Ha Suk-jin joins upcoming weekend drama Legendary Witch

Thank goodness Ha Suk-jin’s dramaland return didn’t take long. The actor, who wrapped Thrice-Married Woman in March, will be returning to MBC in the fall as the male lead in a weekender called Legendary Witch (or Witch of Legend). The new show’s premise sounds interesting: It will revolve around four women who were cellmates at Cheongju’s Penitentiary for Women. Each served time in the slammer, but for different crimes, running the gamut from tame (stock manipulation, fraud) to severe (attempted murder, murder).

Upon their discharge, the four women put the breadmaking skills they learned in prison to use, opening up a bakery together. (That may sound a bit hard to believe, but as we all know, stranger things have happened in dramas; it wouldn’t even be the first time.) Ha Suk-jin will play a hotel chef and widower who is raising his daughter alone after losing his wife six years earlier. In the drama, his heart begins to stir again for the female lead (Han Ji-hye is being courted) after meeting her at the vocational training center at the penitentiary.

Along with Han (Full Sun, I Summon You Gold), veteran matriarch Go Doo-shim, Oh Hyun-kyung (King’s Family) and oft-appearing supporting actress Byun Jung-soo are being courted to play the central characters. The show sounds a little like the extended version, with female cast, of Gift of Room 7, and if the episodes can capture even a tiny bit of the heart the movie had, it’s sure to be a winner.

Legendary Witch will air in October on MBC after Mama – Nothing to Fear concludes its run.

One of my favorite Korean movies is Harmony, which takes place in a women's prison. I loved the friendships among all the female characters in that movie, although it is a real tearjerker. Hopefully this drama will be just as compelling with the relationships between the former cell mates, but with a more uplifting tone!

I'm sure I'm just super clueless but...why the title? I think I got carried away from too many fantastical shows and was expecting there to be an actual witch or something. Witches of Eastwick meets Korean women prisoners lol.

Also I am not familiar with him...but I think I want to be.

After I saw Han Ji Hye in Full Sun I want to see her in a drama that's not really long. Unfortunately Han Ji Hye and Ha Suk Jin love to play in weekend dramas.
The premise is interesting and I hope it's fun rather than makjang.

Do all female convicts in Asian dramas set up bakeries after they get out?

Let me guess... Han Ji Hye's character has something to do with Ha Suk Jin's wife's death.

I find Han Ji Hye's acting cold...more like I feel like she builds a wall around her that her male leads cannot penetrate...

I don't know, but there's always a lack of chemistry even though she's an experienced actress.

On the other hand, I looove Ha Suk Jin...

Now... that's what I call a sexy man!

he's got the looks and the acting chops...

I would say he's a complete package.

One day, I'm hoping to see Ha Suk-jin in an awesome project that will garner him critical acclaim and blast him into popularity. Will this project be the one? I don't know, but I'll always keep hope and be optimistic.

The story sounds good... Love culinary drama. To see Ha Suk-Jin as a baker would be a treat. Love Ko Du-Shim.
I hope Han Ji-hye turns it down, I do not care for her. Same for Byun Jung-soo who was pretty horrid in Ruby's Ring

For a brief second, my eyes read "JI" Suk-jin and not "HA" Suk-jin, so I was like, "Really? Big nose hyung will act in a drama"? :D
