG. His acting is in the level of idol turn actor, while HHJ is in another level of movie queen.

Nah. Go Soo is on a much higher level than both HHJ and LSG. But those two - they're on the same level in acting. Just that one does dramas, and the other movies. HHJ was overrated in SI and DY, but she's improved immensely over the years, just like Seung-gi.
Of course, we should just agree to disagree.

can't agree less! as much as you do I'm also one of those fans who wish to see them reuniting on a project. BL or SI was my first Kdrama enough to justify why I want to see them working on the same project.
maybe not in this movie yet since Seunggi is shooting his first movie now with MCW but I hope sooner we will get to see them.

From what I know her brother involved in bullying a soldier and lead to suicide...
They blamed her as her agency help her to cover abt this matter and her family compensate that unfortunate family money to bury this issue...
I don't know how far the matter is in Korea but it looks like pretty bad scandal.

Not only that but also she was actively promoting army during that period of time (the incident). According to those who have followed this, they said that her MC has been blocking this issue since a few weeks ago such as removing her brother's issue from the naver/nate real time search. There is no big surprised since she is from B.H Entertainment where Lee Byung Hun belongs to.

Don't know where people are getting that she was actively promoting the army when this all occured. I'm a huge HHJ fan and have been following her since 2006 or so, and the only times she's been actively promoting the army was back in 2008 for the Korean Air Force.

Yea, I've actually heard of this scandal way back in April from her DC, so BH Ent. has been blocking the news for quite a long time now. I'm not sure about promoting the army but I know her father was General in the Korean Air Force so it's a pretty huge deal if it's true.

Lol gurl if you're trying to shade me, please do better than that. I wasn't diminishing anyone's knowledge about the matter and I may or may not know more than some of the Knetz when it comes to HHJ but hey, I'd rather seek out the facts than blindly take someone else's comments as truth.
Either way, the whole case is messy and shady though. Do I blame HHJ in any way? Maybe. Depending if she was actively trying to hide all this or whatever but since that knowledge is unknown to us, I don't blame her at all. It was her parents that tried to "compensate" the victim's family with a lousy sum of money and it was her company who was going around deleting all the articles and blogs. People are acting like the cover-up is as bad as the actual bullying.
What I'm curious about is why they aren't actually saying her name and instead are saying Actress H.

I've read that this case will be covered in the coming episode of 그것이 알고싶다 ("That I want to know", the mystery/crime documentary) - I doubt they'll reference to Han Hyo-Joo, but they'll narrate the details on the incident involving her brother.

The suicide of a soldier happened in July last year, and as far as I know from July to October last year the only thing she did promote was her movie Cold Eyes. Don't spread baseless rumors before considering the facts.

Anyone seen her old movie callef Adlib Night? She was wonderful in it. And since I love a quiet movie, I really love seeing her act in that kind of role.
Adlib Night is a story bout a stranger (HyoJo) who's waiting for someone at a park, but then some guys asked her to help them to see a dying old grandma (or gradpa, I suddenly can't remember) and pretended to be a long-lost grandkid. All the events are happening only on that one night.

"Han has really asserted herself as the actress of her generation"
...Really? Because if that's the case, then that does not bode well for the future of Korea's film industry.
I'd say Moon Chae-won fits that description better than her.

It's all individual preferences. I saw them both in Brilliant Legacy and in my humble opinion, Han Hyo-Joo's acting put Moon Chae-won's to shade. She was really excellent in it. I wasn't surprised to see, later on, that she became a movie actress and I'm sure she's only gotten better as time went on.
Let's give credit to where credit is due. I'm sure Moon Chae-won's an excellent actress, it's just personally, I've never been really impressed by her performance. I don't know.... there are some actors/actresses that grab you and there are other's that don't, even though they are very good at what they do. Another actor that fits that bill for me would be Joo Won. I'm not a fan of his, but I do acknowledge his chameleon-like acting and the way he immerses himself in his roles is something not all actors can do.

Like you said, it is a matter of personal opinion/preference when it comes to acting as it is subjective. Therefore, it is not right to ask the other person to give the credit when it is due if she has a complete different opinion than yours.
To be honest, I dislike it for someone to bring up MCW's name in this as it is completely unnecessary and no point at all. However, personally, her acting touch me more. But as mentioned above, it is just a matter of preference.. not because this one os better than the other or vice versa :)

Hopefully, Gabby could also understand this. There is no right and wrong when it comes to individual opinion regarding subjective matter such as acting. And it is pointless to argue over this matter as it gains us nothing.

Lmao at you trying to be politically correct.. MCW is much better than HHJ in terms of acting. And it`s not even a matter of personal opinion , it`s very obvious to anybody that knows anything about acting.
That doesn`t mean HHJ is a bad actress but she is far from being outstanding talent the industry makes her out to be. She is good in some roles, mediocre in others. But she gets around and has good connections and thats more than obvious. Though with her brothers scandal, who knows where she is headed.

Lmao at you trying to make yourself look like an expert. So, of course you know more about acting than the industry itself, right? Unfortunately, your opinion doesn't equal everyone else's. For some MCW is better and for others HHJ is. Accept that instead of stamping your opinion and saying everyone who doesn't agree with it doesn't know much about the subject.

August 23, 2014 at 2:03 PM
@klir - I agree with you, I'm rather surprised that MCW can possibly be considered lesser than HHJ in terms of ability. HHJ is ok, but kind of like Park Shin-hye - popular and beautiful, but gets by more on a good image than actual acting ability (and I like PSH)

I agree with you there - Moon Chae-won can act circles around her even as a second lead, and in her early career she didn't rely exclusively on her beauty unlike HHJ. HHJ isn't more than middling in ability imo, but she got lucky that she hit it big in the movies.
