Fated To Love You: Episode 14

This episode takes not-so-long-distance shenanigans to a whole new level as our hero jumps through, over, and under various hoops to catch even a snippet of conversation from his favorite snail before she disappears forever/goes abroad. (Same thing, right?) I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t fun watching Gun squirm now that he finds himself chasing after Mi-young, and while the events that tore them apart are still fresh in our memories and never lost in theirs, this week goes to prove that while Fated To Love You has the power to break hearts, it may just have the power to mend them.

Ratings-wise, Fated slipped back into second place with 10.7% while Joseon Gunman returned to first with 11.0%. Competitor It’s Okay, It’s Love followed close behind with 10.2%. It’s tight this cycle, isn’t it?

EPISODE 14 RECAP

After Mi-young and Gun unexpectedly fall into each other’s arms, Gun reacts with his trademark laugh at seeing Mi-young—but he thinks this is all a dream.

Mi-young’s expression is much different, and when Gun longingly reaches toward what he thinks is Dream Mi-young, Real Mi-young’s eyes fill with tears… right before Gun falls over, drunk.

After dragging him into her room, Mi-young sits by his side for a while, debating whether to touch him like she wants. In the end she doesn’t, and Gun wakes up the next morning alone with a note from her explaining what happened last night, along with the polite reminder that he should return to his room before she gets back. “It would be nice if we didn’t see each other again,” the note finishes.

Gun is flabbergasted when he reads it: “Last night wasn’t a dream?” Then he sighs that Mi-young doesn’t even want to see his face. But then he remarks to himself that she really isn’t a post-it girl anymore—she’s superglue.

Mi-young can’t help but think back to Gun being so happy to see her in his “dream” last night and thinks to herself that, unlike him, she didn’t ever want to see him in her dreams.

After accidentally witnessing Gun leaving Mi-young’s room, Daniel doesn’t directly reference it when he sees Mi-young. She feels a duty to be open about Gun’s unexpected visit last night, only for Daniel to stop her: “Is the person you met by chance yesterday so important that you need to tell me about him?”

She shakes her head no after realizing that Daniel knew about Gun already, and Daniel’s more than happy to switch subjects to the person who bought Mi-young’s prized painting.

But it becomes clear that he’s hiding how he feels about Gun from her, not just because of the serious looks he sneaks when she’s not watching, but because he literally confronts Gun as he’s checking out. Ha, did they go from one cafe scene just to go into another?

They share veiled pleasantries as they talk about “Ellie” (as Daniel only calls her), even though Daniel feels the need to assert his dominance when it comes to Gun by telling him that he’ll let the hotel incident slide this time, but never again. “I don’t play that role anymore. Me comforting her when you hurt her… I’ve played that role enough.”

Gun’s not interested in comparing weenie sizes though, and instead rises to his feet to give Daniel a respectful bow: “Then you must be better at it. The person who’s usually in that role tends to do it better. Thank you… for watching over Mi-young so well.” Daniel’s in a fightin’ mood, and returns his gesture by asking him whether he has the right to even say that.

“Let’s get something straight: I’m not looking after her. I’m by her side because she’s someone I like and who’s precious to me.” Daniel adds. Gun, again, doesn’t take the confrontational bait, but is put at ease with Daniel saying that since he claims he can read people very, very well.

Gun can only watch from his car as Mi-young greets people outside the art gallery, and wishes her a sincere congratulations she’ll never hear. It sounds more like a final goodbye, as he says aloud his hope that she’ll keep moving up in the world.

“But as for me… I liked seeing you,” he adds, right before he makes snail hands. D’aww.

Mama Yong is singing a different tune about Mi-young now that she’s in the news and is headed for artist stardom, but it’s still cute how Yong is still ever-supportive of his sister-in-law.

He even shows Mi-young’s news articles to Grandma Wang, who can’t contain her excitement when she realizes that Mi-young is officially back in Korea—but she can’t bring herself to tell Gun about it either, thinking he’s still in the dark.

Daniel gets some good news over the phone and unexpectedly backhugs Mi-young in joy: He thinks he’s finally found his sister. Mi-young is overjoyed at the news and hugs him in return, gladly accepting his offer for her to go with him to meet his prospective sister in Seoul.

Mi-young is excited to get a text from Young-ja/Gun, and I really like the way they’re handling their text exchanges by having Mi-young and Gun speak their written words. The split screen is made so that it looks like they’re sleeping in the same bed, and it’s extra cute how they react like they are in the same room. (And that Gun is wearing his couple pajamas, aw.)

Gun shies away when Mi-young asks if she can meet him regarding the painting, making up some excuse that he can’t meet her face to face because his “woman’s skin” is all broken out and unpresentable, ha. Mi-young, as always, is understanding.

But she still hopes to trade the painting he bought with one she promises to make from scratch, and in an effort to move him, she asks if he has a child—since out of all the paintings, he chose the one with a child as the subject.

“Yes, I do,” Gun replies to her question with a faraway look in his eyes. “A very pretty child.” Oof, my heart. It’s even worse when Mi-young says she’d like to meet his child, only for Gun to reply with a faraway look and a sigh that it would be amazing if they could. This is so, so sad. Beautiful, but sad.

As the text conversation ends, Gun turns in his bed like he’s looking at her and wishes her good night. The sad reality is that they’re both sleeping alone on the same sides of the bed they used to occupy when sleeping together, with Mi-young bravely fighting back the urge to cry.

Manager Tak gives Gun a good scolding for going off on a “business trip” without him, only for the tables to turn when he smells something fishy in the way Gun’s acting. Ah, so he’s the one who told Gun about Mi-young’s exhibition, and when he asks Gun whether he went, Gun tries hiding under his desk. Hah.

Mi-young gives Daniel moral support as he fidgets in nervousness while waiting to meet his sister. The private investigator brings a girl through the door who immediately throws herself into Daniel’s arms, crying, “Oppa!” Daniel’s eyes fill with tears as he tentatively returns her embrace. Has he finally found her?

The private investigator leaves once he’s satisfied that he’s reunited the right pair this time—all the DNA seems to match, and she has a scar on her back matching the description of Daniel’s sister. But the “sister” in question seems mightily discomfited by Mi-young’s presence… something tells me she’s got a hidden agenda.

When her students complain about being too tired to keep practicing, Se-ra proves that she’s not the hard-nosed teacher you’d think she would be by taking the girls out for ice cream. She gets the kind she once got with Gun, and sighs over a picture of them together, wishing he’d contact her once in a while.

Drinking out of a coffee cup with a baby drawn on brings back painful memories of the moment when Keddongie’s Cup shattered forever. Luckily, Daniel’s arrival shakes Mi-young out of her sad reverie, and his attention is drawn to drawing of a mother and child she’s making for Young-ja/Gun, so that she can get her original back in return.

As for Daniel, he’s just happy to have his sister back. Mi-young accepts his invitation for the three of them to go out to eat tomorrow before lightly protesting when Daniel insists it’s his right to watch her draw. She folds and plays along—after all, he is her teacher.

The painting is delivered to Gun, who marvels as he says to himself that this is what Keddongie would have looked like if she/he had ever been born. “Hi, Keddongie,” he addresses the picture. So sad.

Mi-young then texts him to say she’ll be returning to France soon, which only serves to make Gun upset since he wanted her to stay longer. He doesn’t return her text, leaving Mi-young wondering if he/Young-ja is upset. But as she gives up her seat to a new mother on the bus, she gets a call for an important company meeting.

Cut to: Gun having an important company meeting with Manager Tak and Yong about how to improve their image to increase sales among younger women.

They suggest using a prominent female artist to give their brand a revamp, but Yong’s push for Ellie Kim/Mi-young is shot down by Gun immediately on the basis that she’s not as popular domestically as she is internationally. Manager Tak was prepared for this and provides research to the contrary, leaving Gun with a conundrum—he knows they shouldn’t meet again, even if he wants to…

After Mi-young’s family tries all they can to convince her to stay and work in Korea instead of returning to France, she’s called away for a meeting with Yong. He makes it seem like they’re just catching up after a long separation, until he ushers someone else over: Gun.

Gun is just as surprised as Mi-young is by Yong’s matchmaking, even though Yong defends his actions as being for the company—it’s not right for Gun to reject Mi-young as an artist just because of their personal issues. He has no shame in leaving the two of them alone with no other avenue but to speak to each other.

She doesn’t seem keen on having a long conversation with Gun, since she cuts him off mid-explanation about the “misunderstanding” from the other night by saying that there was no misunderstanding. He was drunk and banging on her door, and while she could’ve acted like she didn’t know him, she didn’t. End of story.

Gun tries making small talk, only to get terse replies in return. When Mi-young asks if he’s been healthy, he responds that he has, which prompts her to politely say she’s relieved before she gets up to leave. But Gun stops her in an effort to have her hear him out on their possible collaboration.

She tries using the excuse that she’s too expensive (which of course doesn’t matter to him), before she decides on honesty: “And I think it’s best we don’t see each other in any way. I’m no longer the Kim Mi-young you knew back then. Just like how you’re not the Gunnie you were to me back then. Even if we can’t do anything about the past, let’s not make things uncomfortable for either of us here on out.”

Gun’s reply is to quickly backpedal. “You must be mistaken, Kim Mi-young. I’m not at all interested in you. At all. Well, at one time… at one time, I had hoped we could live happily together. But the thought of crossing paths and starting all over again? Don’t… don’t you worry about that!” Good thing he’s a CEO and not an actor, because he ain’t foolin’ nobody.

He looks uncomfortable and more than a little sad after she leaves, even as he notes to himself that she’s changed a lot. Then his face scrunches when the coffee he drinks isn’t sweet, harkening back to Mi-young’s adage about how people who like sweet things are people who want to be happy as Mi-young tries to convince herself that what she did and said was right.

Mi-young overhears Daniel’s “sister” making plans with the private investigator who found her—it turns out she’s a fake, and has been working with the private investigator to fool Daniel in order to tap into his considerable wealth.

It must be hard for her when she shares a meal with Daniel and Not Mi-young, since Daniel can’t stop talking about how happy he is to be with the two Mi-young’s he loves the most.

Even though Daniel buys Not Mi-young’s story about how she wants to get married but has no money (a ploy to get him to pay for everything), Mi-young confronts her on her lies when Daniel leaves the table. Not Mi-young is put in a bind when Mi-young gently but firmly asks if she’d be willing to re-do the DNA test, since both of them know she’d fail.

Mi-young tries to talk reason into the girl by explaining how long Daniel has been searching for his sister, and how he’s not the kind of person she’ll let be fooled or hurt so easily.

When Not Mi-young fights back with excuses, Mi-young tells her she’d be better off mugging Daniel at knifepoint. “Do you know what’s the worst thing in this world is? Manipulating someone’s sincerity. That’s something one person should never do to another person.”

Daniel ends up overhearing the truth with wide, disbelieving eyes as Not Mi-young is forced to turn tail and run. Needless to say, he’s devastated, as he tells Mi-young at the playground he frequents whenever he’s thinking of his sister. It was the last time they saw each other as children, and all because a young Daniel left to get his sister ice cream.

He carries that guilt to this day, firmly believing that he wouldn’t have lost his sister if he hadn’t left her then. Mi-young comforts him by putting her hand over his as she stresses that it wasn’t his fault, “You were at an age where you deserved someone’s love and care. That child who thought everything was his fault… please forgive him now.”

Daniel thanks her sincerely with tears in his eyes, but doesn’t cheer up when Mi-young offers to be his sister for the day, because he’s ready to stop searching for her—he wants to believe she’s living well somewhere and live his own life. But he looks pointedly at Mi-young when he says, “I want to make a real family of my own.”

Gun texts Mi-young (as Young-ja, of course), when she’s got a lot on her mind—Daniel wants to talk to her about something, and she seems to know what it’s about. Gun encourages her to open up using the excuse that he/she’s her number one fan and that they’re both women. Haha.

Mi-young, representing herself in text form, joins Gun at his house as she admits she’s worried that someone will confess his feelings soon, since he’d already told her he wanted to make a family. Gun is completely taken aback, but keeps it all in even as he pelts her with questions: Does this mean “that person” is going to propose? How does she feel about it?

He is fuh-reaking out about this, and it’s hilarious when Mi-young answers his question by saying, “In the past three years, I thought that if I were to make another family with someone, it would be with that person.” Gun deflates.

But when she says that she’s filled with conflicting thoughts now, Gun pumps his fists in relief and happiness. “The thing about decisions is, you have to spend a lot of time and think them over or else you’ll be seen as an easy woman,” Gun advises her through text. He goes on to say how marriage isn’t a joke and she can’t rush into things lest she be seen as an easy woman—you’d almost think Gun was trying to talk her out of it.

It’s really cute how he gets to move around Mi-young while he goes into this long, drawn-out explanation about decisions, because they’re both talking to each other without actually seeing each other. He’s hanging on every second, waiting to know what she’s decided… only for her to shut down the topic.

At least they agree to be on more familiar terms, since Gun calls himself her sunbae and Mi-young asks if she can call Young-ja the more informal “unni.” Ha, and is that a Chuno reference when he’s mulling over the word “unni?” (He and his gang, even though they were men, would say “unni” instead of the more modern “hyung.”)

Yong comes out to ask Gun to reconsider the collaboration with Mi-young, but Gun chases him back inside with his magical freezing powers, while Yong fights back with his magical fire powers. I love how Gun totally gets Yong’s fire powers because “yong” translates to “dragon.”

While Mi-young considers her options when Daniel sends her a text reminder of their date tonight, Gun tries to talk himself out of the way he’s been acting with her while staring at her picture. He knows he shouldn’t be talking to her AT ALL, and knows he should just wish for her happiness… but when she text him, he couldn’t grab his phone any faster.

In her text, Mi-young tells him that she’s leaving Korea tomorrow and won’t be able to meet him before she leaves—but she hopes he’ll take care of the painting. Gun can’t just let her leave, and gets her to disclose her current location with the promise that he’ll return her painting.

He speeds to the theater with the painting in the passenger seat while Mi-young goes inside to meet Daniel. Gun stops to think for only the briefest of moments before jumping out of the car…

…While inside, Mi-young sits in the empty theater as Daniel lights up the projector. He starts making her a picture from scratch using only sand, depicting a man and a woman holding hands on a hilltop. As he morphs and changes the picture to tell their story, we hear it in voiceover:

“A lonely man who lost his little sister met a lonely woman who lost her baby. Those two people decided to share in that loneliness together. Amazingly, even though it was hard bearing it alone, it wasn’t hard at all bearing it together. Like that, those two people will not tire until the end. They’ll build a strong house and live happily ever after.”

Mi-young’s eyes fill with unshed tears as she smiles. Daniel pulls a bouquet of flowers from the podium as he approaches her, both of them unaware Gun has been in the theater, watching everything.

Daniel kneels in front of Mi-young as he offers the flowers: “Mi-young… Will you become my real family?”

COMMENTS

It’s about time! Not that I’d be crazy enough to root for the second lead in a show where the outcome is literally written in the title, but Daniel’s been sitting on ice long enough. His time to shine was long overdue, not necessarily because he’s earned it (he’s great on paper, don’t get me wrong), but because he himself admitted that his role in Mi-young’s life has shifted. He no longer has to protect or save her from Gun, so as a character more so than a person, he had to adapt to survive.

Even as a kindly neighborhood oppa, Daniel was just sort of there, and aside from whisking Mi-young away to France to help her start a new life, I’m fairly convinced Mi-young could’ve weathered all the pain that came her way without him, just because she’s awesome like that. But I admit to being a little confused when it came to Daniel before The Accident, since he’d said he was going to be braver when it came to his feelings for Mi-young… and then he wasn’t. Which is okay, since we all would’ve hated him if he forced his feelings on Mi-young when she was in no place to accept them. And even now, after she’s had time move on and get to know Daniel more, her hesitation says a lot about how she feels. Oooorrr does it? We’ll find out next week, that’s for sure.

What’s interesting now about the changed dynamic when it comes to Gun and Mi-young’s not-a-relationship is that even though Mi-young might have questioned herself after telling Gun she never wanted to see him again, and even if she has lingering feelings for him, she’s the one who—at least on paper—has moved on. Gun has been the one keeping tabs on her over the years, he’s been the one following her around town and acting chummy with her mom, and now he’s resorted to using a false identity just to be able to talk to her. I wonder if Mi-young would have felt much of anything going back to France and severing all possible lines of communication with Gun again. Then again, what other options did he give her?

In that sense, I’m not quite sure what’s changed in these three years to bring Gun back from the brink, even though I’m happy as a clam to see him back to his old antics again. If it’s just a matter of him changing his mind about death, it kind of makes the whole rigmarole of him pushing her away moot, doesn’t it? There’s always the option that Gun, who’s proven himself to be quite the hypochondriac, convinced himself he had his family’s full-blown genetic disease even if he wasn’t sure. But if that’s the case and he’s just choosing to take things day by day, then nothing’s actually changed as far as the possibility of him succumbing to the illness in the future. Compared to that, Daniel’s third wheel interference is nothing—we’ve seen what Gun can do when he sets his mind to something.

But of course there’s the flip side to that, since Gun seems to be unable to control himself when it comes to being in the same city as his ex(?)-wife. I love that about him, even if I’m still making peace with his actions leading up to and following the loss of Keddongie. The ball is firmly in his court now, and has been ever since he pushed Mi-young away. Once he realizes that life doesn’t have to be filled with miserably cold showers and self-induced loneliness, the world will be his escargot. Go get ‘er, Gun—or at least hurry up and get back in line.

Just a light note that it's kaedong (dog). Because kedong is crap poop. ^^;; 개 dog 게 crab.

They sound similar in Korean, though some modern Koreans don't distinguish, the older generation does distinguish between the sounds (and teachers/profs too).

First off ... this is Fated to Love You ... not Rationally Chose to Love You ... so I think we can all safely assume that in the end, Gun and Mi-Young will be together happily.

Because, let's face it ... on paper and with our rational minds switch on, Daniel is the best choice for Mi-Young ... anyone of us would gladly see our daughters be married off to a man such as he.

But the whimsical nature in all of us, want to see the quirky and loveable Gun win out, and of course he will ... it's fated to be so after all ....

My wife, being my wife ... of course is nervous about the outcome but I'm not ... Much like our favorite alien romance show from not to long ago, this show has constantly proven that it does in fact remember that it is a rom-com.

And I really do like the fact that when there are tears ... it's not melodramatic tears, but sweet and tender ones.

Oh and one last thing ... what the heck died and landed on top of Mi-Young's oldest sister's head?

Great recap! Great drama! Great cast and crew! I hope they keep this up till the last ep. Most dramas would have lost steam by now. But not this one. :)

And great ost too. Especially love the piano theme they keep playing during solemn moments.

This week's episodes had me clutching my pearls. Gun's struggle to stay away from Mi Young while watching her from afar with deep longing... I know he brought this on himself but I desperately wish for his happiness. It's like telling a child not to touch the fire but watching them rich it anyway... to be hurt. You hope the child will learn, and become a better person. Gun made TONS of mistakes, he's making a few more (Lee Young Ja: the fake unni) but I would hope he'll be a better Gunnie-ssi.

I like that Mi Young is showing her strength, her backbone in not faltering at the sight of him. She loved him without unwavering and when he threw her away, she had to heal on her own. It's good that she is standing firmly on her resolve to forget him, even though her expressions around him betray her heart.

The texting conversations warmed my heart, and I hope after Mi Young freaks about her "unni" really being Oppa Gunnie, they'll come to realize how easily they relate... I find that she is more dynamic with Gun/Unni Young Ja than she is with Daniel.

There is a boring redundancy with Daniel that I can't ignore. It's like they are having the SAME conversations in different clothes and scenes. There is literally no romantic connection between them. Like they are destined to be "siblings." The back hug he gave her was a bit forced, the almost kiss in episode 13 had me cringing. To me Daniel is just the band-aid to Mi Young's wound.

In isolation, Daniel is a dream. He's attractive, supportive, inspiring and secure. I rather have a man that didn't have me on an emotional rollercoaster because he's my "fate." I want to root for him, but I just can't because he doesn't fit for Mi Young. Even early in the drama when Mi Young hasn't fallen hard for Gun, Daniel didn't stand a chance. His proposal didn't hit for me because again, their chemistry doesn't help his cause. Instead of swooning, I kept thinking "that's a cool trick." It was as if he was proposing for her to be his sister.

I know these next three weeks will be so painful. Gun has a long fight ahead of him. He not only has to come to terms with his disease, he also has to prove he's a better Gun that Mi Young wants and needs.

I'm rooting hard for you, Gunnie-ssi. Don't let me down.

I totally agree with you about Daniel! While some people who commented found the proposal amazing, I just didn't feel anything. Yes, in theory, that was a great proposal... But there were no sparks. You don't sense Miyoung being breathless (compared with the fireworks scene with Gun). And the whole time I was wondering if Daniel recorded his voice because he wasn't talking while doing the sand art. Or was that merely a voiceover? If it was recorded, that's weird... Why would you record a proposal? If it wasn't and it was just a voiceover, then the actual proposal loses most of its meaning.

YES!! The awe in her eyes as she gazed at Gun just before the fireworks had ME breathless! That look had me believing that Gun was the only one for her.

I relate to Mi Young in that her life has been simple, quite normal aside the one-night encounter with Gun. She never tested boundaries, she played it safe for 29 years... and then her life completely changed when she met Gun. Quiet, safe Mi Young needs someone as bombastic and fierce like Gun. Think about it, she wouldn't have discovered her talent for art if Gun hadn't been a part of her life. She may have never met Daniel if it wasn't for Gun... That's the message of fate, I suppose. I'm not a believer of fate but this writer has me thinking.

In any case... Daniel is TOO SAFE of an option for her. Sure, he'll grow her as an artist, but he won't grow her otherwise. I get that after the hell she went through, he's a balm for her wound. But her feelings for Gun run deep. After a while, Daniel's "sweet" proposal won't hold up to Gun's fierce pursuit. (I really hope he comes through with an appropriate, heart-jerking proposal for Mi Young).

Daniel really is a great guy, romantic and sweet. He's just not for Mi Young.

I agree with you. Daniel need Mi Young to be his family (sister) not his wife. But DP is a stupid blind who don't know about this fact. I think Mi Young know! Hope writer-nims will give us a nice outcome in next episode.

This is all I kept thinking about when I was watching Daniel's proposal. So it wasn't romantic to me at all, just very very sad.

Unlike most others it seems, I did not find it romantic at all either. It was more like a last gasp effort on Daniels part, even though it has been obvious since forever that Miss Snail has just about zero romantic feelings for him.

I don't think she will accept the proposal because MY becomes strong the super glue but she still has the kind heart. She will not use DP to ease herself the pain. Gun will leave before he hears her answer to DP. there was questions. Who support MY when she was in Paris. As someone say there was no divorce paper sign from Gun. so that they still marry. Gun may be now take out the divorce paper to sign it and find out the fake document by Sera. MY have to go her ex-boss the lawyer to find out the status of her marriage to Gun. Then she will find out the last will that Gun has the lawyer draft which will leave MY all of Gun's assets and money.

Disregarding how the Taiwan version went, she left almost immediately for overseas, and unless something was left out the divorce papers were never filed.

You can sign all the agreements in the world, but they mean nothing until the papers are actually submitted to the court, and I don't think that was done.

1) So, I LOVED the texting scenes, especially the one in the beds with with split screen. BUUUUUUT... oh my goodness, such a violation! I don't see how Mi Young can realistically forgive Gun once she finds out that he approached herinert forced pretenses and got her to spill her private thoughts.

2) I wish they wouldn't drag out this Long Lost Sister thing. It's not like Daniel needed this shock for him to realize his feelings for Mi Young. So why did he need to be catapulted into action. Just bring on Sera already, we all know it's coming.

3) I equally dislike the way they are dragging out getting Gun and Mi Young back in the same vicinity. Enough with the drunken mix up and matchmaking chicanery. Glad Gun is finally doing something proactive... I hope he follows through this time though.

If Gun really were to die I would've liked for Miyoung to accept Daniel's proposal. He may be her 2nd choice, but you can live a happy married life with a 2nd choice as well. I don't know if anyone here has seen the Bollywood movie Kal Ho Naa Ho. Just in case someone wants to see it, I'll put a SPOILER warning, before giving my thoughts on that movie and this drama. It's been a long time since I’ve seen it though, so I might have some facts wrong.

*** SPOILER ***

Basically, the main guy Aman has a weak heart and will probably die young because of that (in his 30s). He moves to NYC so he can visit his doctor more often. There he meets this girl Naina whom he instantly falls in love with. She starts out disliking him, but over the course of the movie starts to warm up to him as well, and eventually falls in love with him. In the mean time her best friend Rohit (the 2nd lead) also starts to realize he loves her. Aman, knowing that he'll die, plays matchmaker and tries to set them up. Naina thinks Aman doesn't love her and decides to give Rohit a chance. She isn't fully in love with him, but during this time you can tell she's starting to see him in a different light, and may actually develop something for him too. Then she discovers that Aman will die, and all this time has actually loved her. Which leaves her heart-broken. In the mean time the 2nd lead is also heart-broken, knowing that he’ll lose someone that has become his friend, but also in dealing with the fact that Naina had all this time seen him as a way to get over Aman. In the end she does marry Rohit just before Aman dies.
I think this movies really showed why there is such a thing as Noble Idiocy. It showed how Naina would have probably grown over Aman and fallen in love with Rohit, but now that she knows Aman did love her, and they would have had a chance weren't it for his illness, she'll always carry that pain with her, which Aman didn't want for her. It also showed how the 2nd best could in a way actually be the best for you. I think Rohit and Naina had a loving marriage, despite both knowing she would have been with Aman if things had turned out differently.
In the case of Daniel and Miyoung, I believe they could be happy together if Miyoung really thought she didn’t have a chance with Gun. It may not be the same love as she had with Gun, but it wouldn’t make her miserable; in fact I think she would be quite happy with him.

*** END SPOILER (with comparisons) ***

The thing is, in this drama I think deep down she knows Gun does love her, and maybe that’s why she’s holding on. There’s no way she didn’t realize as much after the drunken scene, but at the same time she knows that despite him loving her, he still pushed her away. As long as this is all she know, she won’t take the first step, because she’s afraid he’ll hurt her feelings again. For all she knows he chose Sera over her. I hope the next thing she discovers after finding out he...

cont.

I hope the next thing she discovers after finding out he was the one who bought the painting, is the fact that he never got back with Sera. In fact he ended things with her, before he ended his relationship with Miyoung. I think she would indeed choose to stay with him if she knew he had a disease, which brings me to another favorite movie of mine ‘A Walk To Remember’. Again just in case someone hasn’t seen it yet, but would want to, I’ll go ahead and post a SPOILER-warning. Again it’s been a long time since I’ve seen it, so facts could be wrong.

*** SPOILER ***
In this movies it’s the girl (Jamie) that has a terminal illness. But instead of going with Noble Idiocy she decides to tell the lead Landon, after their relationship starts to become more serious. Of course he’s heart-broken, but after some time he decides he still wants to be with her. They get married right before she dies. Leaving him with memories of a short, but lovely time. In the book he doesn’t get remarried; in the movie he’s too young to tell whether he’ll remarry someday; in a way it’s up to the viewers imagination.
Of course FTLY is a rom-com, and I suppose the drama won’t end in either way the two movies I mentioned did, but it just had me thinking;)

*** SPOILER***

I've written way too much again; I hope there aren't too many mistaken, I can't edit those..

I do hope he comes clean about him being the buyer of the painter sooner rather than later. In fact I hope he'll wait for her in the theater, regardless of her answer to Daniel (which I think will be not be a yes, though I'm not sure she'll flat out say no. The old Miyoung would probably not be able to turn him down, but I hope the new Miyoung has learned to tell people no, other than just Gun), but I digress... The fact that he's been talking to her, all the while pretending to be a woman does not sit well with me. Miyoung, at this point, wouldn't want to share her thoughts with Gun, so I feel a bit uneasy watching those scenes. At the same time I feel really sad for Gun, 'cause this is the only way he gets to have an intimate conversation with her. I know it wasn't his intention. It was Miyoung that contacted him, and now that the door is open, he of course can't help but step in now and then, but I hope this was the last episode with that plot device. I hope next episode will finally give us an honest and intimate face-to-face scene. The text scenes where a nice way to give us the feeling they were together, even though they weren’t, but now I want the real deal. ‘Cause the text scenes also managed to give the feeling of how far apart they were, which also added to the sadness of it all. I just hope by ep 16 we’ll have the cute and funny back..

I just keep remembering MY's face when she thought Daniel was going to kiss her at the bar.......and LG could barely hold himself back from her after just a month so I have a hard time believing Daniel feels as passionate since in three years he could only hold her hand for a few seconds before she got out of it in the car. Why would she marry a man that she can't even handle the smallest amount of physical affection from?

It's beggars belief that you people think Daniel is insincere. He's spent 3 years of his life with her and in that time hasn't forced himself upon her, respected her, helped her grow and find her own path. He doesn't want to be the Prince and sorry but Fireworks don't amount to much when you drop the one person you love in the ditch when they need you the most.

Gun refuses to share any of Miyoung's pain with her. And yet we should feel bad for him?? Not until he does something.

How is Guns love more sincere when they were forced upon each other and he's done some awful things to her.

Life is hard to live, and unfortunately Drama Fate will bring these two together but hopefully Miyoung will make him beg beforehand.

I liked Taiwan's version but I like this one even more.
Where Taiwan's choose the manga caricature vibe Korea's went for the human's vibe.
This show is focused on feelings and what could happen in real life (minus the circumstances of their one night stand).
I appreciated that Sera didn't turn out to be an evil witch overnight and tried to make MY get an abortion. I liked that the miscarriage wasn't the consequence of blatant stupidity from MY nor a lack of trust in Gun but a "real" accident. I liked that Gun realised he was falling for his snail and faced his feelings for both women, made a choice and stuck by it. I love that he still cares for his mother-in-law and she reciprocates the affection. Even if he did the noble idiot act he didn't let go of MY and kept tabs on her supporting her and her family the best he could.

The scriptwriters did a wonderfull job at reconnecting both through the painting for their child. It make sens that they keep texting each other because she didn't intended to sale the painting (a least much more than out of gratitude).
All the characteres are thouroughly consistent with themselves which is rare enough to be pointed out. Dramaland tends to work in real time and consistency of caracteres or believable plot development take too often the back seat.
Can't wait to see how gun will stop MY from going back to France and to give him a secong chance.

I actually think that Daniel is a boring person.Very unrealistic and onesided.I don't think he is the ideal man.He is good but its the only thing he has.Very humble indeed. On the other hand Gun is a HUMAN BEING with mistakes. But a good heart. He is easy to symphatise with. And i think the show have forgetten something very important.Gun saved their child in the first place. While Mi Young was having a operation,he came.He saved the baby.Daniel was always criticising how he treated Mi Young. But what would he do if it were him?I think Gun did the best he could.Yes he made mistakes which led to very sad happenings. However he did them for Mi Young's sake.He gave up so many things for her.For the child.Since the beginning of the show we are watching sacrifices of Gun.Giving up on his propasal, giving up on his feelings, giving up on MY because of the disease.I am not saying Gun is an angel without wings but he is a good man and he was a good husband too.So Daniel is annoying as hell to me.He did an awesome thing, taking care of MY,leading her to France etc.But can't he see,she doesn't love him?I am sick of the same things he does again again and again.
Besides that i love everything, each and every single thing of the show.Feelings are so real.Actors are so good.In the episode 13 we saw the relationship of the mother and Gun.It was so sweet.Characters growth and relationships progress are well done. Each time i watch an episode i have a genuine feeling.Especially Gun character,Jang Hyuk does wonders.
Well,as everyone I can't wait for the next episode!

I say one thing, that is how many k-drama have you heard of the idea you do not have to love the person you marry as long as he/she matches with you, love can come in time..it almost a built in idea on marrige in k-drama, the fact that drama go for love rather than matching likey shows just how often..ie not very..that it happens that way in 'real' life.

Reading about Robin Williams, can't help it, i just want to share this line in his Good Will Hunting movie, dedicated to our OTPs who have been tip toeing from each other:

after re-watching ep14, here is my fearless theory on what might happen. Gunnie will make his presence felt even before MY will give her answer. What typically happens the lead leaves and sulk then thinks of his gameplan. Watching Fated, they used what tropes that have happened in other dramas and re-used it well or differently.

Just a thought...because it is killing playing out what is next .....

I don't like Daniel. He acts like he knows everything about MY and Gun's relationship which in fact he knows NOTHING about their relationship. How can in episode 9 when photoshoot session he shamelessly touched and held someone's else wife who was pregnant when there was her husband next to her. I'm waiting the time when MY finally tell him that her love and heart only belongs to Gun mwahahaha

I re watch episode 13 & 14 again, I can't strand for Daniel face anymore. He is the most annoying super-selfish second lead I ever scene in Kdrama world. Never have this situation with FTLY before but I have to skip all his scene. His character make whole episodes far from a nice one for me. Writer-nims and PD-nims, please give him Sara and let both of them disappear to Paris. I think this two characters start to ruin FTLY if you give them too much airtime. Please, don't focus on this 2 senseless characters. We never have time to understand both of them. And I won't try to understand them since I have my eye on Lee Gun and Kim Mi Young in FTLY only! I hate DP and SR. Let's them disappear from upcoming episode of FTLY, please! Chaybai! Ahhhh!

Dear international fans of Korean 'Fated to Love You'

We have started a demand survey to estimate demand for FTLY Director's Cut DVD!
This is to figure out if pushing for Director's Cut is actually possible, and if there's not enough demand, we won't be seeing Director's Cut DVD at all.

Our current goal is to get 2000 sign-ups.
With enough people's cooperation, FTLY Director's Cut DVD would feature a lot of bonus videos!
Director's Cut will include not only the broadcasted scenes, but also the unreleased cuts that were edited out due to time limit. Also, it will additionally feature BTS film, NG cuts, and interviews of actors, writers and the director.

*Episodes will have English subtitles
*Bonus videos will not have subtitle

Signing up for DVD purchase right now does not imply binding purchase decision. This is only a survey to estimate the demand.

To participate, please email [email protected] with the subject including 1)country of your residence 2)number of DVD you want to purchase.
ex) 1)U.S.//2) 1
(If you have already sent an email and didn't follow this format, it's fine. It's just for convenience)

The deadline for signing up is August 28.
Thank you for your cooperation, and please spread the word around!

Looks like Sera Kang is the long lost sister of Danielle Pitt.

Sera Kang ate ice cream alone instead of eating patbingsu with her students. The way she held the ice cream must have a meaning to her because of her oppa, Danielle, who bought ice cream for her but she was taken away by the one who adopted her when they were kids. Remember when her mother was too strict to her for doing ballet.

First, thanks for recap.

Second, i will share my ideas in points :

1 - i didn't react with daniel's proposal cuz it felt like he's proposing to MY to be his future Sister NOT his WIFE (was mentioned in previous comment).

2 - i didn't like him judging Gun & Accusing him of hurting MY (He didn't ask MY about her feelings or relationship with her husband after the miscarriage, I think he took the chance of her divorce with Gun & sent her right to paris).

3 - The text messages were heart breaking.

4 - i'm afraid of MY reaction to Gun Being YJ. There' a storm coming.

5 - Gun is such a good person despite lying on MY. I mean this guy left his GF & married her, gave MY strength to be what she is today, chose her over his child, sacrificed his happiness to let her have hers instead, & still good to her family despite their ugly divorce & scandal. This man did what others will never think of doing even if in the same sitauation.

6 - i hoped that Gun will chang more after 3 years, & growing up to be a fierce, strong CEO & man, but that's OK i guess, i hope that we will see a different attitude from him in the future. i think Gun needs to be stronger in order to regain his wife & maintain his Poistion & family wealth.

7 - MY is such a caring & good person, trying to please everyone. She evolved in contrast to Gun.

8 - I'm still hoping that Gun & MY didn't actually get divorced cuz this will chang the game.

Thanks Again for the recap.

WOW I'll always be amazed at how much emotion Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara convey with just their EYES.

They turned a potentially trite and overdone storyline into something gratifying and SO ENGAGING.

I feel so much for the characters its almost as if I knew them in real life D:

My thoughts after watching this episode was... how do you propose to someone you had not kiss to build a family with you? (or not that Gun and Mi Young remember kissing before they accidentally had a baby and got married). I know Daniel meant that perhaps to date with the notion of marriage... he might have thought he was the one whom was beside her the past 3 years.... and Mi Young is definitely touched by the proposal and definitely have good feelings about him. Not that she thought that she had wavered her feelings for Gun since she resolute of her feelings of starting afresh 3 years ago. Hence worse cliffhanger ever yet in this series... Next episode cannot come sooner.

That said all the more I am convinces because it hurts this bad.... all the more they will be endgame.

And the split screen text message or those faux scene of our snail couple in the same screen... arggghhhhhh bitter-sweet...

Finally,cm down to the comments part. This drama is really killing it out of the park.

New light seeing actor Jang Hyuk playing Lee Geon role.Just made for him with his OTT antics. The drama really seemed old school rom-com with so balance between both and the use of its OST overload.

But i still love this drama.Different light seeing Jang Hyuk,he is amazeballs.

Funny how Gun thought of having the painting sent to Secretary Tak's mother's address.:))) I was wondering if Mi Young would kinda discover Gun's ploy by looking at the address where the painting was delivered.:)) (this part is not elaborated but is so hilarious not to think about)

There is a thing bothering me all along, and it has to do with Huntington's disease. It's a very cruel one, both for the sufferer and his family.
Why does this family keep having children? They should adopt - the only way to eliminate the gene.
Yes, he should have told her clearly about the disease when she was considering abortion - she had the right to make an informed decision.

Secondly, his own condition. Does he have it or not?
Dr. Octopus kept referrring to tests. So how is it possible that he doesn't yet know?
Of course tests are not a YES or NO thing.
If you read the following, you will understand a lot about why he acted as he did.

According to Wikipedia:
Diagnosis is by genetic testing, a blood test which counts the numbers of CAG repeats in each of the HTT alleles. The test can be done at any point in time, regardless of whether or not symptoms are present.

A positive result is not considered a diagnosis, since it may be obtained decades before the symptoms begin. However, a negative test means that the individual does not carry the expanded copy of the gene and will not develop HD.
The test will tell a person who originally had a 50 percent chance of inheriting the disease if their risk goes up to 100 percent or is eliminated. A person who tests positive for the disease will develop HD sometime within their lifetime, provided he or she lives long enough for the disease to appear.

Cutoffs are given as follows:

- 40 or more CAG repeats: full penetrance allele (FPA). A "positive test" or "positive result" generally refers to this case.
- 36 to 39 repeats: incomplete or reduced penetrance allele (RPA). It may cause symptoms, usually later in the adult life. There is a maximum risk of 60% that a person with an RPA will be symptomatic at the age of 65 years, and a 70% risk of being symptomatic at the age of 75 years.
- 27 to 35 repeats: intermediate allele (IA), or large normal allele. It is not associated with symptomatic disease in the tested individual, but may expand upon further inheritance to give symptoms in offspring.
- 26 or fewer repeats: Not associated with HD.
The show has been very vague about the test results. I assume that Gun has tested as positive, meaning that it is likely he will develop the illness at "SOME" point before he grows old and dies of natural causes. But how early or how late can be more or less predicted, as you saw. And even the 27 to 35 repeats result, meaning he won't become sick but he can pass on to his children, would warrant his sacrifice. Yes, it's one of the extremely rare cases where I condone noble idiocy.
